Not very impressed. Waited over a year to get in to an artist as he had been in high demand and moving around with no set location. Extremely nice during my first encounters with him, he seemed great! Had an appointment booked with him in October and he texted the same day (very close to the appointment time) asking if we could reschedule because he needed more time drawing. No problem at all,I’m a patient and obviously want the drawing to be at its best. I have literally never heard from that artist again. I emailed him a few times to see the drawings or if he had anything drawn up at all and to set another date and got nothing. Even emailed to say I wanted to cancel as to not have his time wasted by starting a drawing when I wasn’t interested anymore and received nothing. A few months had passed and I thought maybe I would give it one more shot and called him a few weeks ago to see if he got any of my messages and nothing back. Very turned off by the lack of communication and to me it was really unprofessional considering how many ways I attempted to contact him (2 texts, 2 emails and 1 call from October to date) and got nothing but silence. It was deafening and really spoke to the character of the person I was dealing with. If he wasn’t interested in doing my tattoo I would have appreciated an email or call saying so instead of wondering if he didn’t get my messages at all, if he was overbooked or not interested in doing my tattoo. I was not impressed that I waited a year just to be blown off 110% across the board. I obviously wouldn’t want someone doing a tattoo on me if they didn’t want to so just saying that to me would have pushed me to find someone else which is honestly not a big deal for me since I do have other tattoos. I scheduled another appointment with someone else there but ultimately decided not to use this business as I had been in there with a friend more recently and the artist saw me and looked away and still said nothing as if he had never seen me or had a few consultations with me. For someone very highly rated in this area I would never recommend him to anyone regardless of his work due to the way he handled this situation and I wouldn’t go back to this shop because of it as well. Not looking to stop slow his business so I left his name out of it but anyone that knows me personally will get a bad recommendation for this person if they asked. Read Less

Getting a tattoo is supposed to be an experience and that is what I got. Not being from this state and an African American I've experienced racism/microaggressions in several places of business. So when I walked into Lightening Revival I was nervous, but everyone was welcoming and cool. My best friend and I met our Tattoo artist, Drew, and we were increasingly at ease. He was professional, kind, honest and had extensive experience working with all different body types and hues. He was honest about the size of tattoo, location, and color on different shades of brown skinned people. We truly appreciated him as our artist. First time I ever offered up a review other than on a restaurant.  I went to Lightning to get a cover up done. They took pictures and I was told in a week I will get an email of a design. I waited a week and got nothing.  I called and the owner, who it appears is the only person there that can design a tat , was not there.  I waited another week and this time stopped in.  Again, owner was not there but left my # and email again.  Waited another week, still no call, design, email nothing.    Called back after a month and owner still not around and told the employee to never mind and that I guess they didn't want my business.  I guess Lightning is doing so well, though each time I went there, there wasn't a customer in there, that they don't need my $.  To bad because I really wanted to support a Byron Center business. The entire staff at LRTC was wonderful! I appreciated the quick response and communication from Valerie. She was able to schedule a lengthy family session with fairly little notice. I got my first tattoo here, and it was amazing. The artists here take away a lot of the stress that comes with a first tattoo. The artists are also very talented and crack jokes to help relieve the stress. Awesome feel for the place, very well taken care of and clean. Had the feel of a "traditional tattoo parlor" but without the "dark " and "menacing" cliche. BTW I recommend David for your first, he's amazingly talented and good to work with. I've gotten 3 tattoos in the past 3 months from LRTC. My only regret is that I didn't get my first 4 tattoos from them! I know a few people that go here and I will never go anywhere else! From the moment you walk in the door to the moment you walk out, you are welcomed, taken care of and treated great! The shop is immaculate and every artist is awesome! I don't think I could be more happy with the entire experience. Matt was absolutely amazing. He listened to my design idea, gave constructive ideas and lead me to a final design that I adore. Got piercings done there yesterday and right when I walked in everyone greeted me with a warm welcome and smiling faces. Everyone is super friendly and helpful and I was very comfortable. My friend and I spontaneously decided to get tattoos tonight. I've always heard great things about this shop, and we made a great choice going there tonight. I wanted my grandma's handwriting as a tattoo, and Drew was perfect. It turned out so awesome, it made my mom cry. I'm so so happy my decision, and I will definitely be back to see Drew. This place is great! As a tattoo virgin, I don't have anything to compare it to. However, I will not be going anywhere else! Ruben Sanchez did a really good job at making sure I was comfortable and asking if I needed to take a break. He did an amazing job on the piece that I wanted. Not to mention, the shop itself is open, light and inviting. Very reasonably priced too! I went in expecting to pay much more than I was quoted for. I went to lightning revival for their Friday the 13th piercing/tattoo special day on a whim, not really sure what was going to happen or what I was going to leave with. I ended up meeting the piercing artist, Val and getting my septum and my ear pierced. I waited about five hours (due to the insane amount of people on the wait list) but it was well worth the wait. Everything felt very clean, the piercing room offered good privacy, and Val was seriously incredible. The clamps use to set the placement on my nose did not hurt at all, she was quick, precise, and super funny. I'm on day two with my new pretties with minimal swelling, no discomfort whatsoever, and dainty jewelry that suits my face. 10/10 would get pierced again � Read Less

Since my boyfriend and I found the shop, we won't go anywhere else. David has been our go-to for all of our recent tattoos and we absolutely love all of them. I didn't exactly take this place seriously at first because it sits next to a Family Fare in my small town, so I expected it to be cheap and lousy. However, I walked in one day because I wanted to get a tattoo and was curious at just how bad this place was. I was surprised to find some great quality artists who are very down to earth and approachable. There are some artists in this place that are better than some of the artists in Grand Rapids, but they have much more reasonable prices. There are books for each artist so you can browse their work and see which one is best for your design and get an idea of how other people's turned out. I'm an artist, so I'm definitely going to be picky about what art goes on my body, but I love the tattoo I got done. Meanwhile, I've gone with other friends getting their tattoos done downtown and it definitely wasn't as great of an experience. The tattoos are much more expensive and the artists seem to have a stuck up attitude. The only thing I would complain about (because this was my first tattoo) is how my tattoo is a bit less vibrant than when it was done a few months ago, but I've read online that it's normal because my skin won't have shed the new dull skin until like a year (and my other friend's tattoo is pretty much the same shade of black). Other than the fact that this shop is way out in good ole' Byron Center this place rocks. My Brother in law works here and I am a little biased that he works at an awesome tat shop. Despite these things... this place does rock. It's a clean shop and it's a shop full of amazing artists. In particular Ruben does a spectacular job of getting clients in and making there tatoo dreams come true. Whether it be a new piece or a cover up Lighting knows how to handle all customers needs. I came to Lightning Revival to fix a tattoo I had done a few years ago and I was very nervous. Past experiences I had in tattoo shops were so unwelcoming and disappointing. However, the atmosphere and staff at Lightning Revival were great! Matt and Valerie were very friendly and any nerves I had were gone. Matt worked with my tattoo so I was able to keep the parts I liked and then added amazing color and details to cover the parts I didn't. I met Matt through a friend. She has several tattoos and she appreciates good body art. Matt is working on a great piece on her leg. I had planned on getting a small tattoo at another local place, but my appointment kept getting postponed, by me and the artist. Then the horror stories about the other shop and artist came flooding in, SCARY. I already have one lopsided tattoo, I surely do not need another ugly one...So, my friend pointed me toward Matt.When I walked into the shop I was pleasantly surprised by how open it is. Even though the colors are rich grays and blues it is still bright and cheerful. Matt looked at my art, quoted me a price and was able to fit me right in... So that was cool, not playing the waiting game anymore for this piece:) what I was especially happy about was to meet someone who was excited about Shel Silverstein's art also!His wife is the co-owner of the shop. She was there, and they're just the cutest. They were so nice to me while I was getting tattooed, it was like we were old friends. (I hope in a few years we will be, as I hope to see them again!)The whole process was done with super-clean equipment, Matt explained everything, every step of the way. The shop is immaculate. Overall: I am very happy with both my tattoos and the experience. I have two go-to artists in town now. There is one other place I have found that I like. Lucky me!
