ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE SHOP, so fucking rude!! WORST 60 dollars & SHOP EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE, NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL.. Tomik was his name- so I am a paying customer.. So I paid my 60 dollar retainer the day before and gave them the idea I wanted, I come in the next day and have him draw something simple up. I don't like it tht much and so I tell him I am going with a traditional piece now, something smaller anyways. He tells me "I'm wasting his time and He is not going to re draw me something else up" I PAID HIM  60 dollars for a 15 min drawing & he tells me I am wasting his time bc I didn't like that piece!! I'd rather go with a normal traditional?!! The money I paid him to draw was wasting his time??? I even told him obviously I'm prepared to pay more than just the retainer fee, I got so mad I walked out and figured I'll just give them a bad review. IVE NEVER been talked so down to especially for my business.. I told him earlier I didn't have a price limit & and I am just looking for a quality piece- obviously he wasn't the right person, especially someone who was irritated putting permanent ink on me doesn't seem like a great idea. Anyways tomik kept my 60 dollars after telling me he won't re draw me anything more after I told him I have more money, then proceeded to tell me I wasting his time to draw me a tattoo that I want. Did a walk in on a Saturday; they said they couldn't get me in right then but helped me make an appointment for a few hours later. Came back, and it was very much in and out. The artist was super professional and nice, especially since this was my first tattoo. Don't be deterred by all the traditional tattoos hanging in the lobby - they are very capable of doing more minimalist/modern/whatever type tattoos and didn't seem judgmental at all either! I had my first tattoo done here last year and had a wonderful experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they made me feel incredibly welcomed. This last set of tattoos discouraged me a bit though. I was getting two tattoos done by Nick Melody (who did my first tattoo, phenomenal work). That day he showed up a little late, spoke to another customer and did not speak to me until fifteen minutes after my appointment time. I made my appointment last minute and did not have the chance to send him my artwork ideas until that morning so I wasn’t too bothered by it. What did bother me was the fact that I had two words of text and three small asterisk like stars for each tattoo and it took nearly 45 minutes for everything to be laid out. In this time, another artist took a walk in customer with a similar tattoo idea to mine and had everything laid out and tattooed onto the girl. I was nervous and upset at this point, so I wanted the tattoos to get done. I didn’t pay attention to the fact that the tattoo on my wrist was not centered correctly, and that the stars on my chest piece were on the wrong side. I know I have myself to blame for not saying anything/ realizing, but it’s just disappointing when it’s done wrong when you thought the artist was listening to what you wanted. I would go back, because the other artists are awesome and I’ve seen their work and the way they are with their customers. A tattoo is forever. Less so now than it used to be, but still a significant investment. The staff at Name Brand were friendly and welcoming, the shop was clean and professional. Tomek was the artist I worked with, and I can't say enough good things about him. He walked me through my 'first tattoo' nervousness, discussed what I wanted, and triple checked that what he saw was what I saw in the project. He answered all my questions, made sure I knew what I needed to do for aftercare, and kept me talking during the procedure to keep me distracted. You get what you pay for. Name Brand may seem a little pricey, but a tattoo is forever, and it pays to go for quality. Name Brand delivers. Nick Z did an outstanding job.I checked out a number of places for my first and only tattoo, both through word of mouth and in person. A good friend suggested Name Brand, so I dropped by to check them out. From start to finish, my experience was positive. The receptionist (not really a receptionist, but she handled the walk-ins who had questions) was polite and relaxed and made me feel comfortable browsing and checking out the artists' books. I told her what I was looking for, and she recommended Nick Z for the job, probably not coincidentally the same artist that I had already chosen based on samples of work.I set up an appointment ($60 deposit) and when I returned, I was very happy to see the competence and confidence that Nick displayed. He was obviously extremely experienced with the instruments of his trade, and set them up quickly and professionally. Attention to detail and hygiene were obvious. We confirmed everything about what I wanted based on an emailed jpg I had sent the store earlier. I doublechecked a couple of details (because you don't want to make a mistake at this point), and Nick confirmed that we were in agreement about what I wanted.Nick soon got into the zone and worked quickly and efficiently. One of his workmates was more inclined to talk with his own client, but Nick was not distracted (which I appreciated), staying fully focused on the job at hand.After the inking was done, Nick bandaged the tattooed area and gave me both written and verbal information on how to care for the tattoo for the next few days. I followed his directions to the letter and it healed perfectly. I was impressed by both the craftsmanship of the tattoo itself and his emphasis on new tattoo care. Nick calculated a reasonable fee based on the time. I tipped about 25% because of the excellence shown throughout the entire process.I have no plans for any more tattoos, but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to go to Name Brand again. Highly recommended. Went in to get my first ever tattoo, and was greeted with people who knew what they were talking about - I was contemplating a finger tattoo, but I was warned about fading, distortion, and pain. I came back after a week of thought and decided I wanted to get it on my chest instead. I just walked in, no appointment necessary, and immediately got help from Nick. I told him what I generally wanted, and he drew it out and tatted me up within half an hour! I love my tattoo, and Name Brand was very clean, with friendly artists. I got my tattoo on February 6th, about two and a half months ago, and it has healed incredibly well with no problems! The only complaint I have is the minimum price, $80, for such a small tattoo. I was in with a friend on 2.10.17 and we both saw Tomek Szumiec and the entire experience was absolutely fabulous. The interior is immaculately clean, has a very cool vibe, one of the most inviting shops I've been in. The girl working the front desk was so nice and very helpful. Tomek is amazing and was clear about what he thought and was willing to do while still working within what I wanted. The stations are bright and open, the music is cool, the other artists and staff were great. I love both of my small pieces so much, they so surpassed my imagination and I could have cried. I got my first tattoo at Name Brand Tattoo this past weekend from Jeff.  It was a great experience.  I emailed Jeff through the website and told him some of my ideas before meeting him in person at the studio.  I fleshed out my idea for a tattoo, and he was very friendly and willing to answer the questions I had.  I wasn't sure about whether I wanted a tattoo, and waited more than 7 months before finally making an appointment to have it done.After reminding him what I wanted and giving him some more details, he prepared a sketch and asked me for feedback and seemed very willing to make changes.  The atmosphere in the shop is pretty relaxed and friendly, and I never felt under pressure or nervous in my decision-making.  I think the atmosphere and decor of the studio and Jeff's laid back style really helped me relax despite my never having been tattooed before.My tattoo was completed in a little over an hour (plus about 35 minutes of sketch time), and I really like it a lot.  I highly recommend Name Brand Tattoo, and Jeff, the owner of the studio, but based on the artist portfolios on their website, I believe you can get a great tattoo from any of the artists in the studio. This is a cool little place, I called just before 6pm to see if they could do a walk in and I turned up around 6.25pm and they were more than happy to help me out, I'm doing some traveling and wanted to get an outline of every country I visit, naturally being from the U.K i had to start with my own country and they were more than happy to oblige, the shop is clean and the staff are cool and easy to talk to! My husband and I got our first tattoos here almost 2 weeks ago now. I wrote great review on Yelp and figured I'd follow up with Facebook after everything healed up. The studio is pretty clean so not super private. We felt very comfortable and at home there which was great because we spent about 5 hours there. Nick Melody did both of our tattoos and did a phenomenal job. We followed everything he recommended and we did not get any infections or anything like that. My tattoo st...ill has good vibrant color. My husband thinks he may need to touch up some of the lighter colors after everything is fully healed. We were not completely sure what tattoos traditionally cost most places comma however the price we paid was worth it to us to go to a reputable artist studio known for its professionalism and cleanliness. Got my first tattoo here and so did my husband. Kerri was great about answering questions over email and looking at designs and helping answer questions and quotes.Nick M (there's two Nicks) did both of our tattoos. He was nice, laid back, and patient. He says as of now, he's been tattooing for 3 years and has done some schooling in graphics design. He says he was trained by the owner of the store. He was great about letting up on the needle at all the right times when the skin needed a break. I didn't find the experience especially painful. Took about 2 hours for mine. However, there is also a consulting and sketch process. My husband and i together spent s total of 5 hours there. Most importantly, he wanted to make sure we were happy. Sometimes it can be hard for artists to change their aesthetic to please another person, but he was very helpful in suggestions and I think our tastes matched up pretty well.The studio is pretty clean. There are mobile dividers for people getting tattooed in more private areas, but it's not a bunch of different rooms. It was pretty comfortable and we felt at home here. No one was rude as others have mentioned some tattoo places in Ann Arbor are, and they were very chill.Do not be worried by the framed tattoos in the lobby. They are older traditional tattoos to help people think of ideas. They are quite capable of doing more modern works.We were very happy with our experience and Nick's work. Read Less

When I walked into Name Brand Tattoo, I was expecting to see tables laid out with people getting tattoos done right there in front of the window, loud music, and a bunch of needles.  Instead, I was greeted by an air conditioned, beautiful lobby with framed art all around that makes you want 20 more tattoos instead of just the one that you came there for.  I only waited about 5 minutes before Tomek came out to talk to me about what I was planning on getting.  I had a printed version of the very specific design that I wanted, and since it was an all-black outline about the size of a fist, there wasn't much to talk about.  He told me he would have an opening in an hour and could help me.  One of the great things about Tomek is that he is very straightforward with you and wants to help you get exactly the tattoo that you want.When I came back an hour later, Tomek was ready for me within 5 minutes and took me into the back where there were very clean facilities and a comfortable atmosphere.  Tomek is a little quieter, if you're looking for someone to coddle you through the process, he's not going to do it.  Honestly, I love this about him.  He's so chill and calm that if you're nervous it calms you down too and he's a really awesome and badass guy in general.  I would recommend him because he's very professional with his art and a fantastic artist. He gets your tattoo done quickly and does it exactly how you want it, making sure it's perfect before he even starts with the needle.My tattoo ended up costing about $100 which is a little more expensive, but completely worth it to get it done at a place that was this clean, comfortable, and that recreated my design perfectly.  I have had no problems with the healing, they make the upkeep of your tattoo very clear and easy to follow.Bottom-line, this is the place you want to go, and it's the place that I will be coming back to as soon as I can decide what to get next. I loved the first tattoo I got by Daaron a while back, but a couple years ago I got a moth on my foot by Tomek. He added extra details (sparkles, which are a personal tattoo pet peeve of mine) to the tattoo without telling me, and they were NOT on the original sketch. I am a bit of a geek for Thoreau, and have wanted a tattoo that reflects my fandom for years. My sister designed a tattoo to get the ball rolling, and promptly introduced me to her favorite artist, Tomek Szumiec. Tomek recreated her design brilliantly, and was able to preserve her handwriting, which was something that was very meaningful to me in the design of the tattoo. For my first tattoo, I wanted something simple and muted. I wanted the tattoo to be void of color and simple as can be. Both my sister and Tomek gently suggested color, so I went with it, and WOW--I am so happy that I did. The design was black and white, so Tomek chose the colors and then blew my mind in the execution. I've had the tattoo for a week, and have already been stopped by a few randos wanting to get a closer look at the blue and orange that caught their eyes.Needless to say: 1) Tomek is BOSS. 2) Name Brand was clean, professional, and easy on the eyes. 3) I have no desire to go anywhere other than Name Brand for my next tat so that Tomek can do the honors. This is - hands down - the cleanest, friendliest, most professional tattoo shop I have have set foot in. After searching relentlessly for a reputable artist to rework/cover-up a large tattoo on my leg and being turned away by several who claimed they had no interest in working on existing art (in other words, no interest in helping me), I was referred to Jeff Zuck. I am so thankful I didn't get discouraged, made the drive from Ferndale to Ann Arbor and talked to one, final artist. Not only did Jeff agree to help with the cover-up, he gave me exactly what I wanted from the tattoo in the first place. It was far better than I ever expected. I can't say enough about how positive my experience with Jeff Zuck, the owner of Name Brand, was. Being my first tattoo, I was somewhat hesitant to make the very permanent decision of an artist/shop, but something about Jeff's online portfolio spoke to me, and luckily I was able to secure an appointment a week in advance. The shop itself is clean and the decorations stylish, with instrumental post-rock playing. Jeff was extremely personable, and conversational enough to put you at ease while still being tactful. He was also patient enough to re-place a stencil a few times and talk through decisions about placement; I never felt rushed or like he saw me only as just another customer. The work itself was wonderfully done -- the lines are clean, the healing has been minimal, and I feel grateful that he was able to bring my idea to life. Throughout the tattoo, we spoke about the importance of the tradition taking place, and you could tell by his philosophy that he truly believes in his art.The price was not as expensive as other reviewers have made it seem ($150 for a little over an hour of consultation, prep, and work), but then again, I don't think you can really put a price (or should be looking for a bargain) on a quality tattoo. Super clean shop, super friendly people that work there. It was nice to walk into a shop with a very clean, minimal esthetic, and with out blaring heavy metal music. Another thing which was nice was that I was able to call and get a same day appointment.Cole did my tattoo, and not only was he really mellow and calming, but I love how my tattoo turned out. He was professional and patient with me during the placement process as well. The only reason I didn't give this shop five stars is because 1) I wish there was more privacy. The shop has an area where three or four guys share an open floor plan type of area, not super private if you're getting a rib/under breastbone tat and have to take off your shirt. To be fair, I didn't ask if there was another private area or some sort of divider to put up. 2) Prices are steep. I am happy to pay for good art and a good experience, but dang, it was a steep hole in my pocket compared to any other shop I'd been to.
