I've waited a while to make this review and it makes me sad that I feel it's so necessary to write after so many friends have an bad experiences that mirrored mine exactly. I came in a year ago for a really technical tattoo, this was the only shop that would agree to doing to tattoo in the area. The artist was incredibly kind and patient, the only one in there to treat me that way. While showing the piercers/employees the positioning (to double check that it was even), I was eyed down by two other male employees in the most UNCOMFORTABLE fashion. Flash forward a bit, I go in for a touch up, same artist, same nice experience. Again though, the counter staff seemed incredibly annoyed with my presence in the shop...Third try, I go in for a piercing sale. I wanted a another piercing only to be told the artist would only do it in a certain position because he thought it "looked best," cool, but I'm the one paying and it's my body. I'll deal with it being "not good" on my own time. Multiple friends of mine have been convinced to have an alternative piercing position by the SAME artist. Super disappointing to hear :/Alright, so I'll go back only one more time to only to get my jewelry changed. I had to buy some jewelry elsewhere because I couldn't afford the jewelry there. I just needed it changed because the initial piercing post is too long (expected). When I got there I was grilled by the counter person and the same piercer that I had "cheap" jewelry and that they didn't want to change it. I had only wanted help, but unfortunately I left in tears because I couldn't afford the jewelry and they wouldn't take it out for me without giving me a hard time. They made me feel like I didn't deserve their services or their time. I tried this place multiple times and to no avail, they have not been able to keep kind people on staff, the kind tattooer I had no longer works even. Daith pierced with a one of a kind 18K yellow gold heart. The ladies at the front were very pleasant, patient and helpful. Haven has a very nice selection of unique jewelry (of various metals). There's a nice seating area with a comfy sofa and chairs. I really appreciated that the jewelry  and the piercing needle are both taken out of the sterilizer in front of the customer. Brook was my piercing technician and she washed her hands and changed her gloves several times during the preparation of the process, she's extremely clean and knowledgeable. Since I have several other piercings, she asked if I wanted her to go over care instructions with me and I said yes (one can never hear things enough). Sadly disappointed. I've been here for a few piercings. I enjoyed my time at the shop as I previously had. I felt comfortable, the shop was clean, the staff was very friendly and helped put me at ease throughout my visit.When I got home I curiously decided to check their site, where I was lead to discover a 25% discount on all piercings they were apparently offering.Piercings can get expensive, and as a customer, that is not always a bad thing. This is something going in your body, administered by a stranger. You want the best material / most knowledgeable and experienced staff you can get. However, knowing they were aware of the chunk of money I could've saved and chose to let me spend all that extra money didn't sit right with me.On top of that chunk I could've saved, I purchased the saline solution through them, to bring it home and find it unable to even be used based on what the bottle warns - "tab is broken and canister should not be used" .... I live about 40 minutes from here to return the can which shouldn't have been faulty in the first place to a healthy business that didn't bother bringing their discount to my attention-- a returning costumer more than willing to spend money/support a business which seemingly had their costumers best interests at heartWill be looking for a new shop for any future piercings/tattoos Read Less

i went to this place to get a cover up tattoo and it takes it 7 sections when the guy that was doing it told me the he can do it in 2 sections i spend 1,500.00 on it and is not done yet and it was something that was simple in 2 or 3 sections.the guy wants me to keep going. he is a reap of i went to get a touch up because the inck the next  day when i took a shower came out and when i came back for the touch up he did it in Les than 10 minutes missing some spots.he tink i was stupid .after i post the tipe of work he done he text me train to intimidated me and threatening me because i post the lousy job he did. i paid it wasn't for free and 1,500.00 is a lot for that job JUSTIN you don't intimidated me body " jump the  bridge" Read Less

Staff is awesome here! Super helpful and will answer every and any question you have. Came in for two piercings, and besides the wait time (I went in on a very busy sale day) it was a super quick and easy process. Piercing only takes about 5 minutes and you're done. I will note that the jewelry here can be quite expensive. 2 ear piercings on sale, plus my jewelry came out to around $220. Some basic looking studs can run you $75, but they are amazing quality and shine beautifully if you're looking for that. Jay did an amazing job with my piercings, he was very calming, and was super in depth with aftercare instructions. I came here for a piercing because they were doing a surprise Easter egg thing where I could either get my piercing for free, half off, 30% off, or 20% off. I still had to pay for the jewelry though, so don't be fooled. The prices are up there but it's clean and professional so the price is pretty justified. I went to Haven on a Saturday night for a new piece of jewelry for my inner conch piercing. I was helped by a young man who when he looked at my piercing he exclaimed “wow that is in rough shape.” I got my piercing done 5 years ago, I have a keloid, I got my piercing done by a very reputable piercer. I was very put back by this statement. He started showing me jewelry then told me how they charge, $20 per stone on a piece of jewelry, really?! I could get a new piercing for the cost of the jewelry alone and it wasn’t even sterling silver or gold. He lost interest in showing me then walked away from me without even saying excuse me or I’ll be right back, to help two girls down the counter. So much for customer service, maybe I was going to buy a gold piece, but they didn’t show me any, I’ll be going elsewhere, no thanks. Read Less

I decided to come to Haven to get my nostril peirced after having it peirced, and then get infected two separate times before at another parlor. Let me tell you, it was the best choice I could have made. I was understandably frustrated and Penelope made sure to explain to me what had gone so wrong for me before, and how I could take better care of my newest bling. She had an amazing sense of humor and made me feel really relaxed and at home during the whole process. I am now happy to report that finally, my nostril peircing healed up with out any troubles. This place just might not be for me. I went in to get my inner conch pierced and the person at the front desk told me they wouldnt be able to use the jewelry i had brought in, from a very reputable place in berkeley where i had my upper ear pierced, because the outer threads might shred the piercing hole upon insertion. So, after choosing a ring there was a bit of a wait and then Jay called me in. At first I thought he was really considerate, not wanting to butcher the pronounciation of my name, but I thought it was weird that I had to lie down for the procedure. After a while Jay's way of talking to me while lying down got rather agitating. The piercing itself was so painful I cried a lot more than I have with my other piercings. It just kept on going while he tried to get the ring in place. Felt like he was literally tearing me a new one, which I found horrifyingly ironic considering I had been coerced into buying a whole new ring. I almost asked him to take it out and nevermind, but eventually it was over and though I felt humiliated, I paid and left saying nothing, my ear throbbing like hell. It was about 3 years ago so things might have changed now, but I got my first piercing here (belly button) and it was terrible. I don't know his name but the guy who pierced me did it crooked and pierced through way too much skin. It hurt really bad and never healed correctly. I had to take it out because it looked so bad and hurt all the time. Now I have a hideous scar on my belly button. The scar is so big I would never be able to get pierced there again.My friend who got her belly button pierced here as well was also pierced crooked but they didn't do enough skin! It flops all over the place. At least her's healed. :/Also it costed sooooo much. Cheapest, plain jewelry they had was something like $40 and the piercing itself was something crazy like $60. It's been 3 years, so I don't really remember, but I regret paying anything for that piercing. I've seen Penelope for almost my piercings: tongue, belly button, chest dermals, industrial, nose, tragus. (The ear piercings I had from HS were all mall-done .) She insists on hygiene and a sterile piercing environment. She'll talk you through the whole process and make it feel like it took no time. I have been to Haven for three tattoo sessions for a total of twelve hours for a half sleeve.. I will never go anywhere else for a tattoo or piercing! Everyone at Haven is extremely friendly and personable! I had two 5-hour sessions and one 2-hour session; each time it felt like I was catching up with old friends. Cau Janoni is the tattoo artist who did my half sleeve on my arm. Her work is GORGEOUS! Absolute perfection. Everywhere I go I get compliments and people always ask where I got the tattoo. I started following Cau on Instagram where I was able to see all of the previous work she has done and I think she is hands down the best tattoo artist in the area. Her apprentice, Erin, sat in for all 12 hours of my sleeve. She was super nice and social as well. Erin is now tattooing at Haven and from what I have seen she also does amazing work! In the time I spent at Haven I also got to meet Penelope who is the owner and head piercer there- she was extremely welcoming and has a great sense of humor. The counter staff was always friendly and accommodating as well. I recommend following Haven Body Arts on Instagram, as they're always posting discounts and promotions throughout the week! I even helped them come up with the name "Titty Tuesdays" which became a popular promotion last year for buy one get one free nipple piercings LOL. My 3 year old has been asking to get her ears pierced since her birthday in September. We decided that as a Christmas gift I’d take her to get her ears pierced. I was planning to take her to the mall but as I was looking into it I began to feel unsettled and decided I’d be more comfortable going to a tattoo/piercing parlor. I had trouble finding anyone in this area that would pierce her since she was so young. We were turned away yesterday at another shop in NoHo after I was told they could do it so we made the trip. This is the ONLY place I will ever get pierced. Penelope has been piercing me since I was in college and now any time I need anything done I will drive the three hours and make it an excuse to visit noho. My skin is very sensitive and has rejected every piercing until I went to Haven. They have the best quality jewelry and the only jewelry I will put in my body. P is super knowledgeable and sweet. We brought our 6yo daughter here to get her ears pierced, and our experience couldn't have been better. I read about using needles for ear piercing, and seemed safer, which brought us to Penelope. Penelope could not have been more professional or sweeter with our daughter. She was respectful, had lots of good information for us, and it was so painless that kiddo didn't even cry! The piercings were perfect, and after following Penelope's home care advice, kiddo has perfect pierced ears that never got infected. I can't recommend this place enough! Maybe it would have been better if we could've made reservations, and bringing the 3yo was maybe not the best idea, but they let us jump the line so I cannot complain at all. Parents, don't get your kids ears pierced at the mall using the gun; its damaging to tender tissues and cannot be cleaned properly. Staff was friendly but they didn't have much of a selection for nostril studs. I have an allergy to gold (weird I know) and they tried selling me a gold stud. I told them no I couldn't have gold, so we went with a thread-less titanium stud. I forget the name of the man who pierced me, he did a great job. For the price I would have thought there would be more of a selection. After a few weeks I developed a bump around the piercing. I thought it was strange but just continued to clean it daily with sea salt soaks. After about three months it didn't go away, so I thought maybe it was the jewelry. I decided to replace the stud even though it was still too early. The hole just seemed thoroughly irritated by the jewelry and I didn't want to wait. I couldn't get the thread-less stud out of my nose! I tried multiple times to remove it but I ended up using wire cutters to get it out. Now that it is out I have a platinum stud in and overnight the bump went away. It had to have been the material of the stud they gave me. I am happy now, but they should really be careful with things like that. They never asked me if I had any sensitivities or allergies. I didn't think of it either. I figured I would be okay with Titanium, but maybe it was a mixture of metals. Read Less

I had a problem from a previous piercing where they weren't symmetrical on each ear, but he did the new ones so that each ear looked great! I have had all of my piercings done at Haven and I have never had a bad experience. My most recent piercing I had done was my Rook, which I had wanted for over 6 years but due to my anxiety about how much pain this piercing causes, I kept putting it off. When I walked in to discuss having the piercing done I was greeted by Jay, who immediately put me at ease by walking me through what I could expect during and after. He reassured me that since I had my forward helix done without much pain there was no reason to believe this one would be any different. He was awesome. Phenomenal piercing place! Definitely worth my ride all the way from Worcester to Northampton. I was so into a jewelry piece from Buddha Jewelry Organics that I made a purchase online first so I could have it ready for the daith piercing. Problem came up when the local piercing shop and Lucky's piercing place both denied to perform a daith piercing on my ear because the ring was bought outside the studio. Unlike these two shops, Haven Body Arts quickly solved my issue as soon as they finished determining if the ring was appropriate for an initial piercing or not. Haven is clean and professional with beautiful jewelery, and the people are very nice. I've gotten 4 piercings there, but I have complaints about 2 of them. Penelope is a cool person but she pierced my tongue way crooked. Since then I've gone back to the piercer I trust, George, (in Michigan where I'm from) and he repierced it perfectly for me. Jay pierced my bellybutton, and the piercing itself is perfectly straight and placed just fine, but the bar on the jewelry he used was too short. I didn't know until later on when it started kind of sinking in my skin at the top (not because of swelling). George also fixed that for me and gave me an M&M shaped disc (as he called it) on the bottom for easier healing because of the shape of my navel, which no one at Haven even mentioned as an option. My nose and tragus piercings came out fine, done by Penelope and Jay, respectively. So IDK. Seems like a gamble to me based on my experience. Read Less

I went to Haven Saturday, May 6th for their $10 piercing sale for pride. I wish I could've said my experience was as great as everyone else seems to be experiencing, but it was not. I got my helix pierced, and Jay was amazing. He was patient and informative and all around pleasant to be around, making me feel very comfortable. The woman at the front desk is what ruined it for me. It was about 8:30pm, and the shop closed at 10pm that evening. My friends and I walked in and she looked up and looked annoyed, asking what we needed. I said I was there for the sale, and she made a face of disgust and continued to act rude the entire time I dealt with her. She seemed highly annoyed that she had to actually do work at her job. One of my friends was also planning to get a piercing, but was so disgusted at the way she acted that she decided not to. JAY JAY JAY! Jay is awesome. He pierced me about  3 or so years ago (reverse vertical labret). and he still remembers me every time I go in to switch my jewelry, ask questions, anything! He is so pleasant and makes you feel at ease and welcomed every time. Today I went in as soon as Haven opened and he was as sweet as always. He is knowledgeable and informative. He changed my jewelry today and even checked out one of my nipples and switched the bar for me and gave me steps moving forward since I got that done out of town. I went Into start my first tattoo is in memory of my father. I want to thank Roman for doing an amazing job and working with me on the design from my concept drawing. He was great with helping me through my nervousness and anxiety. He is also honest and being a "first timer", it meant a lot. I had my design and he told me why some of it wasn't a great idea. Had a great experience! Was very nervous getting my septum pierced but Kelsea at the front desk was very friendly and helpful and Jay, who pierced me, was very professional and patient. I am a huge fan- I literally have been writing a review every where just to get the word out. I am a strong believer that each experience whether you are new to the piercing world or not, is a big deal. Penelope is knowledgeable about what she is doing, and she's a great communicator. While the artists are perfectly amiable, Kent the Receptionist has a lot to learn with regard to customer service. Having worked in tattoo shops, I know how annoying customers can be, but Kent seems to struggle with even the most innocent of inquiries. If answering questions and being patient while a customer decides on a piece of jewelry is a problem, perhaps she should find a different field of employment. My friend and I came in to get to each get a simple cartilage piercing. We waited for three hours!!!! It seemed as if there were only four people in front of us. The piercer seemed quite nice, but the woman at the front desk was extremely rude and unhelpful. My ear piercing looked beautiful - at first. Until it got infected! Great shop with friendly people at the front desk. I got a really simple tattoo: just some text. I had walked in and asked to see if anyone was free for a consultation and one of their artists, Roman, was free at that time. He fit me in before the other appointments he had that night, and freely and knowledgeably talked with me about my tattoo: the placement, consequences of the size, different aspects of the healing, etc. Throughout the process he was friendly and patient. My tattoo was a normal price for the amount of time spent and for the complexity of the tattoo, similar to other shops and other tattoos I've had. Ultimately I had a great experience. Recommended. I went to Haven to get my very first tattoo. The staff was friendly, but my artist was not. After talking to him, I set an appointment anyway. The experience of getting the tattoo was okay - but the tattoo itself is bad. There's scarring, the color didn't hold, and the lines are shaky. Definitely better artists elsewhere. Read Less

I went in to get my anti-eyebrow pierced and Jay took care of me. He was so gentle and walked me thru what was going to happen before it was going to happen. I have never had such an amazing experience! I wish I could get it done 10000 times over. Seriously no pain!!! I went to Haven Body arts 3 days ago to get a new tattoo by Cau. I had saved up money for a fairly large piece and I'm so excited I did because I absolutely love my new tattoo. I've been to other shops before but nothing compares to Haven Body Arts.  The shop itself is easy to find and super clean. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly (as I had to reschedule a few times to match my crazy schedule). Cau was great too! She took random pictures I had sent her and combined them into a beautiful piece of art on my skin. I would definitely go back in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone who wants a new piece! Every time I come into Haven I love it more and more. I am always greeted with friendly people always willing to help with anything I need. I had my helix pierced and the man who pierced it was incredibly nice and was concerned about my health and made sure I felt okay before I left. At my last trip to Haven I got a tattoo from Cole. This was my first tattoo and Cole did a great job, he was very nice and definitely helped me with being nervous. It came out great and I love it! The people working at Haven are always incredibly honest and it's refreshing, they are committed to the work their doing and are willing to tell you what's the best choice.  Can't wait to go back! Before I write this review, I just want to say that I was pierced many times by Penelope when she was at Luckys, and it was a great experience. I wanted to follow her to her next studio (Haven Body Arts), because I thought she was so great. Now, I might have had an atypical experience, but I will not be re-visiting Haven Body Arts.I went to Haven Body Arts in the fall to get my horizontal eyebrow piercing -a piercing I've had twice before, both times by Penelope at her other studio. They let me pick out the gems I wanted and the piercing was practically painless. Back in NYC, 2 days later, it became clear the studs were way too small. They were sinking into the skin around the piercing and one popped off, I had to remove the piercing myself, which sucked.So I e-mail the studio to tell them what happened. Penelope writes me back very professionally, saying she was worried the studs might have been too small when she did the piercing and that I can come back in and they'll pierce it for free, although I will have to pay for new jewelry. That's fine with me. I take another trip to NoHo and someone else is there doing the piercing. I pick out new jewelry as recommended by them and pay another $70. After a long wait for the other piercer to take a smoke break, I'm called into the piercing room. The new piercer smells strongly of smoke and weed and doesn't explain the procedure (which was okay, I guess I didn't ask questions either because I'd had it before). He then does the piercing and takes a very long time to get the needle through my eyebrow. There's tons of blood, its very painful and he struggled with getting the second gem on for multiple minutes, including dropping it. After that, he sort of pushes the hand mirror at me, at which point I can see the piercing is crooked and the gems are huge. It looked terrible. He rushes us out, where I get a better look at it in a nearby mirror. My friend confirms that there are huge problems with this piercing as well. First let me say that I have always had the greatest respect for Penelope. One of the absolute best around. But, I have never felt more uncomfortable or been treated worse by an ignorant, uneducated, uncaring staff than the one she currently employs here. The Hispanic gentleman behind the counter had little knowledge of jewelry solutions, but instead kept texting Penelope who was supposed to be back "soon", which never ended up happening. At one point I was passed off to an ignorant and uncaring Gene. When I told him what I wanted he finally said, "I don't know, you have to talk to Penelope...by the way, she's not coming back (as I was previously told) until tomorrow. Leave your name and number and I promise she'll call you tonight". No call, nothing.... By the way, their collection of Jewelry is the smallest and lamest of all piercing shops in Noho.So I took a walk down the street and stepped into Lucky's, where Penelope started. Wow, what a total difference. Ton's of great, relevant jewelry, knowledgeable staff with a can do attitude. Asked to talk to the piercer and Zach was right there. He quickly gave me options for what I wanted to do and made suggestions. I felt totally at ease. And I didn't have to order jewelry like a Haven. I was in and out in no time and the line of patrons was significant and tended to by the staff pleasantly and quickly.I'm sorry Penelope, but your staff doesn't measure up to where you started. Might be time to take a second look if you hope to keep up with the business of your competitors.Thank you Lucky's and Zach for helping get what I wanted, when I wanted, in a pleasant, comfortable clean environment. My group of friends decided we would be impulsive, and all get tattoos together. After looking on Yelp, we found Haven Body Arts. I wish we hadn't. That isn't to say that Penelope and the woman behind the counter weren't incredibly helpful, because they were. I'm here to tell you, that unless you want to be sexual harassed, insulted, and spend your entire night getting hit on by a gross tattoo artist named Anthony, I would avoid this place. My girlfriend left in tears, as she spent 3 hours getting a simple tattoo, while 90% of the time, she had to fake laugh at this guys jokes, stories of him dating porn stars, invitations to seedy clubs, and the disturbing reality that he would pretend to accidentally tattoo the wrong part of her body, by touching her with the other side of the tattoo gun.We all have tattoos from different places, and this was by far the worst experience of our tattooed lives. If he picks a girl in your group, and tells you all that none of you are allowed to come back to accompany her, and help her feel comfortable while she has a stranger stick her with a needle, leave immediately!
