Qwah (my spelling) is a gentleman and an artist. This was my first serious tattoo, and as an out-of-towner, I could not be happier. It's such a big decision- especially if you don't have much experience with tattoo. His lines are crisp and clean. His hands are steady- like a surgeon. My wife went here about a 6 months ago and the artist did a great job covering up an old piece on her leg. I wanted to get some new work on my sleeve but have not received one call back! A friend of mine said the owner does great work but this guy, Qwui, is really unreliable at returning calls and following up, so after the 3rd unreturned call I found another local guy, props to the dude in the shop for the cover piece..... but don't expect a call back from the owner/manager.....really just not the way to run a business Read Less

Skin Art Studio is by far the best tattoo shop near Boston! I was visiting from California and walked in the shop on a Monday with an idea for my tattoo and was able to get the tattoo on Thursday. Jason took care of me and worked with me to get the exact tattoo i wanted, as well as keeping it within my budget. The tattoo came out way better than i could even imagine (black and grey skull with a Boston B). I am so pleased with my tattoo and will definitely be visiting the shop again next time I'm in Boston. I've had a total of 4 sessions with Jason for my back tattoo and it had came out better than I had expected ! Booking an appointment has always been a breeze whether it's by phone call, email or Facebook messaging with him. He's a super laid back & chill kinda guy. Every session we had would be 5-7 hours long but it goes by quick. His attention to details are top notched! Even when my Phoenix hasn't been shaded in yet, it still looked dope because the lining was on point !  Jason had always told me that he is willing to stay longer after closing to get as much work done as possible and was never rushing for my tattoo . I enjoyed all of our sessions because he had made me super comfortable and we always had great conversation without slowing down the work. I also liked the fact that Jason always included his opinion as to what I like and what would look best for my tattoo . I've gone to other places where I asked the artist for an opinion and all they could say is "if you like it, do it" but they never turned out as nice as I've liked it which I will be returning to Jason to have him fixed it up. His weekends availabilities are always booked though, but I've always been lucky to get fit right in due to cancellations. This place is super clean and they use hospital graded everything and their stuff is cleaned by an autoclaved machine ! Jason is the guy to go to ! I am a huge horror fan, I know, does not get weirder than that, but it does! My favorite horror movie of all times is The Lost Boys! The movie is amazing and the soundtrack I listen to on a daily basis.I have always wanted a Lost Boys Tattoo and Jason at the Skin Art Studio made this happen. Shop Manager Mike Christie gave me a sick tattoo this week. Not only is he talented but also very friendly, accommodating and had a clean environment. This is the ONLY place my gf and i go for tattoos. And it HAS to be Mike that does them. Everyone is a great artist there but we have bonded with Mike and he's awesome. He does AMAZING WORK! My Gf has had ALL of her tattoos done there and she has at least 14. I have had some work done there as well. AND..i had a tattoo that was done years ago by someone else that was totally F'd up, Mike tried his best to fix it without having to cover it up. He did a great job...as USUAL! i can't EVER say enough about Skin Art Studio, Mike and everyone else there. Especially Jason. He is hilarious. Jason does great work as well. I will NEVER EVER go anywhere else. I only wished they did piercings so I REALLY didn't have to go anywhere else. And unfortunately, i STUGGLE with trying to find even a good place that pierces. I live in New York, but I live in Boston in my mind. I was visiting for two days and had money on me and thought I'd get my second tattoo at an actual, reputable place. Did my Google searches and whatnot and honestly there are tattoo places in Cambridge that have better Yelp reviews than Skin Art, but I called them and didn't feel the same comforting vibe that I got from Skin Art. I'm SO happy I about my decision. I got this gorgeous tattoo done by who I'm assuming is Jason (didn't get his name :/ I'm such an idiot) and months later, people STILL compliment me on it. My sister and I walked in here to get our first ever tattoos - and were convinced on getting more ink after our amazing experience! I think Khoa was the guy who did ours, and he was so unbelievably cool and patient with us! He gave great advice and based on that we both decided against what we initially had in mind (which was too ambitious for a first tattoo). Friends and i went on a road trip from LA to NY and made a stop in Boston for 24 hours (or less) and had to get a tattoo. Found this shop close to Fenway and walked in. Guys were super nice, seemed nervous! but we had easy designs ready to go. Had an easy and fun time! Honestly I felt the experience was not great I am slowly getting a mural on my back and love to try different creative places so mostly i am looking for artist to give there spin on my universe theme but the artistic skilled lacked it was more technical he drew my idea on a post-it and it looked sloppy the Leo constellation the  came out ok ish for $120  which would have been appropriate if it had more detail and I tipped well only because I came in late and i am pretty difficult to deal with  I feel it was more the tattoo artist who was lazy and grumpy not very cool like how i feel an artist should be I do not think i will be coming back and if i do it will not be to that artist. For my first tattoo, I wanted my small design that I would be able to see on a regular basis but not explain to every passerby. An acquaintance recommended this shop so I did my research. After a ton of comparisons between the local competitors, I chose Skin Art after I walked in and Jason answered all my questions and gave his expert opinions with a no-nonsense attitude that I trusted. During the process, Jason carefully retouched the color until he and I were satisfied that it would be bright enough to see but not so bright to call extra attention. As a testament of Jason's attention to detail, he commented that he had never spent so long on such a small tattoo. This is the place where I got my first tattoo and the people there made me feel very comfortable and at ease.I got my tattoo August of last year of a design/saying all around my wrist. I forget the name of the gal who works there but she did an amazing job by asking if I was OK, felt OK, even though the tat only took 15-20 minutes. She was careful and meticulous and a sweetheart! The place is a bit small but is very clean and nice.I believe the minimum is $60 which, to me, is great and worth it. The total price of my tattoo came out to $100 (not incl. tip). Seriously recommend this place!I had two tattoos done at different studios in NY, but for my third-and most recent- tattoo, I wanted to find a place nearby. After doing some extensive research (yelped and asked around) and even stopping in at a studio in Allston, (after which I was never called back by the artist...)  my friend brought me to Skin Art. Mike was great! He really built on my ideas and worked with me to come up with an amazing design-  3D-ish heart locket with a key and initials incorporated, in black and white with heavy shading. Awesome experience at the Skin Art Studio! Khoa is the man! I went in looking to get a small Celtic tree of life on my ankle. I knew it was too intricate to be that small and that I'd have to scale it down. Khoa took his time and redesigned it for me so that it still had all the same beautiful qualities but it would hold up a lot better over time. This review is for both Sarazah and Soky. The first tattoo I had done here was by Sarazah. I was a walk-in and had a rough sketch with me. He gave me great suggestions on how to improve my sketch, which I was glad to hear. He was very patient and personable. He also didn't mind that I had my two roommates with me, who both really wanted to see a tattoo done. Sarazah also touched up two of my other tattoos. All of the work he did for me came out beautifully and I've gotten a lot of complements his work. Soky did a great job on my other tattoo I had done here. He was patient and listened intently to what I wanted done, making sure everything was perfect. He engaged me in conversation and was very amiable. Soky did a great job on my tattoo!It's not only the great work that keeps me coming back to Skin Art Studio - it's also the customer service. If the work was amazing, but the service was lacking, I'd go elsewhere. But this place is all around great!
