I had a great experience at Redemption getting my very first tattoo. I really like that you book appointments by reaching out to the artist you specifically want to work with. They have portfolios of the artsists' work on the website. Based on Yelp reviews, I chose Andy Reach and he was great. In order to reserve your timeslot, you send a deposit to your artist (I chose to do so via Venmo), for me it was $60. After you receive the tattoo you pay the remaining amount, $40 for me. [Note: $100 is the minimum fee at Redemption, even for a small tattoo like mine. I was happy to pay that knowing I'm working with a great artist at a reputable shop, but you can probably find cheaper for small, single-color tattoos elsewhere.] Don't forget to tip too!Andy did a great job on my tattoo. I had a really specific design (the 3 stars from the corner of the page in the Harry Potter books) and he copied it exactly. He was very honest and upfront with me about what size and location would last well instead of promising something that would never work long term. I left with a slightly bigger tattoo than I'd anticipated, but I feel confident that it won't fade or blur like the smaller size I'd initially planned on. All in, I was probably under the needle for 20 minutes tops. It felt like someone digging their fingernail into your skin. Sure, it hurts, but no biggie.A month and a half later, my tattoo has healed really nicely and looks great. It bled a little bit the first night but other than that healing was fairly quick and easy. I will absolutely come back to Redemption and Andy specifically if/when I decide to get my next tattoo.

This studio has great artists at reasonable rates in great spot in town (with a brand new shop to boot). Deidre Doyle designed an impressive half sleeve for me taking into account my expectations and design preferences. She added her own touch from her 15+ years of experience and I couldn't be more pleased with the result. From the consultation, flexibility in scheduling, quality of work, to staff at the shop, I'd recommend this place to all ( I'm gotten tattoos at 4 other places in New York and Boston and this is tops).

i would love to give this shop a better review. i really would. but my tattoo looks like a child's drawing. one eye is way bigger than the other, and one eyebrow is way longer than the other. i am embarrassed to have it on my body and am now looking desperately for someone to cover it up. i paid wayyyyy too much for this. $250. i feel bad leaving this review, but this is not ok.edit: just called back to see what they could do, and the owner just so happened to be the man who did my tattoo. he was rude at the end of our call, saying he traced exactly what i gave him. the lines are not straight, so i know that's untrue. i now have to find someone to fix what they did to me here. DO NOT GO HERE!! you WONT get refunded for the mess they make.

Went to a couple shops looking for a cover up before stopping in here. They spent time coming up with ideas and I set an appointment. Went in to work with Jebb and couldn't be happier with his work. I've already booked my next two appointments with him. The shop is incredibly clean, staff is very professional and does a great job. Highly recommended.

Reached out to Adam LoRusso on the off chance that he had time for a small wrist tattoo. I had looked into his art on Instagram (@adamlorusso) and loved his floral work. Quick and professional on emails. When the day came, he took the time to talk placement over with me which may seem like a requirement but I appreciated it as it's my first tattoo that will be plainly visible. He let me take my time getting used to it before we dove in which made me feel at ease. Very easy to talk to and his line work is beautiful. Shop was clean, comfortable and very well organized.There is street parking with a meter which was very convenient you can pay with coins or an app. The other artists in the shop were in high spirits which made it that much more pleasant. Went back for a touch up a few weeks later, fell in love with it even more. So happy to have met and be tattooed by him. Will absolutely be back in the future.

I could not be happier with my new tattoo! We had several friends recommend Redemption Tattoo and after reading a review on Yelp from another satisfied customer, my sister and I decided to go with Andy Reach for our handwriting tattoos. Andy was super friendly and easy going throughout the entire process, we felt completely comfortable nitpicking about sizing and tiny details. Andy did a fantastic job on the incredibly fine line work of our tattoos and they came out beautiful! The handwriting is spot on and the entire tattoo is flawless. I would absolutely recommend Andy and would definitely return for future tattoos!

First tattoo here. Came by on a Friday and made my appointment for the upcoming Monday. Very quick in my opinion. I came to Andy with an idea and he made it a masterpiece. His line work and shading is on point. I was very nervous all along but when I saw the finished product I was freed of all doubt. Doubt I had about getting a tattoo and not about Andy. I trusted Andy from the start. Chill vibe from everyone there. Most definitely recommend. Thanks Andy!

After temporarily re-locating to the Boston area, I started looking for an artist/shop to get a Somerville-themed piece. While there were some artists who peaked my interest elsewhere, I ultimately knew I had to go with Andy Reach at Redemption.First, Andy's work is brilliant. I could try to go into the whys and hows, but it speaks for itself. Really. Just go check it out on instagram. Second, Redemption is just a damn good shop. The people there are friendly, professional, and experts at what they do. Also, doesn't hurt that they're conveniently located just about on the Cambridge/Somerville border.So after a quick in-person consultation (where Andy asked a lot of great questions, to be sure he understood what I was looking for), I scheduled my appointment. Day of, I arrive at the shop and am super impressed with what he had done. I asked for Prospect Tower (Union Square) and he delivered on my expectations and more.The tattoo experience itself was a bit grueling (piece was done on my side, above the hips and just at the edge of the rib cage), but Andy made it as good a experience as it can be. By the end, I was a bit delirious, but incredibly excited to have my vision realized in all its glory.Will certainly add some photos to yelp once healed, but highly recommend anyone thinking about a tattoo to check him out. I hope I get to make it back for another before heading back to the west coast.

Recently had 2 pieces done by Mike Shea (co-owner) and I don't think there are enough kind words out there, to say about Mike and the studio. Mike was warm/ welcoming. Other artists that were present, while I was there for both my consultation and actual appointment, made me feel very comfortable. Space was extremely clean and organized. Once you're there, it's clear how high "professionalism" and "service" are ranked, as far as studio values. Mike is an exceptionally talented artist and tattooist - I actually came to Mike with artwork and he did an outstanding job bringing it to life. He's also a great conversationalist so it made the time fly! Would highly, HIGHLY, recommend Mike and really everyone at Redemption. Will be going back for my next couple of pieces!

This is my second tattoo and my first was about 4 years ago so i was a bit anxious as I forgot the process. Deirdre is a true professional!! I gave her 4 different references and wanted something from each. She drew up my tattoo in no time and I could seriously say I had NO changes! She is professional, personable and an AMAZING tattoo artist. She made me feel completely comfortable. I am happy to say I have an artist for life. Thank you Deirdre for your patience and your gift to put me at ease! It came out perfect and exactly as I had envisioned!!

Andy Reach is a g.d. legend. The short version: Andy was a stellar professional, and a ton of fun to work with, and made me feel at ease from his first email all the way to the tattoo itself. And to boot, the tattoo itself looks stellar. Highly recommended if you want to work with an artist who'll partner with you with no pretense and no BS, and have a great time doing it.Backstory: This was my first tattoo, and I had several questions before getting my tattoo. Andy was incredibly patient, helpful, and fun to work with throughout. He was meticulous about addressing my questions and concerns prior to the day of and working with me on some changes, and equally attentive to detail in trying to get my stencil and line done perfectly before starting on the tattoo itself. I really appreciated that. I did weeks of research on shops and artists, and am really happy I came in to see Andy in the end. Can't wait to go back for more.

My long and tiring first tattoo process has finally come to an end and I could not be happier with the results thanks to Deirdre Doyle. I have spent 10 months doing extensive research and looking at so many artists portfolios. I came across Redemption Tattoo online and immediately was enchanted with Deirdre's work. I stopped by to speak with her and talked about my design and she was very friendly and accommodating. The tattoo was scheduled for a week after(they do take walk ins depending on availability but I wanted mine on a specific day). I basically spent the entire day freaking out nervous as this was my first tattoo and I was convincing myself I would somehow pass out. Good news: I DIDN'T! I can't say enough about how comfortable Deirdre made me feel, how friendly and calming she was and how much her whole demeanor helped put me at ease. The tat itself(my first, yay!) was on my upper arm(a leo zodiac sign with a mermaid tail) and it didn't hurt as bad as I thought. It was more of a mild inconvenience than actual pain. Took about an hour and I paid 100+ and was so happy with it. Thank you for such a great experience, Deirdre. I'm already thinking about my next one!

Andy Reach is an amazing young artist and a really great guy. He designed a 3/4 sleeve tattoo to cover an old shoulder piece I had. When I arrived for the appointment and saw the stencil I wasn't completely in love with it. The design itself was artistically amazing, but there were a few things I wanted to change. Andy, offered to redesign the whole thing for me. He was adamant that we not proceed until I thought the design was perfect for me. I never felt any pressure to go forward until I was ready. So despite me wasting a 4 hour block of his time, he went back to the drawing board for no additional deposit or payments and redesigned the tattoo based on reference material I later emailed him.When I came back the second time I absolutely loved his new design. He incorporated my reference material into his own art style and the result speaks for itself. The tattoo experience was excellent. Andy is meticulous with his work, which is what I would expect from a dedicated artist. The lines session took about 3.5 hours but he rounded down to 3, which I thought was a really classy move. Redemption is an expensive place, and most of the artists are booked far out in advance, but if you're serious about quality, design, customer service, and professionalism... go see Andy Reach.

I could not be happier with my experience at Redemption, and with Andy Reach. This being my first tattoo, I did my fair share of research. My grandmother had just passed away and I wanted to get something in remembrance of her so I wanted it to be perfect. I searched high and low on google, and yelp, and didn't find too many places that really stuck out to me. I am from RI and I was wiling to travel for my tattoo. I had come across someone on Instagram who had gotten a similar tattoo like the one I wanted. This tattoo was done by Andy. I saw that he had recently switched tattoo shops and was now at Redemption. I saw his work online and was thoroughly impressed. I contacted Andy via email and he responded very quickly. He recommended that I come in for a consultation but we could always discuss via email if that was not an option. A few days later I drove up for my consolation. The shop itself is small, but very nice and clean. There I was able to meet Andy, show him what I wanted and pay my $60 deposit (deposit is cash only). I made my appt for 2 weeks after the consultation. I received a call a few days before my appt to confirm my appt which was nice. I came in this past Sunday, Andy made me feel comfortable and made sure that I liked the placement of the tattoo. He did an unbelievable job. When I saw that tattoo for the first time after he finished I cried. It couldn't not have come out better. I will absolutely be visiting Andy and Redemption tattoo again.

Jebb Riley gave me a tattoo that went above and beyond my expectations (the photos I'm attaching of it don't show the extent of the detail and precision, but trust me), despite the fact that I wasn't able to speak with him in person prior to having it done (I lived on the West Coast so all of our communication was via email till the day of).Also, on a scale of 1-10, 1 being nope, 10 being go, I have a 3 for pain threshold. Jebb was quietly cognizant of that and patiently worked on different areas of my arm so that I could "recover" before going back to the parts that had been at one point to hard to work on.Whether you're getting your 1st or 50th tattoo, check out Jebb's portfolio. If you like what you see, reach out to him. You'll be glad you did (I know I am!).Redemption itself is the cleanest tattoo shop I've ever stepped foot in and it's clear that there's pride in that, as well as the decor. I overheard some of the other artists talking, and it's also clear that they take their work seriously and genuinely want to make sure their clients are happy. I've read some other reviews claiming that it's pricey. I disagree. For the quality and effort that went into my tattoo, I feel that the price was more than reasonable.

I've gotten quite a few tattoos in my life. Never have I met such a responsible and professional artist such as Mike Shea. Not to take away from his amazing artistic abilities, but his communication to setup an appointment and then to follow through with having the artwork ready for the appointment is huge.
Sounds crazy but the majority of tattoo artist I have dealt with blow you off for appointments, aren't ready when you show up, or just ignore your emails and phone calls all together. I'm excited I have found Mike and cant wait to continue working with him on my next tattoo.

Adam is extremely extremely talented and professional. I booked with him for three sessions six months in advance for a half sleeve and it was well worth it. He knew exactly what I was looking for and added his creative brain to make an exceptional end result that was even better than I could've imagined. There is a reason he is booked so far out. I highly recommend Adam. I am heading back to him for a cover-up of an old tattoo as well and I can't wait. Redemption is also super clean and everyone is very nice there as well. I don't think I could've had a better experience.

Love it! My friend and I walked in on Sunday and were greeted immediately by the adorable shop dog (literally). We did not have an appointment but Roger and the owner, Craig, hopped right to it to see what we wanted and began sketches (with various options for both of our designs) and tattooed us immediately. Our designs were incredibly simple but we knew what we wanted and they both did great work, were friendly and easy to work with. Overall it was a very easy process and I'll definitely be back.

Got my first tattoo with Salty Dave at Redemption and it was a great experience. Dave showed me his sketch of an image I sent him. It was perfect! He is an amazing artist, and really takes care of you when tattooing. Made sure I was comfortable the whole 2 1/2 hours. The tribal hummingbird tattoo is exactly how I envisioned it! Thanks so much Dave, I highly recommend you!

Reached out to Adam LoRusso on the off chance that he had time for a small wrist tattoo. I had looked into his art on Instagram (@adamlorusso) and loved his floral work. Quick and professional on emails. When the day came, he took the time to talk placement over with me which may seem like a requirement but I appreciated it as it's my first tattoo that will be plainly visible. He let me take my time getting used to it before we dove in which made me feel at ease. Very easy to talk to and his line work is beautiful. Shop was clean, comfortable and very well organized.There is street parking with a meter which was very convenient you can pay with coins or an app. The other artists in the shop were in high spirits which made it that much more pleasant. Went back for a touch up a few weeks later, fell in love with it even more. So happy to have met and be tattooed by him. Will absolutely be back in the future.

I could not be happier with my new tattoo! We had several friends recommend Redemption Tattoo and after reading a review on Yelp from another satisfied customer, my sister and I decided to go with Andy Reach for our handwriting tattoos. Andy was super friendly and easy going throughout the entire process, we felt completely comfortable nitpicking about sizing and tiny details. Andy did a fantastic job on the incredibly fine line work of our tattoos and they came out beautiful! The handwriting is spot on and the entire tattoo is flawless. I would absolutely recommend Andy and would definitely return for future tattoos!

First tattoo here. Came by on a Friday and made my appointment for the upcoming Monday. Very quick in my opinion. I came to Andy with an idea and he made it a masterpiece. His line work and shading is on point. I was very nervous all along but when I saw the finished product I was freed of all doubt. Doubt I had about getting a tattoo and not about Andy. After temporarily re-locating to the Boston area, I started looking for an artist/shop to get a Somerville-themed piece. While there were some artists who peaked my interest elsewhere, I ultimately knew I had to go with Andy Reach at Redemption.First, Andy's work is brilliant. I could try to go into the whys and hows, but it speaks for itself. Really. Just go check it out on instagram. Second, Redemption is just a damn good shop. The people there are friendly, professional, and experts at what they do. Also, doesn't hurt that they're conveniently located just about on the Cambridge/Somerville border.So after a quick in-person consultation (where Andy asked a lot of great questions, to be sure he understood what I was looking for), I scheduled my appointment. Day of, I arrive at the shop and am super impressed with what he had done. I asked for Prospect Tower (Union Square) and he delivered on my expectations and more.The tattoo experience itself was a bit grueling (piece was done on my side, above the hips and just at the edge of the rib cage), but Andy made it as good a experience as it can be. By the end, I was a bit delirious, but incredibly excited to have my vision realized in all its glory.Will certainly add some photos to yelp once healed, but highly recommend anyone thinking about a tattoo to check him out. I hope I get to make it back for another before heading back to the west coast.

Recently had 2 pieces done by Mike Shea (co-owner) and I don't think there are enough kind words out there, to say about Mike and the studio. Mike was warm/ welcoming. Other artists that were present, while I was there for both my consultation and actual appointment, made me feel very comfortable. Space was extremely clean and organized. Once you're there, it's clear how high "professionalism" and "service" are ranked, as far as studio values. Mike is an exceptionally talented artist and tattooist - I actually came to Mike with artwork and he did an outstanding job bringing it to life. He's also a great conversationalist so it made the time fly! Would highly, HIGHLY, recommend Mike and really everyone at Redemption. Will be going back for my next couple of pieces!

This is my second tattoo and my first was about 4 years ago so i was a bit anxious as I forgot the process. Deirdre is a true professional!! I gave her 4 different references and wanted something from each. She drew up my tattoo in no time and I could seriously say I had NO changes! She is professional, personable and an AMAZING tattoo artist. She made me feel completely comfortable. I am happy to say I have an artist for life. Andy Reach is a g.d. legend. The short version: Andy was a stellar professional, and a ton of fun to work with, and made me feel at ease from his first email all the way to the tattoo itself. And to boot, the tattoo itself looks stellar. Highly recommended if you want to work with an artist who'll partner with you with no pretense and no BS, and have a great time doing it.Backstory: This was my first tattoo, and I had several questions before getting my tattoo. Andy was incredibly patient, helpful, and fun to work with throughout. He was meticulous about addressing my questions and concerns prior to the day of and working with me on some changes, and equally attentive to detail in trying to get my stencil and line done perfectly before starting on the tattoo itself. I really appreciated that. I did weeks of research on shops and artists, and am really happy I came in to see Andy in the end. Can't wait to go back for more.

My long and tiring first tattoo process has finally come to an end and I could not be happier with the results thanks to Deirdre Doyle. I have spent 10 months doing extensive research and looking at so many artists portfolios. I came across Redemption Tattoo online and immediately was enchanted with Deirdre's work. I stopped by to speak with her and talked about my design and she was very friendly and accommodating. The tattoo was scheduled for a week after(they do take walk ins depending on availability but I wanted mine on a specific day). I basically spent the entire day freaking out nervous as this was my first tattoo and I was convincing myself I would somehow pass out. Good news: I DIDN'T! I can't say enough about how comfortable Deirdre made me feel, how friendly and calming she was and how much her whole demeanor helped put me at ease. The tat itself(my first, yay!) was on my upper arm(a leo zodiac sign with a mermaid tail) and it didn't hurt as bad as I thought. It was more of a mild inconvenience than actual pain. Took about an hour and I paid 100+ and was so happy with it. Thank you for such a great experience, Deirdre. I'm already thinking about my next one!

Andy Reach is an amazing young artist and a really great guy. He designed a 3/4 sleeve tattoo to cover an old shoulder piece I had. When I arrived for the appointment and saw the stencil I wasn't completely in love with it. The design itself was artistically amazing, but there were a few things I wanted to change. Andy, offered to redesign the whole thing for me. He was adamant that we not proceed until I thought the design was perfect for me. I never felt any pressure to go forward until I was ready. So despite me wasting a 4 hour block of his time, he went back to the drawing board for no additional deposit or payments and redesigned the tattoo based on reference material I later emailed him.When I came back the second time I absolutely loved his new design. He incorporated my reference material into his own art style and the result speaks for itself. The tattoo experience was excellent. Andy is meticulous with his work, which is what I would expect from a dedicated artist. The lines session took about 3.5 hours but he rounded down to 3, which I thought was a really classy move. Redemption is an expensive place, and most of the artists are booked far out in advance, but if you're serious about quality, design, customer service, and professionalism... go see Andy Reach.

I could not be happier with my experience at Redemption, and with Andy Reach. This being my first tattoo, I did my fair share of research. My grandmother had just passed away and I wanted to get something in remembrance of her so I wanted it to be perfect. I searched high and low on google, and yelp, and didn't find too many places that really stuck out to me. I am from RI and I was wiling to travel for my tattoo. I had come across someone on Instagram who had gotten a similar tattoo like the one I wanted. This tattoo was done by Andy. I saw that he had recently switched tattoo shops and was now at Redemption. I saw his work online and was thoroughly impressed. I contacted Andy via email and he responded very quickly. He recommended that I come in for a consultation but we could always discuss via email if that was not an option. A few days later I drove up for my consolation. The shop itself is small, but very nice and clean. There I was able to meet Andy, show him what I wanted and pay my $60 deposit (deposit is cash only). I made my appt for 2 weeks after the consultation. I received a call a few days before my appt to confirm my appt which was nice. I came in this past Sunday, Andy made me feel comfortable and made sure that I liked the placement of the tattoo. He did an unbelievable job. When I saw that tattoo for the first time after he finished I cried. It couldn't not have come out better. I will absolutely be visiting Andy and Redemption tattoo again.

Jebb Riley gave me a tattoo that went above and beyond my expectations (the photos I'm attaching of it don't show the extent of the detail and precision, but trust me), despite the fact that I wasn't able to speak with him in person prior to having it done (I lived on the West Coast so all of our communication was via email till the day of).Also, on a scale of 1-10, 1 being nope, 10 being go, I have a 3 for pain threshold. Jebb was quietly cognizant of that and patiently worked on different areas of my arm so that I could "recover" before going back to the parts that had been at one point to hard to work on.Whether you're getting your 1st or 50th tattoo, check out Jebb's portfolio. If you like what you see, reach out to him. You'll be glad you did (I know I am!).Redemption itself is the cleanest tattoo shop I've ever stepped foot in and it's clear that there's pride in that, as well as the decor. I overheard some of the other artists talking, and it's also clear that they take their work seriously and genuinely want to make sure their clients are happy. I've read some other reviews claiming that it's pricey. I disagree. For the quality and effort that went into my tattoo, I feel that the price was more than reasonable.

I've gotten quite a few tattoos in my life. Never have I met such a responsible and professional artist such as Mike Shea. Not to take away from his amazing artistic abilities, but his communication to setup an appointment and then to follow through with having the artwork ready for the appointment is huge.
Sounds crazy but the majority of tattoo artist I have dealt with blow you off for appointments, aren't ready when you show up, or just ignore your emails and phone calls all together. I'm excited I have found Mike and cant wait to continue working with him on my next tattoo.

Adam is extremely extremely talented and professional. I booked with him for three sessions six months in advance for a half sleeve and it was well worth it. He knew exactly what I was looking for and added his creative brain to make an exceptional end result that was even better than I could've imagined. There is a reason he is booked so far out. I highly recommend Adam. I am heading back to him for a cover-up of an old tattoo as well and I can't wait. Redemption is also super clean and everyone is very nice there as well. I don't think I could've had a better experience.

Love it! My friend and I walked in on Sunday and were greeted immediately by the adorable shop dog (literally). We did not have an appointment but Roger and the owner, Craig, hopped right to it to see what we wanted and began sketches (with various options for both of our designs) and tattooed us immediately. Our designs were incredibly simple but we knew what we wanted and they both did great work, were friendly and easy to work with. Overall it was a very easy process and I'll definitely be back.

Got my first tattoo with Salty Dave at Redemption and it was a great experience. Dave showed me his sketch of an image I sent him. It was perfect! He is an amazing artist, and really takes care of you when tattooing. Made sure I was comfortable the whole 2 1/2 hours. The tribal hummingbird tattoo is exactly how I envisioned it!
