Let's just say I'm not white. So before starting the removal process Rob made it clear that we'd have to be extra careful with frequency and laser strength to avoid discoloration. At the start of every return visit I had with Rob, we spent time looking for evidence of hypo/hyper-pigmentation and proceeded accordingly. After only 5 sessions here my tattoo had faded considerably and was almost gone. Towards the last few sessions we even extended the time between visits to achieve the most fading with the least amount of "zaps". I was starting to feel pretty hopeful that I'd be another one of the 5 star reviews on here with a tattoo that had been completely removed with little to no scarring. They even had me sign paperwork saying my before and after pictures could be used! - that's how good things were looking. My last session here was not with Rob....and with an almost completely faded tattoo, evidence of slight hypo-pigmentation and an estimated one or two sessions remaining, they decided to up the strength of the laser "in order to get at the last bits of ink". While that last session may have indeed gotten to those last bits of ink, I was left with so much hyper-pigmentation that my "after" photo actually looks more like a "before" photo.Was it a mistake to switch technicians? Should I have given it a few more months before another "zap"? Many of the stellar reviews here seem to lean toward Rob doing less and waiting more once a tattoo is mostly faded to avoid exactly this situation! In all my previous sessions Rob made a point to stick to a low setting because of my darker skin tone. I wish I would have been given the option to do more sessions at a lower strength instead of now needing to apply a bleaching cream and pray that it doesn't do more damage. Rob is AMAZING. I went to him with a giant tattoo on my shoulder that looked like an enormous black lightbulb blob thing. Lettering around it to make it worse. Look, I know everyone's skin is different and all inks are different-- but rob knows his STUFF and will give you an honest answer about what your results will look like. I bought a 10 session package and only used 7- Rob wouldn't laser my skin after the 7th because the skin no longer had enough traces of ink to hit with the laser. He wanted to avoid hyperpigmentation and scarring on my skin, and assured me that the remaining traces of ink would fade away. Those sessions were expensive- and I didn't even care about not using them because I was just so happy that Rob was honest with me. "Look I could zap you again, but you'd have scarring." He sincerely only cared about getting me optimal results. And he did!!! My tattoo is completely gone. In the summertime when I get a tan, you can almost see a vague outline. A faint, faint, FAINT one. In the winter, it's completely invisible. My family called what disappearing inc did for me "a miracle." I was so scared that one day, I'd be in a beautiful wedding gown with a giant prison-tattoo on my shoulder. My tattoo is gone. To the naked eye, nobody would ever know I had one. When I tell people I had one removed, I have to make them squint really hard and point to the area where it used to be. It's a long process, but the results are worth it. I just started my process of removing an old tattoo and I am so excited about it! This place is super cute, very clean and everyone that works there is so friendly. It being my first session I was a little nervous and almost expecting that kind of vibe when you walk into a tattoo shop which isn't always the most inviting, but this was completely the opposite. Most definitely a 5 Star experience for laser removal! Rob did my first session and took the time to educate me on exactly what happens during laser and a rough estimate of how long it would take. He noticed I had what I thought was a scar on my nose from a piercing but turned out it was actually stained from the metal! I got my first tattoo in Dec of 2017. A week after the tattoo I noticed that the ink seemed to have spread and my "heart" tattoo was now a misshapen triangle. Having had no previous experience w tattoos I thought that it would resolve itself and that this was all part of the healing process. Unfortunately, the tattoo remained a weird blob and almost a year later I wanted to get rid of it. I extensively researched where I could get a tattoo removal, discovering that Derms charge an arm and a leg and most laser centers are pretty pricey as well. I came across Disappearing Ink on Yelp, read all the fantastic reviews and decided to give it a shot. The price is also much more affordable. I scheduled a consultation w/ Rob and told him all about my horrible experience both in the tattooing of my "heart" and watching it turn into a blob. Rob explained to me exactly what happened to my tattoo, why it turned into a blob, and what we could do to fix it. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about tattooing and the removal process. I personally was a bit skeptical and really wanted to go to a doctor for fear of having another bad experience but I am so glad I went to Rob instead. For those who are leaning towards going to a Derm I would argue that while they do know a lot about the skin, dermatologists (for the most part) do not understand a lot about tattooing which is obviously a huge component in the removal process/technique. Rob answered all my questions and made me feel very comfortable about the procedure. He did not make any outlandish promises and was very honest with me about how the treatment would go and gave me realistic expectations. I appreciated his honesty and candor very much. You truly (in my opinion) will not find a better place or more knowledgeable staff than disappearing ink. I am always skeptical about 5-star Yelp locations because of all the businesses that make up their own reviews, but Disappearing inc. deserves 10 stars if they could. Since I used Yelp reviews to find Disappearing inc., I thought it was only fair that I leave a review to convince others to go there!I'm in the process of removing my second tattoo (first removal was done several years ago by someone else) and the experience has been nothing less than great. I have (almost had) an ankle tattoo that had so much ink in it, that it was essentially pop art. I started my treatment at Tataway on South St. in Boston. I went to about 6 or 7 treatments with them, and saw extremely minimal results (and that is putting it kindly). To say I was frustrated would be an absolute understatement. I've been through this process before, and had realistic expectations, but having no results was disheartening. The women at Tataway are very, very nice.  I'm just not sure they have the right training and knowledge on how to use a laser to its full potential... At this point, I was 100% convinced my tattoo was made up of laser resistant ink... Which brought me to Rob @ Disappearing Inc! Guys. World of difference. I've been to probably about 4 sessions, and my tattoo has faded so dramatically, and will likely be completely cleared in about 3 or 4 more sessions. First that I want to start from is to think twice before doing any tattoo or permanent makeup, and of course do a great research beforehand so you don't have a mistake or reminder of it on your body or face. I'm really glad that I found Disappearing inc. on internet as not a lot of laser tattoo removal places offer permanent makeup removal especially on eyebrows for it's close to eyes and there is some sort of risk to it. However in Europe this treatment is very common. I have a (perhaps) biggest mistake (eyebrow permanent makeup) on my face made by some lady in LA, and when I say permanent I really mean it. My tattooed brows stay put for no less than 3-4 years. I can't even remember well, it seems as forever. When I was doing it I didn't know anything about permanent makeup I just wanted to wake up every morning and not having to put a makeup on. The lady tattooed it so deep into the skin that a pigment turned red in some time. Not to mention that she did the brows uneven in color. So you can imagine my disappointment, and I still have to put my makeup on every morning and try hard to cover the red brows.To the main point! When I came to Disappearing I was apprehensive of getting scarring, discoloration or hypopigmentation after laser (I did visit another laser removal office before that and they showed me some scary results of tattoo removals, though they never showed me photos of their brow removals just regular tattoos, so how could I judge by that whether to use their service or not, if they don't have a portfolio). However Rob not only consulted me and showed me pictures of his clients's eyebrow tattoo removals, he also offered me to do a testing shot on a less visible spot and see how it turns out. That was really nice of him for you never know how your very skin and tattoo will react. Rob made an impression that he really cares of the result and his clients as oppose just to get the treatment done and filling his pockets. When I came home I was so happy to see that there was no bad reaction and I couldn't wait to get a full treatment.I did my second visit a couple of weeks ago, we've done an easy laser to get the red eyebrows slowly but surely off my face without hypopigmentation and all other things. Rob truly cares! You don't even have to be a client, he just cares and he gets it. I have somewhat of a horror story relating to my tattoo and its subsequent removal. I got a bad tattoo in 2008 and started the process of removal in 2013 at a dermatologist's office. After not seeing satisfying results following my 6th treatment, I went to Tataway for treatments 7 and 8. No real results there either, so I then trekked to Baltimore from NYC to see another dermatologist, who gave me 5 more treatments over the course of a year. Unfortunately, although he got the most ink out, he also left my skin damaged with a lot of hypopigmentation and skin lightening. I was frustrated and stumbled across Disappearing Inc. by chance during the course of online research. Rob literally sat with me for an hour, FOR FREE, explained to me the damage that was already caused and went over the few options I had at trying to get my skin back. He suggested that I get a cover-up of the portion of my tattoo that had color, since I wouldn't be able to get that out given my skin tone (V) without further hypo. I was upset and dismayed knowing I spent over $3000 trying to rid myself of this tattoo, but Rob was truly caring, patient and considerate and did not pressure or rush me out of his office. Five stars for his bedside manner alone. I finally decided that I would consider the coverup but not without removing the last bit of black ink in one part of my tattoo that is already 90 percent gone. I returned two weeks later so that he could perform my final treatment. His knowledge, customer service, and people skills are just stellar and beyond what I expected. First let me start off by saying my wife found this place after I had been going to Tataway and have not been happy with the results. My tattoo artist who will be doing the tattoo coverup told me it should have been a lot more faded than what it was. So my wife then found Disappearing Inc on Yelp and I'm happy that she did. Just had my first session yesterday and saw Rob. Unlike Tataway,Rob actually took his time with both icing the area and the actual laser part. So I called and asked for a consult appointment and they booked me for a removal session, needless to say, they charged me a cancellation fee, even though I showed up. It's not my fault the person on the phone said one thing and did another. This was my second time going, I was only given estimates for 2 of my 4 tattoo's. And I wanted my smaller two prices as well as I was going somewhere else an really liked disappearing inc. I was upset about how I was treated once I said t...hat I wasn't having done, it was like I was being shoved out the door. Mind you they have amazing technology, are very smart and knowledgeable, and it's virtually painless. I was highly recommending everyone to go here because they are that good. But after today and being treated the way we were and the attitude, my fiancé and me were given, now I don't know if I want to go there again. When I had my first consult, I brought both my kids with me, as I don't have anyone to help me with them, and both my boys have autism. So needless to say, it was hard to go through everything with the kids there. I got my first session done here about 2 weeks ago. I am almost 100% covered in tattoos and wanted to get rid of some old stuff to make room for newer tattoos.Despite having a lot of tattoos, I had no idea what to expect getting them removed. But the staff was very friendly and accommodating to my questions and ideas.After talking about the procedure I opted to get two areas done. Cold air is blown on the area prior to getting it removed and that numbs it up fairly well. It doesn't necessarily take all the pain away, but it without question makes it tolerable.Honestly I feel like getting my tattoos hurt way more than getting them removed. It just kind of felt like rubber bands snapping against your skin. After the procedure, I was given instructions on after care and set up another appointment. Overall it was a breeze and I am actually looking forward to going back. I waited a couple weeks to post this review because I wanted to see what the healing process was like. It's actually easier than the healing of a new tattoo. At first it feels like a mild sun burn, and after a few days it kind of just itches every now and again. Even though it's the first session, I already noticed my tattoo is a bit lighter(you exponentially see better results the more you go). I am pretty impressed as well because the work being removed is dark and was professionally done by a great artist, so the removal exceeded my expectations. Rob and his staff are excellent and I look forward to going back and doing more sessions so I can get newer tattoos in the future. Absolutely the best. I'm not sure what Rob's background is in business, but he 100% hit the nail on the head in how he is running his business. From all aspects. From the very personable woman that greets you at the front (I'm so mad at myself for not remembering her name right now. I want to say it's Meg but I'm not sure? I'm ashamed.), to his chair-side manner. Both are fabulous. They've both had tattoos removed so they can speak from experience. They both make you feel so comfortable! For the consult, it took about 30-45 minutes which I think is key. That is one of the main things that sold me on this. Any consult I've ever been to, if I am in and out in under 10 minutes I 99% of the time don't go through with it.Rob under promises and I am certain is over delivering. We decided on 10-12 sessions to remove the stupid mistake I made and decided to place right on my chest. I've only had two sessions and the difference is huge!! YES it hurts. More than getting the tattoo. I will not deny that, and he does not either. But, the actual laser to skin time is short making it bearable. It definitely hurts less than the pain of looking at your childish, immature, thoughtless decisions you made as soon at you turned 18. Yes, it's scabby (is scabby a word?) as it's getting removed. I've only had to have one tattoo removed, and thankfully I had it done by Rob as Disappearing Inc.The consultation was great. Rob's bedside manner is fantastic and he's quick to explain the whys and hows of the laser removal procedure. So I just had my first appointment and I'm gonna go ahead and write a quick review based on that experience. Yeah so this guy Rob is very knowledgeable in the field of tattoo removal and lasers in general.  I felt confident in his abilities. He comes off as a very ethically sound man and I appreciate that quality in another human being.The process itself was thoroughly described to me and I was made to feel very comfortable. The treatment kinda hurts, yeah it kinda sucks but it's real quick and nothing u can't handle if you've sat through hours of tattoo applications. We all make mistakes. Some of us make them while drinking Malibu Rum. On our 18th birthdays. Within walking distance of Laguna Tattoo. I, sadly, am one of these people. For 20-some years I wore my mistake, and eventually I decided that I'm not an angry gutter punk anymore. Why look like one? For the record, I loooove tattoos, I just hate this one that I have. I do have a basis for comparison. About a year ago, I had one tattoo removal session at a different place in Cambridge - it worked okay, but it hurt so badly that I literally could not even bring myself to consider another session for a YEAR. It made childbirth feel like a club Med vacation, and the blisters lasted for weeks. But a half-blasted tattoo is really not acceptable - they look *jacked*. So I waited until I was between boyfriends (blisters, you remember) bought a Groupon, and decided to give Disappearing Inc a try. Two days before the Groupon expired, I dragged myself to my appointment with my feet scuffing and my head hanging low like Charlie Brown. I expected once again to be cooked and unceremoniously shown the door. WRONG.Rob is the man. He explained the chemistry and physics involved in layman's terms, made me feel like I was part of the process, didn't bull$hit me, AND he used a magic machine to freeze-numb the area before he turned on the laser. His methods made the whole thing SO much less painful, I cannot even explain. Note: This is still tattoo removal, not a massage with a happy ending. It hurt about as badly as getting the tats in the first place. But at least it wasn't a cannibal barbecue like last time.The process will be long. But I know I'm in good hands. A friend of mine recommended Disappearing Inc., and Rob (the owner) did not disappoint!  I had a Living Social coupon which he honored quickly and easily.  I never thought I'd want to remove any of the tattoos I have, but ... the one Rob will be disappearing is on my middle finger (the words "Why So Serious") and I got it when I was working at a company I thought I'd be retiring from.  Not so much!  Anyway, interviewing with a middle finger tat, not such a good idea.  I would recommend Rob and Disappearing Inc to anyone looking to remove a tat!I come in from the suburbs and take the T, Red Line, and his place is right across the street from Park St.  VERY convenient!
