Terrible service. Went in to get a matching tattoo with my sister, and we were treated very rudely. They split us up between two tattoo artists even though there were no other customers there, which kind of defeats the fun of getting a matching tattoo with someone. I have a tattoo on my side already and I wanted the new one right under it. Frankie was helping me and he was putting it on very crooked and when he was about to attempt for the third time he told me this was the last try on putting the outline on. That pissed me off. I am here paying $150 a piece for these matching tattoos that are extremely small and he isn't going to keep trying until it isn't crooked? When i told him it still wasn't correct he threw a fit and refused to tattoo me. At this point my sister was already being tattooed and I didn't even get to help make sure hers was put on correctly. Someone else had to step in and help me and he was able to put it on correctly after the second try. We were very disappointed, our matching tattoo experience was extremely stressful and we were examining our tattoos the other day and realized THEY ARENT MATCHING. parts of mine are filled in, where on my sisters it isn't. So this place treats its customers like shit, and cant even do a matching tattoo the same on two people. That is why we shouldn't have been forced to split up. Especially since we are young looking girls they treated us like we didn't know what we were doing when my sister and I both have other tattoos. DO NOT GET YOUR TATTOO HERE. Read Less

I had an idea for a tattoo that could be best described as Inappropriate. I tried a number of different artists and finally found one willing to do the work and on the particular body part I wanted to have the art done. Then his boss saw it and said "No way, not in my shop". The artist recommend Regeneration Tattoo in Allston. I walked in and was warmly greeted by Edwin Marquez. I explained the whole story and he couldn't wait to get started. It took two seasons at over 3 hours each. I was more than a little apprehensive, but the finished product is far more that I had imagined. Edwin took the time to make some changes and suggestions to the design. I'm so glad he did. I had such a positive experience at Regeneration. I was tattooed by Edwin and he is fantastic! He was extremely helpful and suggested I change the placement from my original idea and I am sooo glad I took his advice. He really knows what he's talking about and you can tell he has a lot of experience so you can feel confident about leaving your skin in his hands (ew). I am in awe of how perfect his line work is. I got a geometric heart shape on my forearm and it's a simple design but it's honestly one of the coolest tattoos I've ever seen. The lines are so clean and I'm so excited to show it off! Got my very first tattoo here this afternoon, and was scared shitless because I have a low tolerance for pain. Edwin made me feel comfortable and safe, and talked to me about movies while he was working. It helped to distract me-because holy crap, it did hurt. Everybody there was really nice and patient, and I appreciated that no one was condescending because I had never gotten a tattoo. Got a small tattoo on my wrist here last weekend. Brian MacNeil was the artist and he was great, as was everyone there. I showed up in the morning for a walk-in and they got me in a couple hours later. They were all friendly and the place is really nice. Brian was super laid back and patient, which was particularly nice given that it was my first tattoo. Every artist does top quality work, there's always good music playing in the shop, and prices are very reasonable, especially for this level of quality and for custom work. Each artist seems to take the time to understand each client's needs and desires and they will warn you if your idea isn't going to work the way you envisioned. Had a piece done on my ribs by Brian about two weeks ago and had a great experience at Regeneration! The shop is incredibly clean and well-kept, and the artists are very professional. Altogether a very pleasant shop - none of the attitude or 'better than thou because I have more tattoos' vibe that I've felt at some other boston shops.The ONLY reason this review is four stars is because there are some fairly obvious patches where the ink didn't take along one of the thick long lines of my piece. I was in a fair amount of pain during the process (not unexpectedly, it's in a sensitive spot) so I'm sure Brian was trying to cause me the least pain possible and just get it done! I also had to return to work two days later where wearing a bra is a necessity, so healing was a bit of an issue as well. I do plan on going back soon to have it touched up, and will revise my review accordingly after it's all healed!Please note that I am NOT dissatisfied with my tattoo at all! As a matter of fact, I love it - I have a tattoo on my other side from another shop that doesn't even compare in quality. This is an excellent tattoo and Brian is an excellent artist! Can't say enough good stuff about this place. They're respectful when given the same and professional all the time. It's important when you're going to get something on your body for the rest of your life to be serious first off and to go to a place that takes it seriously and that's exactly what they do here.If you walk in chatting and joking about a tattoo you're not going to be taken seriously because it's obvious you don't care about the art going on your body. As for the actual tattoos. I have three pieces all of which were done by Brian M and Cathy. If you're serious I recommend you go in, bring the piece you want do, see if it's possible and a good idea (they'll give it to your straight) and if it is put down a deposit and schedule it. Once you get in there for your appointment you can get into the nitty gritty of making the tattoo what you want it  to be. Don't be stubborn or force some idea down their throat, if they say it's dumb it's probably dumb (they've been doing this longer than you). Another thing is that you shouldn't be going in worried about paying too much. They're not a discount tattoo shop, if you want that go elsewhere. You pay for what you get, a high-quality custom tattoo. Besides that it's a great experience, you feel amongst friends the whole time and they will help explain all the aftercare to you whether it's your first tatttoo or 100th.Best advice I can give is to find an artist you like here and stick with them (even though they're all extremely talented). You're not going to go wrong here and you'll go home knowing you been tattooed by some of the best.I posted a picture of my latest tattoo on here done by Brian M. He did a fairly detailed work that meant a lot to me and he did a killer job. this place absolutely rules. everyone at the shop seems to turn out consistently high quality work, but i'm a huge dan bythewood fan. dude rules. i mean he also works part time at new york adorned soooo..... yeah. if that tells you anything... (if it doesn't tell you anything then it just means he's really good!). i've been in a few different tattoo shops, and the thing i really appreciate about my multiple visits to regeneration is the vibe. everyone's just cool and down to earth and it's a fun place to hang out for a few hours while you're getting work done. real chill atmosphere where the artists are all really friendly and excited to show each other their work. REALLY high standards for artistry, but none of that "too cool for school" kinda stuff where they're all scoffing and rolling their eyes because you're not hip enough. i mean last week i was waiting for an appointment and they were all singing along to bob seger... the assistants are cool and friendly on the phone, and they def make you feel welcome if you're just coming in off the street. super clean too. like anally clean. which is really the appropriate standard when you're dealing with needles and blood and open wounds everywhere. that's basically all i want - top quality work, a good atmosphere, and first class cleanliness standards. i'd PREFER it be super cheap as well, but if i have to compromise somewhere, it's going to be on the last point... don't forget to tip! He told me what to expect pain-wise and always made sure I was feeling okay. I could not give any higher recommendations than that which I give to Regeneration Tattoo and Brian Macneil. In November 2012, I came to Regeneration with an idea for a quarter-sleeve tattoo and met with Brian Macneil to hash out some ideas. I brought him a bunch of pictures and basically told him to combine these pictures into one while maintaining the basic ideas I wanted. I was very vague, but when I came back for my tattoo appointment, he had perfectly drawn the outline of what I wanted. Because my tattoo is so colorful, I had no idea what he was really going to do, but the lines looked great. It was a very long six hours because of the technique Brian had to use in order to get the desired effect. For six hours Brian and I talked about nothing and everything, he was very gentle and we only took three breaks. I (and Brian!) couldn't believe he was able to finish the tattoo in one session. It was absolutely beautiful and every day I wake up, thankful that I went to Brian and Regeneration. Regeneration was in the process of building their beautiful art wall when I was there. I had no idea it was going to take up the entire wall of the place because there was no mess at all! They are so clean and professional and Brian showed me lots of new music in the hours I was there. My grandma passed away a few months ago and I had been wanting to get a cardinal tattoo in honor of her. I had some free time today so I decided to pop in and see if someone could draw it up for me. To my surprise, I was able to have the tattoo done as well. Dan, the artist, had done a cardinal recently and was happy to do mine. He's exceptionally good at doing birds! He was very professional and kind. The total process, drawing and all, took about 3 hours. I love the work he did. The bird looks realistic and my grandmas signature looks as if it were written by her. The shop is clean, and prices are pretty standard. Sunday, my friend and I wanted to get a tattoo done of the Boston skyline. We figured we were going to another tattoo shop to get it done, but they said that Saturday's were their only walk in day. It didn't say that anywhere on the website, but that's beside the point.When we couldn't get our tattoos done at that one shop, I called around to see if any place had any availability. All the places I called said they weren't free. Regeneration was one of them.We were about to go home, when Regeneration called us back! They squeezed us in, which was awesome! We were so excited to get our tattoos done!I don't know what the artist's name was, but he did a hell of a job. It looks awesome and I'm in love with it. I would totally go back to this place!
