I did my first micro blading procedure last year and I loved it so much. I picked Prettyology because of their reputation and I am glad I did as my artist (she left right after I did my eyebrows) was awesome and did exactly what I wanted. I came back this year for my annual touch up but unfortunately the result didnt turn out as good as the first time. Color was turning redish and too light so you could really differentiate my real heair vs strokes and it wasnt filled enough. When I contacted the salon a month or so after and told them about my concerns, no questions asked they made me come back for a complimentary appointement. Gina took care of me and she did an even better job than the very first time I did the procedure. She was so detail oriented, used specific instruments on me to make sure everything was perfectly done and aligned, she put me at ease especially during the "fun" part when they do the first pass and cannot numb you... I wont lie it is not a pain free procedure and you have to keep in mind that it takes a few weeks before getting the final result. So for a week you will have to stick with dark, unnatural and scratchy eyebrows, which can be annoying when you are trying not to tell the world you just did a microblading procedure, but the result worth all the inconvenience. I have amazing eyebrowys I couldnt dream of. I keep looking at them and still cant believe that this is not actual hair but just strokes. Result is so natural, the color is impecable. This is a review on their microblading, I don't mention that until further, & I wanted to preface that since this review is super long. experience started with me scheduling my appointment online with Prettyology & I specifically requested Shalyn to be my artist because after thoroughly checking everywhere online at all kinds of places around her kind of style & technique was what I was looking for & also the only reason I chose Prettyology at all. They call me to confirm the appointment & take my debt card info for a deposit & that was it. I go in for my consultation & to my surprise another artist named Brittany was performing it, she was nice & all but I didn't like the way she drew on my eyebrows at all. So after I schedule the actual procedure & drove home I called just to make sure Shalyn was still my artist & now was when they told me that it would be Brittany because Shalyn was on maternity leave. In my opinion this is kinda sketch & unprofessional, they had multiple chances to tell me Shalyn wasn't available & ask if I had another preference before taking a $300 deposit from me. Microblading is an art form just like regular tattoos & people have different approaches and styles so just giving me an artist without mentioning anything to me, in my opinion isn't right. After thoroughly looking through their Instagram I didn't see any microblading before & after pictures from Brittany so obviously I assume she hasn't had much experience doing so & decide that I'd rather have them done by Gina so in my case I didn't even get to have my consultation with the actual person doing my brows. I go in & Gina brings me & my boyfriend to the room & she was really nice & explained everything really well. I showed her some pictures of brows that I really liked & showed her how I fill my brows in, & I explained how I like a rounded arch. So she wiped off my brow makeup, which was kind of upsetting because when I did my research a lot of places will map around the way you had your brows filled in with a white pencil so they come out exactly how you want with no surprises. She filled them in to show me how they'd come out & I was happy with them. Then she wipes those off as well, so there is really no guarantee that you are going to get what you asked for. So she starts the microblading & didn't numb me on the first pass which I honestly don't understand why it hurt a lot but she numbed me after & at that point I didn't feel anything afterwards. She shows me them every once in a while and I kept saying that I wanted them closer together & she did a couple hair strokes on each brow to make them closer but after a while she said that I shouldn't get them too close. She shows them again & I tell her again I wanted them a little closer together &she does a couple hair strokes on each side. Once she was done & showed them to me I didn't know how to react, they looked nothing like how I filled them in or how she filled it in initially & I wanted to cry, I didn't want to be rude so I didn't mention much, all I said was that one was higher than the other & she said that eyebrows weren't meant to look the same anyway. After a couple days I decided that I wanted to email her & express my thoughts. She replied back & said she was sorry that I was unhappy with them. I responded to her email & showed her screenshots of other artists mapping out the shape with a white pencil & asked her if this is something she would be willing to do so that I would be able to make them the shape I wanted & SHE NEVER RESPONDED. I never went back for my free touch up because I just want these to fade away, she wouldn't have been able to fix them because one brow is basically straight while the other one looks like I'm raising my brow because it's so arched, and she gave me a rounded tail when I asked for a rounded arch, one tail is also a lot longer than the other. They literally look nothing alike. I gave 2 stars because she had nice hair strokes and the color is on point, but in the end I still wasted $600. I still fill them in everyday to make them closer & more even. I don't like making negative reviews but I feel this could be helpful to someone. Read Less

Life-changing for me - someone with barely-there blonde brows who's spent countless dollars at Sephora and Ulta, on Anastasia products; hours on using primer plus pencil plus powder. Only to have brows that are never quite symmetrical, that are sisters but definitely not twins. Never again, I'm hooked for life. Don't be scared if brows are dark the first 5-7 days. I had a lash lift right before Christmas. At first, I thought it looked good because it was pretty dramatically curled but I noticed the lashes looked a little clumped together. I then went to put eyeliner on and realized my lashes were too curled to even get a good line. This was my second lash lift at Prettyology but this one was different from the first. As time went on I have experienced it getting worse. My lashes are naturally long and have been looking crimped and bent. They are unruly and some look straight and others are bent upward. I try combing them out but it seems impossible to get them to the way I want. I will never do this again, it is a waste of money and I even notice my lashes falling out much more than ever before. I would love to get the solution off my lashes. I would never do this again and encourage others to save their money and not get this treatment. I just hope I did not damage my natural lashes.I did call the studio on Saturday. I explained my problem and they asked me who I saw and informed me that the esthetician was no longer with them. Which doesn't make up for the fact that they were clearly not trained properly and should never have been able to perform this on me. A picture is a 1,000 words. Which I included above. The top was my eyebrows before I went to Prettyology, the bottom after they overworked my eyebrow into a little nothing. They are skinny, with no shape & uneven!! The tech just got to work without asking what I wanted before just jumping in. I had to stop to get assurance we were just cleaning them up & I wanted to keep my shape. I even said it felt like we were going too into the brow area. I had a great experience with Prettyology. Its a clean environment with friendly staff. If you need to reschedule they are pretty flexible. Also I love the way Gina did my brows! She was very kind and always asked how I was doing. The microblading is painful but everyone has different pain tolerances and what's good is they will numb it for you. HUGE shout out to Gina at Prettyology.  Had microblading done two days ago with her and I'm IMPRESSED. After years of over-plucking my brows (hello 90s!) and some martial arts blows to the brow area, I was left with patchy and mismatched brows. Filling them in was the bane of my morning makeup routine and I inevitably was left with two fuller but still obviously mismatched and oddly-shaped brows. After an initial consultation, I made an appointment. I was nervous, mostly because it's a semi-permanent FACIAL tattoo. If I didn't like the results, there'd be no going back for quite awhile. Gina was patient with my nervousness and REALLY listened to what I wanted, and added her professional opinions of what would work for my face and how brows can alter your look. Gina's attention to detail was key in getting exactly the ***perfect*** brows for my face. I got up front the chair and it looked like I had had a face lift! My friends were floored in the change in my before and afters. Prettyology provides detailed instructions on before and after care for microblading, and has a beautiful salon on Newbury Street. Gina is THE BEST! I had my initial consult with her then scheduled my microblading appointment with her for a few weeks later. Let me tell you, this gorgeous gal (with her own perfect skin and eyebrows) has the patience of a saint! First, she is a perfectionist and she will spend as long as it takes to make your brows look like twins (most artists settle for when the brows look like sisters). She absolutely nailed the shape; I felt like she read my mind. Second, my pain tolerance is not exactly high, and she was incredibly patient and reassuring although if I had been her, I probably would've kicked my whining/squirming butt out. Hahahaha Instead, she busted out in song a couple of times to distract me/make me laugh and even tried to find me a stress ball to squeeze (again, patience of a SAINT). Third, I'm only A few days out and I have already gotten a TON of compliments on the shape of my brows and have been fielding questions left and right, such as "she made it look like real hair - how is that possible?!" Fourth, she wants to answer your questions, but more importantly, she's honest about colors/shape/expectations; she doesn't try and sugarcoat anything, so you're informed and able to better communicate what you like/dislike. Overall she was just wonderful; I did a TON of research before booking with anyone and I'm so happy I stumbled upon Gina. Mixed emotions about this place, they didn't really look at my face shape at all even though I asked them too. They just jumped right in, I think the lady snipped my eyelashes a bit too. I'm going to try threading this week to see if they can help me look more feminine. I have naturally bushy masculine eyebrows and was hoping they would help me look more feminine. Soon as my Mother saw them she goes they look kinda dudeish...so yeah I definitely over tipped her but maybe cause I felt bad that they were so grown out. I had microblading with Shalyn. She's simply the best, explains the process every step of the way. I knew how good she was at shaping brows because I've been seeing her for tweezing for years. I always regretted when I "cheated" on her because the shape was never as good as what she can do. So.....I bit the bullet and went for microblading because I knew how amazing it would be to have a Shalyn-shaped, full brow every day. OK people, I disagree with the other reviewers who say there was "no pain." In my opinion, it definitely felt scratchy and you may cringe here and there during the process--I simply don't know how people went through this process without experiencing that. BUT, it's not unbearable--especially once you're numbed up a little, and Shalyn preps you for everything she's doing. I was talking and laughing with her the whole time, but I definitely felt it and was ready to get it overwith! That said, she did a beautiful job and it was all worth it. I feel more confident and beautiful. Note that I'm African American with sensitive, problem skin and after my consult she did a patch test with me. I highly recommend that if you're nervous like I was to put your mind at ease. Also nothing will make you less nervous than having Shalyn do this, because these procedures are second nature to her. The day I went to her she had EIGHT other microblading clients (!) and she's been doing this for many years. Try it out if you have always wanted to do this - I just wish I'd gone in sooner! 1st off let me start by saying I'm not one to "treat" myself to places like Prettyology. Yeah, I get my toes done once or twice a year but that about sums up my beauty outings. I’ve always been a fan of thick perfectly shaped eyebrows and just got a bonus so though what the hell, lets try Microblading. It was definitely a big step up from getting my toes done so as a result I did a lot of research of places here in in Boston and the surrounding area. I found a relief that they are ranked best in Boston for brow shaping since my lovely eyebrows are sisters not twins. The place is easy to get to by T but I walked right by it the first times so make sure you look out for their sign. They offer tea and have samples of beauty products that you can look at while you wait along with coloring books. The woman who did my brows was named Elicia, she was really down to earth and made me feel comfortable because if you think about it, it’s pretty dang pricy and it a huge investment since you can’t really hide your eyebrows. I have a scar on my eyebrow which I love, as a result I was worried that whoever I got would try and have me cover it because sadly, imperfections are frowned upon these days. She took her time to really shape my brows and made me feel like a badass for wanting to show my scar which really impressed me. Initial healing process was a cake walk, I just did my follow up appointment yesterday, I like this idea as you get to tell them what you like or don't like. She did such a great job the first time that she concentrated on darkening the color which I wanted and then just adding a little more framing. I’m confident the healing process will be just as smooth. Long story short - yes, it’s pricey but in my mind, I feel it’s well worth it. Us ladies invest so much time & money into businesses that are meant to makes us look and feel at our best - we should never leave feeling dissatisfied! I saw Jackie for a full lip pigmentation to give me a fuller, natural looking lip color. You leave the initial appointment with some swelling and what looks like red lipstick that begins to peel and fade after a couple of days, which was expected. I was told I wouldn't notice much difference, and the purpose of the follow-up appointment a few weeks later would be the real deal. Well, I left the first session with a lip line BELOW my natural line, giving me thinner looking lips, and was noticeably uneven - One side of my bow was higher than the other and dip was off-center. I communicated this to Jackie during the follow-up and she evened it out, but after swelling faded it was STILL below my natural line, defeating the whole purpose of the pigmentation. After another month or so I reached out to them because I was so unhappy with the results. My lip color looked THE SAME, with maybe a little lipliner tint, but who wants that? The only time any hint of color showed was after a hot shower. They emailed me -- "Send over pictures and we can take a look and see what we can do to help." I did so and they scheduled me to come in to fix what should have been done during the initial follow-up. When checking out, the woman at the desk began to bill me $180! At NO point during our email exchanges did they mention I would be charged for needing to FIX what should have been done to begin with. I did not ask for a thinner lip line and 0/blotchy color. Don't get me wrong, Jackie was very friendly, but they need to factor in more time for services likes these that require detail and perfection, rather than feeling rushed to take the next appointment. If I'm being honest , $750 + tip + "follow-up" is not an inexpensive service like getting nails done. It's an investment! Now... 3 sessions & 5 months later, I am left with what looks like faded lipstick after a night of heavy drinking and having eaten a messy dinner with my hands as utensils. Read Less

This place is a true gem! It was a little hard to find at first--a small doorway on Newbury Street with a standing sign outside and up an elevator ride--that led into a beautifully clean and modern salon. It was full of natural light and high end beauty products that I had never seen before. I've had my eyeliner and eyebrows done by Alexa and Elicia respectively. Julie, the owner, was also around to answer my questions and allay my fears. The staff was so friendly, which helped because I was nervous, and they are very skilled--neither of my treatments were painful at all! Both my eyeliner and eyebrows are still in their healing phase, but it's already shortened my daily makeup routine and now I no longer have to fear accidentally wiping off an eyebrow at the gym and feel much more confident about my appearance. What's great about the micropigmentation appointment at Prettyology is that they offer free follow-up appointments to make any adjustment after healing. I'm so happy with the way mine came out, I booked another appointment to change my eyeliner style from natural to more glamorous. I scheduled an appointment for April 19, 2017. However due to illness I called two days prior to cancel and reschedule ( I know for sure because I was watching the Boston Marathon on TV.) Since not hearing back from them for rescheduling I called again a few days later. I was told they did not receive my cancellation and there would be a fee. I insisted that I did call within the time frame needed and would like to speak to manager. I have never received a phone call and the full amount of $665. Was charged to my credit card. I'm disputing the charge and waiting for outcome. I would like to resolve this directly with Prettyology and called them. Awaiting areturn phone call from the manager. Will update results. Read Less

My wife went here for microblading. Her eyebrows turned out GREAT and the lady (Alexa) who did them is super friendly and very professional. So why only two stars? My issue is with the receptionist(s) who are rude and unfriendly. When we left, the receptionist asked me for a tip, and I said no. After I said no, the complete body-language changed, her face changed into a thunderstorm and she didn't even respond to my "Bye" anymore. This happened TWICE (dame story after the touch-up) and it made our whole experience unpleasant. In our view, we paid good money for the microblading (almost 700 dollars), whereas in other cities (Miami, Los Angeles) it is about half that amount in similar 5-star places, so I expect a good service and should not be 'obliged' to tip on top on that.The owner should replace these girls with friendly, professional, welcoming faces to this business.As for us, we won't be going back to Prettology. I have blonde hair and she even gets the extremely light hairs on my eyebrows which previous people have not! I am really into having great eyebrows, and I had been curious about microblading for a while, but when Carly Cardellino's piece in Cosmo came out I knew I had to do it. I did a lot of research to figure out where to go.  Prettyology seemed like best place in Boston.  I chose to go with Shalyn because of her reviews.  I was wicked scared as I went in for the procedure.  This is your face - if someone messes it up you are basically screwed.  Luckily, Shalyn is amazing.  She is the nicest person and explained everything to me.  She showed me how my brows would look before doing anything. I loved Shalyn and highly recommend her.  Once the brows were done (took about an hour), I was shocked by how dark they were, even though Shalyn had told me that would happen. It was just a sight to see such dark eyebrows. I chose to stay inside and wear big sunglasses when out for the first couple days.  But by day 3, the color had gone down to the right color.  I love my new brows! I had Microblading done here, assuming the reason was more expensive than everywhere else because it would be the best and I was okay with that. But I was so wrong. $650, 2 appointments later and my brows aren't finished. My first appointment my brows were trimmed so small they looked like pencil lines. They were spotted and just a mess. I asked to see someone different for my 2nd appt and it was as if I was asking for the world, making me feel as if I was doing something wrong. $650 is a lot of money not to be satisfied, and it's my FACE. My 2nd appt was much better but it's as if it was my first. Both appts I was told we "were running short on time" and I felt rushed and unimportant. The appt is a 1.5 hours, but they took me late. Right now I have very spotted and uneven brows, although better than my first, I wouldn't pay $25 for what I have going on right now. I am currently looking for a new place to go that will actually finish what they started, and unfortunately it's going to cost me. Please think before you get your Microblading done here. I have come in twice for a brow tweeze and a tint with Wendy and both times she has done an insanely good job. I often have trouble with eyebrow shaping at other places since I have one thin/normal eyebrow and one Sasquatch eyebrow. At most places I come out with two different eyebrow shapes or one really surprised eyebrow and one flat eyebrow. I even adopted bangs to hide them. Anyway, I came to prettyology based on reviews and decided that if anyone is going to work a miracle, it's them.The boutique is on the top floor of the building on newbury street and is filled with large, beautiful windows overlooking newbury. The waiting room is in the middle of the salon and you can overhear most other people's appointments which goes both ways for me. Wendy is very nice and bubbly and definitely makes you feel like you're the only person there. Both times she has first tinted my eyebrows and then proceeded to start tweezing. I'm not a total fan of the plucking the hairs one by one, but it always looks amazing so I can't complain too much. After the tweeze and tint she always fills them in with makeup and she taught me how to do it on my own, which I think is a nice little extra that they don't tell you about. Last time I went I told her I was going out and she did a dramatic brow and adjusted my eyeshadow just because she thought it would look better a certain way. I have loved the outcome both times, and for once my eyebrows match! I have actually started to get tons of compliments on my eyebrows over the last month and a half that I've been going to prettyology! The brow tint and tweeze is a bit pricey, landing at ~$65 with a 20% tip included, but I actually think it's sort of worth it and I've gotten what I paid for. Read Less

After many years of wanting to get permanent eyebrows, today I finally did so. Everything was done by Shalyn and she did an outstanding job. She made sure I understood the procedure before we actually started and she paid attention to even the slightest of details. Currently have alopecia. Had this condition for 3 years. It's been a tough journey dealing with this. I tried everything you name it. I even tried taking a break from products. Nothing seem to be working that was until I found these professionals. I went in for my first appointment a few weeks ago. Jackie really did an amazing job. That day was a great day for me. Know it sounds a bit silly but I celebrated. Haven't felt so happy in a very long time. I recently just had my first follow up appointment. It went great and very smooth.
