I am looking for a tattoo artist that does realism (turning a picture into a tattoo). My dog recently died and I came to Yelp to find a tattoo shop that could make me a tattoo of my dog. Their webpage states "You must come into the shop to make an appointment" so I emailed them to see if they had an artist that does this type of work. They answered me "Hey Ian stop by anytime to discuss your tattoo and we can take it from there." I took an Uber from Chelsea to there just to walk in the door and be told that they don't do that kind of work. Had a great experience for my first tattoo! I walked in with a friend late afternoon on a Saturday to see if they could take us for two small pieces. The woman at the desk and two artists working at the time discussed if it would be feasible to fit us in, and I really appreciated that they took the time to think about what would be best for us and the customers they were already serving. They looked at our artwork and considered the pieces they already had to complete and decided it would be best not to guarantee that they could fit us in the same day, which was honest and thoughtful. We made appointments to come back the next day. The vibe from all of the staff, the music, everything about the shop was very relaxed and welcoming. I had gone to a couple of other shops in the area and sometimes felt dismissed or unimportant because the piece I was looking to get was small and I'm clearly inexperienced as a tattoo recipient. Victor, my artist, was laid back but also supportive and patient as I asked him to resize and reposition the stencil a few times. I had been picturing a smaller version of the artwork and he worked with me within the limits of what would look best in his professional opinion, and I really appreciated his honesty and explanation of why going too small would result in a poorer quality tattoo. In the end it was most important to me to retain the clarity of the lines and he was exactly right in his suggestion, but he never made me feel stupid or wrong for asking a bunch of questions. We had a nice conversation during the process and he kept checking in to see how I was doing, and clearly explained all of the aftercare instructions. I was definitely nervous and excited to get this done and was a little wary when I wasn't able to get it done at a place I had researched more thoroughly ahead of time, but I felt very at ease throughout all of my experiences here. I was referred to artist Nick by a friend a year back and loved the outcome of the traditional style rose he drew up for me. Just recently I went back for another tattoo. It was a sketch I found in Frida Kahlo's diary and I asked for the drawing to be as similar as the sketch as possible.. and his drawing was phenomenal and essentially exact. I am beyond thrilled with the line work and at this point he's probably the only artist i'd trust in the city to tattoo me. Awesome dude and excellent work. Go see him. Read Less
