My fiance and I have traveled to Salem every summer for the last six years. Every year, I kept meaning to get tattooed at one of the shops, but I never seemed to actually get there. Then, I went through a particularly rough "dark night of the soul" from May 2017 through just about the Spring Equinox of this year. Three weeks before my fiance and I were going to drive up to Salem from Staten Island, I was hit with inspiration/the tattoo bug and contacted Good Mojo to set up an appointment. The woman I spoke to on the phone (I believe her name is Lauren) was incredibly sweet and very helpful. Inkwitch Lisa was the artist who did my piece, and she was also incredibly sweet, very knowledgeable and talented, and (if you couldn't tell by the name) very much a Witch. ;) The entire studio is absolutely gorgeous--I can't speak to the other artists' rooms (I suspect they're very similar), but Inkwitch Lisa's room was this Pagan tattoo addict's haven. Due to the deeply personal and spiritual significance of the design, it was very important to me that the artist who did this piece be a Witch (or some denomination of Pagan, or at least Pagan friendly) and a woman. I needed to be able to explain the actual meaning behind the tattoo and not only feel comfortable sharing the information, but know that the person sitting on the other side of the tattoo gun truly Got It. Inkwitch Lisa definitely Got It (she referred to my tattoo at one point as a medicinal still-life, which pretty much sums it up perfectly). I wish I could give you more stars! From the ease of booking my appointment, to the final product, this place is fantastic! The girl at the front desk was so nice, had a smile the whole time & was very personable. This shop is very clean, the art work is amazing, & the people I met were all friendly. The after care package was a nice touch too. It makes it so easy to take care of the tattoo with these directions & pics of the products to buy so there’s no mistake. But most of all, I got to hang out with a childhood friend I haven’t seen in over 20 yrs. This tattoo was special to me. I live in New Jersey, but had so many of my MA friends recommend Good Mojo to me that when it came to getting my first tattoo, I felt like it was the obvious choice. I had my tattoo done by Carly in September, and it was a wonderful experience. I came in for my consultation with an idea and some rough sketches, and Carly immediately suggested an addition that brought the whole piece together in a way I hadn't even imagined. Throughout the process of actually getting the tatto...o, she was the perfect balance of professional and personal, keeping me laughing through the painful bits while ensuring that I was entirely comfortable with the whole process. Great experience with mojo! Worked with Jason on the starts of a full sleeve. He was very attentive to my ideas and willing to work with me in all aspects. He wasn’t afraid to let me know if something would work not or if it was a good or bad idea. He wants you to have an incredible tattoo! I absolutely like the vibe of the place.  I was looking for a shop, but so many were just too much and I didn't feel comfortable.  My husband and I walked into Good Mojo in early June.  I knew what I wanted - very small.  The stars aligned and they were able to take me as a walk in.  Seriously, quick 5 minute tattoo.  Tara was great.  I like the shop has a free touch up with in the first 3 months.  I will be going back the end of August for a light touch up.  But over all, the shop has a nice comfy vibe.  It's pleasant, clean, not over the top in your face.  As a woman in her later 30's I felt so comfortable being there!  I will definitely recommend this shop! My experience with Good Mojo Tattoo and artist Carly Menasco was nothing short of magical! In February I was getting ready to move out of the North Shore area and decided I wanted to snag a tattoo before I headed out. When I emailed the parlor to set up a consultation with Carly they got back to me in minutes and I was set up in no time. The tattoo was is the largest I have to date and also the first one I had ever collaborated with an artist to create. I was nervous walking ...in but the receptionist made me feel right at ease and once I met Carly I new it was a perfect fit. I am not an artist so I wasn't sure how to approach talking about what I wanted but Carly made it easy. She was professional, fun, full of great ideas, and completely transparent about what it was going to cost me which I really appreciated. Over the course of two appointments Carly managed to fulfill all my hopes with this tattoo and even kept me laughing and chatting through the whole thing. The staff in the shop were very attentive, popping in to say hey and checking to make sure everything was running smoothly. I've written multiple reviews of this place, but I've also had multiple tattoos here, so I think that's okay!  I saw a piece done by Mulysa Mayhem on someone in So. Boston about 13 years ago, and begged the woman to tell me who did her sleeve.  I wasn't ready at the time, but I knew I wanted that artist to do something for me.  Ten years later, I contacted Good Mojo and set up the first of many appts. with Mulysa.  We've been working on a sleeve now for 2 years and I could not be more pleased.  Jackie (front office staff) is lovely and always entertaining and helpful.  The environment is welcoming, warm and eclectic.  So much to look at!  As an established client, I find GM to be very flexible and accommodating.  Parking has never been a problem.  Mulysa's artistic abilities are outstanding, which is why I was so impressed initially.  I have a fine arts background and she is spot on.  Highly skilled.  Creative. Passionate.  Amazing attention to detail.  Mulysa and all the folks at GM make me and my husband feel like family when we arrive and I hope they all know we adore them just as much.  Anyone who says otherwise is living in their own little dream world and has little knowledge of ink culture.  Client communication is just as important as artist skill. I love going here. I'm not accustomed to the North Shore, these folks know how to make you feel at home. Chill vibes, good music, fun peeps, you really can't ask for much more other than an awesome shop. And they've got that too. Check times infinityMy artist was Jason, and I really wanted him to do my tattoos because I knew he did amazing line work and shading. I came to him with a design I really loved and he was super friendly and open about it--not dismissive or rude at all. Jason is really patient, down to earth, a real talkative guy--which was perfect for me since this was my first tattoo and I was a bit nervous. The first session took about 40 minutes and the second, a little under two hours. The way Jason did it, my tattoo didn't hurt at all, and it goes down the middle of my spine. When it was done, I fell in love with it. I'm going back in January for a touch up and some new details! If you want to get really detailed line work in, or horror-themed stuff (that's his favorite genre), you should definitely definitely ask for Jason. Be careful, I feel like I was robbed!  I had a consultation with Inkwitch Lisa to do a cover up on my lower back.  At the initial appointment she was very friendly and said it would cost between $400-$500 and that she'd need a $100 deposit to get going on the drawing.  A week later I came back to see what she drew up (it looked like something i drew myself) and she was rude and dismissive.  I didn't want that tattoo and they just said too bad we're keeping your $100 for the time she spent on the drawing.  I'd never send anyone there... ever! I had been itching to get tattooed by Mulysa Mayhem for some time, because., well, just look at her work - it speaks for itself.  The quality is outstanding and the details in each and every piece are immaculate.  Although I had originally chosen another artist to do my phoenix, it was important to me that whoever did it understood the personal and symbolic significance behind the tattoo.  Thanks to the universe, Mulysa and I randomly crossed paths while out and about one day, and she agreed to do the tattoo of my dreams - a phoenix rising out of fire and ashes.  With Mulysa being extremely knowledgable of anything/everything magickal, no one is better suited for this project than her.    Less than a month later, I was in the shop for a consult (which Mulysa came in on her day off to meet me), then shortly after, given a list of scheduled appointments to get the process going!  Before I knew it, I was at my first appointment for the outline, and so began the birth of my phoenix.I'm on my 5th session of the piece, and it exceeds my expectations.  I only showed Mulysa a few pictures of reference material and answered a few of her questions regarding what I wanted, and the phoenix is beyond my wildest dreams.  It's crazy how she was able to take my vision and make it a perfect masterpiece to adorn my body.  The placement on my body flatters my curves, and the red, yellow, and orange pigments of ink compliment the white of my pale skin perfectly.   Without Mulysa's talent, dedication, and undying commitment to making this tattoo the best possible, it wouldn't be what it is.  Having the phoenix on me for life empowers me, and brings out an inner strength I didn't know existed in me prior.  Getting work done at Good Mojo really is like having a spell casted in your skin!I have a ways to go with my phoenix, but I'm extremely happy with the progress of it so far.  While I can't wait 'till it's finished, I'm enjoying each and every one of my sessions with Mulysa, because they are always full of good laughs, meaningful conversation, and all around awesomeness!  I will be going back to Mulysa for other work, as well as Inkwitch Lisa, Tara, and Carly.  You won't find a better tattoo shop that has both top-notch work and amazing people anywhere else. I called last week to get a consultation appointment to get my first tattoo. As soon as the front desk person answered the phone I was sold as a customer of Good Mojo! Friendly front desk person (I didn't get their name) who was very informative and sounded as if she had a smile on her face while talking to me on the phone. Made me feel less nervous about my first tattoo and gave me a positive feeling that this was the studio for me.Yesterday, I had my first tattoo done by Lisa who just made the experience unforgettable and less stressful. I was kind of nervous to begin with and she made me feel relaxed by talking to me, making jokes, being friendly and most of all, she was patient with me. I had to take a break because I was feeling light headed and she put cold wet towels on my forehead, gave me a cup of water and just allowed me to take my time until I felt well enough to continue. This is a great shop with very talented artists.  They take the experience to a deeper level. More of a - magic in the ink and forever change your DNA experience; then pick something off the wall and slap it on, which I am sure they would do just as well. Charon is very talented. I never received so many wonderful compliments for my older tattoos; as i have with my newer ones. Clean lines, deep color, solid technical skills. I remember when I was planning my first tattoo, it was critical that I found a tattoo shop with kind-souled humans who make me feel comfortable and not intimidated. Good Mojo is just that! Best tattoo shop ever. Best artists I've ever seen, great atmosphere, best tattoo quality, reasonable prices. My fiance and I both love it and would never dream of going to another shop. The artists here are honest and if they don't think they'd do as a fantastic job as someone else they'll pass you off to them which I think shows great character! We started going because I saw Tara's work online and wow she is amazing. She's very friendly and an amazing artist! I haven't gotten anything from her yet, just my fiance but I've sat in on all sessions and the work she does just blows me away. Recently I mentioned wanting to get something very small from her and she said she'd feel bad charging me the shop minimum for something that would take her 5 minutes so she recommended Carly the apprentice to me. Carly was also super sweet and managed to get exactly what I had in my head onto paper with me sending her a bunch of pictures that didn't really quite look like what I had in mind. Best shop I've ever been to (and now my only shop). I started working with Mulysa a couple years ago and plan to continue until I'm covered. The shop is very clean and professional. Very interesting environment to check out if you're waiting too. There's of a New Orleans/museum of oddities thing going on. The whole crew is very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. I recently had my FIRST tattoo finished at Good Mojo. I decided with so much canvas I'd better go big or go home. I'm really happy I did! The whole experience was great! You know you've found the right artist when they get as squealy and bouncy about your tattoo ideas as you do. Mulysa was well worth the wait list.The waiting room had this great parlor feel, and I'm a fan of the lack of flash art hanging on the walls you normally see. Instead, there's plush Victorian furniture with art deco antiques and a great ritual/wiccan feel. The friend who came with me commented that this is how she wished other Salem area tattoo shops felt.The rest of the staff I met were great too. Kelly at the front desk was fabulous and seems to have an undying love for peanutbutter cups. Tara popped in and told me all about the props and pitfalls of white ink and color in general.
