Wonderful shop and great experience! Everyone here is so polite and helpful. I love that they are not your typical tattoo shop with the same ole generic tattoo pictures hanging on the walls for you to choose from. I came in here after going to one of those tattoo shops with a bunch of tattoo books and pictures on the wall. When I approached one of the workers and described my vision for what I wanted done his response was " You can pick something you like off of the wall over there". That was a big no for me. I saw shop 53 online and I figured I would check it out. I immediately loved the vibe. I was able to look at the artists portfolios and decide which artist I wanted to talk with about the work I wanted done. I ended up choosing Mona and I have had two sessions with her so far. Walked up and met Mona, one of the artist, out front. She was very inviting and took us into the shop right away. She introduced my daughter and I to Lena, the tattoo artist that would be doing my daughter's first tattoo. She was so sweet and willing to do her tattoo before the shop even opened. The shop environment was so nice in comparison to other tattoo shops that are intense and kind of intimidating. These ladies are true artists with not only tattoos, but paintings, drawings and other pieces they made. They also had T-shirts w original designs for sale. The fabric was so nice my daughter and I each bought one. The process of agreeing to a design, doing paperwork and starting the tattoo was seamless and quick. I had a consultation with Mona last weekend, I explained to her what I was looking to have done, where and size. She sketched up exactly what I had pictured in my mind and delivered! This shop is a bit of a drive from DC but so worth the trip! I got my previous tattoo with Cas at the last shop she worked at and knew I wanted my next tattoo from her again. So I emailed her for a consultation appointment along with the idea of what I wanted. There was plenty of parking and the shop was easy to find (using google maps of course). I was greeted immediately upon walking in and offered water while Cas finished up with her previous client. There's a couple nice chairs to wait in, but there's also a very cool art gallery to check out while you wait. The entire space was very bright, open, clean, and inspiring to be in. You know those good vibes instagrammers are always hashtagging about? This place has them.During my consultation I got to see some sketching happen right before my eyes and was then able to secure the date for my tattoo with a deposit. I signed the standard paperwork and was given the aftercare instructions ahead of time. Two weeks later I was back in the shop and getting my tattoo. Cas and the entire team made me feel comfortable and safe during the process. This was my 6th tattoo and my best experience! (You really can't beat lying down listening to your favorite music seeing the idea you've wanted for a year come to life and be permanently on your skin!)I highly recommend this shop for tattoos and for cool art! Shop 53 isn't your "normal" tattoo shop. Its very laid back, super clean, and non-threatening. There is a very mellow vibe. There is not scream-mo music in the background and the staff is very friendly. My tattoo artist is Kim.....she is one of the most amazing people you will ever meet.
