Really enjoyed this shop and the staff that worked there. I knew I wanted a tattoo for a while and decided to check out Key City after visiting a couple other shops in Frederick. As soon as I walked in I was welcomed and received helpful insight towards what I was actually looking for, as I was completely new to the experience and needed some help. They didn't "coddle" me as a first-timer, but also didn't act like it was a chore to explain the process and what it was that I was really looking for (which had been my experience at some other shops). I pulled up a picture and Matt Torres drew it up in a heartbeat, threw it on my arm, and I couldn't be happier with the result.I wasn't sure what my experience would be like as a walk-in first-time customer, but I can tell you my experience far exceeded my expectations. Lesson learned. I paid way too much for a poorly done tattoo that was rushed through. The whole thing was done in 10-15 minutes, does not resemble the stencil, and I definitely believe I was taken advantage of as far as pricing goes. I can spit out a number of adjectives that can describe this place; the bottom line about this shop is inexplainable. Every artist is talented in their own right (I reccomend Nate,) the shop is well-beyond clean, they make you feel at home and they treat you like family. From a marketing standpoint, Key City is doing everything that tattoo shops in Frederick County aren’t: Charity fundraisers, scavenger hunts, raffles, an annual convention, walk-ins nearly every week and guest artists every month, if not more. The atmosphere is Artistic, clean and quite interesting. John is an amazing artist and the other artists that I seen when I was there seem to have done a wonderful job with their clients as well. It’s so cool to have such an awesome shop like this in town...they do such great work and the shop is very comfy and tons of cool flash on the wall. I got my first tattoo at Key City last week and it was such a wonderful experience. I cannot say enough positive things. The staff is so friendly and the shop is impeccably clean. Gary tattooed me and he was absolutely incredible and so talented. Since it was my first tattoo, I was a bit nervous, and he just made me feel so at ease and comfortable. I cannot begin to express how much I love this shop! I have gotten 8 pieces done by several of their artists! And absolutely love each one !! There are times that I just want to go in the shop and sit, these guys are just that friendly and down to earth! You can't go wrong with any artist, there are 2 artists I haven't gotten work done by but I have every intention on getting something done by them! I kid you not, EVERY guy is amazing! Clean shop! Most important to me when I first walk into a studio. Walk-ins are welcome! Front desk guys were very welcoming. No awkwardness. Thank goodness. I hate walking into a business and no one greets you. All the tattoo artist were in at the time of my visit. Don't bring your kids if they can't stay quiet in the waiting room.
