I walked into One Shot today after several recommendations from friends... I called up and spoke to Spanky and within 5 minutes I immediately decided this was where I wanted to get my tattoo done. Spanky was so cool and talked to me while Matt drew up my tattoo. Once I laid down and got started, Matt made me feel so comfortable, telling me stories about his experience with sea turtles, and a Swedish group he's a fan of. After that, my friend got a piercing from Spanky, and I ...was blown away by how accurate and focused he was! It was a clean, quick piercing by the absolute best piercer I've ever met! My friend had an issue with one of her old piercings(done by someone else) and he was more than happy to help her by giving her some tips and at home care adivce to fix her situation. I love this place. I got my belly piercing 2 time before"wasn't from this place", it was hurt while I get it done"I even cry".. And than in year or two my body start reject it.. I've always felt that tattoos are art and expressions of creativity. I personally do not have any tattoos (yet) but my son had his heart set on a particular design that was very meaningful to him; he worked hard to achieve the goals he set for himself so he could get his tattoo in the first place. We were directed to One Shot by a friend...and I am so glad we listened!Grady was phenomenal - he truly was. He took my son's chosen design and made it come to life. To my son, his tattoo represents his decision to become grounded and sail his ship rather than allow it to sink - how very introspective! Grady talked to my 18-year-old matter of factly and honestly and prepared him for his first inking - he impressed him so much that he already wants him to do his second design (and he's willing to wait until he is able to come back to Baltimore from Wisconsin in the spring or summer).Excellent communication was exchanged with Grady and Spanky and us every step of the way from our initial inquiry to the appointment, and we could not be more pleased with the beautiful work that my son now has for life. I went to "one shot" to have a tatoo that was going to take some creativity and skill.. Upon arriving at "one shot" the attitude of the person who runs the counter was par for the course.. His sloppy lack luster demeanor matched the selection of out dated cartoonish 70's tatoos and portfolios that were there. However, if you like old blurred sloppy looking work, this is your place. I got a bunch of work done by Matt N. (MGN) including the back of my neck, behind my ear, and a quarter sleeve. I'm happy with pretty much all of it. I gave him a design for my sleeve which I wanted to copy basically, but he didn't really pay attention to it, and just made his own rose pattern for me. Which came out nice, I get a lot of compliments, but years later I wish I wouldn't have gone with it. In the future I want to get it updated with more depth, colors and add more flowers. I'm not the biggest fan of traditional tatts and this is what it looks like. The other Matt did lyrics on my back. They look good except for one letter which confuses people sometimes as you can't read "tune" very well. Meh. I will probably get something done to it one day. The shop owner Eric is an amazing artist specializing in "traditional" style tattoos. If that's your thing, definitely check him out. He's done a lot of work on people I know which all looks great.
