This is my go-to place for tattoos and piercings. About a year ago I got my triple forward helix done by Jax, who did a great job, especially with so many fresh piercings in such a small space. Jax also works in the Prince Frederick location, if that is closer to you. Afterwards, Melissa assisted me with several jewelry changes after having to put in spacers for my job. Both of them were very friendly and handled my piercings quickly and skillfully. Prices were very reasonable. Next, I set up an appointment with Will to get a hand-sized tattoo on my stomach. I was able to look through a large book of his previous work, as well as the work of other artists, to pick an artist whose style best fit my idea for the tattoo. I brought Will a photo of a tattoo and he redrew it for me so that I'd have my own unique piece! He did a great job on the tattoo, and was very engaging for the several hours I was on the table, which made the time go by much faster. I had a great experience working with Will, as have my friends who have also been tattooed by him. Again, the prices were reasonable and discussed upfront. Tattoo is now healed and is as vibrant and clear as ever. The shop itself is clean, organized, and has lots of displays for their jewelry and tattoo samples. There are books from the artists all over to look at as well as sample sheets, all framed and mounted for guests to flip through. I have wanted a tattoo for quite sometime. I had a couple of little ones and then decided to get a bigger piece on my arm. I went back and forth for years and finally went to look online for an artist. We did have a friend recommend Pat as well. I went in and met with Pat he gave his opinion on how to incorporate his art with my idea. The session was great, chill atmosphere, good conversation, clean and comfortable. Melissa is amazing. I went last week to get a few piercings, but to my surprise, the places I wanted reported had never closed. Clean and polite, That's where I stop. I call to ask the criteria for getting a simple nose piercing for my daughter on her birthday. Then I meet them to a t. They change the age requirement after we arrive leaving me to drive over an hour home with an upset daughter on her birthday. Why would they care if she's been looking forward to it for three months? An "I'm sorry for your inconvenience, Sir" solves their issues.  I won't be back. I've gotten ink there before too, that's why I drove all the way there. Came here to get a nose piercing changed out after a botched job from Chronic Ink in Mechanicsville. I've been to this tattoo shop before in the past and have always been very impressed by the work done here. The young lady who checked me out was amazing. I wish I knew her name so I could give her praise on here. Shes the tallish blond. Well she took care of my issue immediately. My pain was minimal even though infection had set in from the crappy job previously mentioned. My nose stud is in and the pain is gone. I went to Red Octopus Tattoo after taking the time to plan my tattoos over the course of several years.  As with any tattoo, I took the time to be very selective in who I chose to approach to design and accomplish my tattoo.  After looking at the art for several artists in the area, I decided to talk to Turtle.  Immediately, he made me feel welcome and had an extremely positive attitude.  Turtle was extremely professional and took the time to listen to exactly what my requirements were.  He is an accomplished tattoo artist in his own right and his experience shows in his work.  For the level of realism I wanted, there is not anybody else within the state I would trust with the work he did on the three tattoos he designed and tattooed on me.In addition, my experience in the shop was extremely positive.  The whole shop crew focuses on cleanliness and sanitation.  The waiting room was never cluttered with people other than customers waiting on on tattoo appointments or piercings.  By what I saw, the wait was never extensive and the employees were very attentive and had great customer service etiquette. A friend recommended me to ROT for a nose piercing. I got my nose pierced here yesterday and I love it!!! I walked in and out in maybe 15 minutes total, only waiting about 5-10 minutes to begin. Jax was amazing, she made sure I was okay with everything throughout the entire process, she made things quick and easy, assured me about the pain. I had to do this review immediately when I got home today. It's my birthday weekend and I decided to get my navel pierced. I had my navel previously pierced, but I found out I was pregnant with my oldest son, years ago, so the navel piercing only stayed in for about 3 months. I walked in today to a beautiful immaculately clean shop. I had thoughts in my head that getting my navel pierced was going to hurt tremendously because I couldn't recalI how much it was going to hurt because it was so long ago. I filled out the paperwork, and walked into the back room to start the process. The piercing expert today that I met was Melissa. She was full of life and energy and had a big smile that made me feel so welcome and calm. I explained to her that I was a bit nervous about how much pain I was thinking this piercing was going to cause me. But Melissa assured me that I need not worry about anything, and she was so right. She put the markings on my navel with the marker and asked me if I like the spot she was going to pierce. Now it was time to start the piercing. Melissa told me to take a deep breathe in and then exhale, and once I began to exhale she pierced my navel. She was so gentle and it happened so quickly, that I truly felt nothing but a quick push & a slight pinch & I was done.  I opened my eyes and I had a beautiful teal barbel in my navel. No tears shed at all. I couldn't be more happy. Once my navel was pierced, I was so elated that I decided to right then get my left tragus pierced too, that's how much of an expert Melissa is. Melissa marked my tragus, I confirmed that I liked the spot and now it was time to do the piercing.  She told me to inhale and then exhale, and poof the piercing was done. No pain whatsoever. Melissa is a true piercing master. I will never go anywhere else to get a piercing. Shop is clean, warm, and welcoming. Always crowded..which is def a good sign! Front desk staff are awesome and very helpful in answering any questions. Got my nose pierced by Melissa and the process was clean, quick, and minimal pain. She didn't lie about that 1 tear. She gave me instructions for home maintenance and so far so good. My piercing did start to sink into my piercing hole but I called right away and was advised to come in for a larger post to be placed. Was s little worried, but Melissa assured me all is well. It's not infected and this sometimes happens. A quick jewelry change and I was out the door. This was my 1st time at the Crofton location and def will not be my last!! I walked in on a Sunday afternoon with my 11-year-old so we could both get our ears pierced. They were busy, but the waiting room is large and comfortable, with hot and color drinks available. I've been going to mystic piercing for years, had all my piercings done there. I got my second lobe holes pierced months back with barbells and got a pair for barbells for my first holes to match. They were all screwed on so incredibly tight, somehow I was able to get 3 undone myself, but the last one would not budge, I tried gloves, pliers, my own shirt, paper towels... Nothing worked. So I went back to mystics not once but twice now to request them to loosen it. They wanted to charge me $5 for a "change". So I walked out. A friend recommended red octopus recently so I walked in there and Melissa kindly took me back immediately and unscrewed it for me. That was a pleasant first experience and it won't be the last. I was pierced for my second nose ring by jax on may 11. i have 10 other body piercings, all which have had no trouble healing and were all really low maintenance on cleaning, including my first nose ring. This one however has given me endless trouble. I've been cleaning it twice a day with a sea salt solution for nine months now to no avail. It will randomly get a keloid every few weeks. Will not heal properly, even though I waited four months to even attempt to change the jewelry. Now I am not able to even do that because of the immense pain it causes me to even wiggle the jewelry i was pierced with. After nine months of my following the after care instructions to a T, this is unacceptable. Hopefully I can have another piercer attempt it in a different location as there's no point in keeping this one if it's going to cause a disgusting bump on my nose every couple weeks. Read Less

This included rehabbing a poorly done piece by another artist, completing a cover up that the previous artist failed to achieve and adding a bunch of new pieces to tie everything together nicely. Very clean shop, staff was friendly and artists were patient and helpful as well. Pricing was reasonable. They have multiple artists who specialize in different things but all of them are very talented based on the looks of some of the art on the walls as well as their look books. Of course Instagram is everything nowadays so before coming in I checked out the artist profiles on Instagram to make sure that their styles were flexible which they were.  I went in to a get a small 1.5 inch line work piece and it ran me about $80. It was super quick I think it took longer for me to actually choose where I wanted it than the actual tattoo lol. I have multiple and I always switch it up at the last minute! Yesterday my sister and I went to get our first tattoos. First I'll say that the shop was beautiful! Everyone was very friendly with us which helped because we were ridiculously nervous lol... Went in on a busy Saturday a few weeks ago after leaving another shop because I wasn't happy with what they were offering. I had absolutely no issue waiting around for over an hour for someone to free up because I know this place does amazing work and because I was a walk in I knew I wasn't going to be seen the moment I walked in. Aaron did a small piece on the back of my leg and it turned out better than I thought it would. If I ever end up turning it into something more I will def be back. I also had a few friends with me who got tattoos done as well and theirs turned out just as good. This was my second tattoo done here and I think I have found my new shop. The waiting area is super comfortable, the quality of work is outstanding, the prices are great, and the staff is great. I couldn't be happier with this place. Nicky worked on a cover up of a cover up for me. I have been looking at this hideous ink spot that looked like a jailhouse tattoo for 20 years. I was so anxious because I knew it was going to be big, and the vision I had was almost impossible. Everyplace I went before him either didn't want to touch it, gave me the same option..cover it with a rose or something, or told me what I wanted couldn't be done. He was willing to give it a shot, and LITERALLY KILLED it!!!!! He was patient with me, and free~handed part of it giving the tattoo it's own unique one of a kind PERFECTION with his artistic expertise!!! He is AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!!!! Red Octopus needs no introduction. And it probably doesn't even really need my review. Before there was even a yelp, word spread around the DMV that this is THE place for tattoos and piercings. They can add my husband and I to their list of happy customers.If you're anything like me, planning a tattoo can take years. My husband and I have wanted to get each other's names tattooed for at least 3 years now. We always said we'd wait until we were married at least. So we walked into Red Octopus one Sunday a few months short of our 1st year anniversary. Names are not uncommon, I know this. But as I sat looking at the popular tattoo fonts in the waiting room area, I became increasingly uneasy. The tattoo fonts were extremely wack. Nothing fit me. Nothing fit us. So, I strongly considered walking out. Leave it to my husband's tattoo artist (Tommy or Tony, I think) to save the day. He asked what we were looking for and what we liked. We showed him a couple of pictures and where we wanted them. "Let me free hand something for you real quick and see if you like it". When he returned, we were both floored with his design and sat there grinning from ear to ear. This was it! It's like the universe was saying, "the time is now!"Tommy/Tony set it up so that we could both get tattooed at the same time. Gene didn't have a client and offered to do mine. This was a great idea in theory as it would save us time. But I simply could not bare the pain without hubby holding my hand. So hubby went first and then it was my turn. Both artists were professional, friendly, and worked quickly. Tommy/Tony made a few jokes about us needing cover-ups. Hubby's artists said they do quite a bit of cover ups regularly. Which sort of amazed me. But he also went on to say we're the first married couple he's seen so I guess that makes sense. My artist, Gene, was just as friendly and tried to make me feel relaxed--which I particularly appreciated because of where I was getting the tattoo. Let's just say I haven't really had another man touch me there since my husband so the professionalism was much appreciated lol. He gave advice, suggestions, and schooled us a bit on tattooes. An all around thorough and enthusiastic artist. I would definitely check him out again at the Landover location.Besides the amazing artistry and professionalism of the employees, the facilities and environment promote safe, clean, and healthy tattooing. My experience with Red Octopus was awesome! My boyfriend and I both got tattoos here. My boyfriend first got a tattoo by Niki which was super quick and beautiful. Got my nose pierced here about 4 months ago and I'm loving it! It was a female that pierced me... Forgot her name but she was mad cool! I walked in without an appt and asked a few questions about the process. Everyone in the shop was very pleasant to speak to and be around. Pat was my artist and he was very professional and as gentle as a tattoo artist can be (in my opinion). Tattoos are painful! But he did a great job and he finished in less than 3 minutes. The price was reasonable and overall I had a great experience. Not sure I will be getting another tattoo, but if I do I would see Pat. Read Less
