Where do I begin. As a college student, I'm all for risks and fun. So the Tattooery seemed like a good idea on a Sunday morning. I walk in and BOOM it was crowded. I walked up to the woman working at the counter, who was drinking a pink Starbucks drink. She showed me some of the earrings they had left and they were all bullsh*t. I want a nice stud not a half moon on my cartilage. They additionally don't take cards i think. I forgot. But they gave this girl a hard time for her form of payment and whatever. Great Atmosphere. Our artist, Sean Kreitlow, was kick ass. We got matching sister tattoos and they all ended up matching but looking slightly different, which is pretty perfect. I would 100% go back for more ink. We were walk-ins and only had to wait about an hour and a half. So much in the area to get you entertained while you wait though, so time flew by. It was apparently UMD homecoming weekend, but the shop seemed like a surprisingly quiet, classic metal oasis above a drunken sea of loud madness below. Read Less

I got my tragus pierced here and Chris is amazing! I like that this place only takes walk-in piercings. Chris has done both my nostril and my daith now and I could not be more pleased and impressed! The shop is very clean, and Chris is very careful about not only using clean instruments, but also only using high quality implant-grade jewelry. I am very sensitive to pain, and Chris always makes sure he does what is not only the quickest, but the most comfortable way to handle a piercing. I got all of my piercings in this establishment and every session was smooth and professional. The piercer, Chris is very knowledgeable and was able to answer every question I had. The piercing area was always maintained and sanitary every time I got pierced. I came in for a"risque" piercing that I was scared of getting and he was patient and waited until I ready. Came to this establishment yesterday for a nose piercing and was lucky enough to have Chris as my technician! He was awesome! He was very knowledgeable in my skin condition concerns that I had and was patient with my questions. He was very thorough in the process and made sure to tell me what he was going to do next and always asked if I was ready before doing it.I'm not sure if it was the fact that Chris is good at what he does or what but for some reason the piercing didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would! Oh don't get me wrong, it hurt! But not as bad as I thought! I've gotten both a piercing and a tattoo at this shop. For a piercing, I got my septum done in the summer by Chris. I have had a lot of piercings in the past, this was by far the best experience overall. He clearly knows and loves what he's doing. I have since been recommending him to anyone who speaks of wanting anything pierced.For a tattoo, I went to Kevin. Not my first tattoo but my first at this shop. Again, great experience overall. I had chosen a flash design that he'd posted previously and once I arrived he gave me pricing and we talked about shading options. I also really enjoyed that when he was doing the tattoo THAT was his focus. He didn't try to talk the entire time or make conversation. There were occasional comments but otherwise I felt like his main focus was doing quality work not filling silence. I would definitely recommend him. Let me first start off by saying Chris is the best!!! I was nervous because I had put plastic retainers in my nipples due to me having a surgical procedure about 3 weeks ago. I don't know what happened but the end on the bar was embedded inside my nipple and the skin had healed over it. I was so nervous because I just knew it was going to hurt if someone tried to push it through. Chris gave me two options of what could be done to get the jewelry out of my nipple. I trusted what he suggested and before you know it... The bar was out!!! No pain because he was very gentle and put me at ease with his knowledge and expertise. Im so glad I chose to read the reviews to decide which shop I was going to go to help me with my little nipple piercing problem. Great place to get ear pierced.  I got my lobe done.  The shop is tidy, clean, and bright.  The employees are welcoming and helpful. No waiting when I visited.  Classic rock was playing.  I browsed the photo books while I waited for the room to be prepped.  Plenty of satisfied customers in pictures.  First the location was marked in blue ink and after I approved of it, he cleaned my ear, put on new sterile gloves, had me lay back on the table, and poked it through.  Felt like getting pinched.  No pain afterwards.  Over all about 1/2 an hour in and out.  I would go back for any future work.  I recommend The Tattooery for you too. I was terrified of needles and pain all my life until my friend dragged me here to have me face my fear and get a tattoo I've wanted for a long time. These guys are so good at what they do I feel like my irrational fear isnt as extreme anymore, ahaha. I don't even feel an ounce of anxiety going to them anymore!Since then, I've been here several times-- two tattoos, one done by Gabby, and one by Kevin, and I've also gotten pierced by Chris twice; for my lobes and my septum. Chris is super informative, kind and patient (I've seen him hug someone for being a little shaken, which was super sweet!), and the tattoo artists are incredibly talented, great people as well. Wonderful experiences. Eyebrow piercing in July with Chris. He was very informative and professional. Plus he is skilled, I barely felt a thing. Then, this week while waiting for tattoos I watched as multiple people came in with messed up piercings from other places or just questions. He was kind and helpful with everyone. Nose piercing. Wanna start off by saying that I was looking for a shop for an entire week straight until this morning. I am so glad I came upon this place.I am super picky, especially if it's something to do with my body. I live all the way in Germantown and was looking to stay close to home but everything I found around here had pretty bad reviews and outrageous prices. When I found this shop I was reading a good amount of reviews and saw that a lot of people had good things to say about Chris (person in charge of piercings in this shop) and how nice and helpful he is. I decided to make that mission from Germantown to CP and I'm glad I did :) Walking into the shop I was so nervous because I had been watching videos on people getting their nose pierced (not a good idea lol scared the living shit outta me) so my anxiety was on another level. I got there as a walk-in, did the paperwork and waited for like 15 minutes at most. When he took me back he introduced himself to me, told me the process of what he was gonna be doing and how and when it was time for the piercing itself he was so calm and collected. I had told him I was nervous and he was really nice and was telling me everything was gonna be ok. I was SOOO overthinking this whole process and the pain lol. Scale from 1-10 it was definitely a 2. when everything was done he thoroughly explained what I had to do to clean it and care for it. He made me feel really comfortable through the entire process. I am clumsy by nature so when my 8mm gauge cross threaded I freaked me and my family tried everything from gloves to pliers to get it unstuck to no avail. I looked up tattoo shops in my area and what once was Curious had been replaced by The Tattooery. I called and was greeted by a very nice lady she told me to come right on in and I did. In no time at all I was greeted by Chris the piercer (hot); he was very patient and light handed on my ear asking if it was painful or anything. After saving my ear and getting the plug removed he gave me very helpful information on types of plugs and tunnels he'd recommend and even a website to order them from. I visited here on a whim on September 1, 2016.  I called first to make sure they accepted walk ins. I was also able to confirm prices I saw on their website -- which is super accessible. Small, friendly shop located on the second floor. Upon entering, there's a waiting bench plastered with stickers (encouraging you to leave a one behind), a glass counter with display, art decorating the walls, & binders with images of previous jobs done there. One binder for tattoos, and one for piercings if I remember correctly. Very clean, comfortable environment. Went in there and got my nipples pierced for $90.00. Was in and out within 20-25 minutes. Despite only having my ear lobes pierced prior to this visit, it wasn't as painful as I had imagined. Chris helped me out during my time there & he was super friendly, professional & informative. Gave me a card and told me to call or stop back in the store if I had any more questions/comments/concerns. After my visit, I was emailed a care guide for the piercings. Had no issues whatsoever, & will definitely be back if I decide to pierce anything else.+extra points for the Starburst given to me after my piercing, yum!! Read Less

Went in for my 5 year old to have her ears pierced. Chris was awesome. He was patient and gentle, very informative and did his best to put my daughter at ease. After the first ear, my daughter hesitated. Chris gave us our space and allowed her to regroup. He was super patient but also great about taking the opportunity to complete the process with the least amount of pain Daughter lost the front of the earring the very next day and they replaced for free, double checked he piercing to ensure it was ok, and again super nice and professional! I will be upfront: I don't know if this is a store wide policy or simply the policy of one Blake Becker, but this was my experience.My girlfriend set up a consultation through their website. She sent a brief message saying why she was getting the tattoo, what she wanted the design to be based on, and said she would like a consultation. Blake responded and said that she should come in person while he was at the shop. There was no exact time given, no time slot booked. She walked in today and asked to see Blake. He walked out from the back and  she said she was here for a consult. All he could remember was that she was getting a tattoo for her birthday. He had not looked up photos of the location she wanted sketched out (she would have uploaded photos but there was no clear way to do so on the website), he had no sketches done, and he asked for a $50 drawing deposit in cash before he would sketch anything. My girlfriend has had several tattoos done at several places and says this is something she has never encountered before. Blake then said that if she wished to continue with him after she saw the sketch, the cost would be put toward the tattoo. If not, he would keep the deposit and she would be expected to pay him for any hours he incurred in sketching. We left. He had several months to tell her this over email before she came in. He did not. The website could list this on the artist's page if it is standard policy. They did not. There was no warning, just disappointment. Proceed with caution. Read Less

First, let me start with the positives. The shop was clean. That's it. I would not recommend this tattoo shop at all and I didn't even receive a tattoo. I'm February I had filled out the online form to express interest in getting a tattoo of two Italian churches done for my birthday by Blake. Blake responds relatively quickly and asks for me to come in for a consultation. The day of the consultation I email him just to ensure that he has availability that day to see me, which he answers he does. I arrive at the tattoo shop and meet Blake and he has no idea what my project was. I have 8 tattoos and for every consultation in other tattoo shops there has been at least a rough sketch of the potential tattoo for me and the artist to talk about. Since Blake couldn't even remember what the project was, needless to say there was no sketch. It was not a consultation at all. Just a googling session of pictures he should have looked up the entire month he had before my consultation. Then on top of it all he asks for a $50 CASH drawing deposit and then I would have to pay for every hour he spent on the sketch. 1) that would have been VERY useful information to include in your confirmation of the consultation because I know very few people who carry around more than $20 in cash. 2) I understand paying for sketch time but not for an artist who is completely unprepared. Needless, to say I turned around. Will DEFINITELY not be getting my tattoo with Blake. Read Less

I came here for a tragus piercing. I've had my fair share of cartilage piercings, and I though $55 for a tragus was a little steep (I paid $60 at another place for my industrial). The place is clean, filled with artwork, and has books with pictures of the tattoos done by the artists in the shop. The staff were friendly, and Chris, the piercer, was great and made the process quick; I was out within 5 minutes of getting the piercing done.About a week after, the ball on the barbell fell off, so I replaced the barbell with a nose ring and called the shop. They said I could come in whenever was convenient and Chris could put the piercing back in for me, free of charge. All in all, great service.P.S. it gets busy in the evening from all the students, so try to go in the afternoon or during the day. Read Less

I got my septum pierced with Chris and he was exceptional. He was so knowledgeable about piercings that I went back to him when I was having problems with another piercing that I had gotten at another shop prior to meeting him. The Tattooery was very clean and I really loved the artwork that was designed for me. However, once my tattoo healed, the real problems began. I bled a lot from this tattoo and was very concerned about it the next day. I was also unable to use the lotion they recommended for me because it burned SO badly. I called and emailed about the problem and they said not to worry about it. Well---flash forward to 6 months later with a completely healed tattoo and you can see the raised, white, embarrassing scars ruining my tattoo. The dermatologists says that the artist pushed down too hard, thus ruining my tattoo. You can see the raised, white, scars on the pictures below. They are the worst on the girls body and on three of the birds on the top row. Overall, I wish I had never gone because this beautiful tattoo that I should have loved is ruined. Hopefully my dermatologist can fix it in a year or so. Read Less

This is a great shop. Recently moved up to the area and was looking for a new shop for ink when I came across this one. The artists are really chill and cool. I got a tattoo from Gabby and she was amazing. They offer free touchups for the first 90 days of your new tattoo which is great. They did seem a little pricey for what I am used to. My tattoo turned out to be a little over $150/hr which is pretty steep to me. Then again, I'm from the south so maybe its the metropolitan inflation. Nevertheless, tattoos are permanent and the art looks great. Would recommend. Read Less

Chris (piercer) was absolutely phenomenal. I had an issue with my microdermal and he not only was able to save it, but didn't charge a service fee, and only charged me for the top jewelry. I ended up getting another site re-pierced with a dermal anchor and he did a great job showing me exactly how it would be placed and why (since it was a re-piercing over the same spot). Very informative and knowledgeable- definitely a piercer you can trust. He even gave me his card and let me know if for any reason the dermal snagged, that if I came in within a day he would be able to re-set it for me. Very nice guy and excellent customer service. After I gave him my ID, he called me by my first name which was a small but personal touch that made my interaction with him even better. Probably the best piercer I've had. The Tattooery is the bomb. They are all incredibly nice, informative, professional, talented, and most importantly, CLEAN. My artist, Gabby, must have changed her gloves half a dozen times at least! Gabby designed my beautiful tattoo from pictures of my favorite flowers in less than 3 days and had me in for my session in less than a week. She talked me through the process, showed me all of the equipment and placed my design exactly where I wanted it on the first try. While she wasn't very talkative while I was getting inked, I actually appreciated that since I was able to find my zen and I actually enjoyed the process. (Also, this meant she was really focused on the huge permanent tattoo on my back which was kinda really important!) I looked around at a lot of places, and was initially hesitant to go somewhere so close to the college, but I was drawn in after looking at Blake's tattoos on their website. Came here three times within a week earlier in the semester. First time I came in, I watched my best friend get her first tattoo from Gabby. Second time, I got a lower cartilage piercing done and it was virtually painless. Third time, I watched another friend get her second lobes and forward helix done. Everything was very affordable and my piercing was done well - I'm not sure how well the tattoo Gabby did healed. Both Gabby and Chris (the piercer) were super professional and laid back, as well as explained that all the tools are sterilized in-house. They're also super helpful when it comes to piercings. The same best friend lost the back of her tragus piercing's curved barbell (which she got done here) and they replaced the ball for free. The other friend's forward helix's hoop fell out somehow, but Tattooery was kind enough to help her get it back in.I like how there's a separate piercing area, but I personally like privacy when I get inked. The Tattooery's tattooing area is one area that can fit three working artists at a time, but no dividers or curtains or anything to divide stations up. But my friend didn't mind it when she was getting tattooed, so maybe that's just me. Otherwise, it's a great place to get your body mods done! Read Less

I got my tragus pierced with a hoop that I couldn't take out by myself, so I came here to get it changed to a stud. Another shop tried to charge me $10 for the service, but jewelry changes here are free. I brought my own jewelry, but the piercer advised me that it was too short. He wasn't pushy or anything and even said he'd still put it in if I didn't want to take his advice. Thankfully I listened and bought a longer post that they had in the shop for around $10. It fit perfectly. The guy had magic hands or something. He looked really young, so I was a little nervous at first. So I decided to finally go get tattoo number four yesterday, a simple cross on the side of my wrist. Knowing someone would probably be available for a quickie, I went to Curious... except it's no longer Curious. Same location but new management, new name, and new artists (no Stray. Me sad).Anyway, the cool receptionist chick told me Vinny could do my tat and had him come talk to me. I had a pic for him and he drew it right up. I was inked in ten minutes for $50. That's a reasonable deal in Murrland. So far, the tat looks good and is healing well. I'll update this if any problems arise.Since it's changed hands and just re-opened as the Tattooery, the shop is shiny and clean. Everything has been re-painted and the stairs no longer smell like cigarette smoke. They've even gone high tech- the receptionist had me read over the policies, sign on a signature pad, and then my copy and the aftercare instructions were emailed to me right away. Unlike some shops where the staff ignores you until you seek them out, the receptionist greeted us as soon as we walked in and while in the waiting area, the artists that walked past also said hello.I think it's a cool shop.
