Got my daith pierced about a year ago with Kai and I absolutely love it! They do an excellent job at explaining the piercing process, making you comfortable and at ease! I was allowed to ask questions and have my mom in the room to see the process. This had been my 7th piercing and by far the best experience I've ever had compared to the ones at the mall. You'll definitely pay more than at the mall, but It's definitely worth it and 100% safer! Kai goes above and beyond with making sure you have a great experience and being there through the healing process if you have any questions or concerns. Personally my daith took a little over a year to heal, but through it all Kai was so patient, helpful and resourceful whenever I had questions about my piercing. I always get compliments about my piercing and asked where I got it. I highly highly recommend getting pierced by Kai who happens to be the most amazing, talented and professional piercer of all time!!!! You will not regret it, they do an awesome job! Between everything, I spent about 6 hours in the shop the day of my tattoo, and from start to finish, it was a great experience. Never once did I feel out of place or unsafe. The atmosphere all around was super light; you could see that everyone got along, which made it more enjoyable, but everyone was still incredibly professional.Josh was my artist, and he was absolutely amazing. He was the perfect balance between talkative and chatty, yet quiet, focused, and professional. From the first time we talked weeks ago, he was extremely supportive, and committed to what I wanted to get done. I told him the base of what I wanted, but left most of the background work up to him, and he did not disappoint. My tattoo was part stencil and part freehand. I've never gotten a freehand tattoo before, but Josh made me feel 100% comfortable, and walked me through each step that he was doing during that process. It was clear that he was as excited to do this as I was. Throughout the entire session, he let me know not only what he was doing, but what his next two or three steps were, and what was going on in his head. His attention to detail is beyond anything that I could have prepared myself for. He worked quickly enough to make a lot more progress than I could have ever imagined, yet not so quick that it hurt a lot and we couldn't work. Kai is the best and most professional piercer I've ever met. I got my conch pierced with them and it was easily my most enjoyable piercing experience! Based on Kai's professionalism, level of detail, and organization abilities, it's clear they have vast knowledge and experience as a piercer. They explained everything step by step and made sure I was feeling okay throughout the piercing process. They gave me plenty of space to ask questions and share my opinions, and they responded thoughtfully and made sure I understood the answers. They gave me excellent aftercare instructions and tips to help the piercing heal well. I'm thoroughly impressed and I can't think of any constructive feedback because it was such a comfortable and seamless piercing experience. Overall the shop has an open and welcoming vibe. This place is great! My friend and I were walk ins (she for a piercing and me for a tattoo). Avery, the front desk receptionist, is wonderful and made us feel right at home. My friend and I did our research, and found this place - it had great reviews.  After contacting the shop, we were scheduled to meet with James in two weeks for a consultation, since he works a few business days per week.  We drove nearly an hour to our appointment, excited.  However, arriving only about 10 minutes early for our appointment, we were asked to wait outside!  No worries, we were still excited.  We met James 10 mins later, who had no idea he was scheduled for a consult.  James had barely spent few minutes with us and kept rushing us out.  When we pressed into discussing a design, he kept giving negative feedback, without offering any constructive changes that would work.  He finally said that if we paid $150 he would create a piece.  Of course we didn't expect a free service for a tattoo design, so we paid.  However, a week later the design that came in the email was a joke, a quick scribble.  When politely replied asking for more ideas, James promised to email a couple more.  However what he sent was a website so we could browse.... HE was paid $150 so WE could browse a website for ideas??  We ended up finding another shop that worked with us and the design was created and inked during the same appointment.  And now,  just a few short weeks later we are showing off our new tattoos! 4.5 stars. Kinda pricey but still a great place to get a tattoo! They will work with your budget. Super friendly and helpful people. Spacious and clean shop. You will have to come in person to make an appointment and have to make a deposit to secure the appointment.I got a pair of scissors on my arm about 4 inches long which came out to be $200. Black ink only but Josh added hints of white to highlight certain parts which was awesome! Josh is very experienced, and I love when artists add their own touch. The tattoo was originally just gonna be flat bold lines, but Josh added shadows and the white ink touches, and the tattoo turned out even better than I imagined!!!Josh is also very speedy; took only 30 minutes, but that means the process was more painful than usual. He's not the most gentle artist and will hammer it out. If it's your first time, he may not be the best artist for you if you are nervous. TLDR: Kai is awesome and I 11/10 recommend them. (For real. Also I high key made an account just so I could write this).I've gotten quite a few piercings done by Kai here over the last year and I've had the absolute best experience. They are helpful and friendly not to mention my ears look bomb. I first met them around one and a half years ago about a month after getting my second lobes done at Claire's (yikes). I wanted to get my helix pierced and my seconds redone due to how close they were placed. I learned that they don't perform non lobe piercings on anyone under 16, so I tabled that for a bit. Kai talked me into a third piercing on my left ear on top of my two initial ones to make a triangle and I got my second redone higher on my right ear. Kai was great and I remember them talking about how they had this cool new machine that sterilized the jewelry in only 7 minutes and thinking "wow this place really cares". Over the next few months I went back multiple times - most for new piercings and some due to me being crappy at letting them heal. I went back late at night once, terrified that I had ruined my piercing after sleeping on it and getting the back stuck in my ear, and Kai stayed late just to help me. I got a third and lobe done on my left ear, and my third on my right ear. Later, I took out my piercings on my right ear because I'm a side sleeper and I had less on that side. The holes healed up nicely enough for me to get them repierced this Sunday and Kai was once again great about it (sensing a theme here?). In addition I decided to get something in the cartilage because I was now 16 and had been wanting it for a long time. Kai recommenced a conch and I got that in my right ear so that I could sleep on my left. I absolutely love the way it looks and so far it seems to be healing well. My mom has also had a few ear piercings done by Kai and my sister had her nose and helix done. We've all had amazing experiences and Kai has been so helpful and available. I could go on and on about the experiences they've had but I'll let them say so in a different review. Overall I would absolutely recommend Kai to anyone looking to get pierced. Read Less

If I could give more than five stars I 100% would. My friend and I had called previously to ask if they accepted walk-ins for tattoos and the person who answered the phone happily told us that they did. We drove over and explained what tattoos that we wanted, knowing full well that it might not be feasible to get it that day. James told us that I would be able to get mine, but would have to see if Painless J had time to do my friend's as well because hers would take a little more time. Thankfully we were both able to walk out with some kickass tattoos. Everyone in the shop was more than amazing and friendly, but Painless J was the one that really made it one of the best experiences I've had getting a tattoo. Although my tattoo wasn't anything special, he still took the time to make sure it was perfect and was legitimately excited. I've gotten tattoos from multiple artists before, but this was the first time that I felt extremely welcomed and comfortable. I got my second piercing done on my earlobes by Kai. The salon was really clean and spacious, with couches in the waiting area. There were many earrings to choose from, both 14K gold and medical-grade titanium. There was no wait time at all (I went in the middle of the day on a Wednesday), and Kai took me back to a private room within 10 minutes of arriving. She was super nice and really professional! Although it wasn't my first piercing, it had been a long time since my first one, and Kai made the whole process really easy and simple. She explained the aftercare thoroughly, and recommended that I return in a month for a check-up. The price was very reasonable! I actually paid more for the earring than the actual piercing itself. Ear piercing:  if everyone were as thorough and professional as Kai, the world would be a far better place!  She walked my 12-year-old through every step, was calm and kind and knowledgeable, and the process was a delight.  The receptionist was lovely and gracious and gave complete and accurate information (slightly long wait because Kai is thorough and thoughtful), and was just terrific all around. I called yesterday to make sure they were opened today (holiday hrs) since my daughter wanted to get her ears pierced. I even told her that she was 13 because they asked how old she was. NEVER did they say I needed to bring in a government issued ID- just that I needed to be with her. I drive here from Howard county (since we were in the area doing other errands) and now they tell me this?!? WTF?!? You need a policy that lets ppl know in advance when they call! Took my 8 year old daughter and her friend for ear piercing. It was an AMAZING experience. Kai was so patient, professional, knowledgeable, I could go on.  My daughter can't stop talking about how wonderful Kai treated her and, in turn, made the process a positive one. I had a great ear lobe piercing experience with Kai! This was my first piercing, so I was a little nervous (even though I am an adult way past the typical first piercing age...). Kai was very professional, and made me feel comfortable with the whole process. The piercing process itself is about 25 minutes- 10 minutes to sterilize the materials, then another 10-15 minutes in the private piercing room. This included marking the spot of the piercing, talking me through how the actual piercing would go, a minute or two rest between each ear, and then aftercare. Kai used an individual needle, which is better than a piercing gun. It is much less trauma to the ear and heals better. The front desk staff was also very friendly and helpful. Overall a very professional team. I choose to get pierced here because of the high Yelp rating, and they did not disappoint. In terms of pain, it is like getting a shot. A few pinches for the needle and the jewelry insertion, then just some tolerable discomfort for the first hour or two. After the first two hours and an Advil, I don't feel any discomfort at all. I had been search for months on an artist that could do a great lettering tattoo. I wanted to get a poem that my cousin wrote but I wanted the tattoo in her handwriting. One day I stumbled across Bethesda Tattoo Company and as I looked through the artists, Adam jumped out. I had a consult with Adam and brought in photos of what I wanted and plans that I had for placement. After our talk I felt very confident that I made the right choice on artists. He never discouraged me from placement or style. What really made me happy was when he laid out all the facts, good and bad, gave his recommendation and then left it to me to decide. He did not push me in any one direction or say don't do that, all he did was give his professional recommendation on what would be best. THAT is what a professional does, gives a professionals opinion but does not force you to feel one way!We went through a few renditions of what the poem would say and placement of the lines. What made me also feel good was the fact that he had actually been actively working on learning my cousins handwriting. The tattoo is perfect, I cannot say one bad thing about my experience with Adam or the Bethesda Tattoo Company. This place in unbelievable. Their customer service is super shitty and they do not care enough to try and help you to make sure their customers are pleased. I have gotten 3 tattoos there (small writing/single letter) and its only been 2yr & 1yr that I have gotten the tattoo done. They healed well, but they are already fading. Mind you, I am not a person that loves tanning or anything alike. My skin is fair to light color and for the tattoos to already be fading clearly they do not know how to apply the ink properly because I have other tattoos that are older and they look newer than the ones I've gotten here. To top it off, I got my nose piercing there as well (you'd think I'd learn my lesson right?) nope. Wrong. I placed an order with them on 9/15/18 for a gold piercing and the piercer informed me it was a special order and the least it would take would be 3 weeks. That's if we were luck. Otherwise, it would take 5 or 6 weeks. It has now been 9 weeks and they still don't have it. It took them a week to get back to me with an update on whether they've received it or not, and they informed me that the least it would take would be another 3 weeks making it 12weeks or that it would probably be here on the 16th week!!! Can you believe that?!?Anyone, can you please confirm that this is "normal" and that it takes 16 weeks to get jewelry? Mind you, it's a plain gold nose hoop. Nothing fancy, no diamonds, not customized, no flying monkeys.... Save your money, time & skin & please go somewhere else. This review is for 'Artist' Adam. This is the worst service I've ever had. If you are not 100% sure you wanna do this tattoo, Do not go to Adam since he would tell you ' Do not do this! And I will not return your deposit!' If you are a little hesitating the position of tattoo, he would tell you 'Stop doing this! You are wasting my time, and I will not return your deposits!'He might tell you that , as a tattoo artist, it is my job to make you not regret in the future. Wtf? When you pushed me to pay for deposits and told me otherwise I could not get it done by my desired date, where is your 'professionalism'? Once I paid, you started to be a nice master, told me not to do this? Isn't this ridiculous? It's my first time doing this and this tattoo would be my next week birthday gift for myself. However, Adam ruined all my imagination to this. I don't know if there is a person that 100% sure of his or her first tattoo before doing it. You might be afraid of the hurt, hesitate of doing this or worried about if the design worth companying you forever. I have been to two places in the DMV area for tattoos here and Fattys. Bethesda Tattoo is the place I will continue to go to for my tattooing needs. The receptionist was helpful and very nice, she seemed like she wanted to help you. The artist I booked with was named Jason or painless j and he was really great, super professional, and personable. The tattoo hurt way less then my previous one because he took his time instead of digging into my skin and rushing. I would highly recommend this place for your tattooing! Read Less

Having moved here from Hawaii I needed to find a good tattoo shop to fix some bad tattoos that I got when I was younger.   I came into Bethesda Tattoo and talk to James about covering up a big black tribal scorpion in my right upper arm.  After discussing a few potential designs that I had an interest in, we decided that a tiger with some nature around it would be a good way to obscure the really dark old tattoo. The whole cover up took 4 sessions including the touch up session.   The whole process was made easy by the very polite and receptive employees at Bethesda tattooBesides talented, James is also very personable and made the experience even better.  The final product exceeded my expectations.  I will be going back to finish the rest of my right arm sleeve. My visit here was quick and easy. I went in to replace a septum piercing that I had. The wait was pretty long, but I was a walk in and they suggest making appointments. The staff was really nice and friendly. The piercer definitely knew was she was doing and was as gentle as can be. She also had an awesome poster of Steven's Universe hanging up in her work space. I came here to get my first tattoo ever with Cas Loll, and honestly I'm so happy that I picked her as my artist as it was probably the best first tattoo experience ever. The shop (Bethesda Tattoo) was great too - it's pretty much your average professional custom tattoo shop experience. The Shop's review: It may be hard to spot off the street right away, as it's located on the 2nd floor of an older building with other businesses on the 1st floor. The entrance is in-between a hair salon & alcohol convenience store. The building itself and stair-only entrance can be a bit off putting, but once you step inside the shop it's very clean & sterile. The receptionists I spoke to were courteous and I had no problems with them. The other tattoo artists were fun and joked around during my tattoo session, and overall the place had a fun vibe to it, despite the very plainish/bare bones decor. This shop does accept credit cards, which is rare for tattoo places! They take CC payments via square and you sign on an iPad. Cash, of course, is also accepted. Parking is easy: there are spots on the street with meters or a public parking garage right across the street. (There is also a Harris Teeter a few steps away if you need snacks.) This is a custom tattoo studio, so the artists like to draw unique designs for each client and know what looks best on the body. If you just want an exact copy of something you drew or something from Google/Instagram/Pinterest I'd look elsewhere. The artists are all professionals with proper art, tattooing, and cleaning/sterilization experience. Cas Loll's review: I originally reached out to her via her own website and scheduled a consult. She was friendly & fun and actually drew out a rough sketch in front of me to help visualize what the tattoo was going to look like. She incorporated all of the elements I wanted to include into the design, and asked questions about certain composition elements and gave advice on what would look best for a tattoo. She even noted what shape would look best on the specific body part I wanted tattooed! (I could tell she had a strong background in art & tattooing, which was a relief.) At the end I felt comfortable, confident, and really excited in the design we came up with! She was straightforward with the hourly pricing, time estimate, and deposit so I had a rough idea on what it'd all cost. When I came back for the actual tattoo appointment, I was THRILLED with the final design when Cas brought it out for me to see. And since it was my first time, she went ahead and put some water (instead of ink) into the tattoo machine and applied it to my skin for a few seconds initially so I could see what the pain was like (before getting something permanent into my skin)! It really helped me relax knowing what to expect from then on, and we had some great small talk (and silence) as she worked on me. She was very gentle and thorough, and made sure that all of the details were perfect before wrapping me up and sending me on my way. I followed her aftercare instructions on her website EXACTLY and my tattoo healed perfectly. I did come back a month afterwards to get a few *very* minor details touched up for free too. All in all, I'm happy that Cas was able to squeeze me into her books around my schedule/plans and everything fell into place. Bethesda Tattoo is incredible. Warm and welcoming staff from our first phone call, right to the end after our tattoos were done. Adam was our artist and he did an incredible job memorializing our dog (she's alive and well, we just love her that much ) with a re-creation of an ink pad paw print we brought him. He even added his own artistic touch to the tattoo by adding fern fronds as a frame around the tattoo (our pup loves romping in ferns in the woods). He was uber-professional, easy to talk to, constantly aware of how we were dealing with the pain (which wasn't that bad), and was more attuned to hygiene rules than any doctors office or hospital I've ever visited. He treated his tattoo station the way I imagine hospitals manage their operating rooms. I would 1000% emphatically recommend Adam and the Bethesda Tattoo shop to anyone. Had a great experience the first time and an equally great experience during my last visit (about 2 months ago). Daniela was awesome and super professional; she really cares about making sure you're happy with your piercing, and gives detailed instructions for aftercare (she even gave me her contact info in case I had questions or concerns). Full disclosure: I didn't get any tattoos or piercings here, rather, I accompanied a friend who was getting a few piercings.But I feel like I need to review this place because it was somewhere I think I'd come if I ever wanted to get a tattoo or another piercing! First of all, it's a very bright and welcoming space, with a super clean waiting area. The front desk staff was soooo nice and very informative about what kind of earrings my friend could choose and how much each piercing would cost, and she thoroughly explained all the paperwork.The piercer was also really nice! My friend said, after getting the piercing, that she was really careful and also explained what she was doing, which is always comforting when you're literally getting a needle through your skin and cartilage. After the piercing was over she was so nice and really made my friend feel super pretty with her new earrings (she did/does look super good!). Beyond that, every other artist I've met there is incredibly friendly and all have an impressive array of work. I've been to many tattoo places, even in other states. This was by far the worst place I've been to. The receptionist was rude and was not helpful what so ever and when I mentioned why something wasn't disclosed to me over the phone, she said and I quote "that's not my job", but told me when I got there, so which one is it?Is it not your job or are you just lazy? She was probably just trying to rush me off the phone. I'm in customer service and would not dare act like she did, the person at the front desk should be pleasant and helpful, even if its at a tat shop. The piercer was some trash too. I got my first tattoo on Sunday at Bethesda Tattoo, and it was a really good experience, so I wanted to make sure people knew about it! I walked in without an appointment because I'm organized like that, and everyone was super helpful getting things set up. I had some old-timey handwriting I wanted to get done on my arm, and they helped print it out and figure out what would work. I worked with Josh, and he was awesome! He was totally cool with my newbie status and answered all my questions. He took his time explaining everything as we went, including how it would happen, and I was really appreciative of how long he spent making sure the sizing/placement of the tattoo was right for me. I was pretty nervous, but the more time I spent there, the more comfortable I felt. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Josh had a really good mix of being low-key/laid-back but also taking it really seriously. This place seems like it's all worth it until you start the tattoo process. I went in seeking a rather detailed piece. I set a consultation, and I chose Victoria to proceed with the tattoo as her work seemed to best match what I needed. The consultation went perfectly, I set the tattoo dates immediately after. Since it was a detailed piece, it was going to take two sessions. I booked the dates specifically around my schedule as I was leaving the area soon. I set the first for 8-5 at 1, and the next 9-10. I got a call changing just the time for my first appointment, which I was reluctant to but I figured I already took off work and lost money for that day so why not. So I walk in on the 5th at the later time, and they tell me it's cancelled..?????????? I ask why and the tattoo artist and receptionist had deleted schedules and overbooked. UNACCEPTABLE. I already waited for my first appointment and to find out that it "got deleted" was beyond frustrating. It was clear my tattoo was not even drawn out yet. Regardless of whether the appointment got cancelled, AT LEAST the drawing should've been completed after the consultation. It seemed like poor planning all around. The worst is they got to keep my deposit. The reason I needed it so soon was because I'm moving out of the area. Now that money is thrown in the trash. Thanks for nothing. Read Less

Just finished up one of two pieces I've had done here that took a combined eight months to complete. James did the work, and not only are both pieces absolutely amazing, it was a great experience having them done. James is super cool, and we talked about all kinds of interesting things while he worked his magic. The rest of the people in the shop are really friendly and helpful as well.Both pieces I had done are black and grey. The first is a relatively large phoenix on my right side, coming up from my hip to around both sides of my right pectoral. I explained what I wanted to James, sent him some photos and ideas, and he came up with a great design. The work was painful - apparently work on the ribs always is - but it was worth it.The second piece is a series of Celtic art pieces around my left arm, covering my left shoulder including the back and around down my left pectoral. Again, shared a bunch of images and talked through the designs together over the course of doing the work, and it turned out great. I'll have to post some photos when it's fully healed.Can't say enough about James, the people there and the work. It was a fantastic experience - one I needed for my own reasons - and I feel like I made new friends. It isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for, especially when it comes to tattoos, and I, for one, certainly don't want to go cheap when it's something I'll have with me every minute of every day for the rest of my life. From walking into Betheada Tattoo Company to schedule my appointment the receptionist was very nice and welcoming and the first time I spoke to Jermaine was very nice. I went for my tattoo today and was not disappointed. This was my first tattoo done here and I was a little nervous just because I don't like pain (mind you I have a tattoo on my foot). Jermaine was very supportive and was great with calmingy nerves. If I decide to get another tattoo I will go back there for sure. I will recommend Bethesda Tattoo for your tattoos and Jermaine. Honestly this was my first time being in a tattoo parlor..I came to get my eyebrow pierced and the piercer talked me through my questions and answered them all. I really appreciated her talking through the process and that she told me to breathe a few times .the last time I exhaled the needle was in and I barely felt it! Overall an awesome experience! So I booked my day for the tattoo a couple months in advance and scheduled my consultation with Leam. I came back for my consultation and I had my design already. Leam seemed to half listen to me. He told me to go home and put black outlines on my design (a watercolor tattoo) and to imagine it a lot bigger. (It's a radish and 3 short words) I went home and edited the design and even photoshopped it onto my arm to show size (half my forearm), and emailed it in. I got no response. I called the parlor and asked if they had gotten my email. They said they had and had forwarded it to Leam. They said if he had not responded then it was fine. I show up today, Leam asks me why I'm here, "Because I have an appointment with you?" He says he sent me an email saying he couldn't do the tattoo today, looks at his phone, and says darn it didn't send! I took 4 hours off work! So did my husband! We ask why he can't do it, it's such a simple tattoo! and he says because of our interaction! I have been nothing but sweet this whole time! Then Leam says because I'm not a tattoo artist and think everything is simple. I was completely distressed that going there again and again and again left me with nothing when other tattoo artists had looked at my design and called it simple, easy, and straightforward. Little and big things matter. I will change rating depending on how my experience is from now on. 100$non-refundable deposit and pricey.  But the artist at my consultation was nice and I wanted a good job done  that's why I trusted and made the appt. However later The day of my consultation I texted him sending him my tattoo pictures that he asked me to send him but He never confirm receiving my text to let me know he got them which I think wasn't good communication. I was bothered only A little but optimistic I called a WEEK later to ask did he ever received my pictures. But to start making the experience a little more regretful that girl who answers the phones starts telling me that he won't have drawing yet and I told her that's not the reason why I called. Then she started saying that he's just very busy   And doesn't  have time, gave me no apology and kept making excuses which got me annoyed. I felt that she made light of my reason to call instead of just apologizing for the lack of communication and move on. She made it worst by being cocky and trying to get the last word. I had to keep correcting her on her wrong assumptions of my reasons to call. I don't think she showed good customer service or appreciation for my business. But because I put down my deposit I will move on with this appointment and update my review after my tattoo is done and my experience with their CUSTOMER SERVICE in hope that their appreciation for their customer's business doesn't end after $100 deposit. I got my tattoo done by Jermaine. It turned out good, with a few small human errors that I can live with. However, I'm sad that the tattoo ended up being way different than what I wanted. During my consultation I told him I didn't want it to be shaded. I told him maybe a tiny bit of dot shading, but mostly just the outline. He acknowledged that I wanted a lot of open skin and I even sent him pictures of the minimalistic style I wanted without much shading.During the tattoo appointment I got up to see the outline of the tattoo which looked great. He said there was just a little shading left to do and I'd be done. I assumed he was going to do the dot shading we talked about and so I said ok. Once the tattoo was done and I got up to view it I was shocked because it was really dark, realistic, and fully shaded. It looked good but unfortunately not what I expressed I wanted. I didn't say anything because it did look good and I was still in shock from getting a tattoo and well, at that point what's done is done. It's permanent and definitely unfixable. He was also very nice and I felt bad showing that I was disappointed.I wanted to write a review to tell people to make sure your artist knows exactly what you want on THAT day in case they forgot. I know it's partly my fault for not reminding him I did not want it shaded. It never hurts to keep telling them what you want on the day of your tattoo so that you get what you pay for. I had a daith piercing done three weeks ago, and Corinne was terrific. I'm terrified of sharp objects, but this piercing has a high success rate of helping migraine sufferers, so I figured a few minutes of pain could save me years of feeling sick all the time. The pain was minimal, and she took time to really make me feel at ease. I would highly recommend Corinne for piercings. She's great. I've had 2 tattoos in the last year by Jermaine.  He works with your ideas and brings them to life!  The colors and designs he did for me are just beautiful and make me happy every time I look at them! I was nervous coming in for my first ever tattoo, but everyone here was super friendly and warm, and made me feel so at ease, especially the artist - Jermaine. During my consult he gave me advice on sizing and positioning, I gave him some print outs illustrating my idea. When I came back a week later for my appointment he'd drafted two options - both put my vision together better than I could've ever imagined myself! Jermaine's demeanor is so relaxed and calming - he did a great job keeping my mind off the pain (which actually wasn't so bad). Came yesterday with my teenage brother for a single lobe piercing. Asked the woman at the front desk how much it would cost beforehand-- was told $50 for both lobes. We tried to clarify-- does that mean $25 for one ear? The woman said she wasn't sure, but "probably". She then reassured us she would check with the piercer. Waited for a bit before my brother went back to again check with the woman. She still had no answer for us, but again told us she would confirm the cost with the piercer. She did not.My brother is then ushered into the piercing room, at which point I turn to the woman and quickly try to confirm that the piercing would be $25. Her response is a nervous "I think so", so we proceed-- our mistake.My brother gets the piercing. As we make our way to the front desk, the piercer informs the front desk lady that it'll cost $50.   I say-- shouldn't it be $25? She says no and turns her back abruptly. The woman at the front desk rings us up without comment, and we are too stunned to object.Reality check-- $50 for a single lobe piercing is way above market price, as highlighted by the audible gasps from others in the waiting room. Always love going to Bethesda Tattoo. Great people and vibe, cool shop, and professional. I know some people have mentioned the turnover but James runs a great shop. My wife and I had a session scheduled for approximately 3 months. There was a scheduling error but they managed to get her in with Jermaine who did a phenomenal job on a very meaningful tattoo for my wife. James is 6/6 for tattoos with me and I'm a pain in the @$$. I am so happy with Bethesda Tattoo Company. I've now been pierced by Vanessa and Rachel, and both of them were pretty spectacular. Whenever I have been there, the shop always smells incredibly clean, the staff is freaking amazing - and NICE!!!, and there's an awesome atmosphere at the shop. Even the music they play for background noise is pretty awesome.Because the shop is within a mile of a metro stop, my friend and I decided to metro to Bethesda (instead of trying to battle beltway rush hour traffic). We got off the red line at the Medical Center stop and took a casual 10 minute stroll to the shop. If you prefer to drive to this location, there IS a parking garage right across the street. Currently, though, it is under construction, and a lot of the spots are take.Sure, you may pay a bit more at Bethesda tattoo than you will other locations, but it's worth it for the experience, cleanliness and professionalism the shop offers. I had been thinking about a tattoo for awhile now but never really told anyone. I thought long and hard about where (on my body) I'd get it and what I'd get. And after that, of course was the decision of WHERE (shop location) I should get inked.I had two glowing recommendations for Bethesda Tattoo from people I trust (my former boss who had both of his sleeves done here and a photographer friend). They said it was a little expensive, but it was very clean and the artists were great.After my 30th birthday, I decided to just do it. I told 3 friends that I was doing it and NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM believed me. And even AFTER I got it, until I sent follow up photos, no one believed me. I showed up one random Saturday evening to get a quick quote and it turned out they were able to do it right then. I paid the shop minimum ($80). I came by myself because I didn't want anyone to talk me into it or out of it. But I have to admit, after I paid and I was waiting around, I had a moment of...maybe I shouldn't do it. You know, he hasn't done it yet...you can still run out of here! But then this tall, tattooed, bearded guy walked up to me and just started chatting and getting everything ready for me. And I was instantly calm. He didn't know the thoughts of doubt in my head, he was just talking to me. And for some reason it worked and I was ready to go. His name is James by the way. And he was AWESOME.I got a heart on my left wrist. And yes, it hurt. At first, I was like....ok this isn't so bad...wait NOPE. NOPE. That's sharp! I stared at the ceiling and focused on breathing. Yeah, that worked. And then boom! It was done. (I think it took longer for him to set up than to actually do it.)Post inking, James went over all of the after-care items. He sent me home bandaged and with an "after-ink" care package - A&D ointment, after-ink lotion and a bottle of soap and typed instructions. He also told me to contact him if I had any questions or concerns for after care maintenance. I can totally see why people love Bethesda Tattoo. Their new spot on Woodmont is open and bright and everyone seems to love what they do. I don't foresee myself getting any more tattoos but I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone else looking for more ink. Read Less
