This joint is everything I expected out of a old school tattoo shop. I was recently tattooed by Adam Jeffrey but worked with him at Great Southern Tattoo Company the first time. The first thing that will get you as it got me was the amount of art and artifacts of tattooing throughout the shop. When they say museum they mean museum. While you wait for your tattoo artist to get to work on you you have the opportunity to walk around the shop to look at art and take a trip back into time of tattooing. It's a blast! From old framed news paper articles to all types of tattoo drawings from the ceiling down. The customer service there is a great vibe from the front desk to every you bump into while waiting. The vibe just makes you want to hang out there all day and listen to Prince and eat pizza! Ah yes the music. They play a random mix of music. When I say random I mean random! From rock/4 tops fusion to Duran Duran...don't forget Prince. The beauty of this is if your aren't talking much with your artist (which you should because sitting there and getting inked up while being silent is straight up rude!) you will when some random 80's cringe worthy song that reminds you of your childhood comes on. What I like about this place the most is the workspace your artist has. Rather than being completely open like other places each artist has their own semi private room (like a dentist office with no door) with a window between each. You and your artist can kick it, shoot the shit but still hear the buzz and see the customer and artist next door. First time I ever been to a place like this and I'm sold! Don't get me wrong I understand how other tattoo parlors are set up in the open air concept but I prefer this one hands down. It's located in old downtown Baltimore walking distance from awesome bars and food joints. Parking is either meter or parking garage a few blocks away. So plan accordingly. So needless to say based off this review you can see why I gave it 5 stars. This is my take and you may not see why I dropped 5 on it (name that artist) if you go but that's the beauty of it being MY review. So if you want to drop in and The Baltimore Tattoo Museum don't hesitate, it's worth it hands down. Adam Jeffrey is a freakin' professional and knows his tattooing no questions asked. Got tattooed with Tory. Excellent guy and excellent line work. Barely hurt (I got it on my ribs) and healed with no complications. Came in as a walk-in on a Saturday afternoon, with a general idea of what I wanted. Based on only my vague description and a couple Google'd pics of the mountain range I was thinking of, Dave had completed an original drawing within a few minutes. Tory was fantastic.   I went in with an idea about what I wanted but not a clear image.   He asked lots of questions and listened to what I wanted.  And he sketched the perfect design.  I was a bit nervous during the tattooing but he was patient with me.  And the result was awesome.  I highly recommend Tory and this shop. If your going to be going to this for the sole purpose of the museum and do not have ink, you maybe disappointed. I've been here twice to get ink specifically with tats for tails event. I have gotten work done by Chris Keaton both times. He made sure I was comfortable and worked with me to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. Offered solid advice and clean, Lines. The ankle peice he was slow and progressed to the worst parts and made sure I was comfortable going into the more painful components. Can't comment about the piercing as I have not used those services. Tats for tails is a solid event every year that requires planning in order to make sure that you get in with a number, but we'll organized and smoothly run. The Baltimore Tattoo Museum is by far one of the best places to get tattooed on the city. I recently went, though, to see Ida Slaughter who does eyebrow microblading! I went in and we talked about what it was and what to expect. She's very thorough and professional, this woman is amazing. She measured and used an app to make sure everything was symmetrical and going to be beautiful. The microblading process itself was not painful to me, it was fun!After the first session I followed the care instructions perfectly and then a month later went back for the second session touchups. The end result is INCREDIBLE!!  I have the eyebrows of a 20 year old who never over-plucked!! I highly recommend this to any person who wants the perfect eyebrows with zero daily work. I had my rook pierced at a place in south Florida that my ear really did not take to, honestly one of the most painful piercings I've ever had. Lo and behold not only did it never heal but my ear had some kind of reaction. Came in here, not only were they super knowledgeable but also really gentle when removing the bad piercing from my ear which was extremely swollen. Given this, you'd think the removal would have hurt worse, and aside from feeling it being moved a bit, did not have any pain surprisingly. Will absolutely come back here if I choose to have something else done. Came highly recommended from a friend who had her Monroe pierced and from what she said is healing beautifully. I went here on Monday to get a septum piercing. I actually had planned to go elsewhere, but their piercer wasn't in. However I'm so glad that I came to BTM, because the piercer was so friendly, clean, and fast. Also, it's quite a short walk to Pitango Gelato, and if there's ever a reason to get gelato it's because you've just put a hole in your nose. So usually I never write reviews just will star rate and keep it moving but my experience here was GREAT joe did a cover up for me on my ankle and it's amazing.. he was patient with me while I needed a break and even tho I squirmed a few times my lines are super clean..Overal it's a perfect tatoo espically for it being a cover up. I came in for a tattoo back in 2012 that I'd always wanted and not only did the artist (his name is escaping me right now, but he had dark hair - not that that's helpful) do a wonderful job on my new one he also offered to tough up two small ones I had on my wrists for nothing. Who does that? No one, that's who. I came back with my best friend in 2014 and Joe Schupp did an amazing job on our custom tattoos. We walked in with a few ideas in mind and he drew up something perfec...t. About a year later I went back to him to get color put into it (it's a gear arrow concept) and he didn't charge me for it. I'm telling you now that absolutely no one does that. I gave him everything in my wallet because I was so appreciative. I then went back to Joe later to get tattoos with my sisters and he knew exactly what we wanted and took really good care of all three of us. I got tattooed here at a fundraiser for BARCS, a local animal shelter. I loved the cause especially since I adopted my dog from them. However, the results were less than satisfying. I was getting tattooed in memory of my childhood dog that just passed away. It was a very meaningful tattoo yet the execution was terrible. The paw prints don't have the same shape as the stencil. The toes aren't the right size. It looks like I have bear prints tattooed on me. I am very displeased with the result and the fact I now have to pay someone else to try to fix it. I don't know if the artist just felt rushed because they were trying to tattoo as many people as fast as they could but I don't think a great event like this should cause the artists to slack in their attention to detail and execution. This museum has a pretty sweet collection of tattoo history. While not huge, they've got a nice size collection of vintage and American style tattoos, tattoo guns of the past, and an all star crew of artists. Joe Shupp tattooed a cute little bunny on me and made sure the color I wanted was just right. A couple friends and I went in for piercings without any appointments and thankfully Chris was free. I was a bit nervous about getting my Tragus pierced, but Chris calmed me down and was super friendly. He marked my ear based on where I wanted my piercing, told me how to breathe during the process, checked on my stability after and even provided me care instructions after. You have to see this place! Tons of history and info on the art of tattooing and the history of the art. Old tattoo machines and literature, memorials on the legends and innovators and lots of cool vintage wall flash. This place is clean and the staff is very professional.  I dipped in on a weekday afternoon while on vacation with my wife and were greeted and directed to look around and ask questions. I was shocked at how professional the staff was. I am a tattoo collector and have been in many, many tattoo shops and can say with certainty that this place is top notch! I got a super slick piece from Dave Cise and I am absolutely satisfied!  He was very easy to talk to and work with and exceeded all of my expectations with the completed work. Dave Sobel rocks the best tattoos. I have work from a lot of different people, but the ones he did are the ones I get stopped on the streets and asked about. He knows how to make a tattoo look the best over time, which is actually the most important thing to consider. I mean they are forever after all... I had heard WONDERFUL things about this place and was extremely dissapointed with my experience. We showed up HOURS before they closed only to have them tell us that they didnt have time, despite the fact that the entire place was empty and they didn't have any appointments coming in. They made snarky remarks about our choice of tattoos, and wanted to draw them without us having any input whatsoever. I came into make an appointment. I stated what I wanted. She agreed to make a mock up and charged me for it. I had a follow-up consult which was pushed back 3 hours due to her scheduling issues. I came in on time and waited about 20 minutes after my appointment time only to be shown a tracing not a drawing. If I wanted a tracing I would have traced in myself. Thanks. Third appointment, she made me wait again because she was on the phone. She was rude, seemed as if doing her job was a very inconvenient thing and still had not done anything besides the tracing which I can now use as a pricey piece of toilet paper. I ended up canceling because I didn't want a tattoo on my body that would remind me of this experience and someone whose ego shows up to a party 10 minutes before her. My husband and I came in on saturday which is a "walk-in" day. We were there 3 hours before the shop closed, i wanted something really tiny, but my husband wanted his whole left arm tattooed with a huge dragon. One of the new guys Chris, took us both, my tattoo toke 15 mins, his took one hour and some. Price was steep, but the work was incredible, well worth it.
