I came to Body Mod specifically for Phil. I did a lot of research on the different types of tattoos and then once I figured out what I wanted, I went in search of my artist! I looked at every tattoo parlor I could for the watercolor tattoos and out of everyone in the Metro/DC area, Phil's work really stood out. He was originally with Mystic and I travelled all the way there (1 hr 15 min drive) to put my deposit and make my appointment only to find out that Phil had moved to a different tattoo place. Once I was able to track him down, I made an appointment at Body Mod on Saturday July 2nd at 3:30PM. I was super nervous when I got there since this was my first tattoo and I didn't really know what to expect. The people who checked me in were friendly. We got there early so they let us hang out until my appointment time. When Phil got there, we went over my design request and he went straight to work. He was super nice and funny and helped me stay at ease as the tattoo was going. I joked with him about doing research and found him with the best watercolor tattoos whereas everyone else's looked like stained glass!Although I didn't have a huge tattoo, it was still a decent size and required a good amount of time, about 2 hrs and Phil was diligent throughout the whole process. At the end, I realized I forgot to tell him I wanted to also add a script to my tattoo and he was totally fine with it and free handed the script. I went in last week to set up an appointment to get a very small (3 in tall) and very simple tattoo done on my sternum. I already have a large back piece and side piece that are absolutely phenomenal so I know what a good tattoo looks like. I talked to the man at the front desk who was very nice and helpful. He said that the artist would be in by 1100. I waited for an hour an a half until the artist decided to show up at 1230. He appraised my tattoo at 120$ which I thought was rather ridiculous considering how small and simple it was, but I had good faith so I agreed. It took him about 10 minutes to tattoo. Hands down the absolute worst artist I've ever experienced. He didn't make me feel comfortable whatsoever and he tattooed my piece CROOKED. Its been about a week and as my new tattoo heals its darker in some places than others and he failed to even fill in the entire tattoo. I will never be going there again and I hope you never have to experience this disaster. Read Less

went in for a tragus piercing. front desk girl was kind of nice but piercer (dumpsterella??) was not really interested in piercing me, I could tell. he was somewhat rude and it was very over priced. piercer only have me about 10 jewelry options to choose from. also - I have had a lot of issues with my piercing despite me taking really good care of it. They do a good job...of ripping you off.I went in for a lip ring. Not only was that over priced, but they wanted to charge me an additional $10 fee for them to put it in...no. I can manage myself. So I put it in as I was going out and it was WAYYY too big. Couldn't even close my mouth. I went back to tell them they need to give me another, they refused to take the first one back, understandable, but then the manager himself over charged me for the second one claiming he was giving it too me at their cost as an apology. Which is B.S., I know they get a bag of simple rings for nothing. Maybe 45¢ per ring. Not $6. I'm so ashamed to say I even paid it, I didn't catch it till later. If it weren't for the fact I was in a rush and was already behind schedule maybe I would have paid better attention.Terrible business. Shame since their location is convenient. I came to Annapolis specifically to check this shop out.  I have had work done here in the past but the artist is gone.  Three people were there.  No one said anything to me at any point.  One person was helping someone but hello is still an option.  The other two walked to the back of the shop.  Honestly, for a mall tattoo shop that can get walk in business??? Not even a head nod or eye contact.  My bad for having expectations. I'm not asking for cartwheels but a hello and showing me a portfolio could have gotten someone a client today. Read Less

This tat shop "Body Mod" has some really good artists that collaborate well with each another, whether someone else drew up the tat or not the artwork always comes out looking magnificent. When getting a tat you only wanna work with highly skilled artists, Body Mod i feel is a  place to come and get tats because it seams they only higher skilled artists. Read Less

My friend always talks so highly of this place so I decided to try it out... big mistake. I stood in the ship for 10 minutes with all the employees staring right at me the whole time. It wasn't until I was walking out that someone decided to finally come over and talk to help me out. The woman was rude... almost as if I was wasting her time. She got pissy that I had asked for prices on two piercings. Let's just say I'll never go back. They are way over priced and rude. My mother decided to get her first tattoo at age 52 after my Grandfather passed away.  Her negative attitude was finally uplifted a bit when she came to me and I was more than happy to get one with her!That being said,  Body Mod was our first choice and almost completely crushed my mothers experience.  We went there because of its reputation and the rumor that Chris Nunez sometime was a guest artist. Upon finding it moved from its location in Annapolis mall to a new one we almost missed it completey.  Given it moved I gave it a chance, even though the entire place was in disarray and did not have any of the conventional flash art you would see up on the walls.  There was trash and random stuff everywhere, with two chairs sitting in the back.  You know how a tattoo shop usually smells like a hospital?  A fresh clean smell?  This one smelt like cigarettes and body odor.  Upon entering, the gentleman was busy doing some drawing and the mohawked girl was taking t-shirts out of a box.  They barely even bated an eye as we entered.My mom had an average, not overly reasonable experience she had in mind for her first time consultation.  Body Mod failed to meet any, I repeat- ANY, of her expectations; as for myself, I have four previous tattoos and I really thought that this was crazy how they neglected us.  We did not feel like we should even be there, let alone get my mother tattoed for her first time.My mother wanted an Irish Fairy with a wand that had three small birthstone gems coming out of it.  First they told her they couldn't even do it at all for the size she wanted, then they said the only way they could even do anything like it is if it was the size of her leg.  This was all said without ever once even making eye contact with her.  Then the pricing they included in this consult was "At least a grand".I wanted an traditional anchor on my leg about the size of a fist.  Their price for this was "500 to 600 bucks".  That was all they said regarding our inquiries.  The only other thing they said was that Chris Nunez will no longer be appearing there because the owner opened up a new shop in Baltimore and he was the owners old friend.My best guest is that the owner bailed on whoever is left there and they decided to take the shop over.  I do not recommend this shop to anyone, unless I guess you know the people in the shop.  The consult was terrible, I wouldn't even call it a consult honestly.  The artist and shop looked completely unprofessional.  The place was in a disaray and quite frankly disgusting for a tattoo shop.  I remember being really impressed by the layout when I had first seen the shop a long time ago and that was another reason I honestly went there.  The pricing was ridiculous!  If my mother had gone there by herself (and we had that money to throw) she could of been suckered into spending that kind of money.  I hope this will save someone the heart ache of getting ripped off and having a bad experience for what should be a wonderful experience!We left the shop really bummed out and I was ready to just say forget it.  My mother was in the first good spirits she had been in since my grandfather had passed and insisted we tried another shop by our house.  I don't like just going into random shops because I do not want to get a bad tattoo!  We'll the next shop treated us like customers and really worked with my mom.  Mr. Zach Volatis was really great and after we left the shop my mother stated " I thought that was what a tattoo consultant should of been like".  That being said we got our tattoos the next week, really not much different than what we invisioned, actually I take that back, he included alot more than we invisioned.For more tattoo than what we described to the artists, great quality and shop; we got the same tattoos- My Mothers Irish Fairy sitting on an anchor with three gemstones coming out- $300 My traditional anchor the size of a hand- $300So my advice is to not go to Body Mod at all. Instead head on down to Aquahart rd in Glen Burnie to Exotic Pleasure Tattoo and Piercing.  Zach Volatis did a better than par job and put a smile and a little bit of fulfillment in my lovely mother.This is all just my view and experience with Body Mod, I just hope that this review will help out someone thinking about getting a permanent piece of art on their body! My sisters and I weren't even greeted when we walked into the establishment today. The tattoo artist was so rude. He looked at his phone the entire time while we were talking to him. We had a 3:30 appt to get a tattoo and he stated that he was the only one in the shop and had another customer coming in. So we asked if he would be ready at 3:30 because we showed up at 3:09 and he replied "yea" we said thank you and he replied "uh huh" what an asshole! We left to go next door and came back to him tattooing a girl in his chair and eating fucking Chipotle!! Its was 3:25!!! The girl brought him lunch so I'm sure it wasn't a client. We waited for over an hour!! He was still doing the chicks tattoo. They require a $50 down payment and refused to refund it! If the tattoo artists breaks the appt then they should return the deposit no questions asked! The artist was so rude to us but so friendly to the chick in his chair so I'm pretty sure if we were WHITE we wouldn't have had an issue. He acted like is being in the shop annoyed and disgusted him. I will never go back there again!!  The front desk girl didnt have an attitude she actually explained to us that they were short staffed but the tattoo artists acted like a racist cunt!! Read Less

Great place! I see Deirdre but there are other great artists and they have guest artists frequently.  It can be pricey but you get what you pay for and well this is something you have permanently on your body so consider it an investment! After reading reviews (on another online site) about  tattoo parlors in the area, Body Mod and two other parlors were my top three picks for getting my first tattoo ever.  I called all three places with questions, and it became quickly obvious that Body Mod was the way to go.Joyce was great talking to me, answered all my questions, was friendly and open.  Since I had a custom design in mind, she suggested that I email it.  After I did, she called me the next day with a price estimate and more suggestions about best time to come in, etc.  When I got to the parlor (located in Annapolis Mall, and SO CLEAN with a really nice work area, private rooms as well, and impressive artwork all around), she had a copy of my email printed out and ready to go.  She scheduled Dana to be my tattoo artist.  We had to wait a couple of hours while he was finishing up with some other clients, but this is where the location of  the parlor comes in really handy...it's an easy place to kill time if you have a wait.Dana was AWESOME.  He took my design ideas and created an original tattoo that blended my favorite elements into a really cool design.  He was professional, friendly, and gentle--laughed and chatted with me the whole time and had me completely at my ease.  (As a first-time tattoo customer, that's saying a lot.)  He also took great care to make sure everything was sterile--gloves, new needles, etc.  Dana went over after-care thoroughly, and I'm happy to report that my new tattoo healed beautifully and flawlessly and just...well...ROCKS!I brought a friend with me who had her naval pierced while I was getting my tattoo.  She was very happy with the selection of jewelry, the cleanliness of the piercing room, and the staff who worked with her.    It was a great experience for both of us.We wouldn't hesitate to go back...and I can't recommend Dana enough to do your next tattoo! I'd been here once before with a friend when she got her industrial pierced, and she raved about the guy who did it. So I was pleased that the same guy, George, was available today to do my vertical hood piercing.I came in here with no little amount of trepidation regarding the proximity that a piercing needle would soon have to my babymaker, coughed up my $80 (kinda steep but for how nice the shop was I didn't mind), and watched George set up. First of all, he changed his gloves every time he touched something new, which I greatly appreciated. He walked me through everything he was going to be doing, explained all the tools he was using to me, and really took his time about marking off where the piercing was going to be.After that, it was pretty smooth sailing. Five seconds of the anticipated pain, and then my jewelry was in and George explained the aftercare on the handout he'd given me. It was a really great experience - he was a lovely guy, and the shop was as clean and sterile as a gynecologist's examining room. The vibe all around was one of professionalism. Nice display, mgmt sux. I stopped in to have a tattoo retouched and they couldnt decide on a price. It took 2 people, 10 minutes to decide on the price for a 3 inch  tattoo. I stopped by 2x and received 2 different prices. Get it together! I wouldn't trust anyone to ink my skin if they are that unsure of their policies/prices. Read Less

***4.5 Stars****I gave 4.5 since my visit was a minor one, will update in the future. This is new tattoo shop inside Annapolis Mall across from Teavana on the Nordstrom side.  First off, it's gorgeous! The art work is AMAZING and it's covering every wall. There are 4 spots available in the open area of the shop, they also offer private rooms if you need it . There is an extensive collection of body jewlery to choose from and they also do piercings as well.  The shop is beautiful and more importantly it's super clean. There were 3 tattoo artists when I went in for a visit. They always have events for special guest artists as well such as Chris Nunez and BOOG. I'll be dropping in again fo sho. Read Less
