I really love New Orleans tattoo museum. Adam Montegut is one of the best in my eyes. I've spent around 75 hours getting inked by him and he's been an awesome person to get to know over the years. I've given him my ideas and he drew custom sleeves for my leg and arm. I get compliments weekly on them. The other artist are always friendly and enjoyable to be around as well.... I'll try to keep this brief because nobody is going to read a long drawn-out review-I've had an idea for a specific tattoo for awhile, I wanted some dinosaur art, reminiscent of the kind of stuff I read in all those dinosaur factoid books I consumed as a child, I sent him a couple of reference pieces. We met up, he seemed pretty excited and interested in my concept and we set a time to start.I couldn't believe what he had drawn up for me, one of the things I look for in my tattoo artists is someone that can actually draw. And to say that Adam can draw is a understatement,. I want original art on my body and Adam nailed it. When I went in with my wife for the first session I was really impressed by what he had drawn up, and when we were discussing placement and whether or not to reverse the image, Adam called a couple of other artists in the studio to discuss what they thought in terms of direction. The man cares about his work, that can't be said for all tattoo artists out there.While he was tattooing me I could tell that he was genuinely invested in what he was doing, I had a lot discussion about what color palate I wanted, what he thought would look good, essentially I left most of it up to him. Not to mention he's just an all around pleasant dude.I can't recommend him enough, and when I get the rest of my back filled in with more awesome prehistoric art I'll be going to him without a doubt, Adam will be getting more of my business in the future.I uploaded a pic of my tattoo to imgur, this is about two weeks out healing, there's no filters or anything applied, just natural sunlight. I have gotten tattoos from Adam in the past and yes his work is great but three weeks ago I got a simple fleur dis Lis on my wrist by Jamie Winn nothing fancy or special. I thought what I had on it was just a scab that appeared a week or so after it was done and it would peel off eventually and that would be it. Well it never did till this day and when I emailed Adam the owner of the shop along with a picture of it I was told it was fine and that there was nothing wrong with ...it. I did my home work before emailing him and every website that I looked at said scarring can happen if the artist goes to deep with the needle or doesn't tattoo at the proper angle and the main sign of scarring is raised skin/ink. All the descriptions I read matched what is going on with my tattoo. When i brought this to Adams and Jamie's attention they barely gave me the time of day. I went to the shop to have them look at it and they both barely looked at it and said it was fine it wasn't scarring and to give it three more weeks. I got a second opinion from another artist and he confirmed what I already knew that it was scarred and there was nothing else that could be done at this point. What I am most pissed off and upset about is their lack of concern for my feelings and their lack of professionalism. I came to them knowing something was wrong with my tattoo and instead of reassuring me that it would be fine and they would fix it I was brushed off and told by Adam directly that I had "web md syndrome". I know I am not a professional tattoo artist but I have enough tattoos to know something isn't right with this one. I won't be returning to them for any more work and I would urge others to re-consider going here. I've never felt such disrespect from someone in this industry ever. It would have been nice to continue to get work from them but if you don't care about your clients and their worries and concerns and just tell them they are crazy and not really listen to what they are saying then you won't have much of a client base. I was in town for business, and came across Rachel Ulm's work online. We emailed a few times so she could get an idea of what I wanted, and we set a date. Rachel is a very unique artist, and she was great to work with! I am very pleased with the end results, and would definitely recommend her if you are looking for a one of a kind tattoo. The shop was very chill, good music was playing and everyone was very friendly!  If I am back in New Orleans, I will definitely try to squeeze in another visit with Rachel. 5 stars definitely deserved! I love the idea of a tattoo museum that ALSO tattoos people! I planned a piece with Rachel on our trip to NOLA last February from Houston. We were all set to go with a gorgeous design... and then life happened and Rachel was stuck in the literal desert! I was really upset that I wouldn't be able to get work done, but then Adam stepped up and agreed to make time for me since Rachel was stuck. I had two ideas for a piece and asked Adam to draw up the other because I still want Rachel to tattoo our original idea at some point in the future. Adam was amazing. He is such a talented artist and a really fun person to talk with on top of it! I absolutely love my tattoo and plan on expanding it in the future. First and worst experience ever!!  Will not EVER be back and I'll tell you why!I would leave a lower star but I have to put 1!!I live in San Diego but I'm from about 1 1/2 hours away from New Orleans.  I had decided to get my first tattoo done while in town for a short period of time while my mom was with me.  But before I ever came down I started doing research on tattoo shops.  A friend had an awesome tattoo and recommend me to this shop.  Although I didn't want anything as extreme and just wanted a small piece I still wanted to make sure I found someone that I liked the work for.  So about 3 weeks before coming in I had reached out to Rachel we emailed back and forth several times and I was able to set up an appointment with her.  Again this being my first tattoo I was super excited but really nervous.  2 days before I was suppose to come in, I emailed her to confirm the appointment and made sure I had the right time and had a couple question.She emailed me back asking if I would be ok being put on Don Docs books because she would feel more comfortable he does script good.  So I said yes that will be fine..  I don't want anyone not comfortable who's about to tattoo me!!  This will be there forever!!  So she said he had a 3 open the next day I told her I would take it.  Rachel said thanks for being so understanding and I replied thanks for being honest with me.  See Yall at 3!So Saturday comes around. We get there at 2:30. Rachel is tattooing someone, some girls are talking with Don Doc who I now have an appointment with at 3.  We walk in no one speaks to us or even looks at us.  Not a welcoming feeling at all!  So now I am already nervous I don't feel comfortable.  So we looked around and then sat down and started looking at the look books..  20 min later still no one has spoken or looked in our direction.  So 3:00 rolls around 30 min later Don Doc walked out to grab something and I say Excuse me..  He says yes..can I help you?  Mmm yes actually I have an appointment with you at 3:00.  Mmm no you don't.  Yes Rachel told me yesterday that she put me on your books. He talked to her where we could here and she said she never heard back from me.  The last email I send was 3 sounds great see you then.    I'm confused so tell me what the problem is. I have been emailing you for more than a couple weeks why would I just not wanna come in now?? So Don Doc comes over well show me what you are looking for..  So I did.  And he just looks confused.  He proceeds to tell me well I don't have anything drawn up. It's a small cross on my wrist and some writing???  And he doesn't try to draw anything up!!  I tell him I drove almost 2 hours and came from Cali to here just so my mom could come with me.  And now Yall can't do it??  Rachel then says I'll do it.  Mmm no thanks you weren't comfortable the first time why would I want you to do it now.  So at this point I don't want either of them to touch me.. And I'm OUT!!!  Worst experience!!!People walk into tattoo shops all the time have an idea the artist draws it out and there Ya have it!!  I don't understand why he couldn't have done the same!!  I went to another tattoo shop that I had also researched walked in.  Showed the girl, she got an artist.  He came and talked to me. Drew it up and wow I loved it!!!  Everything happens for a reason!!  Love my new Tattoo and the place was nice and welcoming unlike this shop!!  I'm not one to complain often but I do feel like people need to know..  I'm a hairstylist and our work is not permanent but I feel like the atmosphere is similar!!  You need to make your clients feel welcome and comfortable. Just like people bring in pictures of tattoos and you give them your own touch, people bring in hair colors and I add my own touch!!  Just wish my first experience would have been better but at the end of the day!!  I was happy with the guy I went to at another shop!!!!
