Terrible service. Only customers in the shop and wanted a small flash piece for me and my girlfriend. 3 artists in shop and it took the female an hour to "prep" and copy a simple flash piece. Really they were tattooing each other, and making as many trips to the private back as possible while telling stories, and playing on their phones. We filled out our paperwork and it sat on the counter for the entire time, with our artist 10 feet away; never saying a word to us the entire time. Yet can sit there and play on her phone, while quoting statements in a bunch of accents in banter with the other tattoo artists tattooing each other. This happened at shop opening with no other customers ever coming in. After an hour of this we just left as they didn't even notice we were there. Worst service I've had in a tattoo shop in America. They had 3 artists available and we were the only customers for an hour and waited the entire time to be seen while they were conversing tatting each other without any contact or updates as to why we were still waiting or what was happening. I am a serious tattoo collector so I do my research prior to getting tattooed. When I first discovered this shop, I knew I had to get tattooed here. I made the two hour drive from Lafayette to check them out. As soon as I step foot in the shop, the staff was friendly and welcoming and made me feel right at home. Getting tattooed can be a nerve racking process, but the professional crew and relaxing environment helps put your mind at ease. The shop was very clean and well lit, which is what you should expect from any reputable tattoo shop, but unfortunately isn't always the case. The walls are covered in hand painted designs from the artist that actually work there, which is an anomaly this day and age, and is a clear sign of the artists skills and dedication to their craft. I would have gotten tattooed by anyone at the shop, but Dave was available the day I came in so I jumped at the opportunity. Right off the bat he was so friendly and easy going and made me feel extremely comfortable. I've come across a lot of artist with big egos and attitudes, but this was definitely not the case with Dave. He was so humble and patient with me while I was attempting to explain my vision. He was able to listen to my idea, figure out my wants and needs, discuss different options, and come up with a drawing that was far better than what I could have imagined. Once he had drawn and sized the design he was transparent with the pricing, which was very fare considering the quality of work he provides. His station and setup were clean and well organized. He demonstrated the highest standards of sterilization and precautionary measures to insure safety, which is a must when dealing with blood. During the tattoo, he made my experience as comfortable as possible and even let me take a break half way through. I have sat through 50+ hours of time under the needle and I can honestly say, Dave is one of the fastest and most efficient tattoo artists that has worked on me. It something you really appreciate when working on large detailed tattoos. My tattoo healed great and I couldn't be happier with the process or the end result. I've been back again multiple times to get tattooed by Dave and others at the shop. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking to get their first tattoo, a vacation keepsake, or a full back piece. I was really excited about Good Work Tattoo and chose to get a small design there. Several friends and acquaintances have had great work done there and Brent was specifically recommended to me. I went to Brent for a small Jean Michel Basquiat crown and he offered to do it then and there. The tattoo was done within an hour and he said there was an issue with the needle he was using and had to change it midway through the design.The design looked good initially, but twelve hours later the design and area around it were terribly sore and very warm. I went to the doctor less than 24 hours after Brent tattooed me and was told the tattoo was infected. After three days of antibiotics, I had a fever, the tattoo was eating my skin away, and I had to go to the hospital. I've been being tattooed for over ten years and take aftercare very seriously; for my tattoo to be infected as soon as it was on me is so disappointing. Its been over six weeks since I received this tattoo and it's finally healed enough so that I can go to another artist to fix it. I really wanted to like this shop, but unfortunately it was a terrible experience. Read Less

This is the premiere shop in New Orleans for American and Japanese traditional tattooing.The owner and hometown hero, David Noellert, has put together an all-star team of four tattooers including himself.  Noellert is known the world over for Japanese traditional tattooing although his American traditional work is just as strong.  I have a piece from Noellert, multiple pieces from Brent Mccarron, and am looking forward to getting tattooed by Chris Blanchard and Ert DiRosa.  These guys are about as clean as they come and are all super nice and professional to boot.Bywater as well as New Orleans has been missing a shop like this for years. We came for a bachelorette party and a tentative schedule. Somehow they made it happen. Talk about place that is easy to work with. The owner walked in and saw our crunch for time and squeezed in another of us. We had some more willing broads than we had planned for. NOLA... right? Stuff happens. Out of all the things I miss about New Orleans, Uptown Tattoos is definitely at the top of the list. I moved away about a year ago, but I still recommend Dave Hood to my friends in the area. I don't think I've ever trusted a tattoo artist more to listen to my ideas and draw up something about ten times cooler than I could have pictured. Dave Hood did some sleeve work on my arm, and the intricate detailing of a Da Vinci drawing he tattooed is seriously some of the best work I've seen. Been there three times already. Everyone that comes into town to visit and is looking to get one, I take them there. Really clean, nice guys, and they are very easy to work with. I have 4 prior tattoos, and by far this is the WORST experience of all 5 total. I looked up reviews on this shop and my friend and I decided to go there during our vacation to NOLA to get matching tattoos that we have been planning for awhile now. We are both in our 30s and 40s and are very experienced with tattoos. The artist, Chris, did both of our tattoos and unfortunately cut too deep (worked it too much) on mine and now it is having a very hard time healing. My friend is also unhappy with her as his hand was shaking and one line appears to be crooked. We will both have to get them re-done, and seeing as though we already paid $80 for a very small tattoo, this is very frustrating. Additionally, I am going to have to go to the doctor to get antibiotics to heal the deep wounds. I attached a picture where you can see the deep cuts. The ink will not show up over the scars that will be created once it heals. I suggest using another shop and at the very least another artist! Read Less

So, the story is...I had a large tribal back piece that was a beautiful design, but a really poor execution and I wanted it fixed. Heard that Eye Candy on Magazine was supposed to be one of the best, so went to talk to them. The owner gave me a pile of attitude, didn't want to do it because he found "tribal boring", but recommended me to Dave Noellert at Uptown. Thank you asshole tattoo guy!Because Dave is made of unicorns covered in awesome sauce! Dave probably thanks you too, because we loved him and his work so much, my boyfriend at the time and I spent a substantial amount of money there. He fixed my back piece, put a full sleeve of gorgeous Japanese on my right arm, a half sleeve of Northwest Indian design on my left, put another Japanese sleeve on my boyfriend at the time, and turned his already existing tribal on the other arm into a full sleeve. And it's all aged beautifully. If I still lived in NOLA, I'd still be going there. Alas, I moved away. But I'd recommend anyone who wants ink in or near that city to go to Uptown. Super friendly, competitive pricing, and SERIOUS talent. I loved these guys so much I started cooking them meals whenever I  came in. That's some love, right there. Read Less

I am new to New Orleans, and had gotten all my previous tattoos done in NYC. Someone recommended I go to Uptown Tattoos...and I am SO GLAD I DID! Kenny was a guest artist..and he was AMAZING. I got my last name written on my ribs and was worried because words are more difficult due to the straight lines. Straight lines on ribs and curves is no easy task. Best place in town, one of only a few I fully trust with my body and what is permanently added to it. Owner/artist Dave Noellert started work on a cover job from a poor choice many years ago, a very large poor choice with colors and design that I doubted anyone could do anything with (think neon dragon). Mr. Noellert spent an hour with me discussing interest and ideas, going through his art, etc, until we got a vibe, then he designed a custom piece for me that never fails to grab lot of attention and we are only half way done! I can be somewhat cavalier with my food, but a tattoo shop could be a last memory or a lifetime of hepatitis C. UPT made a point of showing me their procedures and equipment before hand and didn't take offence when asked. Also showed ink without issue so I was assured no Chinese made industrial ink with who knows what was being used. In the end I placed my trust and have been (and hope to continue to be) well rewarded with more great work/memories. Also, the shop has a barbeque and music on occasion, really very friendly people. I saw the  oe star from Megan, so I looked at her profile, and maybe she was treated with a cold shoulder, probably less to do with her being a first timer, than her choice of posted items like confederate flag and lyndard synard. That is purely conjecture, even the best places have down days, but this is your skin, own it, research, but looking over some profiles I have no doubt I would take no interest (and garner 1 star reviews) from some people whose patronage one could do without. I gets my shit done here. Talk to the clerk at the desk, fill out your form, figure out wtf you want, go grab a few drinks at Cooter Browns next door to calm yourself down and come get your ink. I'm still in the process of finishing my back piece from here. So many long hours of laying still, I learned to bring a pillow.. sometimes a blanket to cover up in.
