Randomly decided I was ready for my first tattoo. I've been watching Gretchen's work for a long time. I contacted her by email with several questions and she was very helpful. When the day came I didn't make an appointment but I was the first to sign up and she called me when her appointment was over. I showed up and had lost my drivers license. She was very patient with me while I went home and grabbed it. She was very reassuring that the pain wasn't going to be that bad. She let me know to let her know if I needed her to stop at any time. So professional and clean. I can't wait to get my next one!! Highly recommend Gretchen and tattoo Charlie's in PRP on Dixie Highway!

I got an evil eye tattoo a few weeks ago here and Ive noticed some things a bit...off. Firstly its a simple tat with straight, bold lines. Seven lashes on top and bottom and a nice big, bold blue eye staring at ya. Anywho, Its just that the lines for the top lashes are all off. The middle one was supposed to be the longest whilst the three on each side being shorter and were not to be joined to the eye itself but some do. The far right lash is way long but the furthest left one is the shortest. Anyway, my only other concern is some extra lines from the needle trailing too far other wise the bottom lines are damn near perfect. Well thats all i got on that; the shop itself was welcoming and informative as it was supposed to be a cover up but i came to understand why it couldn't be. Id still come back though, i already got another tat in mind!

I've always wanted to get a tattoo from Tattoo Charlies's. It was also recommended by a good friend who got a tattoo there already. I made the appt. Gretchen about 2 weeks in advance, paid the $'s to reserve my spot and sent a jpeg of the tattoo I wanted and where I wanted it.
Today was the day, had to take a vacation day and drive 2 hours to Louisville. We get there at 11:45AM and walked in and was told we had to leave due to a rule that no one could be in the shop until 12 noon on the dot. Okay, seemed a bit strange, so we went back to our car and waited.
We go in and do the paperwork and while Gretchen is helping some other people I noticed something was wrong with the art she was going to use for my tattoo. It was backwards. I asked about it and she said it was Tattoo Taboo to put a tattoo on that's facing backwards. And I'm okay with that, but why wasn't I told during the two weeks prior before coming up there?
I was absolutely upset and didn't understand why there had been no communication from Gretchen regarding this issue. She just made up her mind that this was how it was going to be without consulting the client/customer. Don't get me wrong, I researched her work and chose her specifically, but felt I wasn't given any type of choice whatsoever and she could decide how it was going to be on my body.
The tattoo was to be a Scottish Clan Crest, and those of you who are Scottish, would you want your clan crest changed because it's supposed to be tattoo taboo?
There were other things wrong with the wording that was chosen above what I had sent in and some things deleted without consulting me.
Again, Gretchen's work on other people looks great and is a reason I chose her. But the level of customer service I received today was unacceptable and I will let anyone know regarding getting a tattoo at the Dixie Hwy parlor.
Again I'm fine with the tattoo taboo, but I was not consulted before hand. I was even tried to be persuaded to put in/on a place I didn't want it just so the helmet on the crest would be facing forward.
Needless to say, I lost a days vacation and a tank of gas to get not get the tattoo I wanted and didn't even get my $100 back.
I will continue to go to Tai Orten at Alchemy Nashville for future tattoos and stay clear of Tattoo Charlie's.
Once again, it's okay if there is a Tattoo Taboo regarding direction. But letting the customer know before investing so much time and effort would be beneficial.

This was just a really bad experience! A friend suggested that I get my nipples pierced because I have problems with my breast and don't like them, I figured it would be a great solution verses the breast augmentation I've been considering. There's nothing that sucks more than you doing something to make you feel better about yourself just to walk away feeling worse😭. Gretchen did my nipple piercings and ended up doing my right nipple TWICE! I went back the next day to see if she could finally get it right and she told me that it turned out the way it did because of my anatomy🤔. I don't have inverted nipples an they're the same in size. I normally do my own piercings and have been doing so for the past 12years however I felt someone else doing my nipples would turn out better because of their view, NOPE WRONG. I ended up going home and using my own sterile equipment and needles and redid it myself. Turns out I know more about anatomy than people who get paid to. I definitely will not be going back nor would I recommend my family or friends. I have been using Tattoo Charlies in PRP for many years. They are very professional and the studio is as clean as I have ever seen. When you talk to the artist you will be amazed to see they tattoo for that art of it, Not the Money! Big difference when the artist actually cares what you get and the fact it fits you! If you want a tattoo this is the one place you need to check out before you let anyone else just stick you with a needle!

I have 4 tattoos, all done at either this location, or the Preston location. My latest, most badass tattoo was done by Ian, and he seemed as excited to do it as I was to get it. I've had my one of a kind pin up girl for about 6 months now, and she looks just as clean as if I'd gotten her done a couple weeks ago. Price was fair for the work done, and always has been. My daughter and mother both have tattoos done by Gretchen, and theirs also look amazing. Will be back, just as soon as I find my next design!

Tattoo Charlie's in PRP is the only place that I'll allow to do my body art. Most of my tattoos are done by Jeremiah. His work is phenomenal. He is such a creative artist. If you tell him your ideas, his twisted genius will create a tattoo unique just to you. I sit for multiple hours for each session and he immediately puts you at ease with an easy banter. I feel he can sense when the pain is getting the best of you and will distract you with his infectious laugh. Gretchen ...did my monroe a few years back. She is professional and fast. She is also very thorough with her follow up instructions. The entire staff at Charlie's is personable and friendly. They follow every guideline and law there is where others do not. I've gotten every one of my tattoos from Tattoo Charlie's - that's been a family owned business forever - and I'm proud to tell everyone where I got them. Every employee at Tattoo Charlie's will come to assist you with any questions. I love how they will help with the designs, the placement, etc. Quality all around. I've also gotten the BEST piercings from Tattoo Charlie's. They don't just do tattoos, they also do piercings! Go there. Seriously. You will not be disappointed.

There's nothing that sucks more than you doing something to make you feel better about yourself just to walk away feeling worse😭. Gretchen did my nipple piercings and ended up doing my right nipple TWICE! I went back the next day to see if she could finally get it right and she told me that it turned out the way it did because of my anatomy🤔. I don't have inverted nipples an they're the same in size. I normally do my own piercings and have been doing so for the past 12years however I felt someone else doing my nipples would turn out better because of their view, NOPE WRONG. I ended up going home and using my own sterile equipment and needles and redid it myself. Turns out I know more about anatomy than people who get paid to. I definitely will not be going back nor would I recommend my family or friends. Maybe they do better with some people 🤷🏽, however I know my experience was just all bad
Message to owner: anatomy obviously didn't play as big of a part as one wanted me to believe ESPECIALLY SINCE ITS NOW PIERCED THE CORRECT WAY FROM SOMEONE WITH LESS EXPERIENCE THAN SOMEONE WITH 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE. I'm sorry I made the mistake of visiting your shop as well

I have been using Tattoo Charlies in PRP for many years. They are very professional and the studio is as clean as I have ever seen. When you talk to the artist you will be amazed to see they tattoo for that art of it, Not the Money! Big difference when the artist actually cares what you get and the fact it fits you! If you want a tattoo this is the one place you need to check out before you let anyone else just stick you with a needle!

I have 4 tattoos, all done at either this location, or the Preston location. My latest, most badass tattoo was done by Ian, and he seemed as excited to do it as I was to get it. I've had my one of a kind pin up girl for about 6 months now, and she looks just as clean as if I'd gotten her done a couple weeks ago. Price was fair for the work done, and always has been. My daughter and mother both have tattoos done by Gretchen, and theirs also look amazing. Will be back, just as soon as I find my next design!

(And that matters when you're sitting there for hours at a time!) Jeremiah is not just a good artist, but he is a great person. Tattoo Charlie's in PRP is the only place that I'll allow to do my body art. Most of my tattoos are done by Jeremiah. His work is phenomenal. He is such a creative artist. If you tell him your ideas, his twisted genius will create a tattoo unique just to you. I sit for multiple hours for each session and he immediately puts you at ease with an easy banter. I feel he can sense when the pain is getting the best of you and will distract you with his infectious laugh. Gretchen ...did my monroe a few years back. She is professional and fast. She is also very thorough with her follow up instructions. The entire staff at Charlie's is personable and friendly. I've gotten every one of my tattoos from Tattoo Charlie's - that's been a family owned business forever - and I'm proud to tell everyone where I got them. Every employee at Tattoo Charlie's will come to assist you with any questions. I love how they will help with the designs, the placement, etc. Quality all around. I've also gotten the BEST piercings from Tattoo Charlie's. They don't just do tattoos, they also do piercings! Go there. Seriously. You will not be disappointed.
