I went up to get pierced yesterday and the wait was a bit, but totally worth it. Darlene was my piercer and was as sweet as could be, she talked to me the whole time and it hurt a whole lot less than I originally thought. I will definitely be going back for my future piercings. Read Less

I came in here today to have the top on my surface anchor changed and the piercer, I believe her name was Darlene, was very rude and made me feel uncomfortable. The whole time she was talking to me she had a bad attitude. I asked her if she had any opals by the brand Anatometal. She brings me out some and tells me they are by Anatometal and Neometal which does not make any sense. She takes me back to the piercing room and just reaches up and touches by surface anchor with no gloves on after she just handled money which is not acceptable. Touching a piercing or surface anchor is the number one way to cause infection. A professional body piercer should know that. The biggest thing that turned me off to letting her do anything was, she was about to change the top on my surface anchor without sterilizing the top. Was visiting from California , my sister in law recommended this place and I truly regret that now . I have to get my tattoo fixed somewhere else out here . I wanted a simple rose on my arm . Big Dave printed out the rose exactly how I wanted it but completely ignored how the lines went. Some that were suppose to have a wiggle to them are straight not to mention when I looked closer it looked sooooo bad there was ink missing from a spot . When I called back to see if they could fix it the girl at the counter told me I needed to wait more mine you it was already the 3rd week . I explained to her ink was not going to grow magically on my arm she said it was because it wasn't done healing . Welp here I am going to another shop getting it fixed because just like I said the ink is horrible everyone compliments my husbands tattoo being the same as mine who  was done by the same guy . I cannot believe this is really how they treated a costumer and just brushed it off like it was no big deal . I wanted something meaningful for my marriage and well done . I got my first tattoo here when I was 18 and they made it such a great experience. Everything was clean and neat. My fiancee just got our daughters name on his arm from here about a year ago. It turned out so beautiful. I will be coming soon to get a tattoo for my daughter as well. I got the most beautiful watercolor tattoo from Elli! I showed her the design I wanted to base it off of, and she made adjustments for sizing and placement and added to it, so what I ended up with went far above my expectations. It was the longest session I've ever had, but she made sure I had plenty of breaks when needed and she kept up great conversation the whole. I’ve been to this location now three times. I’ve gotten two tattoos and one nose piercing. I’ve brought my sister along for a piercing and tat as well, and we’ve both been happy with the service we’ve received. Joel is super nice. Like I truly appreciate his patience. He doesn’t make you feel bad about moving things around a bunch. He wanted to make sure that you’re 100% happy with what you’re getting. He even picked up on stuff I didn’t notice at first glance and it took upon himself to make adjustments before beginning the tat. Look I work in customer service and have had to deal with the rude customers who over exaggerate and don't tell the full story. I'm honestly only writing this review to try and help the owner understand why my fiance and I turned right back out the door and didn't get our tattoos. I understand it's the busy season for ya'll because of taxes and what not. And walk in availability is slim. I do not know who the man was at the counter that we talked to. But he was extremely rude to both of us. I have 10 tattoos. I'm not new to getting ink. I don't claim to be as knowledgeable as any artist out there but I understand the basics. With that said he treated us like we were complete idiots about what we were asking. All I wanted was a penny and Roman numerals. All my fiance wanted was 2 words in calligraphy style on his wrist. We were told no. It's not possible. The sizing had to be huge. And it would be expensive. "it just won't be doable. Because you can't paint the Mona Lisa and size it down." now we understand about detail. And we understand it needs to be a certain size for whatever kind of detail or lack thereof you're looking for. But, good lord, this guy didn't even give us a chance to explain what we really wanted. He just said no. It wasn't possible. Honestly it's a shame because I walked through these doors when I was 18 to get a tattoo and they were rude then and I thought it might be different 9 years down the road. Whitney pierced my outer helix on 2/21 (my first cartilage piercing) and did a wonderful job! I know she was booked that afternoon, but she never rushed. She was personable and knowledgeable, and I'm grateful she took so much time to explain not only the piercing process and aftercare, but how the jewelry worked as well. Everything was sterile and she made sure it stayed that way (my husband is an ICU nurse and went with me that day. He even remarked as we were leaving, "I was really impressed with her sterile technique."). I am a little more than disappointed to say the least. I have tried to be more than patient when trying to get some work done. I have for years stated I wouldn't go to Charlies for tattoos as I had some issues with them in the late 90's. But days are new, and people and businesses changed. I personally visited the shop twice to see a piercer, and to talk to Elli about a tattoo that's very important to me. Both times she wasn't there, but to be fair; calling before hand proba...bly would have saved me the time. I stopped in for the 3rd time on 2/07, and did get a moment with her in between a session. She asked that I put the images into an email and send them to her.. I did that on 2/09... I waited.. Checked my email.. Found on the next week that she had been out a day for being sick. Everyone has been sick, including myself, and co-workers so no issue. I wouldn't want anyone working that close to me with an open wound (fresh tattoo) either. I waited until the following Friday 2/16, figuring that she was probably trying to get caught up.. I called on 2/16 to make sure my email came in. The woman that answered talked to her, and ensured that she had received it. Elli told her to tell me, she got it, and she'd get back to me that night. No reply from her until Sunday 2/18... In which she shortly said I needed to get back with her about where I wanted it as that would determine size to allow for detail. I answered a hour or 2 later, and didn't get a reply until today.. 2 weeks later... "Currently I am booked into Mid-March. I really advise you to simplify this concept. You can email any additional reference images." ...... Two weeks? Now I fully understand its tax season.. I get it's busy.. But, two weeks and you can't even take the time to call me, ask me to stop in to go over any kind of concept.. I was clear that I had several ideas, but was open to suggestion, as I didn't know how to make this cohesive... Two weeks.. And all you have for me is that your booked almost thru march. What a waste of time.. It's a damn shame that people can't take the time to be more personable. I work with customers all day long, and you have to take time to make money even when you're busy. I just don't think its good business to be this evasive with a customer, and then put it off on them. I came to a professional seeking her advise.. I appreciate honesty.. I had my tattoo today with Pike. Originally, I inquired a few months ago with Buddy and sent pictures for a rough quote. He was very prompt and friendly throughout the process. There was a slight misunderstanding about my mom calling to pay partial payment over the phone from another state, but I wasn’t upset on how it was handled and I understand their points about security and valid identity. My design was perfect, I loved the stencil and placement. I enjoyed talking to the staff and even meeting Buddy briefly on his birthday today. Ultimately, I love my tattoo and have another session planned to finish it. I’m also recommending my family members to schedule appointments. This place is a Louisville landmark. Basically one of the most, if not the most well known tattoo shop in Louisville.Came here a while back to get a cat tattoo on my arm in honor of my 15 year old cat. I had the basic idea and design of what I wanted but it needed some alterations. Was my first tattoo so wasn't sure how this worked. Tattoo Charlie's was easy to get in touch with and pretty good at walking me through process. Came in early morning no appointment, signed in and a while later was able to work with tattoo artist on design alteration. Tattoo artist drew up an alteration that was exactly what I wanted. They have so many tattoo ideas set up to go through while you wait (sometimes the wait can be a while), and they have piercings in a glass counter to look at, along with the artists' portfolios, so you know they do the kind of work you're wanting and if you like it. I've gotten all my piercings here, and my brother and sister-in-law have gotten their piercings and tattoos here and highly recommend it. The piercers and tattoo artists make you feel as comfortable as they can and try to make the fact that they're shoving a needle into your skin as painless as possible; they go over after care with you and give brochures, pamphlets, their phone number for questions, and the cleaner needed for your wound. This my first and last Tattoo Shop that I will ever use.  I did alot of browsing different shops, but still came back to the first place I went.  The shop is super clean, and the staff were amazing.This is my 5th Tattoo from them (But I think when its done, I can honestly say I got 1 big ass tattoo)  Lucky is very experienced and does phoenominal work!  He takes pride in his work and it most definitely shows.If i had to point out a downside it would be that wait.  The artists are so talented and popular, getting a walk-in is very difficult which is where I see majority of low reviews.  And I have been very impatient waiting for nearly 3 months to get my next session in.  But in reality I wouldnt want it any other way.   You pick an artist based on their style and quality.  If you are just walking in and dont care about who does it, in my humble opinion you probably havent given it much thought.  The artists here are all top quality, with repetitous patrons, so drop ins will have a hard time finding their place.   Research the styles, talk to the artist and get your name scheduled in their book.  Dont be lazy... put your piece of the work in and you will be rwarded with an A+++ piece of work!Next full day is less than 2 weeks away, and I cant wait! Because of my profession, only an intimate tattoo is accepted. A few have white ink tattoos, and I liked the idea.I went to the Okolona location on Preston Highway. The man in the far left stall was very vocal, standing up to announce to not only myself, but also the 3 other customers in the store. He explained, “We do not do white ink. We do not believe in an intimate tattoo. We want your tattoo to stand out and say Tattoo Charlies.” Apparently my business is not welcome there.When I say Semper Fidelis, it is to my fellow service women and men and those who stand behind them. I'm on a quest. My quest is to get a tattoo in all 50 states. Last weekend (09/21/2014), I was in Kentucky with the parents-in-law and my wife for the bourbon festival in Bardstown. As I currently only have 3 states down, I was excited to get my 4th.It's always a crapshoot when you're getting a tattoo out of town. You never really know what to expect. It can be a scary experience. Thankfully, Yelp has never really led me astray.I strolled in on Sunday around 10:30 A.M. I was pleasantly surprised with how clean everything was. It was well lit, there was a water cooler, the booths looked clean and professional. So far so good. I talked with Dave about what I wanted. I then emailed him the pictures of what I was trying to do, and he got to work.About 15-20 minutes later, we got down to business, Dave was professional, friendly, well versed in many topics of discussion, and, most importantly, a skilled artist. There was an obvious emphasis on making sure that everything was clean and sterile. The hours ticked by and we had good conversations about a wide range of topics. Before I knew it, it was over, and I had a fresh, badass tattoo. Even after the inking, everything was great. I got a fresh tin of lotion, comprehensive care instructions, and Dave's card in case anything went wrong.All-in-all, my experience was outstanding. I've gotten 4 tattoos from across the country (Chicago, Knoxville, Jacksonville, and Louisville), and this is the only studio that's impressed me enough to write a review.These guys are top notch, and I'd recommend them to anyone. Stopped in a few days ago and wanted to go over my tattoo idea. The gentleman I spoke with seemed to have no desire to talk about it or even discuss how he would be doing it. He did nothing at all to make me remotely confident in his ability. The one thing he did keep asking was "when do you want to do this...we can do it right now". It was my first time in the Okolona shop and will be my last. This certainly did not live up to the experiences I had heard about. Tattoo Charlies PRP however is a totally different story. My new tattoo has a very special meaning to me. I had been planning my tattoo for almost a year,a lot of thinking went into it. It had to be perfect and get my message across to my parent's. I decided on what I wanted but couldn't find the right person to do it. After asking around, a friend suggested Joel. Joel had done a lot of work for him and his work was great. When I showed Joel what I wanted he wasn't sure it could be done the way I wanted due to the size and amount of words I wanted, he thought words would run into each other. I love high class body jewelry & no one close to me had near the selection or prices that I found here. I ordered an Industrial Strength opal septum clicker & was told it would arrive the first week in August. It got there almost 2 weeks early. He even shipped it overnight for me because of some delays, that's amazing customer service!!! My clicker is purple titanium with lime green opals and its stunning! There are so many greedy sellers out there overcharging for body jewelry, especially septum clickers, I've seen them for over $200+ but not here. I will definitely be back for more from Buddy. I'm just giving two stars. I do however have two foot tattoos that I got done here years ago and it is pretty good but my artist didn't seem very friendly. I figured since I got my first tattoos there that I would get another with them Sunday. Even though my other artist wasn't a talker he did a good job. I got there and they said 1 1/2 hour. Ok. Leave, go get a few things and call. Its been about that long. She then says 2 hours. You freaking kidding me right. I live all the way in IN. Came to them for my tattoo when I could have been driving home. So, I spent time with friends and waited the next 2 hours. I get a call and miss it then call them right back. She proceeds to tell me that he may be able to do it at 11:00PM!!!!!!! Then she says but she is not for sure! Really?!?! Want me to stay over here all effing night. Whatever. Very disrespectful. I get tattoos that have meaning to and they mean a lot. I went elsewhere and am so happy with the work done. Read Less

I got my 9th tattoo with Eric at the original location before they moved (they're no longer at Berry) and had a very pleasant experience.  From looking at his and others' portfolios, this is a good place to get your custom work done for sure.  My tattoo looks fantastic (it's about 6 months old now) and I'll definitely go back to get some more in the future.  The only thing I will do differently is to use my own A&D instead of the lotion they provide as they give it to you in a little pill bottle (so cute, right?) that pops open in the pocket of your dress at the wedding you're photographing later that weekend, getting all over your lens cap, and you'd think that would change your mind about throwing the remaining bottle full back into your purse because it might just get all over everything else you own, but you throw caution to the wind only to have the wind change and throw caution right back at you as you later find all your cash to be quite slippery and moisturized and smelling quite nice because the cap to the lotion pill bottle just doesn't like to stay on.Not that any of that happened to me.  At all.Good tattoos.  Great conversation.
