I've gotten a piece from Brenna and Scott. Both artists were exceptional. Brenna is so talented and sweet, she will make a two hour sit feel like 10 minutes. Scott is incredible. He did a pretty large piece for me, we sat for a little more than 5 hours, and he and I had some of the coolest and most down to earth conversations I've ever had. After that I knew I wanted a full sleeve of his work. Every artist in the shop is unique. You'll get what you want at Charmed Life. Read Less

Really bad experience here. Let Matt do my tattoo without having seen any of his work (he has no portfolio on their website) and dude straight butchered it. Very rushed, sloppy detail, crooked lines, no original reference once template was made, and just an overall totally sloppy and half assed job. Nothing like the tattoo I wanted. Had to go to Castle of Color and let them fix it the best they could. I'll give them a two star since I should have looked at some of his work first. Otherwise it's a definite one star, horrible globs of permanant ink on my arm. I let Matt do it based on Charmed life's reputation but was a total disaster. Thanks to Castle of Color for making it look semi presentable. I'll go there from now on for all my future work. Read Less

My artist was Matt. He’s a good guy and handles business professionally. Probably could have done a better job on my tat though. Color is good. Decent lines. Facility is pretty clean and organized. Just felt like the job done was lazy and rushed. Artist didn’t reference picture once after transferring to template. Template started to smear during the outline but artist didn’t reference pic and kinda winged it after the start. Looks about 75-80% of what I wanted in the pic. The mistakes aren’t huge but definitely noticeable. I would give Charmed life another visit but would probably chose a different artist. At least an artist with a portfolio available online. I was tattoo'ed by a guest artist named Joe Morris. He was awesome. He was extremely professional and did a touch up job in addition to the tattoos we were scheduled to do.  He was friendly, engaging and offered great advice regarding placement and size of the simple line tattoo I wanted. The show itself has an old-school tattoo parlor vibe to it. There are traditional style tattoo art along the walls and several stations. They seemed to accept walk-ins along with appointments.  I enjoyed my experience here more than the previous tattoo places I have been. I was visited by Brenna Flannery, while visiting for a few days and she was not only an amazing artist, her passion and attitude for tattooing just made me feel instantly at home! Even cooler she managed to sneak me in even with a busy weekend on short notice! I got my first tattoo on Saturday afternoon, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I came to Charmed Life in particular because it was difficult to find an artist who would willingly tattoo someone with moderate cerebral palsy, like me. The shop itself was incredibly accessible, with great staff and an at-home feel. I was able to stay in my wheelchair for my shoulder tat, and Scott made sure to go slow with the needle so as not to induce any involuntary reflexes. This helped immensely along with having someone brace me for the duration of the session. Read Less

Scott did a great job on my first tattoo, charged a good price, and was very accommodating. I brought him a reference picture and he put his own spin on it and made the real thing look so much better. He got it done in just a little more than an hour and then I was on my way. My artist was Brenna. She did an amazing job. Very professional and helpful. I will only ever let her do any other tattoos on me. And no matter how good she is shes constantly trying to improve her skill. I cant wait for my second art piece with her. As for the environment, there are tons of artwork on along the walls. The people are super kind and everyone is supportive of what ever art style you choose. The artist are also honest. While I am sure there are lots of talented artists out there, I'm pretty sure Scott is the only one I'll be letting ink me anytime soon. Between his natural talent, painstaking effort, and quiet intelligence, he makes the whole process relaxed and pretty darn painless. I have been going to this shop for years.  All the artist are true artists, they all paint, draw, and create art in multiple medias.  I have been tattooed by all the artist in the shop and have always been happy with the work.  There are no stupid flip charts of tattoos, all tattoos are original designs for you.  They always have guest artists in from out of town as well.  This is a great shop.  Best in Lexington by far.  I have probably referred over ten different people here and NO ONE has been dissatisfied. I get most of my tattoos from Scott Updike. He is not just a tattoo artist, but he is an actual artist. I have commissioned him to do a painting for my husband for christmas. He has this beautiful old skool style and amazing use of colors.Robert is also amazing. He remembers tattoos he worked on decades ago. Seriously, he remembers doing one of my husband's first tattoos that he got in the early 2000's. Oh and he does really good work. Check out their portfolios!As for the shop, I know they use clean packaged needles (you can watch them open the package). While they do have flash you can pick and stick, they mostly do custom work.  It's in a cool section of town and the exposed brick on the inside is beautiful. My problem is all the scary taxidermy animals in bathroom. They tend to scare the pee out me me. Way to be creepy, guys. I love the artists here.
