Now, I'm not exactly a noob when it comes to ink, having had one for over 10 years, but when it came time to add a couple to honor my late wife, Toppers seemed to be the place to go. Ben did a great job explaining their process and, fortunately, his schedule was open when I decided to walk in. I emailed him a file with my art ideas, one being an actual handwriting sample from my wife and he wasted little time getting started. Honestly, the whole process was painless (Yeah, I know, tattoos painless? Wtf?) but had I not had a few small pieces being worked on and had something more complex, I might have gone to sleep on the chair. Well I just wanna say I went to topper himself to get a tattoo and I've heard good and bad about him. So when I go in I wait for a few hours before even starting the tattoo so expect to wait. He was very rude to me when I ask about an apprenticeship and blew it off like he didn't care like no encouragement what so ever he's an artist and so am I and we're suppose to support and help each other strive and achieve goals that we set before ourselves and he drove it right into the ground. Now about the work he has a light hand and if you don't want the pain that's a good thing but if you want a tattoo that will last and stay you really need to be a little heavier on the needle just so the ink stays. My tattoo i received from him ive had to have redone twice now. I havent even had the tattoo for a year yet. I wasn't as comfortable as I would've liked to been and he really didn't give me much of a selection on what I wanted it. In the past year, Ben has done 12 different pieces for me, Topper has done one, and Carolynne has matched her hubby's work on my other shoulder. Love every time I go in, the folks are friendly, the artwork is fantastic, and the price. . .lets just say they wind up with a hell of a tip because the work is worth a lot more to me than their prices. Took my daughter for her first one there, and have several more on the list to go when they get the time. If your wanting ink, either new or recolor, these folks will make you happy, even more so with every compliment you git. Got a conch piercing done today, and was very happy with the results. The whole crew was very nice and welcoming, and the shop was super eclectic while still being very clean. Piercing was quick and practically painless, and a very reasonable price. The only thing I would have liked is more range of jewelry options, but the piercers were great! Read Less

Josh did an amazing job with the cover up tattoo on my left hand. It was the only tattoo I had done outside of TFLT, a mistake I won't make a second time. Of the 3 tattoos I now have, not counting the one that was covered, they were all done at Topper's. They only tattoo parlor I will go from here on out. Read Less

I stopped in without an appointment on a Monday afternoon at Topper's and was fortunate to meet Ben Starks. Ben is usually at Topper's in Bowling Green, KY, but was doing a guest spot in Clarksville. About the shop (Clarksville):Each station looked clean and the shop was quiet (when I was there).About Ben:Very talented artist. Took the time to look at my sketch and discussed his ideas with me. Drew a more "tattoo-friendly" version of my design and quoted me an excellent price. He's an honest and down-to-earth guy, who shared a lot about himself while tattooing me and made me feel incredibly comfortable. Pricing/Quality:Very fair--hourly rate was about $100. My husband got a small tat on his calf for $80. Quality of Ben's work definitely exceeded my expectations. I am constantly getting compliments on my ink when it's visible.
