I was going to wait until I finished my half sleeve, but FB asked if I wanted to post a review so here we go! I've had two sessions so far with Tim Phelps and he is great to work with! Very quiet, professional, and patient. We spent 3 hours last night going back and forth drawing out what I wanted, placing the stencil, removing the stencil, starting over, redrawing, and making changes. Tim never got pissed and kept repeating that it's my arm and my tattoo. This shows the l...evel of his professionalism. He's not going to just slap something on you. I love this place. It is very professional and clean. The people are extremely helpful and nice and they will also tell you how it is! All people cannot get what they want. They are honest and forthcoming and are not just about taking your money. They take pride in their work and will not "just do a piercing or tattoo" because you will give them more money. And believe it or not that is a good and actually professional thing! ... All people cannot get certain piercings for various reasons. Such as the anatomy of each individual ear or your job or occupation and the required healing time. I got 2 daiths here and 2 helix's and 1 nostril and 2 inner conch's. My daughter got 1 nostril and 1 helix here and a repiercing of a nostril (pierced elsewhere that had fell out and closed)! Neither of us have had any issues with any of our piercings from this establishment or the staff! This place is top notch clean and very aseptic for piercings! I personally will not go anywhere else now! Mrs. Pepper is great! I am an RN and I give her props! Her technique is awesome! And I am very picky. I was anxious and she talked to me and calmed me. And she was super nice and did not rush me either! And that made my experiences less stressful. I was very nervous with the first daith and conch! But she did an awesome job! Pepper was amazing. While I'm sure my facial expressions upon piercing looked like a massive pile of cringe, I am so pleased with the outcome of my septum piercing. I went here for a tattoo on my neck. Don't. recommend. Someone go here unless they want to be told how to do the tattoo.If you only want color and no black this place will refuse. I had such a bad migraine when I went in that I was seriously considering going to the ER, but within 5 minutes of the piercing being done my pain level was down to a 6 out of 10. I've been wanting a tattoo since I was 18, but always worked in medical field. This year I said screw and started working on sleeves. I went to all the shops in BG to scope the place and talk to people. This is the only place that was clean, friendly, and willing to get you scheduled. Jessica has done 4 major pieces to my sleeve in 2 weeks. She seems pretty passionate about what she does, she is very picky (which is a good thing), and always exceeds what I'm envisioning. I'm 57 and have considered a tattoo for a long time. I kept putting it off, nerves, would it be messed up topped my reasons for not doing it. I became Facebook friends with Devon and seeing her posts I felt a trust with someone I hadn't even met. After having to reschedule half a dozen times, I finally got up there yesterday, driving from Nashville. Where do I begin?! I’ve been getting tattooed since I was 17 (now 35). I’ve had a couple of scratchers as well as some pretty decent artists, but I had never found the artist that I was willing to let do some larger pieces like I wanted. Five years ago (that long, really?!) at the D.C. Tattoo Expo, I was looking to get another relatively smaller tattoo- portrait style of a bat, and I stumbled across Tim’s booth. His portfolio proved that he was able to do what I was asking fo...r, and he did not disappoint in action. My friends and I loved the tattoo so much that we have pretty much booked his booth every year since then. For people who have standards on what is getting put on their body, finding the right artist is well worth the wait, and he was the one I was willing to let do the tattoos I had been wanting. Tim far exceeds even my standards with his creativity, versatility, and raw artistic ability to do any style of tattoo that you could ask for. Not only is he truly an artist (not just a tattooer), but he works quickly and the prices are more than fair. For me, the next year he did a great cover-up of one of the previously mentioned scratcher tattoos. The year following, I let him do one of his original works on my thigh. That in itself says something, because I often put a lot of (over)thought and meaning into what I’m getting tattooed. I like his work so much that I was happy to have one of his originals without much forethought. That same year he did a portrait of Gene Kelly for my wife, which won the awards for both ‘Tattoo of the day’ and ‘Best in show’. The two years following that he has been working on my back piece, a free-handed work of Alice through the rabbit hole. One more session until completion, although it already looks like a masterpiece, and then I already have more ideas for him. All the while in these last several years, I’ve had a growing group of my friends become fans and loyalist to his work as well, and he has worked on them when he is not working on my wife and I at the convention. Last year for our 10th wedding anniversary, Melissa and I went all the way to Kentucky to get a piece in honor of the occasion, and to finally see the Age of Reason shop. It was probably the most beautiful shop that I have ever been in. Very clean, warm and inviting, and really had more of an art studio vibe than a tattoo shop. I know I’m a little long-winded here, but I can’t mention Tim and Age of Reason without giving great kudos to his crafty wife, piercer, and business woman, Pepper. She is an all around fun lady, and always there to talk to you when Tim starts getting on your nerves (literally). She has always been a great supporter of my friends and family, and my daughters both adore her and look forward to seeing her at the convention every year. I had a great experience with Tim and his wife and crew while there getting my tattoo done. Tim drew up two huge parts of my life and combined them together to cover up a dumb tattoo I got many years ago. It was the first time I had been in his shop. It was very clean, very professional, and Tim did an absolutely fantastic job on my cover up tattoo. I highly recommend anyone interested in a tattoo, whether it's your first tattoo, or your hundredth, to go to Age of Reason and see Tim and his crew. After calling ahead and being told to "just walk on in" we were told there would be a 1 hour wait, the price was flexible, to just go and get as much as we were comfortable spending and they would work with it. So after leaving and coming back after an hour, we then had to wait 2 hours in the lobby with no one talking to us. Other people came and went with small tattoos. (All we wanted was a DATE on my wrist) After this RIDICULOUS wait, we asked the artist how much it would cost (we brought forty five dollars for one little line of Roman numerals) we were then told there was a fifty dollar minimum. After a three hour wait we were going to be turned away over five dollars when the receptionist had told us to bring how much we were comfortable with. My husband and I met Tim at the DC Tattoo Convention, and since then we refuse to let anyone else do work for us.  When we were making plans for our 10-year anniversary, we decided to have some simple matching tattoos done.  Though this was nothing like the elaborate pieces Tim has done for us in the past (over several years at the DC Convention, my husband had a coverup, a photo-real bat face, an original designed vulture/skull thigh piece, and Tim started work on a beautiful Alice in Wonderland back piece last January that looks so incredible already I can hardly believe it when Tim says he has more work to do.  Tim did an amazing thigh piece-photo real Gene Kelly for me, which won Tattoo of the Day, Best in Show, and  best Black and Grey portrait at the DC Tattoo Convention) so we knew without a doubt that even though our anniversary tattoos would be easy for us to have some schmo at any old parlor do for us, we wanted to travel to Bowling Green and see Tim.  Let me say that the work was great, and it always is.  We wanted X's, and Tim drew them up right there for us, and they looked amazing.  So we said yes!  Let me also say how taken I was with how amazingly clean the shop is, and how comfortable we felt the whole time we were there.  The walls are filled with Tim's artwork, there are gorgeous bonsai trees and live plants in the shop, the bathrooms are clean and well-stocked, and I could go on and on.  We felt welcome and left happy, and visiting Age of Reason Tattoo was well worth the trip from DC to Kentucky.  Thank you so much Tim and Pepper for everything, we will definitely be making a trip back there.I can't figure out how to post photos, but as far as I know Tim only has the one Gene Kelly.  It is mine, and it is bad ass.  If you're lucky enough to visit Tim Phelps at Age of Reason Tattoo, it is worth every single penny you'll spend (and then some) Read Less
