I am 17 and gotten my first tattoo here, due to the fact I live right ac\cross the street from him he gave me a discount. Due to being so young and not knowing what to expect Gary and Becka walked me through on what to expect. Went in with a simple design not expecting much but he made the tattoo come alive with shading. The shop was clean and he even played some Irish music on Saint Patrick's day, and instead of treating me like another customer, he treated me as an old friend. I got some work done a few years ago and being the naive 18 year old I was, took my buddies advice and went here. what a terrible choice that was on my part. I should have walked away when Gary turned down multiple of the designs I wanted because "they weren't real tattoos" which is a very snide way of saying I don't have the skill. We finally settled on something easy for him and at first the work I got seemed alright but as time went on I grew more and more unhappy with the work I had gotten and ended up getting all of it covered up and reworked. Gary bragged about how no other shop uses as small of needles as they do but it doesn't really amount to much when you can't even tattoo a line without it being jagged and very unclean. Their prices are outlandish for the quality that they perform, I was charged 150 an hour for work that had to be covered up. Luckily I friend of mine recommended Tyler moody at surreal tattoos and saved my arm from all the embarrassing remarks I would get about the job gary did, and Tyler charged by the session not per hour. So it literally costs less to go to much more professional and skilled artists in the area, but if you want a nice jagged prison style tattoo for 10x what its worth then this is the shop for you. I received my 1st Tattoo at this business about 2mths ago and what I can say is that my experience was extremely disappointing. When I arrived I knew I should have turned around and left due to the fact that the shop was dirty, junky and looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in months. The owner/Father barely acknowledge me when I came in his place of business. Which I found rude, as a business owner I would expect to be greeted & welcomed. The first thing the tattoo artist did was rub deodorant on my arm and then shave it. I think that was quite disgusting because I'm thinking is she using that deodorant on other people's body parts as well?The lady that was doing my tattoo had her daughter (a small child around 2 or so), running around in the back as I'm getting my tattoo. Mind you the little girl is talking to me and down right interfering as I'm in pain getting very first tattoo. I love kids, but that is not the place to bring your kids to work. When it was over, I was not given any written directions or tips on after care. She just said use a mild lotion and don't pick at it. I got my tattoo done by The Professor. He is one real cool guy and tries his best to make his client at home. ( I am Mexican and he put some mexican music while he was working lol.) You must have a sense of humor to understand him. The best of all is that he does great work. Read Less

I went here twice in one day, first was to give a brief summary of the sleeve I wanted. I told them most of what I was looking for. they asked for pictures for references and they'd do it, I came back with pictures of the general ideas of what I wanted with some tweaking. I was told by the professor that he isn't going to waste his time spending the energy drawing it all up and creating my design for my sleeve. That all They do is stencil copy and pastes. He sent me away and refused my business. I was pissed, and shocked. If you're looking to get anything original or anything that is truly an artists work, don't bother swinging by inkslinger's they'll just waste your time as well. Read Less

Inkslingers Tattoo is the place to go. I went in recently to get a half back tattoo. This specific tattoo had very fine lines. The Professor did a great and professional job. The tattoo looks amazing. The place is clean, has great people, and is really cozy. I've been to other places but Inkslingers Tattoo is the ONLY place I will go now. I would give this place ten out of five stars if I could.  This was my first tattoo and had a great experience here.   I was a little nervous at first, but the staff made feel relaxed in no time. Just today my boyfriend and I went in the shop to get three letters tattooed on our wrists, anticipating the cost would be around $120 (like most shops.) I went here with my wife for a tattoo on my arm. 5 Min in I was rushed and TOLD there was only one way to draw what I wanted and every time I said I didnt want that I was told ""I know what im doing just trust me"". I now have this peice of crap tattoo on my arm with 1/2 shade and 1/2 non shaded. To top it all off she was rushing becasue it was closeing time when she was the one that told us to come in at that time. I am now trying to find someone to fix her screw ups if anyone knows a good place in KS please email me. Gary Barber has tattoed both my husband,myself, and our son, this is a family affair.We have been friends with him since he was in Olathe, and his numerous moves ashe became more successful. I am a retired SAILOR with 32 years of service and have been in Tattoo Shop's , Studio's and Parlor's all around the world. You know,what's a SAILOR without a tattoo or two or three or full or half sleeves back piece etc etc. Not only is he an excellent Artist, but I have seen many of the KC area Artist's come out of his studio after serving under his skilled teaching. I got treated like a know nothing tourist by some dogfaced teenage girl with horrible tattoos on her. She informed me to check out their portfolios I had to go on line. That was 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I'm litterally COVERED from my my neck to my toes with very visable work from some of the best artists in the business. I have been in good, bad shops from coast to coast, across the world but I have never encounterted such a low budget no talent operation like this one who feeds off of first timers, probably dogfaces teeny bopper freinds if she has any, with bad looks, a bad attitude, a shop that looks like my grandmas house I'd say this is one HUGE waste of time.
