If I could rate lower I would. I do not reccommend this place for pierecing. I am extremely mad and my nose is completely botched up & swollen. I have had two experiences with this lady and I am not a happy customer. I surely will not return. I went in to get my nose ring changed to a hoop. When I got my nose pierced in July 2016. I had three people with me and I still have the photos & note they gave me. I went to go get my nose pierced signed all the paperwork and paid. She had an attitude when my sisters had asked some questions but I was too happy about getting my nose pierced that her attitude didn't bother me.They told me I could come back and get it changed for free after it healed.After I had gotten it pierced I showed it to my older sister and one other friend and told me that the piercing was too high and for the price I paid was not worth it. Still, it didn't bother me because it looked alright to me I thought it was just her being picky. ( she has had her nose pierced too)I came Jan said I have to pay 5$ dollars whatever cool that's not a problem for me. Keep in mind I also have my younger cousin with me who witness everything. So she precedes to put in the hoop. For starters, she didn't wipe me down but I was like its okay because I had already wiped my nose with alcohol prior to coming. So she is trying to put the hoop in but is struggling and saying it is too small. So she said she was going to stretch it to make fit. I said okay. She went back in and out with the needle about four times. At one point I looked down and saw a lot of blood. Her son came in while she was putting the hoop in and started talking about zoning and paperwork for that. Like she wasn't even focusing on my hoop my cousin said. She told me "done". Wiped me off with water. She handed me the mirror both I and my cousin looked and we saw that the hoop had changed into a stud. (it was a hoop with a diamond). I was like it's supposed to be a hoop, not a stud. Jan said I couldn't get in because the piercing is too high whoever angle it didn't do it right. Y'all I was internally fuming because she was one who pierced my nose. Jan said I needed to get a nose hoop like my cousins, that mines were too small (5/16)She told me she wouldn't charge me because she wouldn't get it in. She could have just put back in the original nose ring I had. The what was a hoop nose ring can fall out at any min. My nose is swollen badly and extremely hurts. That says a lot because I have a HIGH pain tolerance I kid you not I'm upset because next week is my 21st birthday and I really wanted to have a hoop in. I called BDC explained what happened they said they would be happy to change it for me after the swelling goes down and that they do it for FREE. Read Less

This was my first tattoo and it was a biggy- eyebrows.  I was so nervous.  Jan did such a great job.  My brows look so natural that my sister asked me what kind of eyebrow pencil I used.  She was so surprised that they were tattooed on.  Thanks Jan for absolutely fabulous brows. Read Less

Jan is amazing !  My daughter had her ears pierced somewhere else and had been having trouble with them being  infected for some time. We cleaned them constantly and still had issues. We went to Jan for help. She took the earrings out , cleaned and replaced with other earrings. Jan gave us  good advice on cleaning and caring for them. This was so awesome! Can't believe I actually got it done, I thought I was going to be too scared, and yet, I wasn't. She talked to me really calmly, and made sure everything was smooth, and didn't seem bothered by the huge piercing party we had haha! I love my new piercing. (Also, I'm still a minor, and if you're also a minor trying to get this pierced, with a parents consent, this is definitely the place to go.) Skin Illustrations helped me out so much! I got piercings at BDC and they messed them up. He was rude af so we called Skin Illustrations just down the street and she told me to come in and she changed my piercings for free and I was their second customer TODAY who came in asking her to fix what BDC messed up. I just got my nostril pierced at Skin Illustrations, and it was a very positive experience! Everyone one was cordial and conversational, and the piercing process felt clinical and safe. At first I was taken aback by the fact that the downstairs was a nail salon, but I was so happy with every aspect. The piercing artist was so patient with me and was able to cater to my requests. DO NOT go here for anything relating to dermal piercings! The piercer with '20 years experience' waited till I was laying in the chair to ask me how to remove dermal tops. The upstairs looks completely run down and most of the booths are empty. The piercing chair has a bandaid on it to cover up a hole, Which I'm sure is against health code violations. Once I asked her if she had ever done this before and she responded with 'once or twice' I got out of the chair and didn't even let her touch me, I asked if she had the tool for sale because I actually know how to unscrew them but I couldn't grab on it to properly without the tool, and she couldn't even locate the proper tool after searching through junk drawers in her booth and office. Completely unprofessional and unsanitary! Not to mention she did not even have ANY up to date knowledge about dermals/surface anchors.I repeat DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANYTHING RELATING TO DERMALS!!!! I have been going to Skin Illustrations both in Lawrence and Overland Park for many years. They have very talented artists. I am always happy with the work I get there that's why I always go back. If you are new to Lawrence this is the tattoo shop to go to. Their prices are resonable and they take walk-in's. They don't have consoltation fees like the others do.Rodney Read Less

clean placegot my toungue pierced- they did it quickly and correctly, they knew what they were doing. Most with the exeption of one or two were snoby, rude, and unfriendly. If they would teach there artist that taking the big "I'm to cool to be nice" chip off there shoulders would bring in more customers and give them bigger tips they would be an exceptional establishment, but hey, this is lawrence, snoby is our middle name! I have been going to Skin Illustrations for a while now and i always keep going back. I get so many compliments on the work i get done there it sometimes gets overwhelming hehe.
