I got a tattoo here about two years ago, and I was too embarrassed to share my experience but I'd like to share now. I was 18 and I wanted to get a tattoo of course. My design was badly drawn but I guess the guy at the front just wanted his $75 so he didn't offer any advice on the tattoo design. Naturally the tattoo came out with mistakes. When I went back to address these issues and to possibly get them fixed by another artist at the place, the guy who had originally done the tattoo said "Well it's MY [the artist's] tattoo, so..." when in reality, no, it's my tattoo. The tattoo-ee. I should have slowed down, gotten a better design down, and found an artist I could trust, but the lack of professionalism and guidance from this place definitely strikes me. I later went to Neon Dragon Tattoo in Cedar Rapids - the shop there was much cleaner, with very nice customer service, and had, in general, a much better atmosphere. Read Less

I can't imagine a better experience getting our tattoos than going to Old School Jeff at Iowa City Tattoo. We're both newbies, but he took the time to work with us, explain what was going on, and so forth. We came to him with a vague idea of what we wanted and he suggested the perfect design for us. He made sure to ask us if we needed to get up and move around, if we felt any discomfort, or if we had to go to the bathroom. Absolutely no discomfort; it wasn't even as bad as a sunburn. He brought in a privacy screen while he did my wife's tattoo, even though it just on her back. He made sure to give us plenty of after care information and suggested some products to use. Haven't had to go back for a touch up, but that's because it's got a little more healing to do. The studio was clean, the people were friendly, and we talked about Anime and comics while we got the ink. We had such a good experience that I want to go back and get some more. Read Less

It's taken me quite a while to find a tattoo artist that I'm as comfortable with as Anne. She's fun to talk to, does a great job, and makes sure you are completely satisfied with her work before, after, and beyond. I can't wait to have more pieces done by her in the future! Read Less

My artist was friendly and the experience was quick and not all that painful for my first tattoo. My only complaint is that it was quite expensive for such a small simple colorless design and I was only told the price after it was finished. It was lucky that I had that money on me. Iowa City Tattoo (previously called Nemesis) is awesome. I love the atmosphere. To me, it's edgy but close knit. Both of my experiences here went great. My first tattoo was done by Andrew, my second by Jeff (Jeff is seriously the coolest dude). I also brought my sister here for her tattoo, which she had done by Jeff, and she loved it. Read Less

Awesome place! I went here for my first tattoo (a watercolor on my inner arm). At first I thought it was going to be a rough day, because the receptionist I talked to on the phone at first told me I could just walk in and didn't need to set an appointment. Well, turns out Cooper was booked for two sessions on that day. The second receptionist I talked to (along with Cooper himself) were both very helpful, however, and accommodated me. It was wonderful to get the tattoo done from start to finish in one go, especially since I drove over an hour to the shop. I'm beyond happy with the finished product and the oveall experience. Andrew is a great tattoo artist, I definitely recommend him. He listened to how we wanted our designs to be, and was very attentive to this. However, one of the front desk guys was INCREDIBLY rude to us, and almost made us decide to leave and go somewhere else. Some of the tattoo artists are great here, but the shop needs to consider not hiring people who are going to treat their customers in such a poor way. Read Less

I've had all my tattoos done here. Recently moved and looked at other places locally to save on gas. Absolutely not! The work fails in comparison and none of them provide touch ups on their own tattoos (they want $50 to touch up their own tattoos!). Just had one done today and paid $150 the quote locally was $300! WELL worth the gas for the price, touch ups and most of all quality of work! Plus I like the people ; ) Read Less
