I had a large tattoo done here on the top of my foot.  I got in fast and it was awesome!  Everybody was really nice and lively, so it was a great experience all around.  Love this tattoo!  It's currently my favorite and I hope to go back to them for my next one.  Great directions for aftercare and it healed perfectly!  Highly recommend this place for your tattoo! Got a nose and ear piercing done here and that was fantastic. However, I came in for a simple cross tattoo and it was not what I wanted. It was bigger than I wanted and none of the points matched. When I came back for a touch up, the owner talked down to me about how it can't turn out perfect because it's a smaller tattoo(it's about 3.5"). You get what you pay for. I got an amazing tattoo at a great price. Craig charges on the low end of the range for his level. This was my first tattoo, after a lot of research I picked 5 Points & Craig for his style. I had an 8-hour session getting a half sleeve. The entire experience was better than I expected. The place is clean and well kept. Everyone was laid back, professional, and genuine. From Dylan at the front to the other staff and tattoo artists. It's been a month and the tattoo is amazing. I go in tomorrow for my 2nd tattoo with Craig and we have the 3rd one planned. Updated 4/28: I just had my 3rd tattoo today along with finishing the 2nd tattoo. I now have a full half sleeve on my right arm...roses on the inner and wolf & moon on the outer. Both tattoos are absolutely amazing! I had the same experience each time with Craig. He knows what he's doing and it shows. I uploaded the wolf & moon picture. I'll add the picture of the roses after they heal. The inner arm is more sensitive and was too puffy for a good picture. Had a difficult cover-up. A tribal design going down my rib cage. Until coming to 5 Point Studio, I was told by every other artist that I had approached (well over a dozen over the years) that they they could not cover it up. I've now had two piercings done here by Janessa. I had my rook done first, and later, I got a daith piercing. They're both inner ear piercings, so I wanted them done by someone who knew what they were doing, and I've heard so many good things about Leo and 5 Point Studios in general. I didn't make an appointment, but just popped in for my first one on Friday the 13th, because they were having a $13 piercing sale. Leo wasn't there, but Janessa was. She talked through the whole process of what the actual piercing process would be like and showed me all the pretty jewelry. She made me so comfortable and was so nice the entire time. A few months later, I messed with my earring and it fell out, and I took it in, and she put it back in for me for free. A few months after that, I went to get my daith piercing, and it was much of the same. Janessa was there, and so kind and sweet to me. She showed me all the jewelry options for the piercing I picked and talked me through the process of what she was going to do before she did it (it's kind of a weird spot in the ear to pierce, so I'm glad she did.) They've both healed up marvelously, and I haven't had any problems with them. If I decide to go for another, I will definitely go back to Janessa to get another one. Read Less

I decided to do my own research and find a shop in the Des Moines area that was putting out quality art work and had the skill to do a cover up. Covering my past mistakes of not doing my own research...grrr In my humble opinion Craig Lee at 5 Point Studio is one of the few talented artists in the Des Moine...s area. Give him a theme or idea and let his artistic abilities take over you will not be disappointed! He did an amazing half sleeve cover up project (a bad ass gladiator) I trusted him to do my son's first tattoo. When I was 18 I went to 5point to get my ears pierced and talk about getting a tattoo. I really wanted to get my ears pierced but I'm really phobic about needles that's why I waited so long. I'm a very sensitive person and I tend to overreact a lot and I kind of expected that because I was paying over $100 to get my ears pierced that the piercing artist would have been a little bit more considerate.  But instead she teased me about how dramatic I was being telling me that she's dealt with children that didn't freak out so much even though I told her from the start I would. She didn't even tell me when she was coming close to my ear with anything and got mad at me when I pulled away when she touched it saying I can't do that when she has a needle in her hand, yet she didn't tell me when she was approaching me with the needle. Luckily my mom was there and knew what I needed and told me when she was coming close to me with the needle, since the piercing artist refused to. It wasn't the best experience and I thought at least someone different will be doing my tattoo but apparently they only had one artist or only told me how to contact one artist and he turned out to be a jerk. I emailed him saying that this is my first tattoo I am very nervous and I want it this way and his response was look either trust me or you don't . he also said it would be 300$. I am done with 5 point and give them a 1 point star. I did get a tattoo at skin kitchen and they only charged me 100$ and the artist was so nice and considerate and I keep going back there for all my tattoos. Read Less

This shop and these artists are top notch!! From the moment I walked in to the moment I left!! I did not have an appointment here but I pass by the place every day to and from work. I had been wanting a small piece that had a ton of meaning behind it for awhile. So today after work I just walked in. Everyone seemed cool about me walking in with out any problems. I Talked to Mike about a quick small piece. Not one time did he complain about my design or ideas. He whipped up ...some sick drawings. As I waited, I was even asked if I wanted a glass of water or a fresh cup of java. Customer service at its finest. I'm not sure why nobody has done a review for tattoos yet!?!? Piercings piercings piercings what's up people? Unless you're getting a Prince Albert I'm unimpressed.I walked in with one of my ideas and told "dude that sucks." After we laughed they explained why my idea was great as an idea not as a tattoo, unless I wanted a big black blob.  I knew then I was getting a tattoo here.  I told them an other idea and  "that's bad ass!!" came from their lips. A little less than a week later I have my bad ass idea on my leg.  I have several tats and I really liked how I was treated here.  Not that I've ever felt unwelcome at other parlors.  It's just everyone is really friendly and make sure you feel welcome.  If your waiting the staff go out of their way to engage conversation.  Plus they have a big barrel of candy. Because my new art included a portrait of my wife I was told Craig would be the artist.  He was very professional.  The drawing was very close to what I wanted.  I haven't met a tattoo artist who doesn't change your idea to suit their style.  Which is fine you want it to look good and still remain uniquely you.  I spent 4 hours getting to know the artist who was sharing himself on my leg.  You can tell he wants you to tell people who did the work when asked.  Confident in his skills.  An important quality cuz you'll be wearing this the rest of your life.  I've never gotten multiple tattoos from the same artist, but I have a feeling I'll be back here. I got my ears pierced at Claire's, dumbest decision I have possibly ever made, and one of the piercings got messed up and didn't heal right so it had been almost a year after I took the earring out of the piercing that I went into 5 Points. The piercer told me straight up that if she pierced it then I would more than likely have the same problems later on. She didn't take advantage of me which earned both mine and my mothers respect for them. So I went back the last day of my winter break and they re-pierced my ear. I told the piercer that I didn't like needles and she talked me through the entire process, which was extremely helpful! So if there are any parents out their looking to see were to get their child's ears pierced... I say go here. Read Less

I am really very impressed by this shop, and especially by Leo, their piercer.I was recommended to 5 points by someone who had pierced her lip here, because I mentioned wanting a better quality nose ring (I had a crappy, cheap stud, and wanted a hoop.) I purchased a hoop and Leo changed it for me, only to discover that my nose (pierced elsewhere) had been pierced at an angle too crooked for a hoop, and would never really heal properly because of the angle. I was pretty distressed. He was very comforting, and encouraged me to remove the piercing and repierce it with them after some healing time. The re piercing was much more professional, and cleaner than my previous. They take ample time to sanitize the VERY high quality, beautiful jewelry, and made me feel as though I was in good hands. Their body jewelry, while significantly more than most parlors, is beautiful, high quality, and the variety is impressive.
