I'd had my eye on this shop for a while and after several failed attempts, the stars aligned and I landed my butt in a chair here at Neon Dragon for a piercing appointment with (current) apprentice, Heidi. This shop is gorgeous, spacious, clean, and modern. Tattoo takes up most of the right half while piercing lives on the left. The staff is friendly, professional, and super knowledgeable which made for a really relaxed and fun appointment. They carry a wide selection of higher end jewelry and run a little pricier than I've seen at some other shops, but your body will thank you. (Trust me, I've seen the dark side...) We went with a more basic option, which they were able to anodize in a bold color to spice it up a little bit. My friend drove up from Chicago to tag along and we both agree - hands down one of the most enjoyable modification experiences we've had to date. Only ever had a piercings done here. I have to say, JR is great. Never had a problem. But if you go to Rob then STEER CLEAR. I had him replace my tongue ring and he didn’t ask the length of my bar just assumed, it was too long and I chipped my tooth. Just recently I had my tragus done and it was a mess. There was a hair within the hole which caused severe irritation, the piercing position was different from my other tragus, and the post I was give was entirely too small. Went to get an industrial piercing done, and while waiting, there was an irate customer getting upset with the staff about her past jewelry purchase. JayR was calmly talking with the irate lady and explaining things while letting her know in a calm, yet firm, tone that she was not allowed to mistreat or disrespect him or the staff, no matter the situation. Myself and other patrons chatted about how professionally he handled the situation and how calm he stayed despite the situation and level that the irate lady went to (fairly rude yelling and demands). My spouse and I have been here a few times before and expected nothing less, as they have always been friendly, courteous, and informative for each and every visit. Very glad we chose Neon Dragon for their professionalism and knowledge. Apparently some people do not realize what goes into getting APP certified and choose not to listen to their instruction. LOVE this shop. I had Alex for my first tattoo and I was super nervous at first but she drew out my sunflower and it was perfect! Highly recommend this shop, it was very clean and had a great atmosphere! Everyone was very friendly. This was my first time getting a tattoo and they made sure to inform me how to clean it and made good suggestions like changing my original font idea so it would be more legible. Tyler was very good about making sure everything was the way I wanted it and did awesome at starting slow when he began tattooing since it was my first time and made sure it wasn't a bad first experience for me! Jason did an amazing job fixing a tattoo of a samurai on my back and brought it to life. I use to be embarrassed for having it on my skin but he completely fixed the whole thing adding much more detail to it and adding amazing color and shading to it as well. A few months ago I stopped in the shop with an idea in my head. I was kindly greeted by Rob behind the piercing counter. The woman at the front desk was busy booking other clients (always a good sign) so Rob took the time to carefully listen to what I had in mind. Without hesitation, he said to me I know the perfect person for you to work with, give me a moment. My wife and I took a seat on the couch in the waiting area and within a couple of moments, Rob was back. He introdu...ced us to Morgan. I could see Morgan was busy working with another client, so I briefly explained what I was wanting to have done. Morgan was very calm and allowed me to share with her what I wanted to be done. We talked about the process, as well as her scheduling. It was then recommended that I take a look at some of her past work. After doing this, I knew I felt confidence in Morgan. I should also point out that her calm demeanor was something that stuck out to me as well. I booked my appointment before leaving that day and sent her some photos of ideas that I wanted to somehow incorporate into my tattoo. Morgan was terrific at communicating with me in the time leading up to the tattoo. Two days prior to my appointment, I stopped in and looked at the drawings she came up with. Since we are doing a half sleeve on my upper left arm, she was able to explain how everything would lay out and gave me a great visualization of what the tattoo would look like when done. Skip forward to yesterday. My appointment was at noon and Morgan was there ready to go. We took a few 5-10 minute breaks, but otherwise, spent 7-1/2 hours working on the first portion of my sleeve. It turned out better than I could have ever imagined. The amount of detail in this piece is what keeps me staring in awe at it. I have Morgan to thank for that. My daughter wanted her ears double pierced so bad. I waited to make sure that is what she really wanted. We stopped by neon Dragon they were amazing! Her nerves took over she was second guessing herself. They talk her through her nerves, and walked her through it all. My daughter couldn't have been more happy with her experience. I could not say enough good things about our experience at Neon Dragon! I went in to ask about getting my daughters ears pierced. They were so kind to her. He talked to her and made her feel comfortable. He recommended we come back another day when they had two piercers on at the same time so they could do both her ears at once. Everything was EXTREMELY clean and sterile- down to using sterile gloves! They were so good with my daughter making her feel comfortable. She's so proud of her earrings and said she had a good time getting them done! I stopped into Neon Dragon after work on May 5th to get a nose piercing. The guy that helped me was very helpful and answered all of my questions. After the piercing I became a little light headed and sat down for a little bit. They were very helpful to make sure I had some water and a little DumDum sucker too. I'm digging my piercing!... I do have a question though, I have to travel for work in less than a month. Do you carry some of the saline/cleaner in a travel type container or do you have a recommendation for one? Three years ago I walked into Neon Dragon and the person working the counter matched me with the artist who would be best for my ideas. Talked through many options and have been going back ever since. Andrew has been completing a sleeve and working on both legs and Jason has also done a piece on my thigh. After being in the shop and looking at all the art they great I would not hesitate to get a tattoo from anyone there. Went to get a my "diath"(not sure on spelling) pierced because rumor has it it will help with headaches. JR was very professional in explaining everything he stated he is not a medical professional so the only thing they provide is piercings with no conections to it helping headeaches. Then when on to say to his clients that have recieved the piercing for the reason have given him a 50/50 feed back on it helping. He was very professional. I got my septum pierced here about a month ago and seeing as it was a piercing I had wanted for so many years I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The pricing was more than reasonable and the care that he took of me was beyond my expectations. Even on just a consultation the day before he felt the area to get a good idea of what it would be like and when I came back for the piercing he was extremely accommodating with my anxiety about needles making sure to keep me calm and relaxed and didn't have the needle in my line of sight up until the last necessary moment. He was very clear about what he was going to do and how to take care of it. Fantastic place. The inside is beautiful and very clean. The staff is extremely helpful and honest. They care about the customer and are not out to make a quick buck like most places. If they think you're making a bad decision they tell you and recommend what they think is best. I have been to Neon Dragon many times. I have also been to other tattoo and piercing places. This shop and all the staff are by far the most talented artists I have seen anywhere in Iowa. Jay R is so miticulous with any piercing he does and the environment is clean and comfortable. I have had tattoos done by three of the artists at this shop also however I had Andrew do a full sleeve on me for my most recent experience. He BLEW ME AWAY! I gave him pictures and ideas for what I wanted and told him to put his own spin on it. The color and design that he came up with are better than I even imagined!! He was steady and hilarious! Kept me at ease for over 8 hours straight and dedicated his entire day to the amazing piece of art he did for me! I could not be more satisfied with Andrews work and the shop as a whole!
