These guys are awesome. I just got my lip pierced there (spider bites, left side) and they took excellent care of me. The process itself was quick and relatively painless, but afterwards I started feeling feint and light-headed. Probably about 75% blackout. I knew there was a good chance of this happening, but I didn't know they would be so accommodating. They gave me some chocolate and ice water, put cold rags on my neck and forehead and let me just lay there until I felt like I could get up and move around. They didn't seem exasperated at all with my reaction and that was insanely comforting. To the people of China Doll, thank you so much! You're definitely my only stop for future piercings and tattoos! Went in on Friday evening (today is Sunday) to get my lip pierced. They had a 13 year old girl working the counter. She even told me her age. The kid went and got a guinea pig and all of the employees in the shop were handling it. My piercer was holding it before my piercing and I had to remind her to wash her hands! The piercer never even cleaned my lip during the entire "procedure". She coughed into her hand before putting her gloves on and I had to request she rewash her hands and change the gloves! There wasn't a sink in the piercing room so, I assume she went to the restroom to wash her hands. All of my equipment was sitting on a tray before I even came in the room. I don't know if a fresh needle was used. There were a ton of piercing studs sitting all over the counter that weren't in containers/packaging. I'm guessing mine came from the pile. I'm disgusted with myself for even letting this place touch me. I should have ran! What was I thinking? I never even got a print out or verbal explanation of cleaning instructions. My lip swelled up so bad Friday. I tried calling the shop with no answer. Yesterday (Saturday) I tried calling the shop all day again with no answer. Now it's Sunday, my lip is DISGUSTINGLY swollen, my piercing bar is so short it's pulling into my skin and I can't get the damn thing unscrewed. The shop is closed until Tuesday and I'm stuck trying to figure this out on my own. RUN! Don't walk! Go somewhere else. Hell, I could have probably pierced it better my damn self! UPDATE (SUNDAY) Not even 48 hours post piercing I'm in the ER having to have the piercing removed and heavy dose antibiotics. If the infection and swelling don't go down within 24-48 hours I'll need to have the lip surgically opened cleaned. I have been keeping the piercing clean with Dial and water externally and alcohol free mouthwash internally. These instructions came from a piercer at a different studio. I reached out to him Friday when I couldn't get an answer from China Doll. I have not been touching or messing with the piercing either. Read Less

So I came in on Friday; I decided this day to take advantage of their $20 above the waist piercing. I've been wanting to get my Septum done since back in November 2016. Finally I put my foot down and decided to screw society and my parents opinions, I would get it done! So I told my husband and faithful as he is, he supported me the whole way :) we went in together at China Doll (of course being the first time I've been inside). Before coming here, I picked this place mainly because of the many good reviews on Yelp. There was a big line once I arrived, but the process was quick. I filled out the required paperwork and waited patiently in line for about 15-20 minutes :) I picked my ring out and asked any other questions I had. Carolyn has short hair and a little big, she did an amazing job! She was polite and informative. She jumped right on ahead to pierce my Septum. The clamps of course was the most painful, it's not even a tight grip;perhaps because it's just a metal tool and makes the nose very very uncomfortable. I teared up quickly when she put the clamps on, but the needle went through like breeze coming through the window. The even placed the ring on very quick that I didn't notice the movement. After she finished she told me to keep it very clean by using sea salt spray. After we walked outside and head towards the car, there was no more discomfort or pain. Many other reviews and YouTube reviews I've seen complained about the pain on their nose all the way toward the nose bridge and even their top lip. Well I don't know what the big deal is, beside the clamps. The piercing is absolutely painless once the clamps come off. I make sure to clean my ring with sea salt spray at least 4 times a day, especially if my nose gets runny. I also move it back and forth so that it doesn't get crusty up there. I paid exactly $20 for exceptional service, sterile ring and humous customer service :) will come back here for more piercings! Read Less

I have had tattoos done there in the past and always had a wonderful experience. I would give China Doll 5 stars all the way if it weren't for Munkali, a mediocre artist with a tenuous grasp on the English language at best. After calling around to numerous places for pricing and an appointment, this place by far was the most reasonable, friendly and professional. The tattoo we wanted was very specific and Munkkali, the artist did a great job. Customer service was great, he made us feel relaxed, which is good for a first time tattoo. My friend and I walked in at 815 on a friday night. There were some artists doing tattoos and the front had a few other customers in it. We were there for nipple piercings. We were greeted as soon as we came in the door by other friendly artists. We told them what we needed and they told us it would be about 10 min due to people before us. It was only about 10 minutes like he said and most of that was spent chatting with one of the artists and filling out paperwork. The piercer was AMAZING! Clean and hilarious! You could tell she was VERY experienced. She was quick and did well. I will recommend her to every one of my friends for their piercing needs! We got to the front and she had explained the aftercare of our new piercings. We purchased the sea salt spray for $10. Our total each was $50! Like...really??? $40 dollars for a quick and sterile piercing in an awesome tattoo shop? I was very pleased. I went to China doll the other day for a few piercings.  As soon as I walked in I felt comfortable and welcome.  Carolyn was my piercer and she did a great job.  She took her time to make sure I was happy with the placements, and was quick when it came time to pierce.  I got two tragus piercings and  upper cartilage piercings on each ear. I decided to honor my grandmother's passing with a tattoo. My first tattoo. After asking around for referrals, I chose China Doll and I'm so glad I did. I had some ideas and emailed the shop to see if I needed an appointment or a consultation and who I should got to. After several in depth and informative emails, we decided John was the guy I needed to see.  I am so happy with the final product! The shop is super clean, everyone was very friendly. That being said, they won't take any crap from patrons.  There are signs everywhere about aftercare being the customers responsibility and not a reflection on the artist.  Pricing seems reasonable, I believe I paid about two something for a 2.5 hour leg piece. They also do piercing specials often.  I highly recommend China Doll to anyone looking for ink. Read Less

I have never gotten tattooed by any of these artists but have been getting pierced by Carolyn since I was 18. She is fantastic and always makes the most of the (kinda stressful/anxious) piercing situation w/ good stories and laughs. The place is filthy and doesn't even smell sanitary! I went in the winter months and the floor was covered in traffic slush and dried dirt. The tattoo artist cords from their guns were even dragging in it. They have a fish tank in there that I think has never been cleaned. The muck growing on it probably has a mind of its own and it's thinking it needs to get out of there before it catches a staff infection. I really don't know anything about their tattoos so I can't comment on that aspect***So I'll start out by saying that super low prices or specials usually scare me a little bit with tattoo/piercing places, but in this case it was a win-win situation!!!  I have been wanting to get my septum pierced for a few months now because I missed having facial piercings but couldn't have any in nursing school. That's the beauty of the septum piercing... You can flip it up & it's virtually invisible! I hadn't gone out to my usual piercer just because I didn't really have the $60 plus tip to spend. I went out to Hammond where one of my best friends lives & she told me about China Doll which is a block away from her house & about their $20 waist-up piercing deal on Fridays & Saturdays! She had gotten pierced by Carolyn a few times with great results. Well, that's all I needed to hear before dragging her to China Doll to finally get my septum pierced! The staff was friendly and there were 3 girls ahead of me getting pierced and a few who showed up after me as well. It wasn't a long wait at all though! I sat down & told Carolyn when it was my turn that my biggest concern was being able to hide it. She assured me it would be easy to flip up & put the clamps on my nose. It was obvious she'd done this a million times and was as painless as possible. (My eyes did water up dramatically, as anyone who's had a nose piercing can relate to!) she told me how to clean it & I opted to purchase the sterile solution spray they sell there for $10 as well. The whole process, wait included, was only about a half hour! I will definitely come back for any more piercings I may get here! The only thing I wasn't so sure about was that she didn't clean my septum before piercing it. Everything was very clean and she cleaned me up after it was pierced, but I'm a slight germaphobe and OCD so I would've preferred that. I was in the area for a concert and got in town a little early. So my friend & I decided to look up tattoo shops & check them out.  She wanted a tattoo but we didn`t have the time for her to get what she wanted & I wanted a piercing. I looked on yelp for reviews & this was the only place in town I saw (and was really close to the concert venue) that had fantastic reviews, so we decided to stop in.  They had a great deal Friday's & Saturday's for piercings, so I ended up getting two! I LOVE my piercings, I had my rook & tragus done. Carolyn did them both, and knew what she was doing. The store was very clean, and was really easy to find! I've had my nose pierced two other times by Koolsville: once I took it out b/c the job don't allow it and the second time I took it out because months later after getting sick I developed a piercing pimple(is what I was told it was called) and my skin started rejecting my piercing. After letting it heal for some months I decided that I finally wanted to get it done again and began calling around for prices. Most of the places I called where $30-$40 but when I called China Doll I was told if I waited til the weekend it would only be $20. So me being the cheapskate that I am decided to go ahead and wait to get it done. And it's added bonus that China Doll is literally 2 blocks from me.So I finally go on Friday and as soon as I walked in I was greeted by a spunky, pink haired female. I fill out the paperwork and had to wait a few minutes since they were pretty busy with people trying to take advantage of the any piercing above the waist $20 deal. I go in back and it was a lot cleaner than Koolsville. The piercer gathers her supplies together and we chit chat a little bit about the piercing. Although I've had it done twice before I'm still nervous as hell. She calms me down and it's over with in a minutes time. I was worried about the nose screw she used and me bein able to get it out since I had trouble the last time and she told me that if I need any sort of help with my piercing to come in, she's like a doctor and that's why she's there. So here I got my piercing finally done again for a reasonable price, in a clean shop, and dealt with staff members that were definitely friendly and easy to talk to! If/when I decide on another piercing I will definitely go back to China Doll! Read Less
