I don't have a single tattoo artist that I go to for my tattoos but I may have found the one at A Thin Line! First, I was greeted with smiles from every staff member. I came in as a walk-in and was worried they wouldn't be able to squeeze me in. Even with their busy schedule, they heard me out on what I wanted done and were able to do not one, but two smaller tattoos for me! I walked into A Thin Line tattoo eager to get my first ink. The place had come so highly recommended that I had positive expectations. When the artist I'd chosen from his online portfolio came out, he was borderline hostile. He seemed annoyed by the simplicity and small size of the tattoo I wanted. I'd told the receptionist on the phone that this was my first foray and I may need some help with the design I was bringing in (she assured me I'd get it), but this man was impatient and reluctant to make any suggestions. He gave me an uncivil minute of his time before asking me if I wanted to do it right then. I said yes (a bit tentatively since we hadn't reached any conclusions) and he disappeared leaving me in the waiting room with no idea of what was going on. This tattoo is important to me--it represents my third victory over cancer. I don't want it to be tainted by a condescending attitude and impatience...so I sucked up my courage and left. I'll try another place another day, but to be honest, this really makes me wonder if I want to try again. I just got my 40 something tattoo there and let me say the place is professional and clean as it gets. My tattoo artist Adam Tyler Zinanni is an ace at script. It's like he uses a typewriter it's so perfect. Out of all the places I've been they are the first to have my sign a piece of paper to double check that everything was spelled correctly. The staff is extremely nice and Adam was so cool and very patient with me. He went through all the texts the had available and even offered to check out more on a site they use. He placed the tensile on me three different times to get it exactly where I wanted it and he did it with a smile on his face. If only zero stars were an option. They are not a kind staff. Ironically, I was not even a customer during the visit, just emotional support but the staff did not bother to ask why I walked in before kicking me out. I was not even allowed to sit in the waiting area which is an entirely separate room, my dog and I had to leave the building entirely.On their wall is a paper, printed from Word, not official whatsoever that says; 'No Service Dogs.' Licensed Service Dogs (mine is and I always carry the license as proof for situations like this) are allowed everywhere, even hospitals, which are far more sterile environments than tattoo shops. I'm a bit of a tattoo connoisseur and have never before had an issue with my Service Dog being in any tattoo shop in fact, he has always been preferred company.It is common sense that this is a nationwide law, a law that this tattoo shop blatantly ignores. Common sense is not that common at A Thin Line Tattoo. Their refusal to acknowledge this law specifically-the ADA, Americans with Disabilities Act, section 36.302-is illegal and cause for a major fine but I won't pursue that because the art quality there is subpar and I prefer to be tattooed at place with talent, creativity and skill that also has a welcoming atmosphere like Wasted Youth Tattoo or Supersauce, both are undoubtedly superior to A Thin Line Tattoo when it comes to service, quality and price.What a shame, kindness and consideration open many doors. So bummed that I never knew about this hidden gem tucked away just minutes from where I live. All this time I had searched and asked for recommendations in the city, assuming that was the best place to get my tattoos. One night, I had an urge to add some wording to an existing tattoo. Wasn't very complicated, but as with anything, I like to do my research and make sure I do my due diligence. I turned to yelp and other search engines and was optimistic based on all the praise and reviews for A Thin Line Tattoo. I called to see if there were openings and decided to just walk-in. A Thin Line is located in a strip mall/restaurant area in North Plainfield/South Naperville area (near Binny's and Nevin's Brewery on 127th and Route 59). Parking is ample and location is convenient. Upon walking in, the place is extremely clean, bright, colorful and comfortable (not intimidating to the tattoo novice or veteran alike). The front desk woman was kind and informative. Bill (Sorensen) happened to be available. I didn't realize until later that he was the owner. I told him what I wanted, showed him my current tattoo, and together we chose a font that would be complimentary in size and aesthetics. He was extremely helpful, receptive to my thoughts, and seemed equally enthusiastic to do my simple request as he would probably be working on another more complicated or intricate request. It was fast, painless, and best of all, very well-priced compared to places in the city (that are not superior in quality or skill). I was so pleased with the service and atmosphere that I have already raves to my friends and we have called for appointments with Bill again. Can't recommend him or A Thin Line enough. Over the past five years, I've gotten 3 tattoos and two piercings from A Thin Line Tattoo and I couldn't be happier with how they've all turned out! Each of my tattoos was done by a different artist (one at the Naperville location, two at the Batavia location) and I loved them all. The guys were quick, clean, and professional, and I honestly can't think of a single negative thing to say about my experience at either shop. I got an industrial piercing by Kenny and he was incredible! He's very conversational and informative, which made the experience enjoyable. He customized my bar and made sure it was exactly what I wanted, measured everything so it would be a perfect fit, then explained everything he was doing during the actual piercing process and waited until I said I was ready. I finally decided to get my first tattoo and found  A Thin Line based on their great online reviews. I stopped in to ask a few questions and the receptionist was very patient and friendly. I went home to look through all of the artists and found Buddy's black and white work to be closest to what I was looking for. I emailed to make an appointment and they told me you have to book in person to pay a deposit. I tried stopping in the following day and the appointment was taken already. I didn't want to change my mind if I kept waiting, so I went home to do some more research on the other artists. When I went back in to make the appointment later that night Buddy was available and said she would squeeze me in. I wanted a very small, simple tattoo that probably wasn't the most exciting but she was still very helpful. She answered all of my questions and talked to me the entire time to make sure I was comfortable. She was very thorough in giving me specific aftercare instructions and said she is more than willing to take phone calls to answer any questions that come up. I have had 3 pieces done by 2 different artists here (emily and daniel)and the experience was awesome. I took a chance recently and tried a new artist (to me-nikki) and should have went with my gut feeling. I've seen work done by this artist and loved it. I go in with what I think is a small simple piece and was frustrated with the initial experience. It was obvious early on that I would have to get a touch up. I've never even had to get one on my 20 yr old tattoo! I thought maybe they had a bad or off day. I go in for the touch up and the artist was late, I understand, life happens. I should have known from the start of the session. Goes to shave any hair from my arm, I thought it felt odd, the cap was on the razor the whole time! Struggled to get the gun together for quite some time, kept complaining back/neck/shoulders hurt due to sleeping weird, so i offered a suggestion to raise the stand my arm was on. The artist couldn't loosen it to move it on their own, I had to (and was super easy, 2 finger tight at the most), artist couldn't tighten it well either. Wanted a letter fixed that faded, would go through all the motions as if the needle was touching me (but wasn't), wiping the ink off me that poured from the gun, and asked me how I liked it 3 times when the needle never touched my skin! Had to tell them to finish the letter 3 times!  The kicker is that while cleaning the gun to change inks, the artist was literally falling asleep! A times, the hand was light and minimal pain, other times it was very rough and at one point was gauged with the needles. To the point the needles had flung out of my skin leaving a drag in color in a place that wasn't wanted.  I'm not a wuss by any means for tattoos but this was a bit much. Had to stop the session to have other coworkers talk to this person cause i was not comfortable with a sleeping person tattooing me and taking it upon themselves to add what they want to me. Was supposed to be a simple touch up and the more the artist kept "highlighting"it, the whole image had changed. The artist ended up adding things when they weren't supposed to. I thought they were starting to redo a line, then just added a black area that I never said I wanted. They said "putting this here really makes the color pop". Well I can't take it away now. Gotta do what we can to fix it. I am hoping this heals well and I don't regret not just paying someone else to fix it. Hate to say, I couldn't wait to get out of their fast enough. I got my first tattoo rather late in life but the experience at this place changed a lot of my pre-conceived notions about tattoo parlors.The parlor is very clean and contemporary, all the staff and artists deal with you in a professional manner and you get comfort in the fact that they seem to take all the necessary precautions to reduce any potential for infections etc.My first tattoo required a lot of line work and Bill Sorensen did an unbelievable job and I have since gotten more pieces of art  Bill on my back, left arm and my right shoulder. about two weeks ago I had my nose and bellybutton pierced by Kenny and I could not be more pleased with the results! Kenny is an extremely knowledgeable artist and was very informative. He was very patient with me as I picked out my jewelry and he made sure I was comfortable and aware of everything that he did from the sterilization of the tools to the piercing placements. I believe my artist was Brian and he did a Celtic cross for me and at first it was okay but after it healed and some touching up, it looks horrible. The lines are so wonky and uneven that I have people tell me all the time "who did that to you?". The shading and symmetry of the tattoo are also terrible. Let me know as well that this was after a touch up as well. I will say the shop is a clean place and healthy atmosphere. My sister had a simple tattoo done as well and even that had crappy lines and just poor effort put into it. I'm actually going to be doing a laser removal and having something put over because the attention to detail and line work is so far off that I can even bare to look at it anymore. I'd recommend driving down the road a little bit and go to blue collar tattoo instead where their work really shines. Overall just a disappointing tattoo that was never fixed, paid good money for absolute crap work. Read Less

This was my first time getting a tattoo at A Thin Line Tattoo and I couldn't be happier. Walking in the place was very clean and I loved the jewelry display up front to look at (I'm already planning on getting a piercing, too). The girl up the front was also very nice and greeted us when we walked in. My artist was Adam and I am so thankful for his patience while I changed my mind several times on the tattoo I wanted. With his help I finally decided on what I wanted and how it would work best for me. The room itself was very nice--lots of creepy (but cool!) things on the wall to look at, and a nice little TV to watch. The whole place felt very clean.Once everything was all done Adam was very thorough in explaining the after care and answered any questions I had. My man Adam is a master of inky designs. I was lucky enough to get paired with him my very first time and I've subsequently received a 3/4 sleeve from him and some chest work. His personality and passion for his job are evident. Plus, every single artist I've come into contact with have been great, too. For those people who are put off by the receptionist being gruff, edgy or a bit giddily-widdily I'd like to remind you that this is not a hotel. Give them your info and let them hang up with you. Plus, if you are tough enough to get through the gates of the reception area you are granted a masterpiece of ink. Perseverance is key here, my little darlings, but you can do it! Let me first start off by saying I love my tattoo. It means a lot to me and I do think it is well done. Originally, I had no intention to leave a review one way or another, but months later, my experience still kind of nags at me. Getting a tattoo done, especially my first here, was not the best. I understand my tattoo, which is a motto of a city of importance to me, is not the most flashy or exciting thing these artists ink, but it is important enough for me to get it tattooed on my body forever. When I asked what artists were the best with lettering, I was told any of them would do, which didn't inspire much confidence. I was blindly assigned to Bill, handed in my sketches, which were scanned in, and left with an appointment. When I came back for that appointment, Bill had never seen my design and had no idea what I was in for. Luckily, I brought my scans with me, he rescanned them in, and played around with them in Photoshop. When I told him part of the design was too big to go with the lettering, he was really bent out of shape and begrudgingly changed it after I had to reexplain that I didn't want it any different, only a little bit smaller in the program. Then without really giving me much time to look at the design on my arm he went to work. He didn't really ask or care what my design was about and seemed to think the whole thing was kind of a waste of his time. Again, I get it, not a super exciting tattoo, but it means a lot to me and I was paying and tipping him for his time...My friend made a comment about how I had just graduated college and he went on a rant about what a waste of time and money he thinks college is. My tattoo was quick and he went over care instructions very thoroughly. Ultimately, I left very happy with my tattoo and not very happy with the experience my artist gave me.Edit: the manager reached out and made amends. He was great and I went in to get my tragus pierced by Kenny and had a great experience! Read Less

This is a nice place to have a tattoo done and a nice place to get a piercing, but if you schedule an appointment and need to cancel it (there is a 50$ deposit) and you call a month in advance to cancel it they don't give your down payment back (due to the booking time with the artist). This is not very good customer service and they pocket your money. It's sad that they are not able to address an unforeseen change in the lives of their customers because they just lost future business. I'm really disappointed as even when I was in Las Vegas and scheduled a tattoo, they refunded my down payment for an unforeseen issue (hospitalization). Be aware that if you schedule your appointment, you spend 50$ to schedule it and it is non-refundable. Will not be going back here Read Less

Horrible customer service!!! Stay away!!! My 15 y/o daughter scheduled an ear piercing over the phone and when we went the smug looking receptionist told us that we should've  brought a government i.d. for my dtr. She said one with a picture like a school i.d. No one in that office told my daughter over the phone that we needed to bring those. It was ridiculous. So we had to reschedule a couple weeks after. When we went back my daughter showed her school id but then they told us we should've brought her birth certificate or passport. That stupid receptionist never told us to bring those additional documents before. So nevermind. We just cancelled and walked away.  What a nightmare! We wasted our time going there twice. They need to to not hire stupid people in their front desk or they better train them well. Never going back there ever again! Read Less

My daughter had her ears pierced at Claire's a few years ago. Her ears never healed and she would cry every time I tried to touch her earrings/clean them/etc. Changing them was an even bigger ordeal. We tried several different metals, etc but just wasn't getting better. We decided to take them out and let her holes close up.  Fast forward a year and a half, she was ready to get her ears pierced again. I googled tattoo shops around me... And the reviews for Thin Line caught my eye. We went in tonight.... Nicest service and people, ever. Kenny, the piercer, is AMAZING! He was so patient, kind and friendly to my 6 year old daughter. He explained every step to her, told her to tell him when she's ready... Thoroughly explained how to take care of them in the future... Etc. The service was there was refreshing and wonderful. A thin line tattoo is THE place to go for any ink on y our body.....You only have one canvass so you surely want the best possible work going on your body. I blindly chose Bill Sorensen for my first tattoo there last year and was pleased so  there was no reason for me to opt for a different artist this time around  My critique is not against any other artist there rather it is for the shop and for Bill Sorensen...Shop is absolutely spotless down to and including the restrooms and each individual studio is of course Immaculate. While this is something one would desire and expect it is unfortunately not the norm in this businessUpon entering facility you are warmly and professionally greeted be knowledgeable and courteous staff and I cannot stress too much how courteous the staff is . They show the utmost respect for each and every client and that impressed me quite a bit being that I am 66 years old and for the most part being surrounded by 20 something year olds both clientele and employees....It really is a refreshing parlor to visit above and beyond the artistry  Bill was my artist  by the luck of the draw the first time around and by choice this time . HE was patient with me as to the finer details  offered critical advice about placement ( which I thankfully took as well) put down the ink perfectly and as usual added his own little touches and flourished which really  makes the tat stand out on the body and allows for you to "own"it. I have seen Bill S. twice now, as a walk-in both times as my schedule doesn't allow me to make appointments very far in advance. Both times, he was accomodating, professional, and took his time with the design, placement, and tattoing, and the work I left with exceeded my expectations.The shop is spotless, and all of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. They were very patient with a group of girls in their early twenties that had never been tattooed, that were there at the same time as I was. I was really impressed that they didn't mock them or make them uncomfortable, but patiently explained their options, including how tattoos of a certain detail and size would age, and made recommendations about changing the level of detail and size. I called A Thin Line in search of some advice about a piercing I got at another shop that had started to heal poorly. Kenny offered to let me come in and talk about the piercing in person. When I got to the shop, the first thing that I noticed was how clean it was. After consulting with Kenny for a while, he cleaned up the old piercing, took it out, and helped me pick out a new stud. There was a huge variety of high quality stones and designs that he had to offer. After putting the new sterlized stud in, he answered all of my questions thoroughly and told me to feel free to contact him in case of any issues. The friendly nature of the staff, cleanliness of the shop, and thorough nature of the artists' work really made an impression on me. I don't even have to explain how great these guys are. The shop is clean and their work is phenomenal. I'd recommend seeing Scott or Brian, they're both really cool and down to earth. My tattoo was quick and the customer service was awesome. They make you feel right at home. Don't consider any other tattoo place. Read Less

Literally one of the nicest shops I've been in.  Most places have this pissy attitude like they are better than you. I had gotten my rook piercing done here and had been impressed with their tattoo work.  So I finally decided on a tattoo on my foot I went in and talked to Scott.  He was so cool and chill. I ended up making an appointment.  When I got there, I asked the piercer a question about my nose ring and he was really nice.  When the session started, obviously being in a lot of pain, I made funny noises. Scott was really cool and making me laugh.  It was over really quick.  He was so awesome, along with the entire shop.  I would HIGHLY recommend the shop and Scott!Update:  so I went back and brought my boyfriend and parents (they wanted tattoos too).  We ended up having Brian as the artist and he was AWESOME! All of our tattoos are very well done (no scarring or fading).  I ended up having the most time consuming piece out of the 4 of us.  He took his time and basically put a concept outline on my shoulder and picture next to it and tatted away.  Let me tell you...It. Is. Gorgeous. We are very happy customers. Everyone in the shop is pretty cool. But for an amazing black and gray piece...go see Brian! Read Less
