So I went in today to get my first piercing I’ve had in a long time... since I was about six years old. I wanted to get something new and different for my 18th birthday and had thought that a belly piercing would be the perfect thing. Well, unfortunately, I did not end up with a new piercing because the piercing I had received by Good Family Tattoo was too big for the actual jewelry to fit in seeing how every time that the guy tried to screw the end ball in, he kept on pinching my skin. This made the entire process extremely uncomfortable. So he ended up taking out the piercing entirely, and told me I had to wait a week before getting it repierced... well I did not think that was enough time to wait so I had called a second pierced for a second opinion and she told me that there was no way just a week would be enough to heal the piercing and that a month would be enough. They offered to give me my second repiercing for free but I am afraid to go back to the same place out of fear of the having same outcome because they do not measure the spot that they are piercing and they kind of just do it by eye. Just called to price a simple letter on my finger tattoo. Wanted me to make an appointment to come in and talk about it. This is a tattoo parlor not a Doctors office. Should have quoted me a price to get me in the door so that I would want to do some return business. Tattoos are becoming more and more less popular these days. Both my wife and I have several tattoos which means they just lost a lot of business. With so many tattoo parlors closing everday I would think you would want as much business as possible. Went in yesterday to get my eyebrow repierced, listening to the guy at the front counter ( manager or owner I'm not sure) instruct the piercer on how to do the eyebrow, instead of letting him just attempt it on his own, he came and did it himself. I went in last week to good family to get an estimate. The atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly. I was greeted by Joel who happily gave me a quote and told me when the best time to come in was. Well of course we have two babies( ones a year and eight months and the other is 8 months) he told me to bring them that they were kid friendly. My best friend and I came this past Saturday (the 25th) because I've been wanting to get an industrial piercing for the longest. Joel the owner took us in with open arms and gave me a magnificent experience! Back in February I went in for a very simple word tattoo and it was completed in a few minutes by Frank. I had a very old one that I got when I was young and at that time spoke with Frank about covering it up. I had had many laser treatments to remove it but it was stubborn and light enough to now just cover. Made my next appointment and went back with a couple of pictures that I wanted him to work from and he began the tattoo. Shortly in, I questioned where he was going because from what I saw it was not shaping up anywhere close to the samples I provided him. He assured me he understood my wishes and continued. A few minutes later the owner, Joel, came in and I told him that I wasn't happy with how this was going because it didn't look like what I asked for. He also said he understood, gave Frank a couple of ideas how to get back to my original idea and assured me I would love it when it was finished. Well, I didn't. I actually thought it was awful and if Yelp let me post the photos I would absolutely do so. I called Joel the next day and he asked me to come in. We spoke about my tattoo and agreed with me that it didn't look good at all so we set up an appointment for several weeks later, after it healed, to fix it. He even said that if we needed to laser portions of it off to get it where it needed to be he would cover the cost. He promised me that in his 20 years he's never not been able to fix a tattoo and make a client happy and so, I took his word for it. The day of our scheduled appointment, he called and said that he felt he needed more time to design how he was going to "fix" this and to not plan on getting work that day as he just wanted to take "good pictures" so that he and his best artists could draw/photoshop the design. He said he would set me up for the following week. I did as he asked and left without setting up a time for the following week because he said he would FB messenger me with the pics he and his artists came up with. Well, the story pretty much ends there. No pictures, no phone calls, nothing. I called 3x and left 3 messages and sent 2 FB messages of my own over the course of the next month. Nothing. I called one last time this week, was told Joel was busy and I said I would hold. He immediately got on the phone talking a mile a minute telling me he had one picture to show me and if that didn't work we would go from there and could he send it via FB messenger and did I have FB?!?! Of course I said yes and he continued on about sending the picture and for me to let him know if I liked it and when he took a breath I simply said ok but when might we get started because you told me a month ago that I could come in the next week? I barely finished my sentence and he said to me, no joke... "You know what, on that I am no longer willing to work with you. You are just too difficult and I am no longer willing to try to help. Goodbye!" And just like that he hung up on me. I was shocked! I had done everything they asked because he assured me he could make this right. We hadn't had an argument about it or any in our talks tension because from the beginning he said he understood that it wasn't a good tattoo and he absolutely could make it better. I called back, after my jaw was no longer hanging open, no one answered. I would caution anyone about Good Family Tattoo. I read the good reviews and had faith in them. After this, I thought others should know that if someone there does make a mistake and it could happen, they will not fix it. Or maybe they just can't which is why he did what he did. After doing a LOT of research, we decided to go to Good Family for my daughters first ear piercing. (instead of Claire's)  We were fish out of water for sure but they were extremely nice and very encouraging to my apprehensive 9 year old. (Calling her a brave little toaster :) They had 2 piercers to minimize trauma and everything was clean and professional in a separate piercing room.  Afterwards, my daughter started to swoon and they caught her, sat her down and another worker went right to get her cold water.  The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 was because I called ahead and was told it would be $40. They didn't communicate that $40 is PER EAR. lol .  We also came the night before during the hours they had stated but the certified piercers had gone to a concert.  They did give us a slight discount for the inconvenience.  All in all, we will be back for my other daughters and prepared for the per piercing price. I've gotten both of my tattoos from here & had two different artists do them (also fabulous), but this review is about my septum piercing! Chloe was so great, she let two of my friends come back with me for moral support. She was so patient with me, being that this is my first piercing aside from my ears. She talked me through the pain & made everything go as quickly & as smoothly as possible! A friend took a video & it seriously took like two minutes. It looks perfect & I'm in love with how it turned out.I was going to dinner with my mom later & knowing she wouldn't want to see my piercing (I'm a great daughter lol) I tried to flip it on my own but it wouldn't go. I called the shop & Chloe told me to come in & she'd help me out. She opened up my hole a little bit more & taught me how to flip it & unflip it! This was my 6th tattoo and the 4th shop I've been to....and I will never go anywhere else for ink ever again! The owner Joel was really welcoming and hilarious from the moment we walked through the door. The music that was playing wasn't too loud or intense (unlike some other places) and the entire shop is super clean and neat. Sam is a freaking GOD! He drew up exactly what I wanted and the finished tattoo is beyond my wildest expectations. It's healing perfectly and I am so excited to come back to him for more. I put a down payment on for a very small quote. Then and decided i wanted it done at a different shop, I called and explained my situation and I didn't appreciate the attitude I got in return. I am SO happy I found this tattoo shop. Everyone there is so nice and friendly and super professional. The decor is fantastic, and the shop is ALWAYS so clean!! I'm getting a very, very, very large coverup piece done by Robin and it's absolutely beautiful! It covers up the entirety of the backs of my thighs, and there's a lot more work to be done. I love this place. I hardly feel comfortable in any tattoo shops, and I love this place. I had wanted a tattoo for a while and went to several different shops in the Chicagoland area to get a quote for my design and get a feel for the shop. I was willing to pay more for a shop that I felt comfortable in, but I didn't particularly like any of the shops that I visited, and most of them quoted me 200+ for what I wanted.I walked in to Good Family without an appointment and the staff was super friendly and greeted me right when I walked in- unlike the other shops I visited, where everyone stares at you and you have to use super-human radar to determine who actually works there. The staff at Good Family are talented artists and just quality people. I waited for a while since I didn't have an appointment, but I finally got in with John, who gave me a flawless tattoo and was not at all heavy-handed. And the price was extremely fair. Great Atmosphere here.  Everyone is really nice.  John is a great dude, laid back, down to earth, and seems to care. The reason for the low rating is as follows.  I had an appointment with John a couple months away due to my work schedule.  Well my job gave me 2 days off and a 10 day notice.  I went in to see if I could get done earlier and Henry was there. He was great and I decided to book with Henry for today since John had no availabilities for my half sleeve.  Come today.  I was nervous as this was my first tattoo in almost 10 years.  So because these guys were so great, I went and purchased a dozen donuts to bring in from a local bakery for everyone.  Everything was great, arrived at Noon like my appointment was.  This is when the waiting began.  I waited from 12 until about 1250 when Henry arrived back.  Henry finally greets me at about 110pm and says that he has some personal issue and isnt in the frame of mind to do any work.  Totally respectable but I have been mentally preparing and was ready to go, a phone call would of been nice.  So he tells me to hang on, and he starts drawing my half sleeve up.  I went up to see how it was going and asked if he could make one of my tattoos a little smaller.  He then just turns and tells me he just isnt into it today and he is sorry.  Once again, that is his right and I prefer him to be honest as a tattoo is permanent.  So thank you for that.  I asked for a refund for my deposit and went down to Chicago as there was an artist who had a cancellation.  So while I am not happy given the wasted 20 bucks in donuts, 10 bucks in gas, and 2 hours of my time, I got what I wanted in the end at another studio.  No hard feelings here, I am sure these guys are good at what they do, I have seen their work first hand.  Just didnt appreciate the way things went down.  Thanks Read Less

Best tattoo shop around.  The staff is great and embodies the word "family."  My wife and I can take our son in there and they play instruments with him, give him temp tattoos and make us all feel welcome.The shop and equipment is super clean.  Their artists are some of the best around.  I'm having a sleeve done by Nate.  There is also some touch up and cover up work he's doing as part of the sleeve.  Shop rates are very reasonable and this place is extremely popular.  I'd go in and make an appointment, rather than showing up expecting to get a tattoo that day!I wouldn't go anywhere else! I went here on the recommendation of my cousin. I was out in the area visiting her and decided it was a good idea to give getting a microdermal on my arm/wrist a second attempt after having a very, very bad experience with Twisted Tattoo (Chicago) the day before. Some may say I'm an idiot...I say I'm determined. LOL!Anyhow, the shop itself...AMAZING!!! I've seen only one or two others that can match up to the cleanliness and just overall quality appearance. The staff...SOOOOOO NICE! They were incredibly friendly and professional but not stiff. Joel, the owner, introduced himself to me and my friend, shook our hands, sat down to discuss what I was going to be getting. It was very professional but down-to-earth and friendly. The perfect balance, in my opinion. After we had that chat, he took us in the back so we could do the actual piercing. He let me pick out the jewelry...and had a good selection. Then, I sat down and he got to work. He uses a dermal punch...this being my first experience with one of those. He worked quick and got it in there with no problems. He kept communication going and made me feel very comfortable in his hands. Even though I'm not from the area, I will definitely be coming back to this shop!
