Wow they said my deposit wasnt refundable, they didnt say that at the beginning when i made the appointment, i could swear the receit said if i cancelled it like the day of or like w.e that then it wouldnt be refundable, but i cancelled it like 4 days ahead. This is a great place! I called ahead and they scheduled me a time to meet with Amy Porter. At our first meet, we went over what ideas I had and what ideas she had. It was a great collaborative experience. After emailing each other a few times, we got a final tattoo drawn up. I had a more elaborate tattoo (a penguin in a golf cart next to a sign) and it took 3 sessions to finish up. We stopped early one day as it was draining for me (coloring is rough!). Amy was super understanding and encouraged to not push myself. She was also super easy to talk to since we are both big nerds. The shop itself is super clean and open. Wow, I'm completely blown away by this shop from start to finish! I started looking around for a shop to do my first tattoo. After a handful of lukewarm responses, I was struck by the response I got from shop manager Sarah. Great, fast communication with a genuine interest in delivering me the best result possible. Fast forward to the day of my consultation with Amy, who had a beautiful portfolio rivaling artists with years more experience I've seen in other shops. The decor of the shop is great: colorful and bursting with the art of those who work there. Sarah was just as warm and welcoming as in her emails. Meeting Amy was a blast, she's a pleasure to be around and clearly wants you to feel comfortable. She's a painter and 3d artist, like most of the tattoo artists there. Her station was just as stimulating as looking through her tattoo portfolio. She really listened to ideas and gave positive feedback and helpful suggestions. She had a stencil ready for my second appointment that was everything I hoped for, sized and placed perfectly on the first go. After getting acclimated to being tattooed for the first time, the process was fast and painless. Very reasonable price for the quality of work and the experience as a whole. The tattoo has healed perfectly and I feel so lucky I went to Funky Rooster! My girlfriend also got tattooed that day, her fifth tattoo and she said the first time she really felt she was definitely going back to the same artist again for more work. I hold Funky Rooster and their staff close to my heart. Even though they don't know me personally, I love the place. The atmosphere is so welcoming and not as intimidating as other places out there. Their prices are great and reasonable. I got my first tattoo with Josue, who is super chill and a super talented artist. All of the tattoo artists here are great at what they do and I always tell all my friends and family about it. I've brought my brother with me and he's gotten a couple of tattoos done here as well. WOW. First let me say when you walk in, you feel like you're home. The artists' pieces line the walls, and you can really see a wide variety of their work. That's in addition to their individual portfolio books. I first did a tattoo here back in October, when my cat of 16 years passed away. The same day I walked in, i was able to get my memorial tattoo from Manny. The receptionist was kind and gracious, and Manny did a fantastic job! I was especially thankful because it was a short notice tattoo. And two days ago, I went in for a tattoo from Amy. She's so fun to talk to, even giving you a lollipop as a distraction :) She does such amazing work! They all do, really! I got in touch with Funky Rooster after my former ink shop decided not to treat me like a valued customer, and after my session with Manny I'm glad they did...because my skin has found its new home!The owners, Sarah and Manny, are a husband and wife team. They're both brilliant artists who also work in the shop, which is a HUGE added plus. Sarah is extremely friendly, professional, and accommodating. I sent a few pics, and both Sarah and Manny took the time to consult with me. They made sure we were on the same page about design and cost. I could tell right away this isn't some fly-by-night ink joint...these folks are true artists and caring business owners. They care about their customers and the beauty and quality of their art. They're the REAL DEAL  =)As for Manny and the quality of his work, I could go on for pages. For starters, he's NOT one of those stuck-up artists with a snotty, self-important attitude. He's very warm and welcoming and open to your ideas. I knew immediately he wanted my tat to look how I wanted it, not how HE wanted it, and that makes all the difference. He's very careful about his lines and colors, making 100% everything was straight and perfect and exactly how I imagined it. When he needed to redraw a few parts to make sure it was just right before putting it on my skin, he did so cheerfully and carefully, and it turned out exactly like I wanted it. Manny's skill, confidence, and versatility really shines in his work...he's no cheap "flash" tattoo artist. This guy has a true gift, and it shows!I'm extremely fussy and picky about my ink, and Manny's patience and understanding is almost saintly. Plus, he's humble about himself and his work. Very impressive for such an incredibly talented artist  =)The shop itself is amazing. Walking in, you're treated to a galaxy of gorgeous oil and acrylic paintings by Manny, Sarah, and Amy (Amy is a marvelous and friendly tattoo artist who also works there). Forget the old cliche "badass biker" atmosphere of other ink shops--this place is a paradise of good vibes, great art, relaxing music, and fun, welcoming people who are glad to know you! The shop is very clean and very convenient to access, with plenty of free street parking and a bunch of great little shops and local restaurants within easy walking distance (I had a delicious lunch at one of them before my appointment, but that's another review).As for cost, I won't quote specifics...let's just say it was wonderfully reasonable for the quality of work I received and the time Manny spent making sure everything was done to perfection, down to the tiniest details.I know where I'm going for my next tat, and where I'm sending my friends for their future ink: this place right here! Walked in here sometime last summer, on a weekend. I forgot her name but the lady greeted me right away when I came in through the door like an old friend who did not see me for a long time. I immediately felt welcome. I asked if they could accomodate my small cat in my wrist and yes, Artist Jose Manuel can do it!Jose Manuel was professional, soft spoken, real patient. I was unsure at first at the spot of my tattoo and he made sure I was happy with the placement because he said "you should be happy cos you're the one who's gonna wear it." That was impressive, it really meant he puts the client first. He didn't rush me or anything. Or I guess he really is a gentleman, at work or not. Tattoo wise - Jose Manuel has great attention to details. I liked how he did my little cat's whiskers and tail perfectly curled - very clean work. This tattoo arttist also was kind enough (or felt bad for me) to touch up my small little birds that were averagely done in a different tattoo shop:(All in all this is an outstanding local shoppe. My fiancé and I at the time stumbled across this place while riding our bikes through the neighborhood last week. We came home and searched for them here on Yelp. We read great review after great review. We saw Manny's name appear quite often in the reviews praising his work. We knew we would visit them one day, just needed a reason for a tattoo. Fast forward to April 4th. Me and my fiancé got married! So immediately afterwards, we decided we should both get ring tattoos with our special date. We decided to stop in Funky Rooster. I'm sooooo glad we did. The ENTIRE staff was inviting, friendly, and very patient. Sarah was hilarious the whole time! She took her time and searched for different fonts, different symbols, and more. She conversed with each of us while we took our turns getting our individual tattoos.We were fortunate to have Manny complete our tattoos. He took his time. He was comical and made sure we were comfortable during the process. Needless to say, my husband and I were completely satisfied with our new tattoos. I was in the market for another ink project when I came across Funky Rooster Tattoo and Art Gallery.  I read all the reviews on Yelp and I came across "Manny" who seemingly made a great impression with many of the customers.  Next, I decided to go onto their website to research each tattoo artist.  After finally coming to a decision on the artist, I contacted them.  Sarah, the receptionist, was very good about accommodating my schedule.  We sent a few text messages back and forth until we finalized the date.  I then sent them a picture of the piece I designed, as you can see below.  They gave me a very fair estimate (much less than a few of their competitors).  The piece I designed is a tribute tattoo in honor of my brother who recently passed away unexpectedly.  I was reminded that he was known to say "In HIS Grip" as a reference to his life being in the Lord's hands.  It definitely made sense to capture a piece of him specifically for this tattoo.  When I arrived for my appointment, the first thing I noticed was the beautiful and artistic paintings and wall decorations.  The shop was clean and very bright.  Sarah immediately greeted me by name when I walked further in.  She was all smiles and seemed genuinely happy to meet me.  She introduced me to Manny as if she and I were old friends.  It was very professional and refreshing actually.  Manny shook my hand and we discussed the tattoo in further detail.  He then took me to his work area.  Manny took my piece of paper with the design and made a stencil of it.  He prepped my arm in the usual fashion and placed the stencil onto my left forearm.  After removing it, we looked at the placement and came to the conclusion it was not properly centered.  He then happily wiped off the stencil and started over.  After the second time, he looked at the stenciling and came to his own conclusion the piece wasn't straight.  So, he happily wiped it off a second time and started over.  Manny clearly takes pride in his own work and was willing to do the extra work to make it as perfect as possible.  Finally, after the third time, we collectively were happy with the placement.  I asked Manny how long he felt it would take to complete the tattoo.  He estimated 40 minutes.  After finding the most comfortable position, Manny took over and began to develop his masterpiece.  The immediate experience I had was that this tattoo had very little pain.  I asked about it and Manny told me he recently upgraded to the newest technology in equipment.  Not only did it not hurt as much, I could barely hear any noise.  In fact, there was another person in the next chair over getting ink work done.  I couldn't tell if they were in the middle of the process or if they had finished already since I heard no noise.  It was very impressive.  Sometimes the sound alone can cause people anxiety; but with this equipment, that would definitely not be the case.  Although Manny felt it would only take him 40 minutes to complete the work, he actually under estimated the time by about 30 minutes.  Most people could possibly say that is a bad thing; in my opinion, with this tribute tattoo, he could have taken much longer if I knew the piece would be absolutely perfect.  He was extremely critical about the detail of his work.  Even when I thought we were done, he would say, "Let me do a little more work." and "Let me look over it for a few more minutes."  As you can see below, the finished product is near perfect.  As a perfectionist, I can't help but to pick out the smallest detail and ask for improvements.  However, I've NEVER met anyone as particular about their work as Manny.  I anticipate visiting him in the future if the itch for another piece should arise.  For now, I strongly recommend Funky Rooster Tattoo for all of you out there reading this review.  Tell everyone there that JC on Yelp sent you.  Take care and God bless!!! Okay so here's my take on funky rooster. I just turned 18 and I was doing a lot of research for getting my first tattoo. Someone recommended this place to me so i decided to go in and talk to them. The customer service was so good. The lady who was at the desk was super nice and super friendly. She listened to me and then talked to one of the artists. I talked to Sean Kim about what I wanted and about how much it would be. He said it would be about 100-150 depending on size. Which was pretty much the same as most places. They seemed really understanding and made sure they knew exactly what I wanted. I put a down payment and made an appointment for my birthday. My birthday came and I was running just about min late. I called them and they were understanding. I got there and we didn't have to wait. He got my tattoo printed up and it was a little bigger than I wanted to he made it smaller. It was perfect size. I was super nervous about getting my tattoo and they were super nice and great at calming my nerves. Actually getting the tattoo was crazy fun which is kinda weird. And Sean defiantly did an amazing job and he didn't take that long either cause it was a small tattoo. After I finished they gave me detailed instructions for after care. I went to pay for it and asked how much and it was only 70$. My tattoo has a lot of meaning behind it and I'm so happy because Sean did a awesome job!!! Read Less

This place was so wonderful. My two friends and I came here after another tattoo place cancelled our appointments at the last minute. I didn't know what to expect but Sarah welcomed us and told us we could all three get our tattoos right away. Sarah was so friendly (and had excellent taste in music and basically tailored her playlist to what my friends and I wanted to hear). Sean Kim was our tattoo artist and he was awesome.
