I have been going to Eric (the owner) for a few years now for my tattoos and I knew right after the first time that from there on out I would only let him tattoo me. He is an amazing artist that truly loves his customers. He listens to his customers and doesn't try to talk you into something you don't want. This place is great. I went in for my very first tattoo a week ago, and I've been raving about them to anyone who'll listen ever since! First off, the shop is INCREDIBLY clean, not a wisp of dust to be found, from what I could see. It was nicely decorated, as well. I wanted to bring the couch home with me, it was so comfy! One thing to help y'all out, they don't do over the phone appointments. You need to have your deposit ready in order to schedule one, and they don't do plastic. They DO do walk ins as well,  I just hate waiting, and I knew I'd be nervous, so I HAD to schedule an appointment. While Greg was making up my drawing (stencil?), he asked several times if he had the spelling of my kids names correct. I remember him asking at least one other time while he was tattooing me. Before we sat down, he reminded me that I didn't have to get it all finished in one session, just in case I wussed out. We got me situated in the chair, and he got to work. I kid you not, I barely felt it! I was terrified that it was going to be excruciating pain, and it felt like someone was running their fingernail over my skin. during the whole session, we chatted back and forth, Greg kept making sure I was alright, and before I knew it, 2 hours had passed, and I was done! When I looked at mt new artwork in the mirror (it's on my shoulder), I almost cried. It was exactly what I had envisioned. The colors, placement, everything. I couldn't have hoped for a better first experience in body art! I'm already planning my next one, and it's only been a week, haha.  I would definitely recommend Underground to anyone. Eric is an incredible tattoo artist! He tattooed the most beautiful and intricatly detailed mandala on my shoulder. The placement and design were perfect. I am still receiving daily compliments on my tattoo and have had it for well over a year now. He has also done another tattoo and piercing of mine, both of which healed nicely. Walked in for the first time today to check it out. Not to bad. Clean. Was greeted with friendliness and enthusiasm. Asked price of a basic lobe peirci by and was told 45$. Was a little sticker shocked. Ended up going to Wal-Mart to get it don't for 11$. Place may just be a bit out of my price range completely. Read Less

My son and I went to Underground on Monday (12/29/14) with my soon to be 18 year old son to consult with an artist about his first tattoo. A pretty big deal to my son, right?!  Unfortunately, we were met with a very dismissive man/artist who was more interested in kissing his girlfriend and placating her dinner needs.  He said he could not schedule an appointment with any artists on Friday (01/02/15), he did not want to look at my son's pic of his potential tattoo and he told us to, "Show up Friday and we will get you in to see someone at some time."  My son was disappointed as he was hoping to get some design input and schedule an appointment.  He left, but I stuck around to look at some flash.  While doing so, two girls came into the shop wanting matching tattoos. Not only did this man gave them is undivided attention and agree to look at their pics... consult about design...he agreed to them right then, right there?!?  If an artist doesn't respect for myself/my son to have a (maybe) ten minute conversation about his first tattoo...how can we trust that artist to take the time to ensure a quality tattoo?  Good for us, we quickly learned of the unprofessionalism of this place before permanent damage was done.  Too bad for them, I was prepared to pay $400.00 for my son's first tattoo.  Oh well, we went to another reputable shop in Edwardsville where we were taken seriously, treated with respect and tattoo appointment is scheduled!! I went to Underground to get a memorial Gemini tattoo for my dad who passed away from lung cancer. Paul listened to what I wanted and gave advice on what would look best. He used my dad's favorite color and mine and created a beautiful tribute to my father. My mom came with me and Paul regularly brought her into the conversations so she felt part of the process and was very comfortable. He also retouched a previous tattoo while I was there and did so without feeling the need to critique former work. The shop was very clean and the staff immediately friendly and helpful when you walked in the door. I now live in Chicago and I'll be driving the 6 hours back for my next piece of art. Read Less

Underground was good.the environment was laid back and all the artists were extremely nice and helpful.I didn't feel freaked out going in there.I got my belly button pierced and my first tattoo done there.I am extremely satisfied with the results.everything there is very clean, so clean that you can literally smell the cleaning products.I had such good experiences there that I plan on going back.I would recommend this place to anyone looking to get piercings or tattoos. Underground Artworks is the best tattoo studio I have ever been to (and I've been to 3 including Iron Age which is very well known). The guys are awesome and extremely talented. So far I have been tattooed by Raven and Thom and I'm not stopping there. I recommend anyone looking to get a tatoo in the area go there and only there. I live in Missouri and would travel to Illinois to see those guys anytime. Don't go anywhere else for tattooes, you won't be sorry! Read Less

Since I've been older I have also gotten three tattoos by Eric, including my knuckles which he did free hand. I have had 7 tattoos done by Eric at underground artworx. My newest is over 8 years old and my oldest is 14 years. I will stand by and swear on their work. My tattoos are big and very colorful. All look like they did the day I got them. 14 years and no touch ups!!! You can't beat that! No water down colors. If you want a great piece of art then forget all the hype and go to Underground Artworx in Edwardsville!! I have had people from jade dragon( big shop in Chicago )comment on how great mine look.
