I went to skin gallery to get a piercing removed before a procedure and I was very happy with the service. I went to another shop closer to home and the piercer had already left an hour before close. So I called Skin Gallery and the gal who answered the phone explained the piercer was booked, but that he could still help (such a relief!) The piercing was super hard to get out because I (admittedly) did not replace it for a while. I know it sounds stupid but the kindness of the apprentice wishing me well on my procedure and the fact that the piercer didn't make me feel guilty or act annoyed about my lack of caring for my piercing really struck good in my book.  I was so nervous I wouldn't be able to get it taken care of and they really impressed me. Made an appointment to get matching tattoos with my cousin, who was driving 3 hours in from out of town. I called twice throughout the day to confirm the appointment with no answer or return call. 30 MINUTES before our appointment (that was scheduled days in advance), as we were already on our way, I finally get a text from someone saying the shop was closed for the day. I went to Elouise to get a cover up done. She covered most of the old work, but the new tattoo looked nothing like what I said I wanted. The paw print looks scribbled, the colors are not placed where I said I wanted them, also they were supposed to look like watercolor, but instead looks like a child scribbled on me. I had gone to her in the past to get a simple cross, and it turned out well. Hence why i trusted her with this one. She claimed to be good at coverups and watercolor, but that just isn't the case. I highly recommend this place for piercings and tatts. The people there are awesome AF. Place is very clean. Workers aren't pushy and are very knowledgeable. There are places closer to where I live but this gallery is worth the drive. This is the only place I'll go and the only place I'll take my daughter for her piercings. And I suggest you check out Eloise for your ink. She touched up my 20+ year old tat yesterday and brought it back to life and then some. Eloise also is so gentle while inking. I've gone to Skin Gallery for most of my facial piercings, and I've always had a great experience there. They are quick, everything is sanitary, and they're understanding if you tear up a bit. There's also no tax on the price of piercings! My brother got his septum pierced here a couple years ago and did not have the same great experience I have had. I've been here in the past (about a year ago) for a nose piercing (done by Bear) and the experience was absolutely wonderful, great dude.For my second visit I had my daith done.  First let me start off saying that the receptionist was completely rude, almost felt walking right out when she "greeted" me.  I believe Gennesis was my piercer this time around.  She was very friendly.  Though she did not really warn me how painful the daith was going to be, not that big of an issue, it's a piercing, it's gonna hurt.My issue was once she was done, she pumped so much saline into my ear that it caused a blockage.  I was temporarily deaf for 2 days!  I eventually had to go to a doctor to flush out my ear.  Extremely unpleasant and uncomfortable. I came here to get my ears pierced (which were my first piercings ever) and I was initially nervous and wasn't sure what to expect of this place or the people who work there. However, it goes to show that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover because despite the dark feel and horror movie decor and me being an ultra clean cut prep, I had a great experience. If I could rate no stars I absolutely would. Here is my experience. I decided I wanted to get my first tattoo and I knew that there were a lot of great tattoo artists at this location, little did I know they all left before I went here to get my tattoo. I went inside and I was greeted and I stated how I wanted to get my first tattoo. It was a simple tattoo, just a quote. So Eloise (I believe that's how you spell her name) said she would be able to help me out with my tattoo. She gave me a price of $75 dollars. At the time I thought that was great, me being a senior in high school with a nice new tax refund. So, we set up an appointment day and a time. I get there at the scheduled time and she's still working with someone and I thought that was fine. I told her previously what my quote was, but she never even wrote the tattoo out until I got there. So as I was waiting, she started writing it out onto LINED paper, so there should be no excuse for my tattoo to be crooked or anything. She placed it on my arm and we were all set to go. I sit down and I was very nervous. She started at the very end of the quote and worked her way up, which I found kind of interesting. As she was tattooing me I felt very lightheaded and very sick, and I told her I feel light headed but she kept going until she was done with the letter she was working on. I passed out on the chair and she wasn't doing anything about it really. I got water from my boyfriend who was there with me and he gave me a lollipop. I went to the front of the shop just to lay down for a couple minutes just so I can get some color back into me. As I'm laying there, just being passed out, she comes out and she said "How is she doing?" And before my boyfriend could even finish my sentence she just walks back to her tattooing station. She's now talking with her next client and she couldn't care less about me. So after she was done she wrapped it up and it was fine. After the peeling process I noticed so many of the lines are completed faded away, almost to the point where you can't hardly see them. The lines are crooked, she wasn't even going over the same spot of the letters, she would either go above or under the letters. So unprofessional. I have never went back since. I do not trust her putting anymore ink on my body.Let's just say you get what you paid for. Read Less

I dunno. I've had four tattoos done here by JR and some other guy who is apparently known for his lettering. All of them have had to be fixed by my new artist in some way or another. My piercings were always okay, but that was when Kris was still there (who is now at Tomato Tattoo). I can tell you that regardless of whether or not you have an appointment, I've gone all the way over just for JR to tell me that he was busy with someone else and that he never told me he'd do my piece that day (even though I had email proof that he definitely did). Also, there's always a huge smell of pot coming from the back where they all hang out, and let me tell you--I couldn't care less if you wanna smoke pot, but I'd prefer someone who is about to pierce or permanently tattoo me isn't high as hell.I don't recommend this shop much at all. I went in the other day for an inner lip tattoo and had the tattoo artist, male, say he's done dozens and it will never fade because of the "way he does it". My ink has now bled all over my inner lip like a pen has exploded and I have googled it and there is an answer to the same situation saying that he was inexperienced and went too deep on my skin and punctured the fat tissue causing the ink to bleed. So basically the whole tattoo is ruined and it was a waste of 70 dollars. I also got a tattoo on my finger and the ink has had the same type of effect but not as extreme, still disappointed.  Definitely don't recommend. Read Less

Me and my friend went to get simple tattoos! An inner lip tattoo that turned out horrible. It looks like a pen exploded in the lip and its a big blochy dark spot of ink now. First off let me say I've been going to this shop for nearly 10+ years and have sent friends and family here as well. unfortunately, kenny and bear who always did our piercings are no longer here. I have been getting tattooed by Mikey for nearly 5 years now and have plenty of large scale work and will not go to anyone else. this past year when coming into the shop i would hear the artists talking about the owner and didn't think anything of it until my last appointment which had to be rescheduled due to the power being shut off. its unfortunate being a place that i grew up at! i will follow Mikey and the piercers elsewhere. I was so anxious when I walked in with my friend to get a belly button piercing. Brent was so professional, extremely knowledgable and friendly. He immediately put me at ease and talked to me about the process of the piercing, and the post care! He showed me the sterile instruments they use and was very professional while performing the piercing always making sure I was doing ok and constantly letting me know what he is going to do next. Went to skin Gallery to see about a tattoo.  Spoke with MARTIN GARZA.  Gave our tattoo idea...he said to come back in a week and he would have sketch ready.   He DIDN'T..." Oh, I FORGOT IT AT HOME" He said...(mistake #1), he said he would send a picture text...three hours later we receive some bogus, unfinished, sloppily drawn  sketch (mistake # 2).  This guy had AN ENTIRE WEEK  to prepare. He didn't!   He kept our $40 deposit....for giving no service what so ever.  I Can only speak of MARTIN GARZA and not the business as a whole.  MARTIN GARZA showed himself to be WHOLLY UNPROFESSIONAL, ILL PREPARED, A LIAR,  UNCARING OF POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS, UNTRUSTWORTHY so OF COURSE WE CANCELED....No one should have to deal with this jerk who is obviously of poor character. This shop has always been busy in my experience, so prepare to wait a bit if you want to get something done. This wait is absolutely worth it if you want your piercings and tattoos done right! The shop is clean and all of my needs were met every visit. I've gotten three tattoos here, all with predetermined (not made by the tattoo artist) designs and got exactly what I wanted. All of my tattoos have been relatively simple designs in black ink with a few fine lines. That being said, Joe Real, Rob, and AJ all were all great picks for the job! Joe Real did my first tattoo on my chest and was very awesome at helping me deal with some first tattoo jitters. My work from him looks great! He got it just right and was fast without compromising the tattoo's quality. Basically, each artist placed my tattoos perfectly and they all made sure each design was what I wanted before and after tattooing me. They were also all very patient with resizing the art I brought in and making sure the designs fit on the parts of my body I wanted them on. No matter who I went to the quality of service was great and their dedication to making sure I walked away happy was the same. I also have gotten my nose pierced here and seen others get pierced here. I've brought in many a friend looking to get stuff done. Both Bear and Kris are fast and clean, and know their stuff. I got my first tattoo with MikeyLo, after my cousin recommended him. I was super anxious and didn't know what to expect. Mike walked me through the whole thing, told me it wouldn't be as bad as I imagined in my head, and created exactly what I had in mind. My tattoo only took about 20 minutes, and I absolutely love it. The place is clean and welcoming. All the other artists were friendly as well. I was amazed by all of the artwork on display there; it made me wish I could be more ballsy and do something super fun, like a cartoon character. But, alas, I'm too chicken. ;-)I would've given it 5 stars, but the parking lot blows. I know they can't really control that, but they should try and get a bigger space for parking. AWFUL. I went into skin gallery and asked for a front helix piercing and a mid piercing. The guy who did my piercings did not explain to me how to tighten or loosen the earring, pierced the front helix completely wrong, and the earring he used for my mid piercing stretched the hole out so much that the "diamond" part of the earring was completely in the hole. A week after my piercings I had to go into ask them to take my front helix out and two weeks after that my mid. No refund. $60 wasted and two infections. Read Less

Let me start off by saying that I have been to a few bad tattoo shops but never left a bad review.With that being said, I wouldn't waste your money at this place. I went in one day looking to get a tattoo and I dealt with Max. I took a look at his portfolio and and spoke with him for a while on what I wanted and set a date with him to get it done(2 days later)When I got there we confirmed the size of the piece and the price and got to work. Half way thru the tat he said he was gonna stop and that I could come back two weeks later to finish, at no addition charge of course because he had another appointment. I agreed with him to do that (he seemed like a honest kid)Two weeks went by and I emailed him for the next date to come in. He responded 3 days later and said "let's do next week. What day?" I responded and told him a day. I didn't get a response from him until the day after I suggested. His excuse was that he was "busy" so I shot for another date. No response from the email for 5 days. I called the shop 4 different days trying to get ahold of him with no luck. I emailed him again. No response. I called again. Still no luck. Finally I emailed him saying that he obviously had no interest in finishing the piece. With still no response I will gladly take the loss and write this review. Love Skin Gallery. Went in after my friend recommended me to them after he got some piercings done. Walked in around 4pm with no appointment, signed the form and showed my ID, got my piercings done. Bear did a great job on my piercings. I was comfortable and before getting them I was well informed of the procedure along with healing and aftercare. The shop is very clean and staff are certified and use sterile tools including gloves. Definitely will be going back with a couple of my friends for their piercings and probably get another one or two myself. Thanks Bear for my piercings I love them! Read Less

The shop's appearance is nothing special. There are some nice artworks on the walls. There are pieces from former artists still up. The customer service here isn't that great. Most of the time it takes a while for one to get helped because no one is really up front. The place usually smells of cigarettes among other things. The piercer, Kris Hackenson, was the only reason I would go there. He is the only person that has ever done my piercings and will continue to be. He does quick, easy and good work. He is also a fun person to talk to. After fifteen years of working there, he isn't working there anymore. I did not have an appointment when I came so I waited a decent amount of time before someone saw me. I didn't walk out because I'd chickened out too many times before and the artists seemed nice so I decided to stay. I ended up getting tattooed by Eloise who was finishing up someone and had done a good job on him so I figured I was in good hands. I wanted a tat on my ankle and brought in a pendant of the same symbol and they xeroxed it and blew it up so it'd be easier to trace. She took her time and made sure it was right, and gave me a great price on my tattoo and after care instructions. I'm still happy with my tat to this day and even though it hurt like hell, I'm happy I knocked that off of my bucket-list. I showed up at Skin Gallery for their Friday the 13th $20 tattoo special.  I had never heard of Skin Gallery before, so I figured this would be a good way to test the waters and check out a new shop.  I'm definitely no stranger to tattoos, I have over 25 already.  The Friday the 13th event wasn't as hectic as I imagined.  I anticipated a very long line outside the shop with no parking within a quarter mile in any direction.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that there weren't that many people (under 30) and there were multiple artists, not just two like some other shops have. They were really nice people and they were totally professional.  The artists had images to choose from.  There were multiple varieties of jewelry for piercings, too (not included in the $20 special).  I chose an image, had the stencil applied, and waited just a few more minutes, then went back to the tattoo artist.  I got AJ.  His room was very cool, lots of art work on the walls and some in the corner.  It's cool because it seems like every artist has their own unique spin on art and their own style.  AJ was very clean and never touched anything to contaminate his work (I've seen some guys at other shops wipe sweat or grab dirty pens and then try to go right back to tattooing).  He was very precise and my tattoo looks amazing!I will be going back to Skin Gallery for more work.  I also got to see Mikey Lo in action tattooing someone's arm (same day).  His room has a ton of cool art on the walls, too.  Lots of stuff to stare at and take your mind off the pin pricks :)  He's also got a really bad ass Triggerfish in his room.I honestly loved everything about Skin Gallery! I got a tattoo done here years ago by rob and eloise along with a few others. I'm going to start off with saying if it wasn't for the other new artists there (mikey and Joe Real) i would have not went back. My tattoos from rob and eloise look really bad and was going to go somewhere else to get them fixed but some friends went to skin gallery recently and got really nice bright tattoos! i was amazed and asked who did them and they said joe. I was trying to look on the website (which was not of help and should be addressed) so decided to stop in. Joe ended up reworking the whole tattoo that eloise did and made it gorgeous!! the tattoo doesn't even look real! (in a good way) I was so happy with the result i went back to have him fix another but he was busy and that was when i met mikey. He sat down with me and said this is what we can and cant do and was very patient with me and once finished it was amazing! he told me he would make it look like a sticker and he was absolutely right! Kris is also a great piercer and i have always went here for piercings! In the end I give skin gallery 5 stars because of the end result. I got my nose pierced by Kris at Skin Gallery and he was great. He  never gave me a chance to get nervous because he pierced it so fast ,and  it didn't even hurt. They were very clean and I love how they pierce you with a small diamond rather than a huge stud like some of my friends got when they went somewhere else.  A couple weeks later it got irritated because I bumped it one to many times and it formed a bump in front of the piercing. A friend of mine made an appointment to get a tattoo- this was in celebration of her birthday. The appointment was for the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. A few days before the appointment, my friend met with the artist and gave him a picture of what she wanted. We showed up on Saturday at the time of the appointment only to find a sign on the door that they had decided to close for Memorial Day weekend. We could not believe how unprofessional this was. They didn't even bother calling her to cancel. Luckily, we were able to go somewhere else where the service was impeccable, and they were able to help her get exactly what she wanted. Maybe business is so good for Skin Gallery that they don't have to worry about professionalis, customer service, maintaining appointments and good will, or making money. That being said, I would recommend that you go somewhere for your tattoos where they actually want your business. This isn't it. Read Less

I've seen a quite a few tattoos done by this place on friends and acquaintances.Not one of them is happy either with the work or the price.I'm not sure how many artists they have or who did the tattoos I've seen but what I've seen seem rushed and at best amateur.If you're 18 years old and want to go pick something off the wall that you've only thought about for a whopping 4 minutes then it might be a decent fit. I have gotten all of my tattoos here at Skin Gallery and they are all fabulous! I have 3 of them and they were all done by the artist 'Joe'. He's is an amazing artist and he does an great  job! The ink still looks fresh and the oldest one is about 3 years old. It is extremely clean inside and the tools they use are brand new as well. Everyone in there is really nice and social. Especially if you get piercings there, Chris is really really cool! He makes all of your experiences really memorable and funny!Definitely give this place a try and atleast check it out! Read Less

They did a great job on my piercing. If you are looking to have a piercing done with a sterile needle and a precise hole without infections or enlarged holes then this is the place to get it done. The prices aren't unreasonable and the staff are helpful. I don't have anything positive to say about Skin Gallery. I happened upon it one night with a few friends of mine and wanted to get a small tattoo done for the heck of it (I already had 17 of them). I had heard nothing about this shop but decided to go in anyways - HUGE MISTAKE. The shop down the street has a reputation of being a little too expensive for the suburbs - but at least it has a reputation. That's something to think about. You'd think that, with having 17 tattoos already, that I would've been a little more cautious of who was doing my artwork. Well, my judgement was off. An artist at Skin Gallery did three of my tattoos - and let's just say that after the final tattoo, I would never go in there again. As a matter of fact, I left the tattoo unfinished because of my experience, and am having it completed at a shop elsewhere.The first night I went in, I met a tattoo artist by the name of Rob, who saw the picture I had brought in and gave me a quote for it. Since there were a few of us getting tattooed by him that night, he gave us a break on the prices. Great, I thought! I was the first to get tattooed and, after the tattoo was done, I was pleasantly surprised. The color appeared to be great, the lines appeared to be straight, etc. The next night I walked into Skin Gallery alone and had Rob do my 18th tattoo. After being there the night before, he gave me another break on this tattoo. I told him what I wanted and he did it - it's nothing major and didn't necessarily require talent. Again, the colors appeared to have come out vivid and the lines appeared to have come out straight.Two weeks later, while my other tattoos were still in the healing process, I went to Rob for the third time with a custom piece that I wanted done. When I brought him the artwork and he saw what I had wanted, he again gave me a break on my tattoo. Please bear in mind that I had seen some of his other work (his portfolio, while I was there the first time) and it appeared to be well done, so I didn't necessarily go into this blindly. He had experience tattooing big pieces, ornate pieces and colorful pieces - so I figured, what the hell! My other two tattoos hadn't finished healing yet but, from the looks of them, they were fine. I gave him the go ahead.When I had first walked into the shop, Rob didn't mention that he thought my tattoo would take more than one session. I knew that it was a big tattoo, but I sit very well for them and figured that he'd knock it out in one night. He started tattooing me and, after two hours of tattooing (with a few breaks in between), decided that he would have me come back to have the tattoo finished. I was incredibly confused by the fact that he was stopping the process, but noticed that he looked absolutely exhausted and he was a tad bit shaky when cleaning up. Yeah, not a good sign. He wrapped up my tattoo and told me to come back in a few weeks to finish it. I saw what he had done in the mirror and it looked good (through the saran wrap).Fast forward a few weeks when my first two tattoos done by Rob had healed. After the scabs had fallen off and the true tattoos were showing, I was horrified to see that my lines weren't straight and that my color appeared to be extremely faded. Out of 17 previous tattoos, I had NEVER had color fade so quickly on my tattoos. I knew, right then and there, that I would not have Rob finish my third tattoo as planned. However, that thought was further confirmed once my third tattoo fully healed. Although it had looked great immediately after being done when the lines were true black and raised due to swelling, it became incredibly apparent that Rob shouldn't have been tattooing that night. I don't know if it was that he was tired or on some substance, but he ruined my tattoo - which obviously means a part of my body as well.The lines of the third tattoo are absolutely horrible. There are areas where ink is actually missing, there are many areas where the lines become bumpy and it became truly obvious that Rob freehanded an area of my tattoo without my prior approval. It looks HORRIBLE. Keep in mind that this tattoo is QUITE large and is on a very OBVIOUS part of my body. Every tattoo artist who has seen this "masterpiece" has told me that it needs to be entirely redone. That's nice, huh? It's great that an experienced tattoo artist who talks himself up to be one of the best in the suburbs took my money and drew on me like a first grader in art class.If you go to Skin Gallery, do not get tattooed by Rob. It's a waste of your time and you will be left with a permanent reminder of how stupid you were. Read Less
