Love, love, love this business. I've gotten 5 tattoos from Family Tattoo from 3 different artists, and I'm always incredibly impressed with the quality and the fairness of price. Bob is awesome! He is an excellent artist with great ideas. I came to him with a simple idea, and he made it a million times better than what I had envisioned. Jason is super intricate and has the LIGHTEST TOUCH. I also saw one of their guest artists who put a cool kewpie doll on my arm. My friend visits Heath on the reg, and I've seen some excellent work from him, too. What really puts this business over the top for me and what keeps me coming back is the genuine friendliness and non-judgmental attitude this shop possesses. The name of the business is exactly how it feels whenever you walk in. I've been to tattoo shops where the guys are too cool for school douchelords. Lee has done a great job in shaping this shop to feel comfortable, friendly, and accessible to EVERYONE. Being impulsive, I walked in on a Sunday to get a tattoo. I decided that day I wanted one. I was in Chicago with my family and wanted to see what I could find. This shop popped up on google so I called to see what their shop minimum was. Being not expensive, I decided to go here because they also take walk-ins. This was the best decision ever. Heath is the one who did my tattoo and I strongly recommend him. I got an American taditonal off the wall. They have super reasonable prices and they are all extremely welcoming. I wish my experience had been better, as it was my first tattoo, but some recent work done here has left me extremely disappointed. Those feelings were validated after I showed the piece to another tattoo artist who was able to point out just how much Belmont Family missed the mark. There are tattoos, and then there is quality body art. I was looking for the latter and got a sloppy version of the former.I honestly think it was a case of the artist not being able to create the piece I wanted, which is fine. I just wish he would have been honest and told me that.Tattoos are intended to be forever, so to have such a poor level of craftsmanship on this piece shows a real lack of concern. To make matters worse, I had follow up questions that have gone unanswered. It's inexcusable to be inattentive to questions about permanent mistakes that were made, and the lack of accountability is alarming.I definitely need corrections done, but there's no way I would ever consider returning here for them. The staff is indeed friendly, and other Yelp reviewers seem to be pleased with the work here, but I cannot - nor will I ever - recommend it to anyone else. Read Less

I called the shop on Sunday to see if I could walk in. They were busy but suggested I come back the next day. I walked in Monday and had a great experience. I had Jason as my artist and he was patient and thoughtful and gave me a great tattoo! I will definitely be back next time I'm in Chicago. I was here about a year ago got a beautiful peicee done by Health Rave the color were beautiful and the tattoo is still beautiful and vibrant, it's a very clean place and they are willing to do an appointment with you and work within your budget. Very upfront about the styles that they so and each guy has his speciality and are willing to let you know if they can or can not do a certain style and always willing to refer you to one of the guys at the shop that does the style you're looking for and what you want. Having been tattooed at a couple different shops in the city, I can honestly say without a doubt, that Family Tattoo has been my favorite. Before I started getting tattooed regularly, it was a major plus to walk into a place with familiar faces as most of the original staff has been involved in the hardcore/punk community for many years. While the cast has slightly changed, I've had work done by Bill Smiles, Daniel Tipton, Nole Schuyler, and a pal of mine who recently guest ...spotted from Russia, Greg Edge. All of these dudes took their time in making sure the custom artwork that I came up with, or the flash that I selected was exactly the way I wanted it instead of trying to push their own respectable visions. Pricing is very, very reasonable and these cats have been in the game long enough to the point where they could technically be charging more. So, appreciate it while it lasts. While I can't explain why, there's always been something special about walking into Family Tattoo. Yelp sucks but Family Tattoo doesnt, way worth taking my time out to just give a thank you to the incredible staff here for always being comforting and making great art. I have been thinking about getting another tattoo for years. I highly recommend this place to EVERYONE after my sessions with Nole. The shop is clean, super friendly staff and sanitary. It's a nice clean shop, it's all about making your tattoo beautiful and fit you. They're not into busting your pockets they work you to give you a beautiful art piece that's filled with levels of deep color. I had my Tattoo done by Heath Rave, which is beatiful and I'm able to add more to it. There is levels of colors blended to give my tattoo shades of color. Reason why I say Excellent. The overall shop itself has a nice feel to it with tattoo designs and ideas and each artist has his specialty, they do sit and do a consult with yoy to discuss you tattoo Ideas and what you want.
