My sister and I walked in with piercings in mind but he was able to explain why they wouldn't work with our anatomy and suggested a forward helix and conch for me instead of an industrial. This shop is incredibly clean and professional. Brent is also an amazing piercer. He did several piercings for my friends and family and pierced my nostril as well. Went in tonight to get my nostril pierced after hearing great things about them from my friends. Met with Brent a really nice guy who did my piercing. It was funny he knew exactly which side I wanted done before I could even say anything. I was really impressed with watching all the pieces come out of packages and watching the jewelry getting sterilized, you know you're at a good place when they show you everything and even make sure you see them throw out the needle. My experience here was phenomenal. When I went in to schedule an appointment for a tattoo (my first tattoo), they were flexible and personable. I also noticed it is super clean and people were even cleaning while I was there. They recommended David. David took my "inspiration" picture and drew up even better artwork than the original. This was a semi-large tattoo, so he walked me through everything and was the best possible person I could have asked for to do my first tattoo. I wasn't in a ton of pain and the price was very reasonable (the price was given to me before the work started). My tattoo looks incredible, I couldn't love it more. I took my daughter here to get her ears pierced because we wanted a more sterile, safe, professional piercing experience than we could ever get at Claire's. Brent B. certainly made that happen! He provided an initial consultation where we got to meet him, learn more about the titanium, American-made jewelry that he uses, the piercing process, and non-toxic after care. He made us feel very comfortable and we were able to set up an appointment. Our appointment was not at all rushed. He talked my daughter through every step of the process and, despite a couple of tear from the initial pinch, our appointment was a breeze! I LOVE that my daughter's ears experienced a lot less trauma than they would have by being pierced with a gun. I also LOVE the fact that she will be able to keep the earrings she received today forever! The jewel is interchangeable with the same posts...brilliant! As many other commenters have said, Brent B is great. I first interacted with this shop a few years ago when I went for a piercing consultation I ultimately didn't pursue (for reasons completely unrelated to Rising Phoenix). At the time I was impressed with their knowledge and honesty, so when I recently decided to start another project they were the first shop I considered. Time has clearly worked in their favor as they have only improved since then. I've gotten several piercings from different shops over the years and Brent definitely goes above and beyond to make his customers happy, relaxed, and (above all else), safe. Went in with my sister who just turned 18. She was super excited about her first tattoo but the assholes working there took her excitement away. Only two people working and didn't even acknowledge us when we walked in. I had to get the guys attention then he said they can't talk because they are busy working which is understandable but they didn't even say come back later or set up a tattoo appointment. This is a pretty late review and I typically don't leave bad reviews but I felt the need to after my recent discovery. I got piercings a few years ago and had the most uncomfortable experience. My good friend came with me to get them done and was also mortified. I was taken to a cluttered and small back room with very little space. The man who did my piercings made very crude and inappropriate comments the entire time. He assured me that the jewelry that I paid a good amount of money for would last a lifetime. Lied. After numerous rounds of antibiotics, tetanus shots and a hell of a lot of pain... I just removed both piercings. What did I find? A completely corroded barbell. I am so angry that this place supplied me with jewelry that has had me in so much pain and discomfort for so long. I had my first tattoo here as well and needless to say I have to get that removed as well. This is the most shady, inconsiderate and untrustworthy place I know. Great customer service. I walked right in. Did not need an appointment.  I told them what i wanted, a few drawings I was set to go. Clean work stations and very friendly staff. Another artist came over and took pictures for me. He did everything to make sure I was happy with the finished product and took extra care to not dig in the skin. I went in two weeks ago today and had both my nipples pierced. The whole process of signing the forms, getting the piercing, and paying maybe took 20-30 mins after I waited for a few people ahead of me. Anyways, it is pricy but in my opinion worth it. They can color the jewelry at no cost, and so instead of silver I got the barbells done a cool purple color. Brent was very informative and answered any questions I had and he did a great job! Obviously it hurt, but two weeks later, washing them with the solution (which they sell in shop for $8) I have no pain at all and they look healed already! They were sore for maybe about a week, and then totally fine! I definitely recommend this place for piercings! Read Less

This is the only place I'll go for piercings. I got my tragus done by Brent back in March and everything was awesome. I felt super comfortable the whole time and knew exactly what was going. I had to go back today to get some jewelry put back and to purchase a new piece for my rook, and the service was just awesome. I'll be going back in a few weeks for my other tragus piercing!! I did my homework and found Brent B at Rising Phoenix. He was awesome. He was super polite, patient and answered all my questions. Very sterile environment, using only the highest quality jewelry is what drew me to the shop. If you're looking for the cheapest place, he's probably not your guy. You get what you pay for and you're going to have this jewelry for years to come, so go with the good stuff the first time and save yourself the headache later. I brought my daughter and her friend into the studio for navel piercings from a referral. We were greeted by Brent and he proceeded to explain the jewelry options. They chose their jewelry and filled out the necessary forms. Brent then began explaining the healing process and precautions. We have an upcoming trip to the caribbean within the healing window which we had not previously realized. This could have been a lay down sale for Brent but he would not advise us to go forward with the piercings as it could risk a potential infection. This man was extremely knowledgable, patient and professional while answering all of our questions and addressing our concerns. His primary concern was them having a safe piercing while maintaining proper hygiene and healing. It is rare for a business to let an "easy sale" walk out the door in order to error on the side of caution and what is safe for the client. He never lost his patience with us as we went back and forth for quite some time. The studio was very well maintained and clean. They are in the process of moving next door but there was not a spec of dust to be found. The staff was friendly and it is a great atmosphere. I had called another place in the area before we went for pricing and questions. The contrast was stark to say the least. They were rude, unprofessional and impatient with answering concerns.  The price was less however; you get what you pay for. I will choose quality, safety and professionalism every time!  We will definitely be back after the summer when the risk of infection from swimming is no longer an issue. Read Less

He was very quick, very professional and didn't give me a hard time for trying to do it myself in the first place. I went here on a Thursday night and had Brent G as my artist. I told him my daughters name, which I wanted to get tattooed on my leg, and I liked the sketch he drew on the first try. The whole tattoo took maybe 20 minutes, and the whole time Brent was making great conversation and keeping me at ease. It was actually fun. I was recommended to Rising Phoenix by my friend who had gotten a tattoo done there a few weeks prior.  I called to see when David, whom my friend recommended, was available, and had a very helpful conversation on the phone where I was told when he would be working next and that I could put a deposit down to make a set appointment or go in when he was there because enough artists would be working so I could meet with David with no wait.Everyone in the shop was very friendly and welcoming, and David helped us as soon as we walked in.  He listened to exactly what I wanted, looked at a picture I brought in, and took his time drawing something up for me.  When I asked him to make a couple of changes to the drawing, he was great at listening to what I thought and drew exactly what I wanted.The tattoo was hardly painful at all and David was great at making sure I was doing okay during the process, calming my nerves, and explaining everything that he was doing.  The price of the tattoo was very reasonable as well, and David told me what the price would be before he started the tattoo.  I could not be more happy with my tattoo and I will recommend Rising Phoenix and David to anyone who is interested in getting a tattoo. I never review anything, but I can't let this one go: please, please research before you get tattoos! I walked in to Rising Phoenix on my birthday for what I assumed was a simple tattoo that would be impossible even for an apprentice to mess up - I learned my lesson!!! I received the worst quality tattoo I've ever seen, and not only was I lied to regarding the shop minimum and duped into paying a ridiculous amount of money for a 1-inch tattoo, I now need to pay to have it removed and redone by an actual professional. It's one thing to swindle some extra cash when the shop is empty on a Saturday night, but at least provide a decent tattoo for it! This shop is where my sister went to get her tattoo which I got for her passing last year. I was not treated different because I was a girl. The healing process was less than great but that can be blamed on me as well. I'm happy I went to themAbout a month and a half later I also got my semi colon tat behind my ear. That was completely painless and took only 5 minutes. Downside is they have a 60 dollar minimum. At least that is what they wanted for mine. All in all the place is clean and they play movies all day which is nice to watch while your getting tattooed no one can come up next to you on the chair which is nice for a distraction free environment for the artist sad if you want someone with you. Just got my front helix done. I wanted to get the triple done but my ear is a little bit small for that so I just got the two done and it looks beautiful. It was my first time there. I actually called a little bit ahead of time just to make sure they take master card and they do. When I got there they said hello and asked what I wanted done. I told them that I had called and the guy remembered me. So he got Brent B. for me. He was very informative and helpful. While I was getting pierced he was very nice and concretely reassured me that if at anytime I change my mind I could just let him know but he did a wonderful job. He also informed  me how to clean it and if anything I can always come in and let him have a look at it if need be or to just call. Love this place and would defiantly recommend people to go here. It is a little pricy but it's totally worth it. If you do use a credit card it'll be an extra charge of $3. They have a $40 service charge and if you are getting more then one piercing done its $20 for additional's. Also depending on what jewelry you want it would be an extra $20, $25 or even $40 and that's per a piece and I got two and I picked the $40 pieces. Over all I spent $150 because I also got the sterile spray. Other than the pricing (which is understandable) super love this place. Read Less

I recommend not coming here for a tattoo. I called ahead and asked if I could make an appointment or if i could come in as a walk in. I came in and wanted a tattoo from a certain artist, this was also the same artist that I to talked over the phone. He immediately tried to pass me to another artist that was quite the expert in American Traditional. That was not the type of tattoo i wanted. Brent Baker (piercer) is the best piercer I have ever had, hand down!! I have been coming to him from years and my experience is never short of AWESOME! He is so clean and professional and clearly knows what he is talking about. He always lets me know that I am in control whenever we are doing a piercing procedure and really makes me feel relaxed and comfortable. He's even fixed some bad piercings I've had in the past and always uses high quality jewelry. Honestly my worst tattoo experience. First of all- an 80 dollar minimum is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. I paid 80 dollars for a tattoo of a tiny constellation on my chest. It was literally three thin lines and a few asterisks. The tattoo was drown sloppily and done sloppily. The line work is NOT STRAIGHT at ALL and it almost looks as if there are extra lines as if it was drawn on with a pen and smudged. Horrible. I'm planning on going to a different shop to get it fixed or covered up, hopefully.Seriously. Do not waste your money here. Read Less

TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! The Rising Phoenix Tattoo shop is a completely hostile and unprofessional environment.I walked in on a Friday evening and there were 4 workers sitting on their chairs watching the Office on Netflix. There were no customers, and I was a potential for both tattoos and piercings (sounds like money to me). I was there with my mother and we asked the piercing specialist some questions about the front triple helix. He was repeatedly rude and blunt with his responses, as if I was intruding on his personal time. My questions were not out of the ordinary. I asked about price and procedure. His attitude discouraged me from getting the piercing, so I proceeded to ask about getting a small tattoo for me and my mother. He informed me, rudely and abruptly, that he can't answer any of my questions and I have to ask one of the other workers sitting there. I then asked which one and he said, "There's two of them, you can pick". It is bad practice to undermine your customers.  I understand his restriction with answering questions outside of his field, but a good salesman would have introduced me to an artist or called one of them over. Furthermore, he could have been nice about it. The three men that were sitting there, doing nothing, should have taken the initiative at a potential client and answered my question as well. However, they all remained silent and I walked out with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. The service was terrible and I would not trust any of them in there with a piercing or tattoo. Read Less

My disclaimer is that I don't have any tattoos or piercings myself. That said, I accompanied my husband to Rising Phoenix last weekend in order to support his next tattoo, an original drawing that he sketched and wanted carved out on his forearm. My takeaway is that when you get a tattoo, you want 1. A clean place, 2. For your artist to know what the heck they're doing and 3. Attitude. Not the kind of attitude that makes me want to punch you, but enough to know that I know you're an artist and you're taking the permanent-ness of the situation seriously.Rising Phoenix meets all three of the above in spades. The place smelled sterile and the spray bottles were constantly in use. I appreciated that both of the tattoo artists spent time consulting with each other and my husband before agreeing on the final draft. And I like that while there was attitude it was never with the customer. I give props to Chris for the super straight lines on my man's arm which I know is hard to do.I was also amused by the soda machine. We put in a buck for a can and.... nothing. We told Chris about it and all he said was "Give it a minute. It'll come out." Five minutes later, it randomly spit out my diet coke. Brilliant! I give them 0 stars. I got a tattoo from Dave here and he did a terrible job. The whole time he tattooed me he criticized my other tattoo saying he could have done a better job and told me it didn't look good at all. He made me extremely uncomfortable. My tattoo didn't even turn out good I was extremely dissatisfied. For such a simple design I thought he could've done a great job especially after all his criticisms about my other tattoo. I don't know if it's cheap ink or what but it faded within the first year and it's extremely raised. I had it looked at by another tattoo artist somewhere else and he said he went too deep into my skin with the needle which is why it's raised. I had a friend go there as well and her tattoo turned out the same, it was raised and she had to get it touched up within the first year because it was so faded. One thing I noticed is everyone was smiling and laughing and that really made me feel at ease! I was scared but everyone assured me it would be over before I knew it. And it was! The moron I talked to was obviously not an artist and wanted me to find something similiar on the internet for him to trace. Are you kidding me? You're supposed to be an artist, anyone can trace. Then he explained to me about 5 reasons not to get the tattoo. Nice job buddy. So I took my design to Jade Dragon. Nicest guys ever! Willing to help with anything and walked out the same day with my new tat and I love it! I even talked to the guys at Jade Dragon about Rising Phoenix and they said they had been hearing terrible things about that place and that a lot of the actual artists were leaving. rising phoenix is is definately the place in illinois to get a tat. they have a huge selection on hand, and if you have the patience to look through them all, there is bound to be something for everybody. i saw every age and every type come in, and i was only there a few hours. or if you have something in mind, they will happily do custom tattoos at no extra charge. dave drew my husband's and nothing was too complicated for him, and he was determined to get it exactly as my husband wanted it. he's an extremely talented artist, and i would recommend him to anyone, although i hear the rest of the artists on staff are just as awesome. if you have heard rumors about rudeness, they're not true. the owner can be a little surly at times, but was always helpful and polite. they are very in-demand and busy at times, so there are a few things you can do to avoid being on the recieving end of any frustrations. come prepared: if you have a custom tat in mind, drop it off before and be prepared to maybe have to come back later. the artists will give your drawing one hundred percent of their attention and give you exactly what you want, but that takes time. be patient and wait your turn. you may think they are ignoring you, but you'll be happy when their focus and single-mindedness is turned on you. they are extremely clean and the shop is very well-kept, and a couple of reapeat customers for peircing came in within the space of a couple hours, so i assume the piercing is excellent. the pricing is great- you can get twice the quality of jade dragon at almost half the price, even though they use only high-quality inks and equipment. so if you are looking for a great permanent piece of art, not butt-kissing and an alright tattoo, i wouldn't go anywhere else.
