I'm giving Jay's museum 5 stars! He has a wealth of tattoo history and memorabilia jam-packed into his studio. My friend and I found this little museum while looking for quirky places to visit in Coeur d'Alene.  Neither one of us has tattoos or knows much about tattoo history.  The content of the museum would earn only three stars, but the owner's knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm made this visit a four-star experience.  The museum consists of hundreds of artifacts--tattoo machines, ink, flash sheets, vintage photographs, etc. from the twentieth and twenty-first century of tattooing in the United States--displayed around the walls and ceiling of Jay Brown's tattoo shop.  If I were just walking around looking at these items myself, I really wouldn't know what I was looking at, but Jay was glad to show us around and explain everything to us--for a whole hour.  He has turned his profession and personal collection into this museum and his enthusiasm and experience were clearly on display.  I would have liked to see more information/artifacts about tattooing in cultures and history around the world--although I'm not sure where Brown would fit any more items in the current building--and I wish there had been prints of some of the cool vintage photographs for sale.  I definitely would have purchased a copy of the beautiful photograph of Artoria Gibbons, a tattooed lady from early in the twentieth century (she makes tattoos look classy).  Overall my friend and I enjoyed this visit, and if I lived in the area and wanted a tattoo, I would definitely consider having Jay Brown be the artist.
