All in all, I had a relatively unsatisfactory experience. I love my tattoo because of what it symbolizes for me, but the execution could have been better.I requested a consultation for a tattoo. I had my design/concept ready with a few images and a sketch I had done. While I did appreciate how clean the shop was and the art on display, I did not feel welcomed. Browsing the art books and portfolios in silence was awkward. I got booked with Tony, not too far out.The first thing I didn't appreciate was that the morning of my appointment I showed up and a different tattoo artist informed me that Tony had a late night and was simply too tired to come in and do my tattoo. So this other tattoo artist was going to do it in his place. In my opinion, people research their tattoo artist carefully and it was very unprofessional of Mind's Eye to not tell me about the switch until I had already driven out of my way and gotten there. If I hadn't been willing to agree to the switch, I would've wasted my time altogether. I agreed because it would have been difficult for me to find another time. The artist who did the tattoo was super nice, I can't fault him for the shop's mistake, he did the best he could with a bad situation, but I felt pretty embarrassed about how the shop/Tony handled it.As for the actual tattoo, while the artist was so nice and I really don't fault him personally, there were some issues. When I showed my idea, the artist did a sketch and showed it to me. I had a change I wanted, as I didn't feel it represented a trait I had discussed, at which point the artist derided what I was asking for as "oh, you mean tribal." In fact, what I was asking for was not tribal at all, but rather realism. Then, since it was my first tattoo and I had already disagreed with the first sketch, I didn't feel brave enough to ask the artist to adjust the placement after he had first put it down. It was slightly off center. I can only tell from certain angles, but to this day it still irritates me sometimes when I catch a glimpse of it looking a little "off".The other issue with the tattoo was that although I had said I wanted it in green, I saw the artist prepping various bottles, and just moments before the needle hit the skin I saw he was using RED, and had to point out that I had asked for green. I had specific reasons for the green. When the artist picked out the green they were going to use, I admit I felt like the bottle looked ancient and dried out. My tattoo is several years old now, but from the beginning the green has had a sort of splotchy appearance.Additionally, the artist had a hard time getting my skin to "take" I guess with the green, so he spent so much time in one spot that the skin got a little mangled. You can still see where he spent all that time. Finally, the very bottom of the tattoo had a gap from the beginning where the skin just didn't get inked.Someday I'll get a touch up, but not at Mind's Eye after my experience.I will say that the price was fair at the time.
