Hailing a history more than 60 years in the running, Sailor Jerry's original tattoo shop - Old Ironside Tattoo - is the oldest tattoo shop in Hawaii. It's unique location has been a host to some of the world's greatest artists, and has been called the tattoo home of sailors from around the globe. Recently restored to it's former glory by Chris Danley, it is currently open and running under the expertise of Harisumi and accepting walk-ins Monday thru Saturday. Come in today, from Noon until 8 PM, and view the wonderful decades-old flash. Get some ink, trade some stories, and learn a bit of Tattoo history. Let our work speak for itself.

Was hoping to get some flash as a walk-in during a visit to the island. As a tattoo collector, I was hoping to learn a bit about the history of the shop, Sailor Jerry, chinatown, etc. Unfortunately the two guys at the shop weren't very interested in chatting and were a little rude.I get it, people probably ask about Sailor Jerry all the time and the topic is tired. Although the shop wasn't busy, the guys may have been busy preparing for appointments but a dismissive and rude attitude sucks. Its a bummer for those that are interested in the legacy and history. The shop lost a client and my money due to crummy attitudes. I'll recommend elsewhere in the future.

IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING A TATTOO HERE... DON'T!!! My wife made appointments weeks in advance with Megan. Megan was great to deal with and helpful. We received a call 3 days ahead of the tattoo appointment and had the unfortunate opportunity to talk with Mark stating that the appointment was double booked and that he wasn't going to be able to do the tattoo at the reserved time. My wife then asked about other artists availability and that's when Mark decided to be rude and disrespectful while my wife was explaining that we would like to get one instead of three tattoo's so that he could look at appointments available for that time slot, he interrupted and proceeded to increase his disrespectful tone. If I could give zero stars I would, like the history of the place, hate the way it's history is forgotten today.

Terrible terrible terrible terrible. Service was trash. Artist took a WALK IN client before he started working with me, and I had put down a $100 deposit to lock down a 6pm appointment time. I finally sat down to be tattooed after 8pm (more than two hours after my appointment time). I got 9 words tattooed across the top of my back and dude had the audacity to charge me 250 dollars for a 20 minute tattoo he did over two hours late! Sailor Jerry's legacy is being destroyed by the artists in this shotty, mismanaged, run down shack. I won't be back and I don't encourage anyone else to work with them.

The place is Tiiiiiny with a tricky split door, but once you get in the amount of flash art is overwhelming. We went for the history and to buy a T-shirt the first time. (We also went to Norman Collins grave at the puchbowl for a grave stone rubbing). Our second visit we made appointments for two historically popular Sailor Jerry flash pieces. The apprentice Meagan was so friendly and helpful. We needed to leave $100 deposits for each of the appointments. Our artist were Harry and Sue! Big Mahalo to both! Our tattoos are beautiful and we love them. I'd especially like to talk about Sue....her attitude and personality shined bright. She was helpful, considerate and personable. She really got a feel for the reason I chose the flash I did...she made small adjustments to personalize the piece for me! The only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because we didnt feel that kind of Ohana love from Harry. The other piece was on the foot and we felt maybe a little overpriced....but overall! Loved the experience and really love the work we got!

I was referred here by a tattoo artist from home, and was extremely happy with the work. The artists are very skilled, I walked in with an idea in my head he drew it up and started tattooing. My entire chest with color took about 10 hrs total and came out amazing. There was no wasting time. Everyone working in the shop really seamed to take a lot of pride in where they work, and were all very knowledgeable about the history of old Ironside. I will definately be getting more work done here.

One of the best experiences I've had getting tattooed. Everyone was super nice and made me feel welcome. My tattoo artist Nicky was extremely nice and gave me an amazing piece of sailor jerry flash that I'm absolutely in love with. A must stop for anyone coming to the island.

The place is Tiiiiiny with a tricky split door, but once you get in the amount of flash art is overwhelming. We went for the history and to buy a T-shirt the first time. (We also went to Norman Collins grave at the puchbowl for a grave stone rubbing). Our second visit we made appointments for two historically popular Sailor Jerry flash pieces. The apprentice Meagan was so friendly and helpful. We needed to leave $100 deposits for each of the appointments. Our artist were Harry and Sue! Big Mahalo to both! Our tattoos are beautiful and we love them. I'd especially like to talk about Sue....her attitude and personality shined bright. She was helpful, considerate and personable. She really got a feel for the reason I chose the flash I did...she made small adjustments to personalize the piece for me! The only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because we didnt feel that kind of Ohana love from Harry. The other piece was on the foot and we felt maybe a little overpriced....but overall! Loved the experience and really love the work we got!

I absolutely loved my tattoo Sue did for me. Its best tattoo I have. It was flowers on my right arm. It was prefect way to finish up our hoilday in hawaii. Hope to see you all again.

Not only do they display original Sailor Jerry flash but there is a display featuring ancient Polynesian tattoo tools!During WWII the sailors came to this neighborhood to get "Stewed, Screwed and Tattooed". I was referred here by a tattoo artist from home, and was extremely happy with the work. The artists are very skilled, I walked in with an idea in my head he drew it up and started tattooing. My entire chest with color took about 10 hrs total and came out amazing. There was no wasting time. Everyone working in the shop really seamed to take a lot of pride in where they work, and were all very knowledgeable about the history of old Ironside. I will definately be getting more work done here.

I came in as a walk-in and had no real expectations. What I got was excellent, friendly service and a great price to boot! The artist (Justin, I think) was by far the most meticulous tattoo artist I've ever had. I couldn't be happier with the work and I will definitely go back!
