I had my very first tattoo done here almost a month ago; I was nervous as hell, made my aunt come with me. David was my artist and he did an amazing job, from digital to print to skin... and despite me being jittery he was very patient and cracked jokes to keep me calm. Thomas is a great tattoo artist, have used Aaron before too but I think he isn't there anymore. Only reason for 4 stars was there was a kid in there crying the whole time, sign says 18 and over, don't let the kids stay. Just had my first visit and I'm happy to say I'll be back again asap!! After I very bad experience with a tattoo artist in August, I have been hesitant to get anymore ink for a very long time. I was very anxious that because of the poor quality I have received I'm the past and insanely nervous about finally getting something else. California Tattoo is probably one of the friendliest shops I've been to in a very long time. They were so sweet and helpful and, best of all, talented. Once upon a time, this was the shop to get amazing work done. I have heard they've become overrated and judging by the customer service, I just might have to agree. I called a few days before arriving and was informed that they do not take appointments on Saturdays, only to arrive and find out that when it comes Saturday appointments, "It just depends...." I'm not sure what that means considering that when running a business, a policy is a policy. Upon entering the shop, my friend and I were not greeted or even acknowledged. When she finally went over to the counter, the gentleman was somewhat friendly, but not super interested in serving us. We were the only customers in the lobby and saw two customers leave, but were at no point informed of when an artist would be able to see us. An artist went outside, took a smoke break, came back inside, and we got no timeline of when we'd be in a chair or have a design printed. After waiting over an hour, we left and went to another shop. I'm not happy with my tattoo at all. Other than it being pretty quick and painless, the more I look at it, the more I don't like my tattoo. It's so uneven and not symmetrical. I heard good things about this place from my friends but I would not recommend getting your tattoo from here. The customer service sucked as well. Read Less

I got three of my four tattoos at California tattoo.  The facility is clean and is what you would want to see when you are getting a tattoo.  All of the equipment is opened fresh in front of you and they use an auto clave for sterilization, which was very important for me to be able to see when I made the decision on where to get a tattoo.  The artists who work there are very willing to work with you to create the idea you have in your head.  They are very professional and charge a reasonable rate for their work compared to some places I have seen and been to.  Keep in mind, you get what you pay for.  I am very pleased with the three pieces I got there.  I would definitely return even though I live on the other side of the state now. They are very thorough and make sure that they are doing good work.  They explain the healing process very well and send you home with ointment to begin with and a card explaining the next steps for healing.  I believe that this is one of the best tattoo shops in Savannah and would recommend to anyone looking for good work! I do not like this place.The shop is dirty, the guys are rude, and the prices are ridiculous.I was researching where to get my first tattoo and this was the first shop I checked out. I walked into the shop after a woman who had left her two kids in the car so she could finish getting her tattoo done (not making this up) and was "greeted" by a guy who was not friendly or helpful at all and had gauges in his ears that were clearly infected or just not healing correctly (VERY REASSURING!)I came in with a basic design of what I was originally considering (a bumblebee) and he couldn't answer a single question with a straight answer (e.g., "How much for this design and this size?" - "I would say between 70 and 100." That's kind of a big estimate range when I'm telling you exactly what I want, the size, and where.)He had a complete disinterested and elitist attitude - not exactly welcoming for someone whose getting their first tattoo.I also checked out Savannah Ink and Ghost Town and ultimately decided on Ghost Town with no regrets. Not to mention when I asked the same question about price to Savannah Ink and Ghost Town, both places gave me an estimate of about $70, no more then $80.Keep your shady, elitist shop California. I just had my second tattoo done by Ghost Town and will definitely be referring all my friends there and far, far away from you. Read Less

Over priced. Pretty cool staff. Got a piece done a few years ago that I had to cover. Looked awful. When I went back in to have a second artist fix the mess up they refused saying it had to be done within the first two weeks. Neat atmosphere. Just a couple of stuck up artists lacking talent. All in all one of the best tattoo places I've been so far. The main guy was a little rude at first and acted like he didnt want to help me. He finally nicened up a bit after a while though. However my friends artist was super nice and let me take pics of him and what he was doing. The other artists were great as well and do some awesome work. I got a tattoo here while visiting for the weekend. I've been to quite few tattoo shops and this is the most welcoming place ever. The guys are really cool and totally made me feel comfortable. Dave, the guy who did my tattoo was really helpful and I had a great time during my visit. I wish they were in L.A., I'd get all my work done with them. My friend went in looking for someone who can do some comic book logo for her. She came across Jason who was the man for the job because he's into comic books.
