I was a walk in to the shop. I had an idea of what I wanted but wasn't very clear on my idea. Lumberjack Tom listened to me and said he would be right back. Krystal Rogers was an absolute professional! I met with her a few months ago to describe my vision for a Tattoo and she knocked it out of the park - above and beyond anything I could have imagined. She greeted me with a very organized, sanitized work station, and just continued to impress me. Called about getting jewelry changed on a piercing. Tom rudely asked what I wanted because they don't do everything. I told him a tragus (part of your ear) piercing. He said we won't do that we don't have the jewelry for it. I have my own brand new jewelry but I couldn't get that out before I was hung up on. I liked their work I've seen as far as tattoos and had been considering coming to get ink but not after today. Geez. Read Less

I visited the shop to ask questions about my future tattoo. My Idea was blurry, and I couldn't imagine it being made into a tattoo. The owner, Mike, did what I thought was impossible! He took my ideas down and created a masterpiece with ease. Glad I stopped here to discuss my ideas. I paid a small portion as a deposit that will also go towards my tattoo when I go in. Love how that works - great business idea! So, I wasn't just paying for the drawing, but it will come out of my tattoo cost. My experiences have always been great here at Shaded Soul. I have a full arm sleeve and a half arm sleeve that connects to a chest piece all done by Mike. Having plenty of other tattoos done in the past by other shops, I have to admit that Shaded Soul continues to be my absolute best experience. They make you feel very welcome. They are also an extremely clean place, and that is a VERY IMPORTANT EXPECTATION for me. Tattoo seats and work stations are wiped down in your presence so you can watch them set up. The needle is shown to you so that you can actually see him tearing it out of packaging. The grips are also shown to you with the expiration date before removing the packaging from around them. If you understand tattoo safety then you understand how important that is...no secrets at Shaded Soul! On a more personal note while you are getting the tattoo, Mike is filled with humor and conversation. On the contrary, if you're one of the quiet types, he will ask you what music you enjoy and play it for you to keep you in a calm mood. Lastly, we all know tattoos can be painful; however, Mike really tries to use light pressure and swipe gently to ease the pain. That is important when the tattoo needle itself gets pretty painful at times. I plan on returning soon! Read Less

Found this shop on Yelp while visiting from out of town.  Two of my friends and I had tattoos done by Mike.  He was very knowledgeable and thorough, taking plenty of time to make sure we had the designs exactly as we wanted.  I would definitely go back if I find myself back in Decatur. Read Less

I stopped in to see about getting a tattoo and from the second I mentioned what I wanted the "artist" (as I'm not sure if it was Tom or Mike as he never even introduced himself, but he did have long blond hair and a beard) started knocking my idea, actually using terms like "dumb it down" and "10lbs of sh*t in a 5 lb bag.  I told him another idea I had and said if there was anything you think you could add to it to make it a bit feminine I was interested in what he could do...he said "he doesn't like to pick things for other people". Now I was under the impression that he was a tattoo ARTIST! As such he should be able to come up with something.  I got the impression that he wasn't interested as what I wanted wasn't all that big and he wasn't going to make a lot on it. I wouldn't recommend this place if it was the only place in Atlanta to go. Read Less

Wow! This shop rocks! Jay does amazing job. I heard from a friend about him and his work looks awesome.  He travels between Decatur and Tampa, Florida. He is worth the wait. Iv been to shaded soul a couple of times for new ink or taking my friends there for ink, it's a great shop in a cool location! It is very clean and all of the artists are very nice and professional. The artist I go to is jay wykoff. Really cool guy and an amazing artist and tattooist. Just bounce some of your ideas off of him and he will make them come to life on your skin! Read Less
