This review is very unique. Sure, it's in relation to getting a tattoo which is a very permanent decision. But after being alive for four decades, this is the recounting of me getting my first tattoo. About a year ago I had made the decision of what the tattoo should be, but I had to decide where. I know a number of people who go to different places for their artwork, but I wanted to start here. I know the owner (and now my tattoo artist) Robert through his wife. But let me be clear, I do not play favorites when it comes to friends and business. And with this being a decision that will literally be with me the rest of my life, I did my research first. Robert has plenty of his work on their website and his Facebook page. And it is all impressive. So I knew I needed to swing by and make that appointment (which also requires a $60 deposit). I am thankful for the deposit because that helped me from backing out [listen, I do not like needles]. I brought the picture of a ship wheel exactly how I wanted it, then asked if he could put two notches on it to create the King Spoke. He had it covered. He handed me a card with instructions of what to after I get the tattoo and also his personal business card in case I had any further questions (which I did). Again, I was nervous about the experience. Not because of Robert and especially not because of the shop itself. It is located on Broad Street (500 block) so getting there was easy. But when you walk inside, it's like the ultimate chill spot. The dark wood on the floors, the leather furniture, the rustic bar, the pool table, and the retro frig (stocked full of beer, water and soda) all make you want to just come to hang out. Even the restroom (with the penny-covered floor and vintage ad covered walls) makes this place more welcoming than your good friend's man cave. When I came the day of, I brought a friend to keep me distracted (and laugh at my facial expressions). There is a seat and stool in the room so you don't have to get inked alone. And let me make this clear, Robert not only talented but he is by the book. Sterile equipment, prepping the arm, latex gloves, keeping it clean, and requiring a photo ID to have on file. He does it right and I appreciate that very much. I could not have asked for a better experience. Like me, you will leave with a packet of ointment for your new tat and a smile on your face because you will be completely satisfied. When the urge for fresh ink hits me (and it will be a lot sooner than four decades), this is where I will come. You should too.*Insider's Tip-There are two artists in the shop so if your friend/family member wants a tattoo as well be sure to book together.-They do a number of piercings (not just the traditional ear) so stop for that as well.-If you get a chance, ask them about the back of the building. It was a old house (as in 1700's old) and still massively thick walls and humongous fireplace. It is an interesting site. Read Less
