Over about the past 6-7 years this shop has been my go-to. Myself and many of my friends have received tattoos and piercings here. It has always been a laid back but professional experience and every member of the staff I have encountered up until yesterday (details to follow) have always been very friendly, patient and accommodating. Will has been my artist for most of my work and Ron with piercings and it was always a wonderful experience.
That being said, yesterday a friend and I had an experience that really rubbed us the wrong way and as a result I may not return to the shop again unless I know this individual is not there at the time. I do not know this artist's name, but I spoke with him on the phone 10 minutes prior asking if they had time for a walk in. He said yes so we arrived shortly after. Almost immediately upon arriving and explaining what we wanted (simple matching coordinates, i.e. a short sequence of numbers and letters with my friend having one extra line of coordinates) he explained that they had to be a certain font size or they would fade over time. We understood and agreed to whatever necessary size was recommended. But then he pointed to my arm which has text work done by Will himself, which I am very fond and proud of, and criticized the size of the letters and used that as an example of how it could go wrong. I was already offended at this point, and then when I asked if I could add a small little flower or something along those lines right next to it, he was very resistant. Saying "oh, now you want to add this, add that, etc" and immediately wanted specifics. I asked if I could just pick a small symbol from some of the sample images inside or books that I have myself seen displayed many times in the shop. He looked at me like I had three heads and said they didn't have such "books" but there was a small stack of pages in the corner. I was very uncomfortable as was my friend, and we ended up just leaving.
This experience upset me greatly because we were treated rudeness, impatience, and frankly, some level of judgement. Our ideas were not complicated or extravagant by any means but anything we wanted was automatically an inconvenience. Not to mention my work that was previously done at THIS shop, by an artist I respect and have had good experiences with, was criticized. I have never encountered this before, in any shop- certainly not one I have always loved. I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but if you go to Midnight Iguana, just ask for Ron or Will.Read Less
