I gave this review three stars because I really do like the shop. I have gotten a tattoo there (I really love my work) and just recently received dermal piercings. The only reason that I am not giving five stars is because I didn't have a problem until I had a problem, so to speak. This review is honestly due to the piercist and me not seeing eye to eye. I hesitate to even say the name of the piercist (I suppose I won't), because he has gotten favorable reviews on yelp that I have read and I am not here to call him out, necessarily. I just hope that perhaps, somebody (maybe even the guy I am talking about) from the shop will read this and realize that you should always do what is best for the client. It honestly makes me sad because I don't want to feel like I can't go back to the shop since, like I said, I do like the shop. Here was my experience. I went in on a Saturday to get dermal piercings near my collarbones. The piercist was very nice and professional while having it done. He explained how to care for the piercings and gave us a card and his number in case we were having issues. I was very satisfied...at first. After a few days, my right piercing was looking amazing. No redness, not too tender, even and centered, and just a slight bit of bruising. The left one, however, was looking inflamed, was very tender, crooked, and the top was burrowing into my skin on one side. I had done a lot of research on dermals before getting one, and all the research that I had pointed to a bad outcome if I left it the way it was. I returned to the shop for a follow up and the piercist who did my dermals was not there that day. His colleague, however, looked at it, agreed that it needed to be moved and was out of place, and attempted to correct it by turning the anchor a bit. He did not want to completely remove it and put it back since he did not do the initial piercing, but he tried to help and told me to come back when my piercist was there. Unfortunately, by the time I got home, it had already moved back to its previous location.I returned again to the shop on the day when he told me my piercist was there and I was able to speak to him. I told him my concerns and showed him the piercing, however, his response was totally different. He seemed to think there was nothing wrong with it, told me it would even itself out and that it was better to go in than out at this stage of healing. He said that if skin started to grow over the top of the dermal that was when we should worry (it was already looking like it was headed that way) and he had never seen one with that size anchor swallow the top. He said the swelling just needed to come down. I mentioned that I had seen his colleague briefly and he had tried to correct it and he seemed to scoff at the fact that the other guy had "pulled on it." He said to give it two-three more weeks of healing and come back if I was still having a problem. I kept thinking that, already, one of my piercings would be behind in healing if they fixed it right then, and if it needed to be fixed, I definitely didn't want to wait almost a whole month into healing only to get it taken out and put back! I left the shop dissatisfied and disagreeing with his assessment, however, I felt like I was in no position to tell him I thought he misjudged it or ask him to remove it and put it back. That is kind of like you (a nonprofessional) telling your doctor (a professional) that they are a quack after they diagnose you lol. I didn't want to seem disrespectful. That weekend (now a week into healing), I went to another shop that I have visited in the past and had work done at (Blue Devil) and asked if their piercist could look at it. Joel at that shop was very nice and he agreed that it was out of place and needed to be removed and re-positioned. In his opinion, it would not "right itself" and would just continue to get worse and cause me problems. I told him what had happened at Fat Ink and asked how I would broach the topic of having it fixed. He and the girl at the counter both understood the awkwardness of the situation, and I finally just asked if he could fix it. He agreed to fix it and charged me a reasonable amount to do so. Since he removed it and put it back, the redness has decreased so significantly that it is almost not there anymore, it is now even, no longer tender, and looking like it is going to heal up. I am upset that I had to pay another piercist at different shop to fix what mine should've fixed in the first place for free. I was not upset that the jewelry either was not placed right initially or had migrated (it's not uncommon with them); I was upset that nothing was done to fix it and I felt as though I was brushed off and put between a rock and a hard place. My piercist did not want to fix it and his colleague did not want to step on his toes and fix it either so I was left SOL and stuck with a piercing that was going south. Read Less
