I was a walk-in, just passing through, hoping to get lucky with some available time for a reasonably sized black and grey piece on my arm. Not only did they get me in the very next day (which I did not expect), Lauren Margo put together a design that matched the idea in my head almost exactly and did great work on it, too. I've been in the chair five times before and this is my favorite one. Chill atmosphere, good talented people, and a laid-back, friendly environment. I'd like to go back next time I'm in Tampa. My first time getting a tattoo here and I absolutely loved it! Joe Hawk is incredible made me feel extremely comfortable while I sat through my 5-hour thigh tattoo. Could not be happier about the art Jon Santos performed for my first tattoo. Was super friendly and really took the idea I wanted and made it come to life. Was told for so long just how painful it is but he did such a great job that it wasn't bad at all. I can't wait to go back in for more tattoos. Was walking through a convention area and decided to watch a booth where somebody was getting tatted, the artist amazed me with how easy he was doing the design free-hand. He looked up and said hello and unlike The other artist at the show, he actually sparked up conversation and was so cool to talk to that I ended up cancelling my original appointment for my Tat and going with Jon Santos. He was professional and super easy to talk to, quality work and exactly what I wanted on my shoulder. Easily the best tattoo shop I've been to. The atmosphere is incredible. They hang work they've both done so you can see their styles. It's always bright and so well lit. The artists are beyond talented. Joe has a style that is very unique that captivates you. He clearly knows how to treat his employees based on how happy everyone is. Jons art is ridiculously amazing. He can capture the emotion of an animal through the eyes. He also has incredible line work. He uses bright colors that pop and really help your tattoo stand out from the rest. Both Joe and Jon keep you talking while you're in the chair and include you in conversations. They go above and beyond to make sure you're comfortable. Although Hawks has a decent ambiance and I had a great experience getting my first two tattoos from Jon, one of the two artists who is a very polite and outgoing guy, the system at which the owners request appointments and respond to custom tattoos is unacceptable. I and 4 other previous customers strongly disagree with this. We think it is a very unnecessary trait and a waste of time to only be able to make an appointment by driving to Hawks and showing up. Making a phone a call and speaking to Joe or Jon as opposed to just walking in the door and physically speaking with Joe or Jon has absolutely no significant difference whatsoever. Hawks Tattoos needs to adapt the same system as a restaurant: taking reservations (appointments) over the phone. It saves the customer time and eliminates any hassle(s). To go hand and hand to this ridiculous complication, a friend of the family wanted to request a small wrist tattoo for a loved one, but one of the artists explains that a tattoo request cannot be made without making an appointment.... Why would someone need to make an appointment for something as simple as getting a sketch of a tattoo? There is a difference between wanting a sketch to get an idea of what the tattoo will look like BEFORE you get it and actually having the complete tattoo in mind that you want before getting it. An appointment is completely unnecessary for the former. Hawks Tattoo even states on their website: "We are more than comfortable designing a custom tattoo for you (which is our preference)". If they are more than comfortable and it is something they prefer, then there should be no exceptions to this. Not to mention nowhere in that sentence or on their website does it state that an appointment is required to be made prior to requesting a custom tattoo or something as simple as a sketch. Hawks Electric Tattoo's owners are fantastic artists and very indulgent people, but lack the generosity that is required or deserved to be a full 5-star establishment from my and other's experience. Jon Santos did an amazing job crafting words out of my deceased parents handwriting. Each letter was drawn with precision & attention to detail. His tattooing was smooth and the end result is impressively spot on to what I'd pictured in my mind. Jon- thank you again, you killed it in the best way.
