This is a really nice shop in the South Beach area. You most likely won't find any of the tv stars here from when the show was on, but you will find good artists, a clean shop, and a comfortable environment to get some work done. I was here to see a guest artist, so the setup was done outside of the shop. I came in at my appointment time, and he was getting ready for me. The shop staff was helpful and welcoming. I waited for a few minutes while he finished getting ready, and enjoyed the small lobby . area. The unique thing about this shop is that it is very famous for being on a tv show, so lots of tourists are coming in and out, taking pictures, etc. Also, people are flowing through continually to get small walk-in pieces. Everyone I met was nice to work with, and my actual tattoo experience was great. We sized it a few times until we got it perfectly placed. The work took a few hours, and the chair/room temp was comfortable. If you are in the area, and looking to get some work done, stop in and visit Love Hate. I received the worst service possible. From the moment I entered the store I had the feeling that I wasn't welcome. The tattoo itself needed a touch up, the quality was just simply bad. I went back after healed to get the touch up done and didn't get an appointment. In total I went there 3 times to get the touch up done and ended up going somewhere else to get it fully redone. The worst possible way to spend $600 plus credit card transaction fee which I believe is totally over top to ask for since they make so much money anyways. This tattoo parlor place has a lot of great peserence by do their job with customers; it shown great impression from this artist, Jose whom did fabulous job on one of my dear friends on her ankle with palm tree; it looked absolutely stunning! She was extremely happy and laughed over othvjosrs great humorous personality......  I definitely will come back use same artist for my first lower back in middle near my buttock ... ;)  Yes, I would highly recommend for anyone come use this store for any tattoo they will do whatever you want on your skin. :)= it's worth to come use these artiste has positive attitude and willing take their time for you! If I could give this place no stars I would. I went there 2 seperate occasions. 1st was just to check it out and see the place and staff and see if they could draw up something for me to commemorate my recent marriage, a honeymoon tat! It was getting late so we said we would come back the following day because we had an appointment in Key Largo cuz I was seriously on my honeymoon. We drive almost 2 hrs to come back on 1/16/18 and we shoot my ideas and some pics to the front desk guy and he said he'd get someone to draw some stuff up. I wanted vintage style key with a heart shaped diamond in the bow or end , wife's name on the shank, etc. There's more to it and the story but this would take way too long. He seemed very negative and kept saying stuff like you shouldn't put a name on, can't put that much detail...I had already asked him if he were an artist and he said no and he just barely worked there 6 months...I am not a professional but I have alot of work on my body already and friends that have shops and that are artists as well. I know a little bit about tattooing. So we're waiting and I walk back up to the counter and see this guy trying to draw up the outline. Anyway, he comes and puts the drawing down in front of me and if the artist who was supposed to do the tatt, Darren Brass drew this up then.... yeah.. I wish I had a picture that's how bad it was. The letters of my wife's name literally were all lower case plain Jane regular cursive. I ask him to give it back and change it up. He comes back few minutes later and he literally just put an extra line on each of the letters to try and fix it up. That's the point I about lost it. I ask him if the artist drew this up and let me speak to him and he said I usually go between and speak to him. I say, so this guy Darren is going to give me a tattoo and won't come and introduce himself or speak for themself? And I'm like why are you drawing up my tattoo pattern anyway? What's going on here? I tell him "you know we came from Dallas Texas here and literally drove almost 4 hours out of my way to come back this day on my honeymoon to do this. I'm like you guys are ruining a special moment of our lives dude?" This guy had no answers and said there is no one in charge there for me to speak to. I am still so upset that I tried to get some work done at a so called reputable shop and was treated like this. So disappointed. I ended up not getting the work done yet since I just got home and ended our honeymoon. It's just not the same ya know. This was supposed to be a special thing for me and my wife. I guess this shop doesn't care for it's customer's regardless of how much that work would have meant. I have friends here offering to do it but I'm kinda bummed out about it. Thanks guys. For my tattoo on the other hand the letter spacing is of and it is very noticeable... I did not see this but it was pointed out by more than a few of my friends... I always wanted to get a tattoo in this studio after seeing their amazing work on tv. I was so excited to go there as it's my first time in the US and I wanted to mark it with a tattoo I had been planning to get. It was a portrait of a a very special kitten who was so close to my heart who sadly passed a couple of years ago. I walked in and showed the picture to the the person behind the counter, I was given an odd look and was asked "Is that the exact picture you want?" Which I obviously said yes to. Then the person behind the counter proceeded to ask one of the artist "Would you do this in a portrait?" The artist turned around and blatantly said "No" and that was it. No reason why or anything just a straight out "No" I felt I was being judged which nobody should every feel from a tattoo artist. Maybe they don't like animal portraits? Which is fine but who are they to make anyone feel that small. All I could do was say thanks and leave. I was totally devastated and deflated as this meant so much to me. Went today and got a tattoo from Darren Brass, from the first step inside we felt very welcome, the staff was extremely helpful in advising on the design of the tattoo. I've been thinking about getting a tattoo to cover a scar for years. Then last year had breast cancer and got another scar. Then I filed for divorce and found myself in Miami with time to actually do it. I went into the shop just to find out how much it would be assuming it would be too much or the scar wasn't ready. James Hamilton met with me and was so calm and positive but it still scared me so I left. After walking around I decided while talking to a friend to pull up my big girl panties and go back in and schedule it for the next day.Jimmy came in that day for me and drew me an amazing jellyfish which was great since I had bad internet choices including one that was really a hot air balloon and another had some genitalia in it that Ami spotted.We spent 3 hours together chatting while he did an jellyfish with movement and color on my left breast. My scars are gone and now I actually can look at my chest again. The camaraderie in the work area was funny and loving. I was so comfortable I almost forgot how much it hurt. Considering the show and Ami changed my mind years ago that only sailors and bikers had tattoos it was only right that I went there. I had started asking around at home in NJ about artists and places but the stars aligned for me to be at the right place at the right time with the right artist to get the right tattoo for me. It wasn't cheap but you get what you pay for and it was totally worth it. And when I have to take my daughter back for college I might just get another on the scar on my ankle. Read Less

The guys at the studio are very cheerful and the work done outstanding. The downside is that the tattoos are way too expensive. If you don't care about having a tattoo made by someone that was on TV, then there are plenty of studios out there that will also be professional and create excellent artwork for more "regular" prices. Well first of all the tattoo looks great but the staff there is the absolute worst I've ever seen. The guy behind the counter shows the motivation of a rice sack and was not helpful at all. I am 53 years old and this was my first tattoo.  James did a wonderful job keeping me calm while doing a beautiful Pink Floyd tattoo on my arm.  I was so happy I went back 2 days later, asked him to add a little bit to it (for which he did not charge me - don't tell Ami), plus he gave me a discount on the second tattoo I decided to do.  My faithful dog of over 16 years died recently and he did a beautiful paw print with her name, and then suggested a halo which I thought was an amazing touch.  Then he showed interest in my dogs when I pulled out my phone and showed him pictures of them!!  My husband also got a tattoo.  James, or Jimmy as some refer to him, is an artist and a wonderful human being.  Thank you for changing my life!! To say that I never thought I would be in a tattoo shop would be an under statement. One of my friends wanted to gat a tattoo so he asked me to come along with him, however I did not know that the tattoo would have taken 4 hours to get done.It was surreal to be in the same tattoo shop that has been aired as a series on TLC. The shop is owned by Ami James and the shop is filled with tattoo artists ready to accommodate whether it be walk-ins and appointments.This place is located off 13th and Washington Avenue, as you could imagine parking would be a challenge, if you are lucky you could get street parking, but your best bet maybe to get a parking garage or parking lot, it tends to get fustrating looking for a park in South Beach.Because tattoos take a long time depending on what you need to get done you should have company with you in case of you need something to eat or drink, the good thing about this place is that there are food places and bars all around so you don't have to go very far.The place is very spacious and could have three to four artists working at one time, there is a comfortable setting area and for some reason what I remembered about this place is that they played some really good music.Of course depending on the size and detail of the tattoo you are getting the pricing tends to get high.They do have a huge selection to choose from in catalogues, however if you had something in mind, you could do a print and they would give you an estimate as to cost and time so you could be prepared.I personally did not get any tattoos but I saw the finish product from my friend and it looked amazing. My friend wanted a compass put in the inner part of his arm, what i could tell you is that the detail and shading from this particular artist was amazing.I did not see the finished product as it takes approximately two weeks for it to heal and for it to look how it is supposed to. I have no doubt that his tattoo would look great.I would definitely recommend using this place for your tattoos, I may get one eventually and would not have any qualms in getting it done at this place. Stopped in to get my daughter's name put on my inner bicep.  Nothing difficult or outlandish but still meaningful to me.  Staff was excellent candidate got me in within a couple hours which is great given the popularity of the establishment.  While waiting I overheard Ami James (owner) in a heated debate with someone over the phone which honestly impressed me cause you could see his passion and drive at work.  Frederico was my artist and even though I had a simple design he did an excellent job.  While there one of the employees nearly had  his corvette towed from the front which again was somewhat entertaining.  In the end I had a great experience and am very happy with the results. Everyone was so professional and courteous helping me through my first tattoo experience. James Hamilton was my artist. We traveled to Miami just for him to do this tattoo and he did not disappoint. He guarantees his tattoos for life so it's worth the initial expense. When making the initial appointment Danielle was prompt and courteous in her email responses. When the big day finally came, the shop assistant (very nice young man, sorry I forgot his name.) made sure we got the correct paperwork and introduced my friend and I to our artist. This guy never stopped moving. He was constantly cleaning, setting up artist stations for tattoos and answering phones. If and when you go, allow most of the day for this experience. It takes awhile to get going on the tattoo process but great tattoos are worth a little patience!!!!! So happy with this experience! I'm hooked. Will definitely be back for future work. Read Less

My whole trip to South Beach Miami was based around THIS visit to the shop. I didn't know what exactly I would be getting, but I knew I wanted these guys to do it. And they delivered! They made it easy to decide what I wanted and then drew it up quickly. And a few hours later, I was sporting my new ink. Thank You Darren Brass....Your one of the Coolest men I've ever had the measure of meeting...and one of the most talented artist. You rocked my new ink!!! If I could put a zero star, I would...Non professional at all!!! Big fan of the show.... I was very excited to go in and asked advices about my (4th) tattoo. The guy looked super drunk or high, even both, who knows.... I told him I had to take a shower because I just came back from the beach, and there was no way I would have a tattoo without showering before... He started to be mad and very rude. He was like "no let's do that now. I don't care if you took a shower or not". I already got 3 tattoos. And hygien is my priority. He asked me the money in cash, and told me there was an ATM right around the corner, but I would have to let my phone and my purse in the store because "he knew I wouldn't come back". Of course, I refused. He bang the table, threw is cigarette pack on it, and said something about the fact I didnt accept, to the other workers. "You should be honor to have a tattoo from a famous person" they said.... I just ran away.... There was absolutely no way that this guy (or whoever is working in this shop) would tattooed me! Went on a morning walk and was excited to find this shop so close to my hotel. I'm a huge fan of sweet phenomenal Kat Von D and the show Miami Ink.  This is owned by the cool talented artists Ami James & handsome Chris Nunez. I luv Darren and Yoji too.  Everyone in the shop were friendly and easy to talk with.  I was just excited as hell to know I was fortunate to be in South Beach amongst so much talent and in this shop.  When you walk in to the left is the Love Hate merchandize.  To the right is seating area with a heap of albums to look through.  Then just beyond the counter is the parlor where artist and client collide in a beautiful lifelong bonding of artwork. The actual tattooing area takes place. From the street there's a Love Hate chopper on display in the window.  I helped myself to a bunch of selfies and a business card. Woo! I cannot comment on the tattoo part of the shop since I only went into the little shop area of the business. I had to walk in just because we used to watch this place on the tv show Miami Ink on TLC ages ago. Tattoo culture fascinates me even though I don't actually have skin art of my own. The little store had a wide array of shirt designs to choose from but they were a bit pricey for a t-shirt. The business owner didn't even greet us when we came in the shop nor did he say anything when we left. It would have been nice to receive some sort of welcome. I walked in and was greeted by a pretty girl behind the desk and was passed to a guy to her side who took care of tattoo quoting. He was busy with some other girls so being the patient guy that I am, I didn't have a problem with it and waited. After setting up the tattoo table and some papers for the girls, he rummaged through some papers while I waited a few feet away waiting. Finally he looks up at me, I said hi, and told him what I wanted. I was looking for a touch-up on a tattoo on my shoulder which was done about 11 years ago to get the color redone and the lines remade. He told me that what's done is done and there wasn't much he could do help me, that I don't need any more work done. Funny, every other artist said they could help me out and even I could see that the color is starting to fade. Then, I ask if I could add some fire to my tattoo since it was a tribal phoenix design that I drew up. This douche-bag tells me that he doesn't feel that it would do much to help my tattoo. I consider tattoos to be symbolic and more important for the person wearing it more than the artist. Basically there was nothing he was willing to do for me. One of the most piss-poor customer service representatives I've seen from the West coast to the East coast, down to the Gulf. This definitely shows how a place can try to capitalize on the name  and reputation of their establishment while their service goes down the toilet. Read Less

Wanted a pic of my moms face with a fancy pancreatic cancer purple ribbon saying beloved mother. They cant do it.  They would require a professional photo of my mom and honestly, not many folks get professional photos done being that mobile photos are so common place now. Looks like I can't find a true artist to help.   I'm sad and disappointed, but I did go to other tattoos shops to inquire after this place.  Apparently they all say pretty much the same thing.  :(I wanted to cry!  It was the last tattoo I want on my body to memorialize my mom and who would I think would be better than the Miami Ink.  I guess this is the impossible quest. I forgot these guys were here until I saw it pop up on Foursquare. I had been wanting to get a tattoo while on vacation in Miami Beach but didn't make any solid plans. After walking around for a while I decided to do it. We walked it an I was able to get it done within the hour. I thought there would be a crazy line but it wasn't too bad. There were three guys getting finished up on their tatts and another guy ahead of me. So I told them I wanted a 4 letter word in script on the inside of my left wrist. No problem, so I waited while the artist drew the design and paid ahead of time. It cost a bit more than I've paid in Chicago but I didn't care. I was committed to doing it and because they have a reputation to maintain I knew it was worth the price. After going back and forth on the design a few times it was time to go to the chair. I really appreciated their advice and I took it. I originally wanted the word to be left to right when I look at my wrist but he said the industry standard is to have it "upside" down to the owner and left to right to others when I hold it out. I never thought about it this way and if I were to get a tattoo on my upper arm it would of course be upside down to me but normal to everyone else looking at it. And while they would have done it anyway I wanted it, I know I had it done the right way.It didn't take very long at all and hurt much less than the two tattoos I have on the back of my neck. I am disappointed I didn't get the artist's name (looking at other Yelp pictures I think it was Jose who did my wrist) or his card but he was laid back and awesome. They let my sister come sit on the couch near the chairs so we could all talk together. He also gave us some restaurant recommendations for Pubbelly and a Cuban Place on 16th. Overall it was a great experience and I'm glad I went here over any of the other shops on Washington. Read Less

I traveled here with a friend a few years ago specifically to be tattooed here.  This was when the TLC show was insanely popular, I really wanted an Ami tattoo.  So we booked our trip only to find out that you could only be tattooed by the people on the show if you applied to be on the show.  What a crock.  Any way, we still went, still got tattooed, and I am super glad.  This might be my favorite tattoo.We were greeted by the shop manager and he put our names on the waiting list.  My friend and I were lucky enough to get the last two appointments of the day.  My two and a half hour long tattoo and her nearly three hour tattoo were in painful places, but they did a great job of powering through and knowing when we needed a break.  Both our tattooers took our descriptions and brought them to another level of awesome, going way above and beyond our expectations.  We left the building after 12:30pm (and nearly $1,500 poorer, ouch, but worth it) and wandered back to our hotel (only 1.5 blocks away) to sleep the night away. They did such a wonderful job that I would go here again if I happened to be in South Beach at the time.  I wouldn't travel there specifically for that reason though, mostly because I found South Beach to be kinda icky, not a place I would intentionally go back to on my dime.Great staff, great memory, great tattoo...can't ask for much more. I decided to get some ink done here. Knowing I was going to Miami I picked out a design before my trip and was flexible with letting the artist do their thing as well. Now you need to go into this place with conviction and confidence. Not like some lame tourist looking through the books and drool over the fact that this place was featured on TV. I walked in with a friend who had just gotten her tattoo done at another place up the street. When you come here you do have to pay...they have a $200 minimum so you might as well make it worth their time and your $$. Most of the artists on the show take appointments now but for the most part they take walk-ins or you can walk in and request your artist and they will tell you how long you need to wait. I was pretty comfortable with going with the first available artist. After about a 40 min wait in the waiting area watching the dozens of people stream in and out taking pictures and watching some familiar faces from the TV show make their way thru the shop it was finally my turn. Morgwn Pennypacker was my artist, I gave him my design but let him know I was flexible and we worked it. I got the design (mirror image) on the tops of both feet. This guy was good and quick. To date this is the best healed tattoos I have had done, quality, clean location, workmanship and artistry. Sure you may pay a bit more but you get a quality experience. Read Less

Oh wow, I forgot about this place.Cramped, packed, overrated. After fighting with my best friend who came down from Canada over how stupid of a decision getting a tattoo actually was, she made her decision and guess where she chose to do it?We called ahead and listened to the instructions on the phone. We ended up going on a weekday.When we got there, we looked though a million books. She wanted a dragon fly, none of the books happened to have one. They told us to wait ONE HOUR while they "sketched something up."We went to a smoothie shop next door and sat there for a bit.  We came back and saw the sketch. It was two simple 1'' dragon flies. Okay, whatever, she was excited. We signed a zillion release forms and they let her see the blueprint after reducing the size. They put it on the back of her neck. "This will cost you $350" Our jaw dropped to the ground. (And this was back when $350 was not recession-based $350, because now $350 is like saying "give me $350, your arm, your leg, your mortgage payment, your car, that ring you're wearing, your dog, you're money for lunch..." Congratulations, you're getting bullied by a 45-year-old man.That's the other thing... where are all these people that come out in the show???!??! We had some kid, a man with a donkey on his neck, and some old guy. Woopdiedoo. If I wanted to get ripped of by an amateur tattoo artist, I could have gone to any of the other five million tattoo shops in SOBE.Allright, I lent her the money, because she only had $150 and paid with my credit card... OH, that probably hurt more than the tattoo itself. When It was over, I suppose they did an okay job... For two sticks and four oval "wings."Ugh. I felt so ripped off. I'm glad I finally got to rant about this.The only up-side to coming here is that they are more careful than most on the use of the equipment because a lawsuit for a transmitted disease can be HUGE.
