I got two simple line work tattoos from here about a month ago and while the one I have on my leg looks good, the one on my hip ended up blowing out. It’s not too big of a deal, though it’s definitely noticeable, and they were nice and patientwhen I came in asking what they could do with a touch up, but since it blew out on both sides of the heart outline I had, none of the options would’ve given me what I originally wanted/something I would be happy with. I was told that a combination of my tattoo being on my hip bone, thinner skin, and the artist pressing too hard/the machine being on too high is probably the reason it blew out, something that can be common with the small and simple line work design I wanted. What upsets me the most is that I wasn’t really warned of this happening (I’m fairly new to tattoos) when I went in as a walk in, and if this is common, I would’ve wanted to know about it beforehand, or at least have the artist mention something along those lines to me. It’s not something I want on my body anymore, and I’ll have to seriously consider a touch up. Read Less

Just got tattooed last night by Katie Ryan. It was my second tattoo, and I have to say that this is my favorite tattoo shop. From the moment my sister and I walked in, we were immediately greeted with a smile and a welcoming energy. Katie had drawn my tattoo out prior (emailing her helps, she gets busy bc she's way talented!) and it was exactly what I was imagining. I had no idea where I wanted it, if I wanted color or just line work, so she helped me figure those aspects out with no push for the more pricey option. She ended up spending about an hour and a half on my tattoo, but was more than accommodating with breaks as I needed them. She talked to us the whole time and was extremely patient with my sister- it's hard for her to sit still, and she had too for about 2 hours. I noticed how clean everyone was as well (always a plus). Honestly, don't think twice. Go to death or glory. They're more than accommodating, funny, open to challenges. I think they truly enjoy talking with their clients to get exactly what they are looking for. And I left with a free aftercare kit; some shea butter cream, sticker and instructions. Read Less

Went in for a 15+ year old cover up on a previous mess. Lee took the time to speak with me, make my appointment & drew something specific for me. Lee took his time during the session. I came to Death or Glory for my second tattoo and was a little nervous, as my first tattoo from another shop in town was less than satisfactory. But I was extremely impressed from my first impression of just walking in the shop and was convinced I would have a much better experience here. I had a consult with Jesus Lopez and gave him my ideas and budget and he took care of the rest. The atmosphere of the shop is perfect. It is extremely laid-back and comfortable, but professional as well. The artists get along well and joke and laugh with each other and the customers, all while staying on task. They're all super friendly and have a "let's get this done" attitude, a quality I found hard to find at other shops. It made the perfect environment to relax and joke around and get an awesome piece. Jesus was able to work with my budget and produce a tattoo that blew my expectations out of the water. He was super funny and very talkative and made sure I was comfortable and offered me plenty of breaks. He was talkative and funny but very focused, which was fantastic. I had a great experience at Death or Glory. My mom and I got tattoos yesterday and both turned out exactly what we wanted if not better. They were organized, professional, clean, and great at what they do which is exactly what you want at a tattoo shop. My mom got a palm tree silhouette tattoo, which Lee did a great job doing, taking the time to make it detailed and thoughtful even though it was smaller. I got a tropical design by "No fun Nik" and he took my pictures and ideas I brought and made it into exactly what I wanted. He did the whole thing in one sitting even though I was a walk-in and it was pretty detailed which I really appreciated. I've been actively going to Death or Glory for four+ years now. I have been tattooed by Rob for six individual pieces, two of which were 3+ sessions. I also have one piece by Mike, as well as one from Nik. I have always been completely satisfied with the impeccable work these artists do and the manner in which they do it. I travelled from Tallahassee just yesterday to get my tattoo with katie after she had a last-minute cancellation. Let me just say it was totally worth the 2.5 hour drive. My first tattoo was at BT in Gainesville, FL. I was less than happy with their customer service and the artist took a meal break in the middle of working. I vowed to find a quality place for my next tattoo so I asked around. I received a lot of recommendations but almost all agreed that Mike at Death or Glory was the man to do the large winged lion I wanted. I went in with multiple picture for my idea and he perfectly integrated all the concepts. I just got finished having him do my other shoulder with a dragon around the Celtic cross I already had. I had a tattoo once. It looked like a ten year old's hand-drawn science project, and was done by a couple in Detroit. The work was done in their home, because they were under house arrest. They charged me $200.For the same price, you can go to Death or Glory and get a professional, clean, painstakingly beautiful piece of art. Lee did an incredible job on the tattoo in question and is in all respects an artist. He has my complete confidence. Best damn tattoo parlour!There is so much to say so let me break it down:Atmosphere: Part of the experience of getting a tattoo is the atmosphere. Not only is this place extremely clean but it has the feel of a true vintage WW2 Era tattoo parlour.Other artists: Every artists in that building is a master of their craft. When they weren't tattooing they were drawing or doing something productive to perfect their craft....not moping around the building complaining about a piece they don't want to do.Mike Mehaffey as an artist: Aside from the fact that this was my first tattoo from Mike...I researched my artists (as most should do) to get a piece I have been wanting for years but couldn't find the right artist for. Mike corresponded back and forth with me over email and then made several revisions that I wanted showing me the same interest as he did when I first approached him. When sitting down to get the tattoo Mike did more prep work to his equipment than I have ever seen anyone do...and I'm pretty industry educated. If I'm going to carry something for life...and it's not an STD....jk.....Mike set the standard for whom I'm willing to work with....and in my case moving forward it will only be Mike because my tattoo is flawless!Mike as a business owner: Every shop that I have been to in Florida Tattoo, Retail, Restaurant.....whatever can take a lesson from this place. Every artist and person in this place has a goal of providing the best product with the best customer service based on a standard set by Mike. This place is ran like a true Business where the customer is first. I'm a business owner and I'm quite the jerk about what I expect.In Summary: Other than my first piece of art from Death or Glory I have never met Mike...I'm not his long lost cousin giving him a great review. As a lifetime resident of Gainesville, and having now been getting tattooed for over a decade, I can attest to the solid work these men AND lady put out! I have well over 30 hours of work done by the tattooers in this shop on myself, including by Kristyn, Lee, Mike and Rob, who did my first tattoo back in '04.This crew genuinely cares about their clients and the work they put out. With circulating guest artists there is always a chance to be tattooed by someone great in this community who you might not get a chance to! The shop is clean, the hand-painted signage on the windows is authentic, and the flash is classic. No TVs, no awful radio. Just good conversation and great books to leaf through.
