Was in Ft Myers with family and friends this last weekend and randomly stumbled upon this shop by looking others up online. Their rating on their Facebook page was excellent so we decided to come in to get tattoos! The place was super cool and I wish I could have experienced some of their live performance nights! Very clean and had a great atmosphere. We got Kris as our artist and the work turned out beautifully. The reason I'm giving three stars is because he definitely had his own agenda on the art going on YOUR body for the rest of you life. Each of us asked for certain things and were basically told no because he either didn't want to do it/put the effort in to give you exactly what you wanted/had his own picture in his head of what YOUR tattoo should look like. We were told the following at different times: 'the mountains you want look like hills'(him trying to get us to do what he wanted) 'This is the only font like the one you like'(not even sure what this was about seeing as there are a million fonts out there INCLUDING the one I wanted), 'I will not make the writing smaller(than literally 1 inch under a dainty tattoo on my arm when I have two others with writing half the size), 'this isn't a drive through where you can just switch up what you want'(now if this was said to me as sarcastically as it was said to my friend I would have left, but mine was already done), 'I'm doing this realistic' (about a tree the person wanted green and blue that he COMPLETELY ignored and did brown and yellow) and 'it's my name going on the tattoo' (basically so he can do whatever he wants. By the end of it I had wished we went somewhere else, though I did get almost exactly what I wanted after 10 minutes of debating with him and him trying to push what he wanted on me. My friend who is not as vocal- not so much. The individual pieces came out great and he does do great work, but I would have been extremely upset walking in wanting something and getting something else. I'm from Houston and worjing here in Ft. Myers. I just felt like getting tatted up. I read reviews and decided to seek out a tattoo place. I don't really know what lead me here first besides the reviews but I thought I'd start here. I walked in and it had a really laid back feel. Part art gallery, part tattoo and part Entertainment place. It was a Friday afternoon around 2pm. The young lady at the counter, Megan, I believe greeted and me and asked what I needed. I knew I wanted a "sweet Pea" tattoo but nothing Beyond that. She said she would got grab an available aritst and she brought me Jay. He is a cutie pie, listened to what I was looking for and sat down to draw. I hung out for an hour while he drew it up and got ready for me. Let me tell you,he really did exceed my vision. I have dark mocha skin and not sure how colors take on my skin. Oh, I also had a  as my first tat I wanted covered up! He drew up something more beautiful than I could of imagined on my own. I can't say enough about the amazing job Jay did! I love it. We didn't chit chat during the session. He was focused. He took one smoke break after about an hour. I kind of like that we skipped all the talking while he focused on the work! I absolutely love my new tat and I hope I stay in town long enough to get some more ink work from him. I was a walk in spur of the moment tattoo ( i was in Florida on vacation) and Kris (tirtel) was the artist that did my tattoo. He told me that he would get right to me after lunch and a cigarette which I completely understood as I didn't have an appointment scheduled. He drew up the tattoo and started within 45 minutes of me walking in. He is amazing! Gave me exactly what I was looking for. I got a sunflower on the back of my arm. I called in for a last minute septum piercing and the girl on the phone didn't take a name or offer me times she just told me to come in. So far so good. I arrive and the woman at the desk was very approachable and gave me the proper paper work to fill out. All well and good. The downward spiral came when I began to take a good look around... the aesthetic of this place was nothing short of disturbing. Satanic portraits, mounted animal heads, a bar area with a stage? I really didn't understand the lay out? I'd think you'd want to try to shoot for the whole "tattoo and piercing" gig not a cheap open night mic venue with cheep beer stored in a mini fridge... but I digress. I tried to take a look at their jewelry selection.... extremely underwhelming. A tiny case with maybe 20 items to look at. The piercer then came out, did not greet me, took the paper work and left to go "sterilize". She comes back, after I had already waited 20 minutes for her to prepare, with a cigarette in her hand asking if it was okay to smoke it before she pierced me? I can't make this up. Extremely unprofessional and embarrassing on the shops part. Would not come back here or recommend it to anyone. Read Less

Got my daith done here and it was done WRONG! After 3 days I had to take it out.  When I called to complain to the manager I was told that since I signed the paper work saying HOWL doesn't give refunds I was pretty much SOL. I agreed to no refund to a service that is don't correct not incorrect. I had a swollen ear and now a ring I can't wear, very disappointed in the service I was given and the treatment I received when I called. I hope no one ever comes here to get a daith done! Read Less

When my friend and I walked in we were welcomed with a not so warm hello. The girl at the counter looked at us like we were an inconvenience. My friend wanted her daith and I wanted my tragus, really not asking for a lot. The decor looks like something out of a satanic movie, although that was the best part of the visit. The girl who did ours really didn't seem to have a personality and struggled to pierce us. Fast forward to not even A WEEK LATER my friends piercing falls out. Got pierced Wednesday, fell out Sunday. They're closed Sunday so my friend decided To try pleasure of the flesh. Turns out many of howls pierced victims go there to have their piercings fixed! Today, my piercing falls out. A week later. I first found Howl when I was looking for interesting art galleries to see while visiting in-laws in the area. I found the place to be interesting with art on the walls, great selection of well-done merchandise, and has a very professional vibe. We  bought a piece of art that time from one of the people working there. Later my wife went back and got a tattoo which I admired from the first time I saw it. This last trip my wife had two pieces done by Mandaline, fixing up an older piece and some script both of which turned out beautifully. As I was turning 63 this year and never had a tattoo I decided to jump right in and get some original art on my forearm and worked with Colin on the piece. I could not be happier with the results, I asked Colin to put himself into the piece and he came up with a flourish that lifted my work from a design to an original piece that really popped.I chose to do this here at Howl due to the sense of order, the neatness of all the workstations, the professional way they handled all the paperwork and explanations. Go for the individual tattoo artists, but don't expect first-class customer service up front or professionalism. You walk into an "alternative" punk-rocky art gallery, with separate inking booths to the right. Interesting concept, but you feel like you're surrounded by pretentious, hipster fucks suffering from terminal ennui and rudeness. Perhaps ignoring customers and making them feel unwanted is the new millennial business model, but I call it shit service. The tattoo artist's brag books were ok, but I was looking for an artist to work with me on an original concept, and draw up a design together. But disappointingly this place seems to suffer from revolving-door, wham, bam, thank you, ma'am, color-by-numbers flash designs. They couldn't be bothered by a customer who wanted to talk for a few minutes. Nothing original here, move along. Read Less

I was very disappointed with Howl Tattoo. The receptionist lost my appointment and the deposit that I paid. The staff seemed very side tracked and unenthusiastic to be working. I had Mandalin as an tattoo artist. I had a rather large piece of artwork with multiple sittings. On one particular sitting Mandalin scheduled me, she spent most of it just setting up the table, started tattooing and then stated that her next appointment was coming in and that was all she could do today because she needed to wipe down and set up for them, it was a total of 30 minutes that she actually tattooed and she still charged me the full hour! At another sitting she messed up the tattoo and had me come back so she could correct her mistake, she did admit that she had screwed up and she didn't charge me that correction time. After seeing her multiple times and each time had some sort of issue, I decides not to go back to finish the piece. The sad thing is, I've heard many terrible stories since about this shop and there's nothing online warning people. I wish I would of known before I went there, that its a waste of time. Read Less

I go to Mandalin for tattooing and I refer her to people any chance I get. She is creative, meticulous and easy to talk to. HOWL is a beautiful tattoo shop and art gallery. It looks like an art gallery when you enter. Tattoo studio space is kind of hidden at the front. Great concept and very original. The tattoo artists and staf are very friendly and not your typical tattoo shop types. Everyone comes off as being knowledgeable and genuine. They are not tattoo shop creeps. I had an original design illustrated and I returned the following monday to have it tattooed. Great experience all around. nearly painless tattoo!
